I've been in regular contact with the folks at First Light since I started working in youth media back in 2006.
They are funding and support organisation for young filmmakers across the UK. They believe that film is a valuable tool in helping to build young people's confidence and skills.
The First Light grants programmes are really easy to understand and apply for - starting with the Pilot programme for one short film (up to £5,000.00) going up to the larger Studio Grant for between two and four films (up to £30,000.00).
Projects have to be devised by young people and ensure that they are involved in all aspects of the production. Competition for funding is tough, but the grants officers will give you good advice before you start on an application.
They also run specialist workshops and training for young filmmakers - including programmes held at the prestigious Pinewood Studios.
I've been to lots of events organised by them and dealt with lots of different people from the office. They have always been really friendly and helpful. Everyone there is passionate about helping young people and film.
