First Watch - Pancakes chicken sausage eggs - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Durham, North Carolina

First time eating at a restaurant since COVID. Had noted some good, some bad reviews and decided to pop in and see for ourselves. Seated in a booth, plexiglass separating us from the people behind us. Service was super quick. My breakfast burrito pretty good with carnitas, eggs, avocado, potatoes and salsa verde. Can't say I could truly relax and enjoy my food, even though staff were adhering to safety guidelines. As a bonus, election results confirmed while we were finishing up and connected with a couple across the aisle. So memorable in many ways. Will return when COVID settles down a bit. read more

First watch is an outstanding breakfast/brunch place. They have lots of turkey products and chicken for people who do not eat pork (such as myself). This is the only place I have ever been to that has turkey sausage gravy as well. The scrambled and fried eggs are very delicious and the avocado toast, not to mention there delightful grits. The only thing is I just wish it stayed open longer!! Overall first watch is a great experience and a good spot for families and children too. read more

We sat outside as the weather was very nice. We placed our orders, and the food did not take long to arrive. Food was excellent! Burrito was tasty and very filling. Pancakes were delicious - light and fluffy. Oatmeal was good snd it was a large portion. Staff was wonderful! read more

Food was sub par. Didn't sit well. Service was very slow. Waited 10-15 minutes just to order something to drink. Afterwards waited several minutes for a refill on our drinks. As she was handing us the check we asked if we could get our refills and she got annoyed at us for asking. Finally, the prices were high for what we got. Seriously doubt we'll go back. BTW, this was a second chance we gave them after a fairly dismal original experience. read more

The coffee is good and the food is delish! First Watch is one of our favorite spots for breakfast.

Don't let the 3 star review fool you because I totally love First Watch BUT it obviously cannot compete in the realm of fancyass local restaurants with chefs and tasting menus and what-have-you. The NHC location is brand-new, beautifully designed, and well-staffed for Sunday morning rush. They're prepared for and accommodating of children, and the food comes out looking decently similar to website/press photos! Things that will please your tastebuds, if your tastebuds are reasonable: the Elevated egg sandwich, Million Dollar Bacon (but ask for it to be really crispy or else it's not as good), and the Bacado omelet. The waffles are better than the pancakes, which - by virtue of being multigrain - are chewy and dense. read more

They got my order wrong, but they went well and above to try to make everything right. They are always packed so you have to be patient. The food is always consistent and it's always good. Would always highly recommend almost all first watches, but this one for sure read more

We got here at 11:30. It's 1 and we are still waiting for our food. I know it's the Saturday morning rush but damn! The billboard on the 501/15 fooled us into believing this would be "the best breakfast", as allegedly voted by some unknown populous. I can attest that it was not. We were told it would be a 20-25 minute wait. At 40 min, I inquired as to our remaining wait time. Turns out they'd lost our spot on the list? Unclear how that works. Regardless, we were finally seated. After ordering, we faced a long wait for our food. It has finally arrived and frankly, it's sad. Lukewarm and tasteless omelette. They forgot the side of greens I ordered, and once I reminded them, they brought out the saddest, wilting pile of greens. And it cost $4!! Pic attached for context. Won't be returning. Should've gone to Waffle House. read more

I love this location! The guys who work here are seriously awesome. The food and service are always excellent. The atmosphere of this particular location is the best out of all of the ones around, it's spacious clean and pleasant. There's a few of the staff that have been here for quite a while, which you don't see much these days with chain restaurants. You can tell they care, that they like where they work and like each other, and it shows in the service and food! Karon is my fav, he always takes care of people! read more

Pros: very nice staff, great kids menu (complete with fresh squeezed orange juice!) Cons: cold food, incomplete orders, cold food (I think they pre make the food before they open and reheat it. The waitress confirmed this about the bacon but the potatoes were good but so cold). The staff was sweet and the kids menu absolutely rocked. Although they charged almost $2 to add cheese to my child's ONE scrambled egg. I got a Bacado omelet and the avocado was brown, the sour cream was VERY scant and it was cold. It came with about 10 cubed potatoes and the pico de gallo that it was supposed to come with, didn't come. I asked but it took 5 minutes to get it. My daughters food came with toast but she didn't get it until we asked. Did I mention that 25% of her food cost was the cheese for her ONE egg?! The food was good but cold which was not the fault of our waitress who was super nice and sweet to my kids. We go to the Wilmington location often and don't have these issues. read more

I've gone to First Watch in Florida with my girlfriend before, and we've enjoyed it, so we decided to give it a go in Durham. We loved everything about it! One of our favorite First Watch sides is the chicken sausage party, so we decided to get that on the side. I went with the pumpkin pancakes, and she went with the frittata. Both were extremely delicious, and we were stuffed! We also got an iced coffee, which was sweetened and flavored perfectly. The prices here are reasonable, the staff are friendly, and the food tastes great. What else do you need from a great brunch spot? read more

Victoria was very fun and energetic. The food was amazing and came out fast. The place was so nice an d decorative.

My wife and I went here for breakfast early this morning. It was pretty quiet when we got there, not a lot of people at being served. It was our first time at this location and we loved First Watch in Phoenix, AZ and had a very good experience in Columbus, OH not very long ago. Service was ok, we were seated right away and offered beverages. My wife had the pancakes with the lemon and strawberry. She loved them. I had coffeed and the Crab Omlet. That was also very good. The coffee was good, which is a requirement for me at a breakfast place. Other reviews made some comments about the friendliness of the staff. We thought the services was good, but I can understand where those reviewers are coming from. read more

First time I went I enjoyed the food and thought the service was just ok. I went back today and the food was just ok, but the service was abysmal. The waitress didn't acknowledge me or take my order for at least 10 minutes. She spoke less than 5 words to me. Someone else brought my food, and then she laid the check on my table and walked away. No they were not busy. I won't be giving it a third try. read more

Eggs Benedict BLT Eggs were basically boiled, and the hollandaise sauce had too much lemon to the point where all I tasted was lemon. The potatoes were basically white with no salt and not golden crispy. I was really disappointed as I expected more form the reviews. read more

Great food and server was wonderful! Always get the Million Dollar Bacon...it is amazing!

I have ate here twice and it is definitely the BOMB! Let's start off, I have been driving by these locations and ol' so curious. I decided to whip it in one late morning to try there breakfast. So glad I did.....parking is plenty, pick u a spot and walk on in. Once entering I was immediately greeted, seated promptly. Now to try menu, lots of options, lawd at the options!!!! I decided to try the French toast, bacon, eggs, cranberry memosa. Oh don't forget the fresh fruit on my French toast. My waiter was very attentive, super friendly, and when I asked questions he was familiar with the menu, answered promptly. Now to the good stuff. Ahhhhhhhh.....the food arrived. Lawd the two big slices of French toast looked so appealing, so delicious, fresh, hot. Even got warm maple syrup, lawd mercy! I was done....lol. The bacon portion was right, 5 pieces, cooked to perfection like I like my bacon. The two eggs were tasty, oh I did add shredded cheese, super yummy! The cranberry memosa was tasty too. The meal itself was kinda pricey for breakfast but it packed a big punch!!! Everything was super dooper yummy!!!! Would I come back here, oh yea!!!!!!!! The service was the bomb, the food was the bomb, and I had full belly rest of the day!!!! LOL. Highly recommend!!!!! Look forward to next time I am in the area, I am definitely whipping it in here!!!!!! read more

Yum! I love this place and have had great experiences with each dish that I've ordered. It's my go to spot on this side of town when Gugulhuf and Fosters are filled to the brim. Pro tip - get the bacon! read more

I did a pick up order for the trifecta and when I opened my egg box in the parking lot there was yoke when I ordered over hard eggs. I took it back inside and asked kindly if they wouldn't mind remaking it and one of the chefs came out and enthusiastically took care of it for me and gave me an extra piece of sausage since the previous sausage was ruined by egg yoke. Everyone is human and we all make mistakes and I leave 5 stars because of the commitment to their customers and making things right when something does go wrong! read more

I was craving a sweet brunch need and this began my search on yelp for a good new brunch spot. Found this on yelp, and I saw the lemon ricotta pancakes on the list and I knew I had to go try it out. The online waitlist though yelp definitely helped because we were seated in ~4 minutes after checking in! Which is great because it was a busy day with lots of folks waiting. Good : the sauces for the donut holes were wonderful. Warm berry jam, yes please! My lemon ricotta pancakes were big, filling and again wonderful tasting. The service was good and prompt. Busy space but not so crowded that you could hear everyone's conversations near you. The not so good : the only thing I didn't like was their coffee. It was just not my type of coffee so I'd skip that for hot chicolate or tea next time. Yep there will be a next! I'd want to try more of their brunch specials. read more

Do not count on getting your food on time when you do a pick-up service. Ordered at 1:15 and given 1:35 pickup time. Arrived at 1:25, waited. Walked over to Starbucks since it wasn't ready. 1:50pm, still not ready. Told that it would be an additional 5-10 mins. For avocado toast, pancakes, and an omelet.... did they just make the order when we complained ??? If your hungry - avoid making an order, you'll just end up hangry. Update: okay, so the food was pretty dang good so I added a star to the one I had posted originally. I would come back but will be sure to eat in-person or anticipate a long wait read more

I've always loved First Watch for its consistency of delicious food. However I think we were cut a little short in terms of proportions this time around. I ordered the Tri-fecta with 2 scrambled eggs, a Belgium waffle, and a pork sausage. But it seems they only had enough to give me one scrambled egg and a miniature sausage. If it wasn't for the stingy size and amount, I would've undoubtedly rated this higher. I doubt I'll be returning to this location. read more

I visited this restaurant the other day with my daughter and I must say this is the best service I have had in a long time. Karon was exceptional. He was on top of things even when i didn't ask. He paid attention, say a need and fulfilled. Wish there were more like him everywhere. read more

Been here twice. Was first introduced to First Watch in Nashville, TN. Never disappoints. This time, I had both a skillet hash and a pancake. However some parts of the pancake tasted like bacon- they probably used the same skillet to cook both some bacon and my pancakes without cleaning it in between. That's why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stara read more

First Watch always delivers with great food and friendly service! They typically have a wait-list, especially on the weekends, so be sure to call ahead and see what the current wait time is! They offer a variety of house made juices that you can spike with alcohol if you choose! And of course you can't leave without trying the million-dollar bacon. read more

I've had a good meal before at First Watch but had the Pesto Protein Quinoa Bowl this morning. The food was thinly spread across half the bowl. I couldn't believe how little there was, and for the price. I won't get it again, and will think of going elsewhere. A couple of thinly sliced chicken pieces were all that was included with mostly some quinoa, and a couple of pieces of kale. It looked nothing like pictures I have seen of the power bowl. read more

Placed my first and last online order, scrambled eggs and avocado toast. $15 and the toast was cold but the eggs weren't " SCRAMBLED " and they were FRiGID. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant but perhaps another FW location where people actually cared about giving you their best service by greeting you and making sure your food was cooked properly and not unacceptable. Not worth the money and a wasted lunch break. read more

We rarely go out for breakfast unless we are out of town, but wanted to give First Watch a try based in other reviews. Service was very good - very friendly all around. We tried the Hacienda hash which was really good, and the Ciabatta Benedict with greens (the greens were past their prime, but the server replace them quickly). One suggestion - the hash should come with some toast. Biggest complaint is the prices - $30 is kind of steep for breakfast and coffee for two. The Egg & I (now under common ownership with the First Watch chain) has a similar menu. read more

I unfortunately could only give this place 3 stars. The pancakes were good, proportioned to the price as well as my wife's order of the "tri-fecta". The service was okay and there wasn't anything about the restaurant that really wowed me. It seemed like a mom n' pop version of Cracker Barrel. I'll give place another shot sometime, just not anytime soon. read more

The eggs and sauces were all fresh, as were the breads, fruit, juices. And it was really great to have potato hash that was perfectly crispy and seasoned. The sausage in my hash skillet was great, the bacon was great. The greens were fresh. We got the Million Dollar bacon; at first I was a little put off by the $5 for 4 pieces price tag, but OMG was it worth it! The service was attentive without being suffocating. 4 meals, 4 drinks all for $60. Not bad. I really hope this place does well! read more

By far one of the best breakfast places to eat at when in the Durham area.... The food is always top notch, and the service is far above and beyond the standard... I especially enjoyed our waitress (RENEE). She was so friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to make sure our dining experience was as good as possible... DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! read more

This is my second time eating at First Watch. My first trip was in Raleigh a few years ago and I don't remember what I got. I remember pretty much every food I eat because I love food so much, so I couldn't figure out why I couldn't really remember my first experience here. After eating at the Durham location I know why I didn't remember: the food is so decidedly meh. We arrived at around noon on a Sunday which was our own poor planning. The after-church crowd was in full swing so we got an estimated wait of 30 minutes from the host. While we waited we noticed that the person assisting the host (an older man holding an ipad - maybe the owner or manager?) was calling out names to alert parties that their table was ready. I have no idea why he was doing this - they took our phone number when we got on the wait list. We even got the text that said we were on the wait list so clearly their system was working. Calling out names was very inefficient because the place was loud and crowded and people were waiting both inside and outside so I don't know how the people outside could hear it was their turn because the guy never stepped out there. Anyway this just really bugged me haha. The original host that placed us on the list did very helpfully let us know a few minutes into our wait that we could sit at the large high-top table in the dining room which was first-come-first-serve. We loved having this option available. Started off with coffee which is where the "meh" experience began. For a breakfast place I expect at least decent coffee and am pleasantly surprised if I get anything above that. This, unfortunately, was coffee-colored water. I also noticed that they don't list the coffee price on the menu which is pretty lame. I was dying for some french toast which is why we came here in the first place. I ordered it with the strawberries and lemon curd that comes on the lemon-ricotta pancakes. This seriously elevated the french toast which I found to be a bit lacking in flavor otherwise. There's a bit of cinnamon sugar on the outside and they normally come with some sort of berry jam on the side. But the berry jam is also meh - it just tastes highly processed and like straight sugar with no discernible fruit flavor. For nearly $10, two pieces of basically plain french toast feels like a rip off. My husband got the platter that comes with eggs, a blueberry pancake, and bacon. He really liked the scrambled eggs. But the bacon and pancake were pretty forgettable. He did give me a bite of the pancake which was bursting with fresh blueberries and I was like "Wow!", but he commented that I got the best bite of the pancake because the rest of it had maybe five blueberries in it. He also ordered an extra side of cheese grits - they were very watery and the cheese was only on top, not mixed in, which comes off very rushed. If you're in central NC you've got to do grits right. Overall, yeah, just meh. Our check came out to over $35 which was just too much to keep trying this place hoping it'll get better. The menu is bursting with cool dishes but we just haven't loved the results. read more
