Updating my original 1 star review to 4 stars. My original review came after a frustrating experience involving the engine recall on my 2023 Nissan Rogue, confusion surrounding the warranty coverage, and ongoing issues with my infotainment system and a dashboard rattle that had existed for years. To make matters worse, multiple Nissan dealerships in California, Oregon, and Virginia either couldn't fix the problems or simply dismissed them by saying, "they all do that." After my concerns were escalated, Jim Wise, Director of Fixed Operations at Southern Team Nissan, personally got involved. He took the time to review the situation, listened to my concerns, and worked to make things right. That level of involvement was appreciated, especially after spending years trying to get these issues addressed without success. Southern Team Nissan updated the software in my infotainment system and removed portions of the upper dashboard to diagnose and address the rattle. So far, the results have been positive. The backup camera and stereo are functioning properly, and the dashboard rattle that had been driving me crazy appears to be gone. Time will tell, but the vehicle is performing the way it should right now. I also appreciate that Southern Team Nissan did not charge me diagnostic fees or repair costs for addressing these concerns. While I still believe the original situation could have been handled much better, I think it's important to recognize when someone takes ownership of a problem and genuinely tries to resolve it. Throughout all of this, my Rogue itself has otherwise been a reliable vehicle. My frustrations were never really about the vehicle as much as they were about getting longstanding concerns taken seriously and receiving consistent information. In the end, Jim Wise and the team at Southern Team Nissan succeeded where several other Nissan dealerships had fallen short. Because of that, I'm updating my review from 1 star to 4 stars. The original experience was not deserving of 5 stars, but the effort, professionalism, and willingness to make things right absolutely deserve recognition. read more

Apparently first team is now Southern Team. There are no signs showing where the parts department is from outside so a nice staff walked me over and rang the bell. Parts were quick and friendly. Over the lifespan of a car I've spent thousands on maintenance. It's an investment and one I'm glad to do. I won't though be spending that at First Team Nissan. Here's the story: New Nissan. Needs an oil change. And so I called First Team. I then experienced two folks in a row who were both snarky and seemed to have other & better things to do. I don't post reviews on Yelp often but when I do it's simply because the customer service was poor. I don't expect much and will often extend quite a bit of grace. But, two times in a row in a span of seconds is just not acceptable. It's 2024. Having basic business manners shouldn't be cutting edge. It's the bare minimum. read more

Delivery went smooth, except the same old push to up sell maintenance and warranty extras.

We were looking for a first car for our daughter who was turning 16. We wanted the most inexpensive car being sold right now which is the Nissan Versa. We researched long and hard for dealers in the VA/NC/SC area. Many dealers in North Carolina only wanted to sell the 2016's that they still had in stock. In Virginia, many of the dealers played the old tired games of trying to show prices that didn't really exist. They take off the $865 delivery charge to show a low price but by the time you add that back in plus the admin. fees, the price grows $2,000 which on a car of this price is a huge increase. But then we found First Team in Roanoke. We contacted them online and we received an email on a Sunday when they are officially closed. We went back and forth with Mel Dobbs during the week arranging the deal. We drove up Saturday morning, a lovely two hour trip through the foothills of Virginia. Unfortunately my wife had come down with a cold but Mel promised that he would make the process as fast as possible. We were in and out with our new car in much less than an hour, No needless time wasting which was much appreciated. The only regret that we have is that they are a little too far away to get our services done but we will definitely drive back up to buy our next car. Buying a car is the second largest purchase that most people make. Why not make it as pleasant as possible and deal with people like Mel? Even if they aren't your local dealer, make a day trip out of it. You won't regret the decision. read more

Don't fall for their lies. I was told when I bought my car I would get "free" oil changes for life. I have literally never had a free oil change from them. I always have to pay for some maintenance they recommend. I decide to decline their maintenance and now I am kicked out of the so called free oil change program. What a scam. I will never buy a car from this company again. read more

Mike White and his team was extremely helpful with an unexpected engine issue I had during a cross county road trip. They ran diagnostics for about $120. After 45 minutes, a simple fix and answering all my questions, I was back on the road. Mike even called after their service hours to make sure everything was running fine. read more

Took my Versa in three times for the same major complaint, along with some minor other issues. Each time, they blew off my major complaint by focusing on the minor ones, saying, "Let's get these other problems fixed first." On the third trip there (leaving my car for four days), they told me that one problem I had was a "known issue" (despite telling me on the second trip that the problem was due to "dried out grease". If it was a known issue, why tell me it was due to bad grease on an earlier visit? Parts that were supposedly ordered and in stock were not. Oh, and my major complaint? The reason I took it in three times? It was never resolved. The car STILL makes the noise that I took in in for. The poor service was finally too much and I gave up. I've bought two cars from First Team. Thanks to their crappy service, there will NOT be a third. read more

Dropped my new Frontier off Saturday for its first service. When I dropped off, my tire pressure light was on. I assumed it would be discovered and corrected through the multi-point inspection. I picked the vehicle up after the service department had closed. To my surprise the tire pressure light was still on. I spoke with someone in the sales department and they sent me a couple blocks down the road to have a tire shop properly adjust the tire pressure. Following monday, I receive a quality assurance call. I described my experience. He quickly apologized for the dealership, and hung up on me. First impression of First Team Nissan will unfortunately be a lasting impression. read more

I was just browsing through Yelp this afternoon and I came across the review on here about the dipstick. The same thing happended to me when I was working on my Nissan-----I was kinda dirty and greasy for being under the hood--- I mean, otherwise, I would say I was well groomed for the day. I needed to get a PCV valve and order a missing interior plastic piece on my 3.5 year old Nissan. You would have thought that I was brining in the plague the way I was treatred. I really cant believe it. Not to mention several years ago when a recall on another Nissan had to be done. I made an appointment, went there, and then was told the parts didn't come in because of all the security due to 9/11. What a load. But, then, I went to thinking about what happened when I bought my last Nissan there. They didn't disclose all their fees. When I got into finance and then told me "they have to" and they cannot wave or reduce any fees. I mean it would have been fine if this was presented up front and not at the point where you got a pen in your hand. The finance manager said something like "dont give up your one chance" as if I couldnt go somplace else. Shady is a good word and a word that makes total sense. Be careful out there. read more

Went in because we heard their $7500 over kbb trade in special. A total lie: it was -$1000 under fair trade value on a NEW car. We've bought five cars since we've been married, but never experienced the scam dealer before. We will never go here again. read more

Just the facts - you decide. My family and I went to 1st Team on 11-8-14 to purchase a 2014 Nissan Juke. My wife had checked it out on line and had spoken to a salesperson on the phone. When we arrived we were greeted by this salesperson and the process started. We agreed to talk money on the purchase price and the trade-in value. We were shown a video about their pricing scheme and were shown meaningless stickers from other dealerships showing sticker prices of their cars ( which had nothing to do with a Juke ). After determining that there was no discount available on the new car price ( they had already discounted it ), we began the trade-in value talk. I came with print-outs of average trade-in values of the 2008 Scion XD from KBB. 1st Team claims to use KBB values for pricing. KBB had the average trade-in value for the car at $ 7,600.00, the 1st Team first offer was $ 4,300.00. I told the salesperson they had to do alot better, they came back with an offer of $ 5,000.00, once again I explained that they had to do better. The a manager came to the booth and explained that he had no-where to go with the offer as "it did not make good business sence", but he would go to $ 5,400.00. I told him, my wife and the salesperson that was not good enough and if it were up to me the deal would be over and we would leave. But my wife felt like it was alright and we accepted the offer. Upon reading the final bill of sale I noticed that there was a charge of $ 2,900.00 for an extended warranty. This was never agreed on as part of the sale. I had them remove the charge, we finished signing the papers and we left. Today 11-16-14 I went to the 1st Team web site to check out their used car line.
