I've experienced way WAY better experiences than we had with this company handling our refinance title paperwork. I hope that the mistake that was made is the only one that was made! We did a refinance and this was the escrow company. On closing, they paid the wrong amount on the demand from our previous loan. No one noticed it. We received our funds (meant for doing remodeling), and a week or so later, we received final closing papers. Certified copies even. Almost 3 weeks later, we received several urgent calls from the VP of the loan company telling us that escrow had made a mistake of about $1089 which we needed to pay. I'm still not sure why First American didn't call, considering the VP we talked to kept telling me he was in conversations with the VP of First American. Long story short, the VP told me they appreciated our assistance and they would send us "gift cards to make up for it." Naturally, nothing has happened other than the fact that we had to take time off work to wire $1089 to First American and do it quickly because no one reached out to us until the 9th day that they knew about the issue. I'm seriously confounded by this whole situation, which should never have happened and I will definitely NOT use First American on any future transactions. I need to know the title company is reliable and competent and has people check paperwork to be sure it's accurate. read more
