My 2017 Subaru Forester's OEM battery needed a jumpstart at a NJ Turnpike rest stop. When I got home to Silver Spring, MD, I brought the car to a Firestone store nearby at 11500 Georgia Ave. First, they charged $13.49 plus tax to test the battery and tell me it should be replaced. Then they installed their MT35 battery for $194.99 plus tax. The Firestone battery has a 2-year full-replacement warranty. In retrospect, from New Jersey I should have stopped at the Walmart auto center at 6210 Annapolis Road in Landover Hills, MD, and open until 10 PM. There I could have had bought an EverStart MAXX-35N (North) battery, for $98.76 plus tax. Consumer Reports gives this battery a 5-year life expectancy. I'm not sure if there would have ben an installation charge at the Landover Hills Walmart, but the price otherwise is only half of what I paid at Firestone, plus the much longer life suggested by Consumer Reports. read more

I dropped off my car at 9 am yesterday (Saturday) and was told that I'd get a call when it was ready and also to discuss any potential issues. I never received a call and went to get my car at 5:45 pm only to get the run around and waited appx 20 mins b/c they'd lost my ticket/key and no one had any idea what was going on. I had to pay $100 for horrible service and am not wholly convinced anything was done to my car at all, however they did not miss a beat with the charges on the invoice. What a shame. This location WAS my favorite. Too bad Louis wasn't there. He always makes sure I'm taken care of. Avoid this hassle if you can and take your car elsewhere. read more

What a terrible experience!!! My young daughter went in to change her tire. The store looked over her car and told her that there was $1,200 of work to do. They claimed that the breaks were shot. We declined the work. In driving away, the breaks were grinding terribly; there had been no such sounds before. We took the car next door to the BP. They said that Firestone either lost or removed the pad, which is why the brakes were now screeching. The BP mechanic went over the bogus list of suggested repairs and did it all for a couple of hundred. Now I understand why this Firestone has such terrible reviews! read more

I got a flat tire and initially I took it to a local gas station who filled it with air, but wouldn't check for a nail (guy was straight up being lazy and said he couldn't check cause my tire was damaged. What?!) So i then took it to merchants tires (they were the closest at the time) who did an exterior inspection and said they didn't see a nail... weird, but ok. Next morning, tire is flat again! So I know somethings off. I take it to firestone and the guy immediately points out where the nail was! They couldn't take me right away cause they had other people with appointments but said they would fix it if I left my car. About 2 hours later, I get a call and it's good to go! Only cost me $20. I called around to a BUNCH of other places in the area and they all quoted me $30-50. Insane. So glad I came across this place! read more

My husband and I ordered one (1) TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) device and four (4) new tires from Tirerack.com. Tire Rack offers a service where you can ship your items to a local company for installation. I'm accustomed to using Firestone at other Nationwide locations with great success and picked this Firestone McLean location for installation. Via telephone, I scheduled an installation appointment for Friday Jan. 5, 2017 at 8:00AM. Upon arriving, my husband and I spoke with Bill who filled out the intake form. We made very clear we needed the following from this visit: 1) Install four (4) new tires. 2) Replace the malfunctioning rear passenger TPMS device and confirm it is operational. 3) Inflate the front tires to 35 and rear tires to 32 (as displayed on the inside of the driver door). 4) Put one (1) of the best old tires in the trunk. We repeated the above items to Bill four (4) times because he did not take notes. Bill informed us it would be a two (2) hour wait. After said time, we contacted Bill and were informed us the mechanics were just finishing up. After settling the invoice, we got in the car to embark on a short getaway from metro DC. Three (3) out of our four (4) items were not complete: 1) "Replace the malfunctioning rear passenger TPMS device and confirm it is operational." Rear passenger TPMS and vehicle computer registered the tire at 58 pounds. Bill said the computer would take some time to register correctly, but ensured us that the TPMS device was installed. 2)"Inflate the front tires to 35 and rear tires to 32 (as displayed on the inside of the driver door)." Tires were overinflated by as much as 11 pounds! 3) "Put one (1) of the best old tires in the trunk." There was no tire in the trunk. We addressed our concerns with Bill who corrected the tire pressure and found the best tire to put in the trunk. Since we were told the TPMS would take some time to sync with the computer, we went on our way. After two hours of driving, the error message did not go away. We contacted Bill via telephone and scheduled another appointment for today, January 9th, 2018 at 7:00AM. My husband took the car back to Firestone on January 9th, 2018 at 7:00AM. He was informed that the old TPMS was installed and that they never installed the new one we provided. It took them 51 minutes to find it and an additional hour to install it. Upon completion, my husband checked the tire pressure and began his commute to work. Shortly after my husband left, he received a voice mail from Firestone. "Hello, how are you doing sir? This is Henok, calling from, ah, Firestone, uh, on behalf of the Acura. Ah, the technician, ah, he say that he want to make sure that, ah, he got the right torque. And, ah, he want to make sure the that all the lug nuts is tight enough He just wanted to make sure, uh, ah, bring it back he check it for you. Thank you. Bye bye." So now we have to take the vehicle in for a 3rd time to have the lug nuts torqued correctly. Come on Firestone! This is tire installation 101! Leaving lug nuts too loose creates the risk that they'll slip off. But snug them up too tight, they will cause damage to the metal in addition to struggling to get them unstuck the next time around. If you value your time and vehicle, find another vendor. Goodyear is just down the street, maybe they're quality and service is better. Firestone's quality is not what it used to be. read more

Service and staff were courteous and professional from start to finish. I enjoy catching people doing a good job. I had a slow leak in a tire. Stopped by and made an appointment for the next business day. When I arrived, my vehicle was on the rack five minutes later. Five minutes after that, the technician gave me my "souvenir" . . . the screw that had found its way into the tire. A few minutes after that, the tire was repaired and I was on my way. I only come back to these guys since it's so close to my work. I would love to rate them at 5 stars, but over the past five years, they've become a little suspect in my book. Initially, they would do the services I ask them to do with no trouble, like oil changes and rotations. Later down the road, they would recommend me unnecessary services that I know I don't need. They even warned me that if I don't do these services, my car will break down soon. I took my car to another place for a second opinion and they definitely rejected Firestone's claims. Safe to say, my car didn't break down either. From then on, I promised myself never to return. .....And then I came back because I was in dire need of an oil change and inspection. So for convenience sake, I gave these guys another chance. And boy...did I regret it. The services rendered that day were okay, but if this was you...you'd be pissed too. Firestone worker: You know it's important to get your maintenance checked on your vehicle. If your car is over 100k miles, then we should take a look at your belts, most especially your timing belt. Me: OH, my 2003 Honda Civic SI doesn't come with timing belt...it comes with a timing chain. Firestone worker (taken back a little): Look, I've been doing cars for awhile (laughs a bit) Actually, I've worked on A LOT of Hondas and I'm pretty sure they don't have timing chains. Me (pissed): NO, I'm pretty sure that the car I'VE BEEN DRIVING for more than 5 years....HAS A TIMING CHAIN. In fact, my brother who gave this car to me made sure to warn me that guys like you might trick me in getting my 'timing belt' fixed. Look Firestone (and other mechanic places for that matter)...I know I'm a woman. It might look like I don't know diddly squat about cars, which is probably why you pulled that move on me. However, I do know enough about cars to not get royally screwed. If I could rate your services zero stars, I would. Don't even bother going to this place. If you can, go to Japanese Auto Clinic if your vehicle is a Honda. At least those guys won't disrespect you. read more

This review only applies to the McLean location as I have never been to any other Firestone... I have been to this Firestone plenty of times with two different vehicles in the last ten years. However, stopped as soon as my VW Passat was sold. Recently needed to come before a long road trip and my dealership didn't have the time...so it was completely last minute. I cringed. Having my VW serviced here was a complete disaster. Any time a repair or maintenance was completed, it ended up being returned to me with more issues than what I was originally there for. After having brought it there multiple times, I eventually straight up asked them if they actually knew what they were doing. They said they weren't educated with VWs. What?! It was insane. I could go into detail but I've repressed those nightmares. So when I bought my F150, I vowed never to come back and never did for 2 years until about a week ago. I was off on a long road trip and needed a quick oil change. My dealership which is AMAZING didn't have availability the week of so I made a last minute appointment at Firestone. Now I know the ownership had changed in the past few years so I was only slightly hopeful that maybe this would go alright. Nope. Too good to be true. It took a little over an hour which I guess is normal so the timing wasn't an issue. They returned my truck and the dang oil sticker (which really means nothing to me) was incorrectly recorded. I came in with 26,447 miles. They wrote down 24,667 miles and suggested I come back at 27,000. Well because of this dyslexic mistake, I am already at 27,000 miles...But the real deal breaker was when they incorrectly put my undercarriage guard back on. To the point where one screw would pop off while driving and part of the guard would drag on the pavement. I continuously put it back on but could never get it to stay. Finally I went to my dealership and they specifically told me it was incorrectly put back on. Well duh, Firestone. Because what can they actually do right?! I will 150% never be returning. Made an appointment, showed up on time. Upon arrival they ask if I'll be waiting or if I'm dropping off. When I say waiting, they tell me it will take an hour to 1.5 hrs. I go across the street to Starbucks and watch my car sit for over an hour. So I decide to call to check on the car status. I'm immediately put on hold where I wait for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes I hang up and call back, tell them I've been on hold for 10 minutes and then they place me back on hold for 7 more minutes, after which they tell me I'm up next. Just as I decide to take my business elsewhere (after nearly 2 hours), they pull my car into the garage. This is becoming the most expensive oil change ever in terms of my time. I drive a Honda Civic Coupe. I drove over a nail and got flat tire on my front drivers side. I live down the street so I drove on my donut to Firestone Richmond Highway Alexandria, VA, They told me there would be a 4 hour wait. I left the tire that needed to be repaired with a plug for $20 and drove my car 1 mile down the street back home. I waited for 6 hours and finally received a call. That my tire needed more than a $20 plug. I was advised by Peter- who I presume is the manager that the whole inside of my tire was 'ripped to pieces by the rim' and that I would need a whole new tire. Immediately something was fishy to me about that. I asked the price of the new tire and the answer given was $189. Again, I only drive a little 2 door Honda CIvic. Since owning various Honda Civics over the span of 5 years, I have never come across any tire that costs that much. The most expensive tire for my car that I've ever seen anywhere was $144 and the cheapest $90. I immediately decided to go pick up my tire and take it to Mac's Tire over in DC, where you can get a quick used tire for around $70-$80. Prepared to pay for a whole new tire, upon my arrival the gentleman working on my tire told me "There is nothing wrong with this tire, Firestone didn't even take it off the rim, how would they figure its shredded inside? All you will need is a plug young lady $17." I was shocked. I have been driving on my tire 2 days now with no problems. After saving $150 I'm super grateful to Mac's tire and their honesty. Its practices like that, that keep customer loyalty. And for Firestone it is practices like theirs that get them a poor, 1-star yelp review and a potential client who will now never go back. Ladies beware, I hate to even acknowledge that the stereotype of auto shops trying to trick women out of money even exist but if you go to this Firestone at least challenge what they initially tell you, or my advice, just don't go at all. Understandably, I was told by Bill an inspection would take a couple hours on the last day of the month. Had lunch nearby, taking my time and returned to the location about 90 minutes later. Car was still in same spot outside. Sat in the waiting room for another 90 minutes, before the service manager drove the car around to the back garage bay. After waiting another 15minutes, Bill asked me what car I was waiting for. Told him which one and he said he would check with his service manager. Bill came back in and said there were some bulbs out, but he'd have the service manager come in and go over it since he didn't have the paperwork. Service manager comes in, says the inspection failed and that I would need to replace tie rods and an engine mount. He asked me if I was okay going ahead with the repairs. With the mixed messaging, I immediately said no, asked that he just provide the rejection sticker. Explained I am getting rid of the car soon. Waited an additional 15 minutes for the paperwork. Paid the inspection fee and was given the estimate for repair at just under $1000. I then asked for the inspector's licensing info and was provided with a separate copy of the failure report with that info. After reading it, I have doubts that the person who is listed on the report actually performed the inspection. In addition, while waiting there in the lobby, I was witness to several concerning interactions amongst staff, and between staff and customers. read more

I showed up at Firestone not expecting them to be able to take care of me but was pleasantly surprised. He brought his car in for tire rotation and the service guy took the car for a four mile joy ride, and was seen by my brother speeding at 50 mph through a red light. These guys are sneaky and amateur. They tend to charge too much for basic repairs and quite often do not use high-quality parts. Both the radiator and oil caps were replaced on my car, both failed within weeks; they could not keep proper pressure. They incorrectly installed a spring and refused a refund. I had gone in to the store a few times knowing what the problem was; these guys ALWAYS tried to add-on unnecessary repairs. I gave them a few chances, a few too many. DO NOT go to this Firestone or even make an appointment unless you want to wait at least a couple of hours. Today, I made an appointment for a simple brake check, alignment and tire rotation. Was told it would take about 1.5 to 2 hours (despite the fact that when I made the appointment the guy said it would take about an hour), so I decided to walk and have lunch around the corner while I waited. One hour and forty minutes later and still no word on my car so I head back to Firestone. I ask the guy at the front desk how my car is coming along, he goes to check, and then returns to tell me that they just moved it in and are about to get started. Are you kidding me? ONE HOUR AND FORTY MINUTES later and they have not even looked at my car despite the fact that I made an appointment and arrived promptly at that time. I have never had such poor service and, of course, no one wanted to take any accountability for the mistake. Needless to say, I left immediately and will NEVER return to this Firestone. read more

He was great. He treated me as a valued customer from the start and my experience was painless. My car has several minor issues. He explained them all and we proceeded with the most pressing. They did great work at a very reasonable cost. I got out of there paying less than the original estimate. That has NEVER happened to me before! I went to change my car oil and filter on Sep 21, 2017 and I asked for price quote to change my car four tires, they quoted me $850 to install four tires, after I waited two days to get the tires I was surprised that they changed the price $300 more. I asked Luis the tire manager to call and check with his Colleague about the original price he refused and his answer was "I don't have his number " . These guys are crooks. Tried to charge me $1,200 for a busted fuel pump. I got my fuel pump replaced 6 months ago so I didn't believe that would be the problem. When I started questioning it the guy said "it's ok we don't need your business". I later took my car into Cherrydale Motors, and had them check out the car. They found the actual problem (a gasket) and are fixing it for $450. I asked them to look at the fuel pump because Firestone said that was the issue, and they laughed and said they were trying to rob me. They said the fuel pump is brand new and it was obvious it was oil leaking, not fuel. Just don't go to this place. They almost took $1,200 from me for something that wasn't even the issue! read more

They charged 2 to 3 times for parts that I could comparison shop online. Their warranty on engine mounts and bushings is 12 months or 12,000 miles whichever comes sooner. The engine mounts they installed in May 2016 failed a state inspection in July 2017, so I wasted several hundred dollars on their work and had to spend several hundred more getting new ones. Very happy with our experience. We had a tire blow out (badly) on I-495 and had to have the Chevy Tahoe flat-bedded to the shop without notice, on a Saturday. Within two hours we had the tire replaced (all four of them were going to have to be replaced shortly so asked for all four to be done), completed an oil change, and had an alignment done. So after in McLean for a while (10+ years), I settle on this place for my car maintenance/repair. Reason being they are very honest. They might not be the best mechanics; I think they made some issues for my Volvo repair; but they don't try to persuade me to fix cars that are not worth fixing. They failed a safety inspection for my Toyota, I wasn't too sure about it so I took to another place for a 2nd opinion - they were right there was issues that needed to be fixed. Anyway, these days it's hard to find honest shops in Mclean. Every other shop I went to, Goodyear, Sunoco, all wanted to make extra money out of me. This shop is honest and never pushy. Just like what they hang on the wall - they honor honesty the most. Oh for car inspection, the guy at Sunoco near Safeway still is the best; hopefully he won't leave there. read more

Bunni and Nicholai took care of business, repaired the damage, and I was on my way home within 20 minutes. I should note that it's worth buying the road hazard insurance with the tires. All I can tell you is stay away or definitely always get a second opinion. I went in after an accident to see about an alignment because the tire got damaged. At first they said they could fix it for $1600 after 45 minutes of being with my car. Then I told them I was going through insurance, left to get a loaner car before they closed and came back an hour or so later. The manager wanted to take a look to make sure they covered everything. Spent 5-10 minutes looking at the car and 50 minutes in the back "pricing everything up", as explained the front end guy. He came back with $8400 worth of damage. And with a straight face thanked me for being a nurse during the coronavirus pandemic, he said his sister was a nurse and he appreciated me, which is why he was looking out for my safety with 8400$. It all had to be done, but he could offer me a 20% first responder coupon as a thank you. Needless to say I had my car sent somewhere else. They looked over the estimate Firestone gave me and said that they were essentially replacing my whole suspension systems, and performing any service they could think of including parts that were on the other side of the vehicle with no possible way of being damaged. I just got my bill from the other shop. My bill came in at $1640. I can't believe a group of people could try to take advantage of me with a straight face and a smile. Just stay away if you can. This wasn't a little upsale this was, in the words of the mechanic who looked at their estimate, this was them trying to rob me! It's a shame you can't press charges against people like this! read more

Unfortunately I have to give this business a one star rating because they did not connect the brake line after a brake job. I drove about 5 minutes before all the brake fluid drained out and I had no brakes to stop! Thankfully I was driving slow and was able to come to a complete stop in a nearby parking lot.
