I took my car to the Alpine location in the beginning of May for an inspection they told me that it was my transmission that needed to be fixed. They let my car sit before speaking to the warranty company. The transmission got shipped to the auto shop. June 6, but I didn't receive my car back until six weeks after !!!! July 13 with it still shaking and vibrating after they said that they test drove it and it was OK to pick up , unfortunately, that wasn't the truth The motor mounts was missing two of them and it was an obvious with the work they had just done with it being right above the transmission. I had to take my car way out to the other autoshop in Belvedere just to get that fixed. This place is a big joke from the management on now. I wouldn't. recommend this place to a dog !! Marks Auto was a God send!! we were out of town from grand rapids and at 10pm in chicago noticed a grinding noise. we made it to rockford and scheduled an appointment via google for 7am the next morning. we showed up slightly before 7 just in case it was first come first serve... and they took us immediately. before opening!! they checked everything over, identified the problem- a bolt missing on the caliper. they had a spare and replaced it with no hesitation. they thoroughly checked the brakes and rotors all around and sent us on our way with NO CHARGE!!! we were so stressed and had no clue if we would make it to our destination... thanks to Marks Auto we were able to get back out on the road by 8am and make it to our destination safely. I'm very grateful for Mark's Auto Service. Our car broke down late one night on the tollway and we had it towed there, based upon the recommendation of the tie truck driver. Mark's had the capacity to fix it the next morning. When I called in the first half hour after they opened, they had already looked at it and diagnosed the problem and they were actually calling me at the same time as I was calling them! I brought my car in to be fixed, they charged $700 and the issue I had with my car was not fixed at all. So I called, they didn't answer, I left a message, they never called me back, and now the car is a thousand times worse. I can't believe I was charged $700 for something that didn't even work. I can't afford that. They want me to bring it back in, but I don't want it fixed, as we're getting rid of it. I just want a refund, even if just a partial one. Yesterday 05/29/2019 I called Mark's with a simple honest question. ( Do you work on hybrids?) Answer was ( We sure do). How soon can you get here? 15 minutes later I checked in with them. I told him my 2003 Prius with 139,000 miles shut down on me every 15 miles. I told them that I could leave it with them that it was a gas saver spare. It went from the tech needing to run the codes to we need a $100 to run the codes to we believe it could be a bad cell. to it needs a whole new battery to they don't do them often so they needed to contact Anderson Toyota to it needs a major overhaul $7000 possible repair for a toilet rice burner that I paid $1700 for on Tuesday. One week ago I brought my car in for the repair to one brake line. Before I could have my car towed and have Terry to take a look at it. A Spanish speaking man stated his name was Mike and he posed himself to be the owner of the shop. He continued to say that he had already had a private conversation with Terry about how much the shop was going to charge me. He stated that I would be charged $2,000 for my car's brake line without ever seeing the car the first. This same Spanish speaking man called me twice and left messages about asking me to bring in that$2,000 for my car to be fixed. I told Terry that 2 weeks prior I had my insurance company to come out and inspect both my 2 cars to report that both my cars were experiencing the same problem of needing the brake line fluid cups and lines to be repaired and replaced. Terry proceeded to say that not only do I need 4 brake lines done but I needed all rotors and pads to be replaced. There are only 2 brake lines that can be visually seen on the car. Terry tells me that by opening the brake lines from 4 ends counts as 4 brake lines in total. Terry gave me 2 typed estimates for both the back and front with the all parts to be $950 and the labor to be close near a thousand for brake pads (that are sold 2 to a set) and rotors, with 2 brake lines. I believe my back brake line was cut on purpose to the point where when touched the brake fluid ran down my hand. The car insurance inspector never documented that the back brakes were in need of repair. So this tells me that this shop goes and cuts customer's car lines so they can have something to repair and have the customer to be at their mercy. This was clearly a 500% to 700% mark up of severe price gouging, on both the parts and the labor. As I had to sit and wait for my car to be towed back to my home ; I also witnessed how the other customers were being gouged on price and labor : one couple was charged $500 for a simple tune up ( problem with a spark plug that only cost 69 cent), another man was charged $1600 for a gas gasket and he stated their was a line in his car that was damaged, and he also had to rent a car to complete his out of town trip. read more

They work on just about everything, bmw, Audi, Porsche also your everyday ford Chevy Chrysler. Everyone in the shop are very nice and approachable, definitely people that you can grab a beer with. If you usually go to the dealership, you have found your alternative! I give this facility 5 stars. Highly recommended to friends and family no matter what car you have or what problem is going on. After receiving a oversized 4-color glossy bulk mailing with a $19.95 oil change special, I decided to try this place. Went in with my flyer & asked for the oil change special. The counter guy took my name, address, make, model, etc. Then said, "That will be $43.95" I explained I was there for the special they advertised for $19.95. 'That is for semi synthetic oil and we are out.' I don't know what semi-synthetic oil is but I have never paid $43.95 for an oil change in over fifty years of driving. I had my car serviced (oil change) at a repair shop some 20+ miles from Mark's Auto Service. I didn't know at the time, but know now, that the company who changed my oil had overfilled my fluids, oil and antifreeze, to the point of antifreeze and oil leaking out of the car, covering my engine and underside. On my way to Rockford from my (not yet discovered) "oil-change-gone-wrong", I realized something wasn't right. I started to become overpowered by a chemical smell I couldn't readily recognize. It was so powerful I felt that I might feint. My head was spinning, I felt nauseous and confused. I pulled over and took a few minutes to overcome that very strange feeling of being close to feinting. I was very alarmed and afraid my car might have something very major wrong with it and might break down in the middle of the interstate. I finally made it to the first auto repair shop I could find (Mark's Auto Service). I was helped by a very nice employee who told me he would take a look at my car and try his best to figure out what was wrong. I was so happy someone could help me. I was very afraid being on the interstate like that, it had shaken my nerves, I had been crying (as girls do when they become frightened to that extent). A man with longer hair, older than 50, short in stature, (I believe this to be Mark, the owner) came into the waiting area to talk to me about my car. He was trying to explain to me what they had found wrong with my car, he used a lot of "car language" I couldn't understand, mostly because I don't know much about cars, and partly because my brain felt like goop from whatever chemicals I had been assaulted with just minutes before. He then told me the car was completely wet underneath, which was confusing to me. When I asked him what he meant by that he became visibly irritated, standing up quickly and saying "Since you can't understand, let's go, I'll show you whats underneath your car". He took me to my car, in the shop, and started to raise it with a lift. He had been speaking to me in an aggressive manner before we got to my car, however by now his attitude had become so obtuse and overbearing I felt I needed to say something. I told him to stop being so aggressive with me, and explained that I just needed help getting my car back on the road. In less of an angry tone and more of an annoyed tone, he showed me the bottom of the car. It was very wet with oil. I asked him if he may have found any lines that were disconnected or broken, he then said "It's not wet, so therefore the lines are intact" (or something to that effect). This didn't make sense to me because he had just told me the entire bottom of the car was "completely wet". So I pointed that out to him, saying "How can it not be wet when you just said the entire bottom of the car is completely wet?". He became so angry after I said that, that he then yelled across the shop "We're done, get the car down and pull it up front" He said this two or three times in the same aggressive manner he had since moment 1. I was completely dumbfounded by this, so I just followed behind him silently, with my head down, until we got into the front office. He never offered me any information I could understand, he never gave me a solution to ANY of the problems I had, he never asked if I would like my car repaired, and then never gave me the chance to have it repaired, as he was now barking orders for other employees to take it out of the shop. I am truthfully unsure of why he treated me this way. One theory is that because I was so visibly shaken from my ordeal on the interstate, he may have been uncomfortable talking to a girl who was crying..? However; that doesn't really explain his aggression towards me. He purposefully made me feel inadequate because I had a hard time understanding his, seemingly, contradictory statements about my car. He embarrassed me in front of a lot of people. He made it very clear to me that he didn't want me there; nor did he want my business. I was so frustrated and hurt by that mans treatment of me, I couldn't fight back the tears. I do drive an older car. I am not a rich person. However, I am no less important in this world because of those things. I deserve to be treated with respect, regardless of what car I drive or how much knowledge I have on a particular subject, or maybe more importantly, regardless of my gender. I do feel that if I had been a man, he would not have treated me that way. I will proudly admit that there were two other employees there that obviously noticed his behavior towards me and (sort of) came to my rescue. They offered me an explanation about my car I could understand, and even options of service! I declined their offer of service, as I had already been through way too much embarrassment. I did not want to speak or be seen by the man who had treated me so poorly. I will be filing a formal complaint. read more

I was referred to Marks Auto Service by my brother when it was discovered during a routine oil change by Meineke that I had a leak in my radiator. The people at the Meineke shop on S. Alpine were like "oh it's not bad but I needed to get it fixed eventually" and gave me an outrageous quote. I then drove right to Marks and they showed me the leak. It was squirting out of my radiator! Not only did they fix it on the spot, but they charged way less than what Meineke quoted me plus did a lot more! I am from out of town. I was camping with my RV in a town about 30 mins away. Anyway, during my camping trip, I ended up trading vehicles and needed the brake controller from my old vehicle re-installed in my new one so I could tow my RV back home. I spent most of Saturday afternoon calling about 20 different places to try and get this thing installed. Nobody could get me in till Wed or Thurs and that is if they could even install this! Most places didn't know how or didn't want to mess with it. So, ready to give up, I made one last call late Saturday afternoon and called Mark's in Rockford. They said bring it in Monday morning first thing and they could do it. I was relieved. When I arrived at Mark's, I was immediately impressed with the friendly service and their ability to get my vehicle right in. My cost was reasonable and they had me in and out relatively quick. I waited in the lobby where they had a TV, free pop, free Kuerig coffee, and free WIFI. I watched TV and worked on my laptop while I sipped free Diet Coke. My only regret is that I do not live in Rockford to be able to utilize Mark's more often. This place is truly a gem when good quality auto service places are very hard to come by. Really great service! I went in on a Saturday with my check engine light on and less than 20 mins they knew exactly what was wrong. I'm not the best with cars and Marco was very helpful explaining to me what was wrong and the next steps I needed to take to fix it. Gave me a great estimate on how much the price will be and 3 days laters ( because I procrastinated) he had my part ready in the shop and was able to work around my busy schedule and fix my car on the following Saturday and it only took 2 hours! Drives so smooth now as if it was new. I'm very satisfied with the service I receive here from start to finish. And to top it off the actual price was lower than the estimate he gave me earlier that week when I was already okay with the higher price but of course I enjoyed the lower price even more. Marks Auto was listed in Yelp with a few good reviews so I suggested she drive there and see if they can help her. They were WONDERFUL. They put the car up on a rack, found the issue, fixed it and sent her on her way. They could have took advantage and pretty much charged whatever they wanted, and made her wait, as they were busy, but they did not. Heard a whirling sound from the rear wheel while driving on the expressway from Chicago; my wheel was hot and I knew there was a problem. My wife found this shop on line, and we pulled in around 1:30 on a Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend; this large shop had plenty of cars in the lot, and a number up on racks, but wasn't all that busy. They got us in right away. While I was there, two or three locals came in to discuss future jobs they were considering having done (I was glad to see that this shop seems to have do business in its community). The rear brake caliper had seized, and this shop got two guys working on the car and got us back on the road late that afternoon; as long as the tires were off, they did my front brakes, too, which I'd been dallying over. First brake job at 93,000 miles. I couldn't believe I wasn't stranded overnight: kids, hotel, hotel out of town paid for -- would have completely sucked! These guys were friendly, easy to work with, and struck me as honest, though I paid real "walk in" prices, i.e., no $79 brake special. Regardless, I think I saved money over what I would have paid in Chicago. (I've been ripped off and lied to plenty over the years, and these guys were straight up, though I didn't double check the hours against a shop book or anything.) Their work is covered by a nationwide warranty network, too, which is a huge bonus. I'd return without a second thought, though I hope it never comes to that! read more
