I visited the Rockford, IL at the W. Jefferson Ave location to diagnose car having no heat and the coolant temperature sensor not moving from the cold position. I told the customer service person beforehand to assess my temperature coolant sensor, my thermostat, or the radiator. The diagnostic results recommended a thermostat/housing change, a temperature coolant sensor change, and a coolant flush for the total of $607.84. Funny that I replaced my thermostat/housing 6-months earlier. I asked them why they couldn't just isolate one issue instead of all that reasons that could be the cause since I am paying $130 for the diagnostic to find the problem. I didn't have to pay that cost to know the same suspected issue that I told them when I brought in the car when I tested my car with a mini-size diagnostic tool. Therefore, I paid an unnecessary $130. Actually, the technician didn't tell me anything different but to change everything. This is like they knew the issue but didn't want me to know so they could overcharge me for unnecessary parts replacements. So, I requested an appointment to just have the lessor of the cost serviced with the sensor change. I told the customer service person that I would wait. She suggested me to leave my car for half the day for a 20-minute job. I said to forget it and called a Firestone in the Alpine Rd. location in Rockford, IL. that had available technicians to provide a quicker response to servicing my vehicle. The Firestone at the Alpine Rd. location person told me that they could use my prior diagnostic from another Firestone, and they would have to charge me for another diagnostic. I told them that's highway robbery. All Firestone locations should honor one another's diagnostics. So, the mistrust led me to buy a $20 coolant temperature sensor from Auto Zone and replace it myself. Following the 15-minute replacement, my car issue was resolved. A $20 vs 607.84 cost, but I was out of $130.35 for a diagnostic service that included parts, labor, and supplies. I need my $130.35 back for the poor-quality diagnostic service that didn't isolate the issue to change only the $20 temperature coolant sensor as the faulty part. Allen R. read more

Took my F250 in to get an oil change, and the service lady said they couldn't accommodate my size of vehicle. Nevermind the fact they have a parking lot full of econo-vans and other F250's (all vehicles of similar size and weight) waiting for service. Why not just say they couldn't get it in today versus lying to my face? I do NOT recommend this particular store and definitely will NOT be having Firestone servicing my vehicles ever again. read more

So........I just moved to Rockford from San Diego. I needed to get new tires for the snow. I purchased a lifetime alignment through Firestone many years ago when my ex husband worked for them. It seemed like the obvious choice. I called to make the appointment told " Guy " the service writer that I would like new tires and that I also had an lifetime alignment. I was thinking that an alignment would be done while installing the new tires.......silly me ! We waited for an 1 hour and 45 minutes. When it was finished I asked the tech if the alignment was done. His response was " It wasn't on the ticket " and stomped away. Yikes but ok. I was thinking it's not a huge biggie. I can just come back. We checkout, pay and leave. TWO hours later my front passenger tire blows out while making a sharp turn to go to my boyfriends moms house. SUPER SCARY !!! Mind you.....it's 5p and it's dark. So I called the store back. She ( Christine ) says she is going to call for a tow truck. We hang up. I realize I need to know if they are going to fix it roadside or are they towing it to the shop ( this is my ONLY vehicle ). She ( Christine ) answers the phone annoyed and rude. I ask her those questions. Her response " I can't do anything until I get the car towed " I said how long will that be. Her response " WELL as soon as you let me get off the phone with you. REALLY !!!! I am the one with the blown tire 2 hours after purchasing new tires from you and you are going to be rude to me ! PRICELESS !!! In the mean time my boyfriends step dad comes to help. He looks at the valve stem and realizes it is really loose. He tightens it with his fingers. Puts air in it and it's been fine since. Now I am not a mechanic but you would think it would be common practice to triple check something like a valve stem before sending someone out on the road !!! I have never had a problem with Firestone until now. But because of their incompetence, lack of pride in their work and bad customer service I will no longer be a costumer. It's a complete waste of time and money. I don't even feel comfortable going back for my lifetime alignment. These practices are down right scary and could have ended very different. read more

Took my car in to get fixed for the first time based on recommendations from co-workers and proximity to my office was nice too. Good experience. BUT when the part failed and it had to be taken back in a few days later, that is where they gained my review! Although I was without a vehicle for over a week (waited for the part to come in), the staff was very helpful. I did have to contact them a couple times to find out status but they were all over it when I did. They found fault with the part they had originally installed and got the cost covered by warranty. It was a wonderful relief to know that a costly problem was handled so well. LADIES listen up! Even though I'm female, I have a good knowledge of my cars so I'm always interested to see how I will be treated. These guys could not have been more AWESOME! I would recommend these guys on their service and respect of their customer. read more

I ran over a tiny nail and the tire went flat. Since it was a near new tire, told my wife to take in in and get it plugged. She comes back with a new tire they sold her for $125. I went back and said WTF, show me the old tire. You could barely even see where the tiny hole was. They have this bs policy, obviously to sell tires that they refuse to repair tires if they have to patch or plug anywhere that is not exactly in the 4" of tread. I said, FU and took it across the street where they plugged it in 15 minutes and even asked me (since the hole was so small) did it even leak. I got a "Low Tire Pressure" message on my dashboard, so since the Firestone at 500 W. Jefferson St. in Rockford, Illinois was just down the street from my job, I took my car in, thinking I had picked up a nail or something. It turned out that it was just the extreme cold temperature that was making my tires go down. When I tried to pay the Firestone people for their service, they refused to take any money. They also let me know about a couple of problems (like a squeaky fan belt) that they'd noticed while working with my car and wrote it up in an invoice for me. After I'd driven off, I noticed that they'd topped off my gas tank for me! This is my idea of good business practice. In future, I'll have no qualms about using their service again. This place is horrible!!! They tried to get my daughter to pay for $2800 in repairs for a $1200 car!!! They also suggested oil change and belts. Both of which had recently been changed!! They seem to prey on women and anyone not knowledgeable of cars!! Steer clear of this place!!! read more

So frustrated with Firestone. I went to the one in Rockford, Illinois a couple weeks ago and they charged me $188 to fix my AC. That price included about $50 to check for leaks. They said there were no leaks. The rest of the money was basically for Freon. It was too much, but I just wanted to get it fixed. Then, I realize a few days later it's actually not working. It was just blowing the temperature of the air outside, and when I got it fixed it was cold so I didn't realize it wasn't working. I took it back, they said I needed $1,200 worth of work to completely replace the evaporator. I was like, for $1,200 I will just roll down my windows. But I have a friend who knows about cars so I took it to him. He checked it today and said the Freon was just low. He put more in and for literally $20 my AC is working now. So either Firestone didn't put enough Freon in originally, or there is a leak and the $50 they charged me to check for leaks was BS. Also, replacing the evaporator wouldn't have even fixed the problem. They wanted me to pay them $1,200 for something that wouldn't have even fixed the problem!!! I'm so frustrated by this whole situation, but I'm glad I have a friend I can trust to look at my car. I hate leaving bad reviews online and stuff. But seriously, you guys, never, ever, ever go to Firestone. And the more people I tell this story to, the more I hear similar stories from other people being told by Firestone that they need thousands of dollars in work they don't need. New life goal is to make sure nobody I know ever goes to Firestone. UPDATE: Blasted Firestone on social media. Because they are awful. Social media team reached out to me and had the area manager call me. She scolded me, said I still need the $1,200 repair and that the other mechanic was wrong. And said $1,200 is typical for AC work. And said if I'm planning to have the car for awhile the repair the other mechanic did (adding Freon) was going to make it break. So in conclusion, never, ever, ever, ever go to Firestone. read more

I've always had really good luck with them. Granted, 90% of the times is for oil changes, but I've gotten tires there and had some minor repairs and I've always been really happy. I'm picking up my car today for an oil change and replacement of a headlight bulb and will probably bring in my wife's car tomorrow for an oil change. read more
