An absolute joke of a bank... We recently took out a loan with this company when purchasing our sprinter van build. My husband and I have no experience in loans or financing related to this type of business and we really were looking for guidance and competent lenders to get this loan done correctly. The loan contact we dealt with was named Katie. She offered to fund our loan but also offered to handle titling the vehicle for us. When we started our loan process, she seemed quite competent but as we started working on insurance timing and titling the vehicle, the ball was completely dropped. We later found out that Corporate (Tiffany) sent over paperwork to Katie to get titling done correctly and Katie per corporate, Katie did not follow up, did not sign the paperwork correctly, and hence when we came to pick up our vehicle, nothing was ready for us legally to get on the road. The excuse Karen, the apparent branch manager, gave us as to why things weren't done was that Katie was pregnant and on maternity leave for some of our loan process. It would make sense to me that when someone knows they will be gone on maternity leave that they would follow up or pass along any outstanding information or jobs that had yet to be completed to other coworkers. Maternity leave and pregnancy is not an excuse for why work was not done before maternity leave either. We were very disappointed by the lack of response and remorse on the business side of things when we came to pick up our van. We spent the first three days after getting the van either at the DMV, coordinating with corporate to send us paperwork that should have been in our hands prior to the vans completion, and speaking to very rude and incompetent staff trying to figure out where the ball was dropped. If a business drops the ball and apologizes then does things to make it right, I absolutely would go back to them. However, this bank did not do that. They not only dropped the ball, but they did not apologize. They made us feel like we did something wrong and we had to be the ones to sort it out. We have tried to contact them multiple times since October to ask about titling and loan fees with no follow up from Karen...again the apparent branch manager.... If you are looking for a bank to help you seamlessly take out a loan and make the process of getting a car, sprinter van, RV, etc. this is absolutely NOT the bank for you. read more

This is the worse bank. If you need any kind of customer service, plan on being On Hold for several minutes to hours, plan on someone disconnecting you (on the bank's end) anytime they transfer you to talk to someone else, and don't plan on talking to anyone from a local bank unless you go to the bank in "person". This has been a frustrating experience since my old bank merged with FIB. Don't be surprised when you get someone that speaks broken english with a thick accent to help you and good luck understanding them. the worst bank I have ever banked with. they allowed thousands in unauthorized transactions to come out of my account and when I filed a claim and first interstate refused to do anything about it because it's outside of "their timeframe"! I trusted these people to do my banking and never should have. This bank has to have the absolute worst customer service out of any business I have ever worked with. After getting a fraud alarm by text, in broken english I got sent a phone number by First Interstate Bank that is a phone center located in India, I have literally no idea if this is a scam or not so I hang up and call a local bank number. Turns out within 2 weeks of the merge my card number got stolen or leaked... crazy... So I call customer support to get my card locked and to order a new temporary card. Call 2 times, get hung up on before they even answer after 15 minute waits, call one more time, after 1h 30 minutes of being on hold I finally get an answer and they say they shut it down but I need to go into the local bank to do anything else since they already sent a card that I'll get in TWO WEEKS??? I go to the local bank to get a temporary debit card, it was said that it would be automatically activated, I get it on friday, turns out it's not automatically activated, so I call the NUMBER ON THE STICKER ON THE CARD, and they say they can't activate temporary cards, SO I CALL THE NUMBER ON THE CARD, same terrible company in India answers and say they can't activate temporary cards. THEN WHY IS THE NUMBER ON THE CARD IN THE FIRST PLACE FIRST INTERSTATE? HOW ABSOLUTELY BRAINLESS CAN YOU BE TO PUT A CUSTOMER SUPPORT NUMBER ON A CARD THAT THE CARD ISN'T MANAGED BY. Fees everywhere and very disorganized. 1. On top of normal $3 ATM fees, FIB adds another $2.50. Bold move FIB. 2. I constantly see transactions on my statement where the merchant name is just a bunch of numbers- no way to tell where the transaction occurred or if it's even legit. 3. They completely lost a $455 verified refund issued by Amazon. 4. When they acquired my old bank, I lost all of my transaction history from my old bank- losing all that data means I can't track my spending trends. 5. They make it nearly impossible to download and analyze your own data. The description of every transaction starts with a random number, so you can't group things together in a spreadsheet. Not to mention the weird merchant names e.g. "424801 NST THE HOM EDEP" (should be "HOME DEPOT") that make it even more difficult to analyze your own data. 6. Cross-border fees, currency conversion fees. Never had these with any other bank. I'm really surprised this bank even exists considering the way they do business. read more

My credit is the worst it's ever been so finding even a Secured Card was difficult for me but I was approved for the First Interstate's Secured MasterCard. They did do a hard pull (Equifax) just to confirm my info, but I had some fraud so I reported it to them and they closed that account and issued a new account, BUT, it's been OVER a month and I still have not received my card ! Their website (no App available) is horrible about updating. I also made two payments IN one of their locations (Lynnwood, WA) and after two weeks I had to go into their office and show them the receipts and then those two cash payments showed up. *If you make any kind of cash payment ALWAYS keep the receipt until it posts. Had I not have kept the two receipts I would have been out $1050 !! Also, when I called their customer service center in Montana, they were just plain rude and it was like I was bother them instead of treating me like a customer. They are the most racist bank, they profile their customers when it come to loans. Let me say if you area minority regardless of what credit score they tell you they look at for loans and make good money they will never give you a loan. I have been with them since 2013 when it was great Western bank. It's been on my to-do list to switch Banks because of multiple other issues after the transition to interstate Bank from Great Western. So many headaches. I initiated two disputes with First Interstate Bank last week for charges in the amount of $2,060 each for a website that I hired someone to build, but never received. The person who contacted me via email was: Joe Scherry Processor II, Debit Cards First Interstate Bank W: 406-255-5479 | email joseph.scherry@fib.com He said that I needed to give him "proof of a refund" before he could process my dispute. If I had a refund, I wouldn't need to file a dispute, would I? I told him that it made no sense that he was requesting proof of a refund. He was extremely rude to me and refused to explain anything in detail. His communication skills are terrible and he made me feel like I was doing something wrong by wanting my $4,120 back for a website that I never received. When I began to ask him detailed questions about what exactly he was requesting of me, he sent the same auto-response, making sure to add bold and highlighted text, as if to insult my intelligence. He made no effort to help me with these charges. He initially said that I had until March 23rd to provide the documents, and then 10 minutes later he said he cancelled my dispute and said that I would have to file again. This is a time-sensitive matter and this employee had absolutely no regard to the theft of my money that took place. I'm absolutely shocked that First Interstate bank is ok with treating their customers this way. It's clear to me that my money is not protected and I'll be closing down both of my accounts as soon as I receive my refunds. First Interstate Bank has a very poor system in place that made me feel like my own banking institution could care less. read more

I was a customer of Great western bank for a very long time and once First interstate took over it got worse and worse, I finally closed my account and switched to a real bank. Do not trust them with your money, I had an issue at Great western they knew me when came in and they addressed me by my name like a neighbor. This bank told me they use an outside company to handle issues, and the number they gave me came up possible scam, so I tried to take care of the issue at the bank and they would not, so I took the loss and move to a very long standing privately owned bank, I sure miss Great western, but I do believe I found an equivalent bank. The local power company accidentally charged the wrong bank account, First Interstate Bank, an account I was planning to close after numerous issues with FIB. I called the power company up and they immediately reversed the charges. However, First Interstate Bank had already charged me an overdraft fee. When I asked them to refund it, they refused to do so - even though there was no overdraft after the power company refunded my money. They have now added another overdraft fee, charging me a total of $65 for a charge that they NEVER PAID. Additionally, they refused to reverse a $99.00 charge that a scam moving company made to my account, changed my pin number without telling me and were too busy to help me change it, and the list goes on. They bought out another bank that I was using and I have regretted staying with them ever since. This is easily the worst company that I have ever banked with and I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

I wasn't able to get my balances or get a working password after the three days they did not allow their customers access to accounts. What a great experience! I needed to convert coins into bills in Medford, Oregon. I contacted a few banks (Chaise did not have a machine for that, Rogue Credit Union provides this type of service only to their own clients and a few more banks told me in a cold manner the same about "no service if I am not a client"). I felt unwelcome and what if I wanted to be a client and upfront from the very 1st attempt, had that negative experience? The only customer friendly place was the 1st INTERSTATE BANK! - They greet me with the smile. - They asked my name. - They offered me a chair. They have my bank account amount COMPLETELY wrong, they themselves seem completely confused as to what's going on, don't even try getting a hold of them becuase minimum you will be on hold for 2 hours. First interstate just bought or smaller branch of great western, loved that bank, been with them since 2009. Handling an issue was like calling my wife, straight to customer service issue solved. Calling first interstate is like calling the irs, after 3 hours on hold, and talking to a representative for 30 seconds you are transferred to hold again. After the 4 hour call issue unsolved. I was with Great Western Bank that they bought out. They said my login would be the same. Yet, I couldn't log in and when they sent a new password for me to use the system couldn't "change the settings". I have been on hold for over an hour and a half now and still waiting. Apparently, they have enough money to buy out a bank but not enough money to actually give you any access to your money. Terrible bank! WORST INTERSTATE BANK DO NOT BANK HERE!!! This is by far the worst bank in the Valley. Online banking does not work at all! There ATM will not take cash deposits. They told me it was scheduled to be repaired, that was 4 weeks ago! I deposited by payroll check on Friday, and they told me my funds would not be available until Wednesday! I tried to cash a check that was a gift from family, they could only give me $20 on a check for $125.00! Ridiculous! I'm shopping for a new bank, and so should you!!! read more

I strongly suggest you select another bank. My son was severely injured in a motorcycle accident and felt as if he needed to get some cash out of his account so he wrote his mother a check. 40 minutes with these folks trying to get money so that my son could put it in his safe since he would be unable to leave the house for two months due to his injuries. Because it was it made out to me and I was not a member of this bank there was a $10 fee in involved. never had issues while banking with Great Western, after merging with First Interstate Bank it makes me want to just keep my money in a jar in my apartment. Customer service over the phone is worthless, I spent over 3 total hours on hold with many "Oh yeah that's a common problem, it'll be fixed within half an hour" or "I'll check with my supervisor" but I had to go into the actual bank location to get my issue resolved. Online banking is always down, I either can't log in at all or I can't view my information after logging in. read more

First Interstate Bank is the definition of "Nickel and Dime-ing America's Working Class" there are absurd fees for everything - they charge you a fee for using another banks ATM - however they have no ATMs in my area - so not only do I pay $3.00 to Bank of America for use of their ATM, First Interstate Banks has the nerve to tack on their own additional fee for doing nothing - REALLY? I was forced into First Interstate Bank because I had an account at Idaho Independent Bank, which was bought by FIB. They send a letter telling us our accounts would be closed if we had a zero balance - so after seeing all the fees they were charging, I moved all my money to another bank - yet they still charged me fees once the account was zero and are now telling me that I owe more than $100.00 in fees and they are turning me over to collections - really! What a joke. I am the CEO of a multi-million dollar ($10 million+) corporation - I would never treat any customer in this fashion, nor would I do business with such an institution - run with you money from this bank - they are only looking to reap unjust profit off your hard-work. I found a bank that pays me back the ATM fees that any banks charges me since I don't have an account at that bank - while FIB charges you for using someone else ATM - what a joke. read more

I signed up for a First Interstate Bank account in 2006 after moving to Bozeman for college. Having 4 locations is extremely convenient, especially with one being on campus. Recently moving out of state I realized how inconvenient FIB is compared to an online bank. My first gripe goes to the ATM. We all hate ATM fees, and to top it off FIB hits you with another 2 dollars if it's not one of their ATMs. My online bank (Ally) doesnt do that, and they even reimburse me any fees I do get . Secondly, charging to exchange money is rediculous. Just another scheme to FIB uses to increase their bottom line. Having roughly 60 dollars in Canadian, they wanted to charge me 20 USD for the conversion. American Federal Savings Bank did it for free, and I'm a non-member. Third, FIB released a fancy new Android / iPhone application that would allow me to snap photos of checks and deposit them. Since moving out of state, I was extemely happy with this as I wouldnt have to get a new bank. Wrong... they want to charge me a dollar to use this feature. Not only are they saving money by not having to pay a teller to cash my check, but they charge me for doing it. Ally bank doesnt charge me a dollar. I will be closing my account down as I get everything transfered over to Ally. Mini Ally Review: The few months I've been with Ally I have nothing but praises. Deposit my checks using my phone, use any ATM I want, and free bill pay. Customer service has always been pleasent, and my phone application tells me how long of a wait I'll have before I call. For basic banking, why not move to Ally. A final bonus to Ally is their interest rates. At 0.84% in savings and 0.40% in checking, I can't believe I stuck with a measly 0.10% and 0.0% at FIB in savings/checking respectivly. read more

I have never had a bad experience with FIB; from the tellers on up! I have a small business and they have worked with me in getting things set up and are always extremely helpful. I like the online banking and enjoy the new feature that allows me to deposit checks using my phone. There are always fees for services, I find this one well worth the dollar! My whole family banks there and I know many non profit organizations that do as well and they have highly recommended FIB. I also like that the people in the bank locally have that friendly MT/WY vibe as do the people on the phone. I switched from Wells Fargo Bank (I unfortunately have horror stories from that bank) and have not regretted it in the past 6 years banking with FIB. My husband and I had a very unfortunate incident with first interstate last March on the day we closed in our new home. The employee forgot about a loan fee and after our title and loan paperwork was already completed, she called my husband at about 4:30 in the afternoon saying he needed to come in and pay the fee, (which was over 4000 dollars and again, after all the paperwork was signed and recorded.) Needles to say, we will NOT be using first interstate for loans in the future and will not recommend it to anyone we know. read more

I had to shut down my bank accounts because they were moving money around without my knowledge or authorization. I was patient and understanding but the problem persisted with no end in sight. The credit card division of First Interstate is even worse. They redeemed a payment but keep sending me statements with interest and late fees for something they were already payed on. I have sent letters with proof from my current bank that it was redeemed on there end and had numerous mind numbing phone calls that lead right back to square one over and over and over again. They have ridiculous excuses for why it's not getting fixed. Most recently I spoke with a very rude and unprofessional lady that gave me an email to send proof of payment but it was an incorrect email address. My vehicle insurance did not list them as the leinholder. The girl at their insurance division said if leinholder information was not on the insurance policy they would throw the paperwork in the trash. The insurance premium they were charging was 4700.00 a year my insurance company charged me 800.00 a year. If this is not racketeering please tell me what it is? I loved First Intsrstate, and have banked with them since about 1998. Their policies about reordering transactions to accrue OD fees is BS, and sometimes their online banking is so screwed up that they have had to refund OD fees to me on multiple occasion because even they cannot explain why the ledger is off so much, showing me as having money while I'm in the red on their end. They just updated all their banking software with a day's notice. I have not been able to access my accounts for three days. I can see nothing of my transactions. The mobile app and internet both don't work. I have to reset my password once a day, and waste HOURS on the phone with them. they say they will pass me on to a specialist, but I just go back to being on hold. I will probably overdraft because I cannot see a damn thing on my account. They can't even work their own system. I am completely screwed. read more
