I brought my truck to Kurt's based on a recommendation from my father and another friend. I'm glad they did. My truck needed to have the brakes worked on. They were getting soft and I knew that there was a problem. I made an appointment, was able to drop it off and head on my way. They called me to keep me up to date with what they found and what their recommendations where. They made their recommendations and were not pushy if I declined some of the services. I ended up needing new rotors and some other maintenance. They were able to get it all done in the same day and for well under what I had been quoted from other shops. A couple of weeks later my wife tells me that I have no brake lights on my truck. Not that I had one that was out, but all of them. I figured it was an electrical issue. I go back to Kurt's and explained my problem. They had me in a bay and working on it in minutes. Fortunately it was just I burned out the bulbs at the same time. WHEW! I would like to send a big THANK YOU for your professionalism, and for saving me a lot of money. A few weeks ago my truck was making a "pinging noise". I took it in to get it looked at and the mechanic who looked at my truck. Did some research, and found the there was a service bulletin from GM about this "Pinging noise" In the engine. He told me to take my truck to a GM Dealership because it should be covered under "The power train warranty" I did and after some back and forth GM has agreed to replace my engine, and it's free to me. After reading a bunch of positive reviews I decided to bring my car here when the engine seemed to be misfiring. When I explained to the mechanic what was happening with the car he just looked at me like he had no idea what I was saying. Afterward he asked what I wanted him to do with the car... I had already said that I didn't know what the problem was so maybe a good start would be to diagnose it? A few hours later the mechanic called still unsure what to do. A few months before I had similar issues caused by a spark plug so I asked him if he checked those and he said he'd replace them but couldn't guarantee that would fix the problem. Why would you replace something that's not the cause of the problem? Why are you trying to charge for services I don't need? I gave up and told him to give me a minor tuneup so I could just have my car back. read more

Four out of Five Stars because I like to save my five star ratings for the freakishly good. But I have only good things to say about Kurt's Service Center. I am new in Rockford Area. So when I needed an oil change, I did a quick search online for the best mechanic in town. A lot of people say that is Kurts so I decided to give them a try. I brought my own oil and filter. They were fast and well priced ($24 for labor). I was there for about 20-30 minutes max. What I really appreciated is that even with a simple procedure like an oil change they were up front and honest about everything. For example: I brought in 6 quarts of oil and the computer said that my car model required seven. They let me know, and I agreed to buy another quart. Then when he finished putting in the six, it leveled off fine without needing the extra quart. He could have charged me for the seventh, which I had already agreed to buy at the recommendation of the automated computer guide. But he didn't. Honesty: the second best quality in a mechanic (the first being able to fix your car, of course). read more

Called in to make an appointment to have the oil changed on my '06 Saab. Despite the car having a GM engine they refused to change the oil on the car. I offered to tell them the part number. They do change the oil on that specific engine, but only if it's under a standard GM name vehicle, which makes exactly no sense. Also refused an offer for me to come in an show them how the oil is changed in a Saab (there's no magic involved). I'm rating a 2 because the shop seemed to lack the basic understanding of what engine was in the car and flat out refused because they didn't recognize it as a GM product. read more

Was told my auto needed a replacement Valve Cover Gasket from a well known Automotive Shop on South Alpine. I was told it was cracked and was leaking oil. I waited a little while and decided to call another place to check on prices. I called Kurt's and asked if the could do it and how much they would charge..Wow it was gonna be $60.00 less than the other place! And they could get it in that same day! I got a call later in the day by the Owner. He said nothing was wrong with it..No crack..No leaks! He wasn't going to replace the part if it wasn't necessary! WOW! Seriously? They checked my car out from front to back..Checked tires..Air..Fluids...Lights..I was taking a trip out of town and they wanted it to be safe! Kurt's Service Centers took good care of my family when our minivan broke down in the middle of a long trip. I called Kurt's just barely before closing time on a Friday, and they made extra efforts to help us secure a rental, get our vehicle to the shop, and take care of the repair while we went on our way. They even arranged it so we could pick it up while they were closed. Thanks to Kurt's the whole situation was as stress free as it could've been, and only cost us about 1 hour of time. After making an appointment to have a tailgate switch fixed, i dropped my car off and was told it would only take a few hours. After 4 hours I called to see if they had any answers and they still had not gotten to it. after a few more hours I had to cal again because they still did not call me to let me know what was wrong. The short of the story is I had to tell them I was coming to get my vehicle, fixed or not because it is the only one I had, When I get there Ray tells me the work I need done is not covered by a warranty that I called myself to make sure it was covered before I took it there, so good job calling! Then they proceed to charge me 90 bucks for nothing and tells me I need new windshield wipers. I have had work done with Kurt's before and was very happy, will never go back there now. That man sure made me feel like I was back in and age where women were not respected. read more
