Overall the service was decent but man did they make my traditional breakfast greasy as sin. My eggs and home fries had to be pat down and my toast wasn't really toasted it was more like bread. The seasonal donuts were good though and my partner enjoyed his croissant sandwich from the seasonal menu. Overall wasn't a super impressive visit. The set up reminds me of like a Chilis or Fridays sort of age but the booths are not as tall. The service was a little sluggish but acceptable. The corn bread was special and the dollop of butter much appreciated. It was nicely crisped and moist inside with he right amount of bite. My egg white omelette was good-- but c'mon-- not a lot of room for anyone to make it special. That said, there are some ways. For instance, if you just dump the veggies in the egg white mixture verses cooking them first so they are soft and (when appropriate) caramelized. They did the latter so big hat-tip the FW! I got the biscuits and gravy, I wish I took a picture. As I was eating I realized that my biscuits were overcooked and a little bit burnt. Our server also sucked. Instead of charging each of us 18% of half the bill, they charged us BOTH 18% of the full bill. A $24 tip became a $48 tip--FOR BREAKFAST. We didn't catch it until the next day. When I called to complain (after getting hung up on twice), the manager told me it was a 'glitch in the system' and he would call back and square it with me. Of course, I never heard back from him and I'm not willing to go through the hassle of trying to reach him again. Wow, why have I waited so long to visit here?! I stopped in at noon after a morning full of medical stuff, so I needed the comfort food. A BLT Benedict really hit the spot! Some type of sour-dough-ish bun with full slices of bacon, tomato, and salad greens anchored by possibly the best hollandaise I've had in years! It was just enough, and with a never-empty coffee cup was still below $20 before tip. Service was fast and efficient without hovering. There wasn't much of a crowd this Monday, but I imagine it could get crazy in more popular time slots. Jasmyn checked back with me and several other tables regularly, bussed plates, and generally kept me feeling welcomed and well fed! Highly recommended! Brunch at FirstWatch is always enjoyable! The restaurant feels nice and cozy... the perfect environment for a breakfast out. When we arrived, the place was slammed and we were told there would be a 20 minute wait for outdoor seating. We told them we were fine with indoor or outdoor, but many parties were seated outside before we were ultimately seated inside. The coffee was brought out quickly and was wonderful, but it took a while for our food to come out. Mine must have been prepared first because it was cold by the time it came out. My omelet was good, but I would recommend adding cheese (which I have done before) to cut some of the strong flavors from the chiles and onions. The bread is incredible and is perfect with preserves or for sopping up the middle of the omelet. You get lots of good for the price and can really enjoy time with friends here! read more

I was intrigued with the crab-avocado toast, but opted for the lemon ricotta pancakes, million dollar bacon and an egg instead. My husband is a bacon master and First Watch made me consider dumping him and marrying the cook. The million dollar bacon is NOT an exaggeration. It has the perfect flavor, texture, crispness, and succulence. On the other hand, I am the pancake master in our house. We love tender, rich, and fluffy pancakes. I expected the ricotta pancakes to be rich and moist, but surprisingly they were not. So, Iuckily I think my husband is going to keep me. I can not wait to try so many other things on their menu. I'm a Florida girl, so I am so excited a First Watch is here in Durham! The food is good, the service is great, and there is always plenty of coffee to be had. Perhaps my favorite thing about this location is the community table, which is basically the equivalent of a counter where you can sit as seats are available and meet some really cool people. I'm a sucker for breakfast/brunch foods, so I haven't tried the back side of the menu (lunch), but it always looks good coming out to other tables. My husband and I, recalling my lackluster kale salad and my sister's yummy-looking pancakes from my first visit, stuck to pancakes and "million dollar bacon." I chose two carrot cake pancakes and he chose blueberry. They were fine. Nothing extraordinary, but certainly a better option than any of the "healthier" fare. I'd hoped for something on my pancakes that indicated the "carrot cake" title- maybe a cream cheese frosting-type sauce on the side. Instead they were just ordinary pancakes with some vague pieces or grated carrot, a hint of nutmeg, and the occasional sad raisin. My husband did get a blueberry compote on the side of his pancakes. The bacon was nice- very peppery and sweet and salty and chopped with fresh chives. I would definitely recommend ordering that. In summary, First Watch is a fine place to go for brunch.
