I refused the filter replacement service. When I got home I pulled the filters out and they look brand new.

Next, the tech tells me not to ever go to valvoline again because they are known to mess your car up, okay I guess. 20 minutes after leaving the shop I had to go back as my check engine light comes on. I drive back to the shop, they look at it, messes with the air filter and tells me it shouldn't come back on. I then go to work, as I work evenings/nights. Very knowledgeable mechanics and very nice to employers in general, but very expensive place for…read morerepairs. I usually take my car in for oil, filter and tire rotation, $45 or so, not bad. However, any mechanical repair is extremely expensive. I received an estimate to change the sway away bars, rear suspension/rear shock absorbers and change the tripods for close to $1,500. I found a local small shop mechanic that did it for less than $700. Also, on another vehicle, the horn wasn't working, so Oxford gave me an estimate to fix it for $450. I reviewed YouTube videos and was able to fix it myself, since the problem was simply that the ground cable was not making contact. Bought a 2' copper cable, changed the horn and changed the plug, all for less than $60. Yes, $450 vs $60. Again, I don't think they are bad mechanics, but way too pricey. Won't go back.

There was a…read morenumber of things this location did wrong, mainly boiling down to moving too quickly and skipping/missing important steps in the customer service process, but they did work with me on resolving these. They did replace the spark plugs on my car, as they'd replaced them previously and they were under warranty. I did choose to do the ignition coils myself, as I was able to purchase the same OEM parts significantly cheaper (25%) and do the job myself in ten minutes. ORIGINAL: Price gouging and predatory behavior. I've come to Oxford's multiple times before for scheduled maintenance with no issues, but I brought my car (~10yr old Honda, nothing fancy) over after hours urgently, because of an engine misfire and a 'SERVICE IMMEDIATELY' notification. When they opened and checked it in, they sent me an approval form for a $200 diagnostic charge, higher than I've ever had anywhere else, and not waived if you get the repair with them. I called for some clarification, and then a few minutes later found that they had started the diagnostic without getting my approval - apparently Kevin W took my asking a question as implicit approval. Annoying, but I was hoping to go ahead anyway so I let it go. A few hours later, I get another call from Kevin with the results of the diagnostic. I hadn't received an inspection report with details like I usually would have, and he said I needed new spark plugs and ignition coils, quoting me at around $1,100 for this. I can't give the exact value, because I was never sent the estimate, even after I specifically asked for it. I only received the inspection report at that time, but with no estimate or approval request. This is an absolutely absurd cost. I'm by no means a car guy, but this is something I can order all the parts for less than $130, and will only take an hour or so of my time. I have absolutely no idea what the hell they're doing that would make this cost more than $300-$500, at absolute most. Now, if they over-quoted me because they're busy and don't want the work - then just tell me that I'm either going to wait a few days or that I need to take it elsewhere. What this looks like to me is that they tried to take advantage and overcharge someone in a bind, thinking that I'd pay whatever they ask so my car was drivable again. I feel like the lack of a written estimate to look over before sports this. If so, this is predatory behavior from a repair shop, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
