First watch is an outstanding breakfast/brunch place. They have lots of turkey products and chicken for people who do not eat pork (such as myself). This is the only place I have ever been to that has turkey sausage gravy as well. The scrambled and fried eggs are very delicious and the avocado toast, not to mention there delightful grits. Bread is fresh and oaty, fruit compote and syrup are served warm and are flavorful. First time eating at a restaurant since COVID. Had noted some good, some bad reviews and decided to pop in and see for ourselves. Seated in a booth, plexiglass separating us from the people behind us. Service was super quick. My breakfast burrito pretty good with carnitas, eggs, avocado, potatoes and salsa verde. Can't say I could truly relax and enjoy my food, even though staff were adhering to safety guidelines. As a bonus, election results confirmed while we were finishing up and connected with a couple across the aisle. So memorable in many ways. Will return when COVID settles down a bit. read more

I couldn't believe how little there was, and for the price. I won't get it again, and will think of going elsewhere. The billboard on the 501/15 fooled us into believing this would be "the best breakfast", as allegedly voted by some unknown populous. I can attest that it was not. I love this location! The guys who work here are seriously awesome. The food and service are always excellent. The atmosphere of this particular location is the best out of all of the ones around, it's spacious clean and pleasant.There's a few of the staff that have been here for quite a while, which you don't see much these days with chain restaurants. I have ate here twice and it is definitely the BOMB! Let's start off, I have been driving by these locations and ol' so curious. I decided to whip it in one late morning to try there breakfast. So glad I did.....parking is plenty, pick u a spot and walk on in. Once entering I was immediately greeted, seated promptly. Now to try menu, lots of options, lawd at the options!!!! I decided to try the French toast, bacon, eggs, cranberry memosa. Oh don't forget the fresh fruit on my French toast. My waiter was very attentive, super friendly, and when I asked questions he was familiar with the menu, answered promptly. Now to the good stuff. Ahhhhhhhh.....the food arrived. Lawd the two big slices of French toast looked so appealing, so delicious, fresh, hot. Even got warm maple syrup, lawd mercy! I was done....lol. The bacon portion was right, 5 pieces, cooked to perfection like I like my bacon. The two eggs were tasty, oh I did add shredded cheese, super yummy! The cranberry memosa was tasty too. Don't let the 3 star review fool you because I totally love First Watch BUT it obviously cannot compete in the realm of fancyass local restaurants with chefs and tasting menus and what-have-you. The NHC location is brand-new, beautifully designed, and well-staffed for Sunday morning rush. They're prepared for and accommodating of children, and the food comes out looking decently similar to website/press photos! Things that will please your tastebuds, if your tastebuds are reasonable: the Elevated egg sandwich, Million Dollar Bacon (but ask for it to be really crispy or else it's not as good), and the Bacado omelet. The waffles are better than the pancakes, which - by virtue of being multigrain - are chewy and dense. read more

I did a pick up order for the trifecta and when I opened my egg box in the parking lot there was yoke when I ordered over hard eggs. I took it back inside and asked kindly if they wouldn't mind remaking it and one of the chefs came out and enthusiastically took care of it for me and gave me an extra piece of sausage since the previous sausage was ruined by egg yoke. Pros: very nice staff, great kids menu (complete with fresh squeezed orange juice!) Cons: cold food, incomplete orders, cold food (I think they pre make the food before they open and reheat it. The waitress confirmed this about the bacon but the potatoes were good but so cold). The staff was sweet and the kids menu absolutely rocked. Although they charged almost $2 to add cheese to my child's ONE scrambled egg. I got a Bacado omelet and the avocado was brown, the sour cream was VERY scant and it was cold. It came with about 10 cubed potatoes and the pico de gallo that it was supposed to come with, didn't come. I asked but it took 5 minutes to get it. My daughters food came with toast but she didn't get it until we asked. Did I mention that 25% of her food cost was the cheese for her ONE egg?! The food was good but cold which was not the fault of our waitress who was super nice and sweet to my kids. We go to the Wilmington location often and don't have these issues. read more

I ordered the Tri-fecta with 2 scrambled eggs, a Belgium waffle, and a pork sausage. But it seems they only had enough to give me one scrambled egg and a miniature sausage. I've gone to First Watch in Florida with my girlfriend before, and we've enjoyed it, so we decided to give it a go in Durham. We loved everything about it! One of our favorite First Watch sides is the chicken sausage party, so we decided to get that on the side. I went with the pumpkin pancakes, and she went with the frittata. Both were extremely delicious, and we were stuffed! We also got an iced coffee, which was sweetened and flavored perfectly. My wife and I went here for breakfast early this morning. It was pretty quiet when we got there, not a lot of people at being served. It was our first time at this location and we loved First Watch in Phoenix, AZ and had a very good experience in Columbus, OH not very long ago. Service was ok, we were seated right away and offered beverages. My wife had the pancakes with the lemon and strawberry. She loved them. I had coffeed and the Crab Omlet. That was also very good. The coffee was good, which is a requirement for me at a breakfast place. Other reviews made some comments about the friendliness of the staff. I was craving a sweet brunch need and this began my search on yelp for a good new brunch spot. Found this on yelp, and I saw the lemon ricotta pancakes on the list and I knew I had to go try it out. The online waitlist though yelp definitely helped because we were seated in ~4 minutes after checking in! Which is great because it was a busy day with lots of folks waiting. Good : the sauces for the donut holes were wonderful. Warm berry jam, yes please! My lemon ricotta pancakes were big, filling and again wonderful tasting. The service was good and prompt. Busy space but not so crowded that you could hear everyone's conversations near you. The not so good : the only thing I didn't like was their coffee. It was just not my type of coffee so I'd skip that for hot chicolate or tea next time. Yep there will be a next! I'd want to try more of their brunch specials. read more

We rarely go out for breakfast unless we are out of town, but wanted to give First Watch a try based in other reviews. Service was very good - very friendly all around. We tried the Hacienda hash which was really good, and the Ciabatta Benedict with greens (the greens were past their prime, but the server replace them quickly). One suggestion - the hash should come with some toast. Biggest complaint is the prices - $30 is kind of steep for breakfast and coffee for two. The Egg & I (now under common ownership with the First Watch chain) has a similar menu. read more

Stopped in for lunch. Couldn't resist ordering the donuts, and they were delicious! I had the Monterrey club sandwich and it was stacked high with meat and toppings. The sausage in my hash skillet was great, the bacon was great. The greens were fresh. We got the Million Dollar bacon; at first I was a little put off by the $5 for 4 pieces price tag, but OMG was it worth it! This is my second time eating at First Watch. My first trip was in Raleigh a few years ago and I don't remember what I got. I remember pretty much every food I eat because I love food so much, so I couldn't figure out why I couldn't really remember my first experience here. After eating at the Durham location I know why I didn't remember: the food is so decidedly meh. We arrived at around noon on a Sunday which was our own poor planning. The after-church crowd was in full swing so we got an estimated wait of 30 minutes from the host. While we waited we noticed that the person assisting the host (an older man holding an ipad - maybe the owner or manager?) was calling out names to alert parties that their table was ready. I have no idea why he was doing this - they took our phone number when we got on the wait list. We even got the text that said we were on the wait list so clearly their system was working. Calling out names was very inefficient because the place was loud and crowded and people were waiting both inside and outside so I don't know how the people outside could hear it was their turn because the guy never stepped out there. Anyway this just really bugged me haha. The original host that placed us on the list did very helpfully let us know a few minutes into our wait that we could sit at the large high-top table in the dining room which was first-come-first-serve. We loved having this option available. Started off with coffee which is where the "meh" experience began. For a breakfast place I expect at least decent coffee and am pleasantly surprised if I get anything above that. This, unfortunately, was coffee-colored water. I also noticed that they don't list the coffee price on the menu which is pretty lame. I was dying for some french toast which is why we came here in the first place. I ordered it with the strawberries and lemon curd that comes on the lemon-ricotta pancakes. This seriously elevated the french toast which I found to be a bit lacking in flavor otherwise. There's a bit of cinnamon sugar on the outside and they normally come with some sort of berry jam on the side. But the berry jam is also meh - it just tastes highly processed and like straight sugar with no discernible fruit flavor. For nearly $10, two pieces of basically plain french toast feels like a rip off. My husband got the platter that comes with eggs, a blueberry pancake, and bacon. He really liked the scrambled eggs. But the bacon and pancake were pretty forgettable. He did give me a bite of the pancake which was bursting with fresh blueberries and I was like "Wow!", but he commented that I got the best bite of the pancake because the rest of it had maybe five blueberries in it. He also ordered an extra side of cheese grits - they were very watery and the cheese was only on top, not mixed in, which comes off very rushed. If you're in central NC you've got to do grits right. Overall, yeah, just meh. Our check came out to over $35 which was just too much to keep trying this place hoping it'll get better. The menu is bursting with cool dishes but we just haven't loved the results. read more

Not one to write reviews but this was so bad I have been inspired to do so. First of all, I explained to the waitress that I have Celiac Disease. (absolutely cannot eat gluten). So, I ordered the veggie omelette with NO bread. My son's order came out first, with an eyelash on it. Then they brought my omelette with toast sitting right on top of it. I told them I could not eat it or I would have a reaction. They took both plates back to the kitchen. A minute later they came back with the plates. I asked, "Is this the same plate with the toast removed?" At least she was honest and said "yes". They took it back and said they would make a new plate, but did they? I have a terrible reaction to gluten and it takes me down for days. It's been three days later and I still have not recovered completely. (since the symptoms were 12 hours later) They brought out another order for my son and if you can believe it there was ANOTHER eyelash. I am not making this up. The manager was nice about it all and we did not pay for the food. I just want people with allergies to be VERY careful here. They don't take it serious. Also, the bathrooms were disgusting.
