The guy who helped me didn't make me feel stupid and I didn't feel like I was being scammed into buying things I didn't need. He was extremely honest and explained everything to me thoroughly. I highly recommend this location especially for any woman who is used to predatory car shops. The last place I went was half the cost but left me with $400 of repairs after I left. The groupon was a great deal and I honestly wouldn't mind paying full price for the peace of mind knowing my car was in good hands! I will only be doing my car maintenance at this location from now on, I couldn't recommend this shop more!

A woman called me without even identifying herself and immediately said, "You left two negative reviews, and I was surprised to see you on the schedule. I wanted to make sure we were good." What exactly was I supposed to take from that? I had to ask her multiple times whose name was even on these reviews before she finally said mine. One review was from years ago, and the other was from about four months ago. During the conversation, she even acknowledged that in the more recent situation, their employee had given me incorrect information. She stated that she was new manager finally and attempt to "address the issues". So why was I being confronted about an honest review of an experience your own staff mishandled? The entire call felt less like an attempt to resolve a customer-service issue and more like an attempt to make me cancel my appointment. When I finally asked directly whether she still wanted me to bring my vehicle in, suddenly she was stumbling over her words. If you wanted my business, why call me before my scheduled appointment specifically to bring up old negative reviews and tell me you were "surprised" I was on the schedule? It also leaves me with a serious question: Is this how Hometowne Auto Repair contacts every customer who has ever left a negative review, or was I singled out as a Black woman who criticized the service she received? Customers should be able to leave honest reviews--especially when a business acknowledges its employee provided incorrect information--without wondering whether those reviews will later be held against them when they try to obtain service. Bringing up a review from years ago and another from months ago immediately before my appointment was unnecessary, intimidating, and incredibly unprofessional. After that phone call, I certainly did not feel that my business was wanted or that I could comfortably trust this shop with my vehicle. TAKE YOUR CAR HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK! BUYER BEWARE. yes they are cheap but you will pay for it in the long run. let me explain to you my…read moreweek of hell. my car got a flat front tire, and had a bubble in the other one about a week ago on wednesday, and i took it here to get a used tire until i could replace my tires. they didn't have the correct lug nut key so i said that was okay and took this first picture to look at it and see if i could order one. i came back the next day, thursday, to grab some stuff from my car and check to see if there was a lug nut key in it that i had missed, before i spent money on one. i then decided to see if there was anything they had done as there was different staff that i hadn't met yet. the man told me that he did not have the correct lug nut key and i asked him if there was anything that could be done or if i should just wait until saturday for the correct key to come. the man had me drive my flat tire back and forth, three different times, to pull the car out (which didn't make sense to me since it was already backed in), to move it to a different spot, and then to pull it back into the same spot. he then proceeded to hammer the incorrect lug nut key in it and got it stuck, but i was unaware. i gave them the right key on saturday, and again, he had me drive the car on the flat, towards the inside of the shop. i asked if it was okay given that part of the rim was on the ground, and he said yes. i had to leave and go to dinner with my boyfriend that night, so i dropped it off and left it overnight AGAIN. we're coming on 5 days at this point. the next morning on sunday he tells me that the lug nut from thursday was stuck, and that he "didn't know" that it was stuck until saturday. i feel like you would've known by the time that i left thursday...but okay. then proceeds to tell me that I HAD TOLD HIM TO DO IT. and that my only option is to try to burn it out. which i told him not to. as you can see from the pictures he went ahead with that anyways...and again said i told him to do it, now why tf would i want you to BURN MY CAR. then the guy told me that because he can't do it, he's going to cover the cost of replacing my rim and tire. my boyfriend came to see what could be done, and noticed that they had burnt the wheel. my boyfriend had it towed to another shop to get a new rim and tire, and they got in his face attempting to fight him. i thought that this would've been a quick tire change, but it turned out that it was a whole week of hell. they ruined my rim. the two spanish men who closed on wednesday were very nice, this complaint is not about them. the man i talked to explicitly stated not wanting to do anything because he knew it would mess the car up. giving one star because i can't give any less. what a nightmare. edit: not only did they burn my car, the other tire that needed changing they forgot to put the wheel cap back on, and did not put on the valve stem cap. so that's MORE things they did wrong.

Instead, Dominion Tire completely changed the experience. They were fast, professional, and knew exactly what they were doing. I was in and out in about 10 minutes, no issues, no runaround. Took my car in to have brakes fixed, get a new battery & have an internal physical to see what else…read moremight be wrong with it. They said they conducted a full exam & found 11 things wrong & 27 things right. My vehicle is a 2016 so I asked them to be honest and tell me if they could get it in good running shape. I'm on a fixed income and didn't want to spend a ton if it couldn't be salvaged. They swore they could fix it & get it in great shape. They fixed the brakes & put in a new battery. I wanted them to fix the AC coz it went out. They put $800 worth of freon in the AC. I spent close to $7,000 in toto! The engine light was on when I drove it home! WTF?! They said they had taken the vehicle for a drive after working on it and said it was great. Did they ignore the engine light?! The car had a dead battery for a couple months & sat in my driveway before I took it in. I couldn't open the doors becuz it was all electronic locks. They told me rodents had obviously been in it when I first spoke with them about the test results. Gross. I didn't understand what that meant exactly. I learned when I picked it up. Rat or mouse poop & urine was all over the floors & in the cup holders. I horrified! I hired a detail company to clean out the car when I got home. That cost another $700! I prob would have junked it based on the poop alone. I def would not have agreed to spending $7,000! They should have told me how awful it was inside. But, nope. They wanted their money so they skipped that part. I could barely drive home I was so upset. Poop everywhere & the engine light was on! The freon they put in the AC lasted 1 month! I told them I wanted them to fix the AC -- they said they put colorant in it and wanted to see if there was a leak. I told them there was a leak becuz the freon had leaked out the year prior. I just wanted it fixed. No experiments. My brakes have started squeaking again -- 2 months after being in their shop for more than one week. And, no AC means we are melting from the heat when we drive any where becuz it's summer. I have asked them a couple times to tell me when I could drop off the car becuz they didn't finish the job I paid for. They didn't answer me. Finally I gave up. I didn't want them messing with my car again. I was supremely ripped off. Someone has recommended a different mechanic so I'm going to try them. At least see what they about the shape my car is in. That will be interesting. I'm sure I will be super pissed all over again when they tell me all the things that weren't fixed correctly. So, over the summer, the air conditioning in my car stopped working. The car is less than 10 years old, and I've had this model before with little to no issues, so I felt more than comfortable grabbing a checkup from this particular station, especially knowing it's family owned. I was charged about $300 for a "AC RECHARGE & DYE" labor and materials. Fine; if that's what it takes, it sucks to spend money but at least my ac is working. I noticed right away that the ac worked intermittently or not at all. Took it back to this same station, they ran some kind of test and concluded it's fine. But the thing is, it was never fine. I didn't pay for a partial repair, I paid for a FULL repair. As in, I expect my ac to function after specifically shelling out my limited wages that week to pay for it. Is this an unreasonable expectation? I guess so. So let's fast-forward me being gaslit for about two months to when I was driving home from a particularly brutally hot day at my temporary job, and being mad because, Goddammit I paid for ac and I'm not getting it. I brought it back to this same place since it's blatantly obvious they never actually fixed what they charged me for. Today I was charged almost $200 for "A/C DIAGNOSTIC: PERFORM SYSTEM TEST FOR PRESSURES AND A/C FUNCTIONS. CHECK FOR AC DYE. WE FILLED OVER THE SUMMER AND IT IS NOW NOT WORKING. COMPRESSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. FLOW SENSOR INTERMITTENTLY WORKING." OKAY SO. The last sentence appears to be the only thing that makes any sense. However, "WE FILLED IT OVER THE SUMMER AND IT IS NOW NOT WORKING" is misleading and frankly, false. To say "NOW" it's not working is entirely untrue, because it wasn't working directly after the first "repair." As I said, I brought it back after the first "repair" and I was gaslit because "sometimes the ac kicks in." Nice. As for the second part, that the "COMPRESSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED", WHY on God's green earth did you not recognize this little issue the first time you supposedly diagnosed my car? They proceeded to provide me with a $700 estimate for an "actual" repair. Ma'am, you already charged me $300 for absolutely nothing, I was gaslit into thinking that sometimes-working-ac-is-better-than-no-ac-at-all (until it stopped working altogether), and now you charge me nearly $200 to evaluate the first diagnostic you dicked up and for which you gave me the wrong "repair"? If you had the capability to know what was actually wrong in August when I first brought her in, what was stopping you from doing whatever sort of magic diagnostic you did today, that you charged me $176.49 more for? I would have paid the $700 you gave on the estimate then and there. So, overall, I paid about $500 (while I'm between jobs), for my ac to be broken and remain broken. This is absolutely predatory behavior for a business (local or not). Save yourself a lot of money and go somewhere else.
