Worst experience with car service I have ever had. I had brake issues (associated with my ABS) and the manager claimed it was my rear brake and rotors. After the problem did not resolve 1 month later I brought it back to be looked at and the manager claimed I needed to re-replace the rear brake pads and rotors! He tried to fix the problem the same way twice when clearly there were other issues! After I brought the car back the second time, the manager tried to validate his claims for the brake pad/rotor replacement (which I am nearly positive did not need replacement since they had been replaced at the dealership 1 year prior). He explained that my brake pads needed to be placed because there was bird poop on them! I know I am not a mechanic, but I am nearly positive that dirt on a brake pad would not cause the brake pad to stop functioning. Stay far away from this place! Additionally the manager is extremely condescending to clients and tried to force me into spending money the same day. This whole trip cost me $450 that did not need to be spent. read more

Really accommodating experience. Hospitable from the moment I walked in the door. I was helped by a man named Steve England, he called around to get the cheapest price possible for the parts that I needed. He also applied as many coupons to the order as he could find. The waiting area is comfortable with complimentary coffee. 7 am, drive to work, snowy morning. I hit a pothole and I see that I won't make it: front tire is down. I manage to drive by Commonwealth and stop around 7:30am at Firestone which is open. I meet the store manager Jay Hassett. The technician checks the tire, a near new Michelin and it is reported dead. First the manager tells me that he only has Firestone and that I should buy 2 tires to have a safe powertrain... But the other Michelin is still near new and I insist they procure the right tire (a popular model, pilot). He makes a phone call and tells me that he should get the tire in the afternoon with the normal delivery. In the evening I call, the tire didn't arrive but the sales person on the phone says they don't know where my tire was ordered from and they need to track the store manager to know. I call the next morning around noon. The tire didn't arrive and the sales person says it was not ordered from the usual supplier and they don't know where to ask. Jay Hassett (the boss) still hasn't followed up on his project. I call again later afternoon (2 full business days after I drop my car) with the same answer - and they didn't get info from the boss and he left the store already and his employees don't know how to contact him (their boss) when needed... I rushed to the store where I found a young sales guy who took gracefully the flack for his boss, I got the spare tire mounted and I took my car to Sullivan Tires next door who said they can get the tire same day, with a smile. The car is there and they'll get my business. Up to you to draw your conclusions to this story but when the boss is the one messing up his company it should tell a lot about the potential failures this can generate. read more

I went here to get a simple oil change and instead got completely ignored and went to their competitor instead. I am a woman with short hair and a lot of piercings and tattoos, and a total of 3 employees at this location either completely ignored me or rudely told me they'd be with me shortly - I waited about 10 minutes of this "shortly" while two employees helped another customer before walking out. So, if you don't like to get discriminated against based on your appearance, go to Sullivan next door instead. read more

I took my 2001 Jeep Wrangler in for service two days ago. It had only 10,000 or so miles on it, but was due for a complete fluid replacement, etc. The auto transmission, front and rear differentials had to have fluid replacement, plus oil change. I told them to check the condition of the brake fluid, the coolant, AC, drive belt, sparks -- everything. I gave them carte blanche to do what was necessary, and then went to a movie downtown. When I returned they had replaced the transmission and differential fluid and changed the oil, but told me the coolant, brake fluid and all the other items had tested OK and did not need work. They could have easily have done everything and charged me accordingly, but they didn't. I have a sense that if I had gone to a regular Chrysler dealers they would have routinely done everything (even if not needed) and charged me at least 50% more than Firestone. The Service Manager (calvin) and the mechanic (Brian Shea) were great. read more

I just did my car maintenance in Firestone on Commonwealth Ave because the engine maintenance indicator was on. I went to Firestone last week, and I was given a long list for what I should do for my car. Frankly I was not familiar with most of the items on the list, but I was told that none from it were not essential. I paid more that 800$ for the list. I took my car, and then after two days, the engine maintenance indicator was on again. So I drove my car to Firestone. One staff member there told me that he could reset button and then should be OK. Yes that was OK for two days. The engine maintenance indicator was on again. So I drove my car to there again. This time one guy told me that you should do the engine diagnosis which you did not do for the first time. I was given the engine diagnosis free (Thank you, Firestone!) but I was charged 420$ for the engine maintenance. I just feel that the Firestone there is dishonest and unprofessional. They intend to charge you as much as they can. The way they do works well for someone like me who are not familiar with cars, and they will continue to do so. I do not think the Firestone there has good hands. Last winter one of my car windows was broken, I did go there twice to get it repaired. For the first it was repaired but only for several days. I like the team at this firestone; I think every mechanic or repair services shop will give you a long list of things you need to fix, so I think it is your job (as the owner) to do a little more due diligence, and ask the right questions to know what is imperative to fix or work on. I have dealt with Michael (Service Manager) and Steve (Tire Manager) the most, so I always call and quite frankly do not want to speak to anyone else, because I feel like they have a good handle on my car. I also think it is important to develop a relationship with whoever your working with because that is when they will tell you what the "imperative" upgrades to your car are. With regards to time, they are a busy location, so you need to ask them how long it will take. They have always been under their estimated time of completion with the jobs I have requested, so I have no complaints here. The one thing I think that they can improve upon is negligence, but overall I think they are an awesome team for such a busy location, and I would give their customer service a 5-star! read more

I'll start off by saying that I don't usually write reviews unless it is exceptionally good service, or exceptionally bad service. Firestone in Allston has provided enough exceptionally bad service that I feel the need to comment. The first time I brought my vehicle here was for a simple visual inspection. All seemed well, until my vehicle was left on the lift for about 1.5 hours... Unattended. I brought this to the employees' attention multiple times, but only received the response "it will be down soon." A simple visual inspection ended up taking about 2.5 hours, and 1.5 hours were spent with the car on the lift, no tires , and no mechanic touching it. Apparently the mechanics had found other work to be done on other cars, yet kept me waiting in the waiting room while they did so. The next occasion I brought my car in, it was experiencing a drooping gas pedal with bad acceleration. As I though this was a serious issue, I brought it back to Firestone since it was local and convenient. I scheduled an appointment about 6 hours in advance. I brought it in and turned over the keys to address the issue. I asked up front how much time it would take, and they said it would be max 45 mins. I sat in the waiting room and after 1 hour I went to see the status. I was informed the car had not been touched and was still sitting exactly where I had parked it. When I told the employee that this was a time sensitive issue and I needed to leave soon, he seemed shocked and asked me why I couldn't wait around longer until they had time to see it. I proceeded to take me keys back and find a different place of business to take my car. Overall, Firestons in Allston is a miserable experience. If you take your car here, be prepared to wait a significant amount of time longer than they tell you, unattentive employees, and an overall uncaring environment. read more

My previous car spent a lot of time here. Not that it needed to, really. It had 90,000 miles, could have gone for a lot longer. But then Firestone got to it, just for some preventative work. Deep inside of it. Who knows what they were doing... but this preventative work turned quickly into dear-god-the-car-is-dying work... and then thousands of dollars later, the car's no longer doing so well, brakes are fried, and I get a quote to do something which exceeds the value of the car by a thousand dollars. Stay Away from this Commonwealth Ave Complete Fraud Firestone I went there for Brake Fluid change last Saturday. It took only 20 mins for them to check my car and handed me a $800 bill for brake pad replace "recommendations". However, I have my brake pad changed from dealership last year and my mileage for this year is under 5,000. There is no way I should get pad replace so I told the guys at the front desk about it, he came back and said " Our mechanic says that your pads are fine. Don't worry about it." I was realize that he wanna take advantage of me since I am women who seemed like not knowledgeable about the vehicle at all. I just got brake fluid changed that day. However, I felt my car was shaking next day and came back to them four days later when I found my car was shaking and rattling so bad. Again, I was handed a $1,600 "recommendations" of replacing four new tires and the manager made up that my tires are so bad which make my car shaking. I went out that place and felt like what a joke place this is. After a tough morning, I went to another repair store which my co-worker recommend to me where she usually went to. The mechanic told me there are something wrong with my ignition coils after he took the car out for a test drive. He also mentioned that my tires are in good shape and it won't even bother me to think about it anymore. After all I have been experienced today, Firestone on Commonwealth Ave makes me sick and that place is a joke. Stay Away....if you don't want to get ripped off. I had read prior reviews of this place so I knew not to expect a straightforward experience, but they had a tire in stock to sell me for $40 less than the next guy. After taking my info and declining to give my email address, I waited for the tire, told it would be 30-40 minutes. While I waited I saw a pair of customers, mother and son, arguing angrily with a manager who initially denied that it was Firestone who had stripped the threads on their wheel bolts, using an air gun on a prior visit. Fifty minutes passed and I looked out in the lot, my car appearing finished, checking that the tire was the right size and that the bolts were not stripped. I asked and the cashier went through a bit to be able to process me. Many times I turned down what I saw as suggestively sold items (e.g. would I like a free wheel alignment inspection? would I like a listing of the suggestions the repairman gave?), finally paying $70 for the tire. Overall, I did save $40 on the tire and they did a good job, but I could imagine here I could have wound up being offered service on a lot of unnecessary things, had I not turned them down preemptively. EDIT: I returned to my car tonight after parking it to discover that the (pop-up) headlight was pointed at a jarring angle and the hood had never been closed. The problem was they had taken the hood prop stick and tucked it back behind the headlight, instead of its proper holder. I took the stick out and put it back proper and no harm was done, the headlight retracted properly. Now, this is an innocent mistake, as this is a unusual design in any car that isn't 20+ years old. Still, it gives me pause since (1) they were changing the tire and had no reason whatsoever to open the hood of my car, (2) must have KNOWN that headlight was not properly retracted and, KNOWINGLY, returned the car to me without saying anything, nervously hoping I wouldn't notice, and (3) returned a car without latching the hood properly. If the arguing couple above's statements were any indication, it seems this place routinely damages cars through negligence and then evades responsibility. I should have just had them mount the tire on the rim and changed the wheel myself. read more

I took my car there last year. They told me that my car's ball joint lose, you can't drive over than 30 miles an hour and I've to fix it asap. And they said I've to pay over than a 1000$ to fix it. But they didn't know that i've mechanic skills, and i can see it was a sway bar link. Got a coupon in the mail so I decided to bring my Honda in for new front brakes and an oil change. The oil change was okay, but you can't trust them for honest diagnoses and fair pricing. In addition to the oil change, I told them I wanted new brake pads for my front tires (a big mistake), and the guy told me they could just do a check to make sure that I really need it, which would be free if I do replace the brake pads. The guy then talks me into signing up for a Firestone card, which would give me discounts on oil changes and something like 10% off services. Okay, I said, sign me up. After a while, I got a call, and another guy took me to the car to show me what they found (a plus). However, they go on to try to convince me that I need to replace the entire rotor. The estimate was over $600. I used to change my own brakes (but no longer have access to a garage) and they looked fine to me. Herb Chambers concurs later. In any case, I ended up having to go through the service order write-up line-by-line with the guy. You literally have to point it out line-by-line to make them explain to you what they want to do. They wanted the rotor replacement, which I refused. They wanted to clean some brake components (I forgot which ones now), which I also had to refuse multiple times. I had to make them remove 3-4 items from the invoice and tell them to just replace the pads. In the end, they still charged me extra for the pads (apparently the price for "most cars" does not include Honda Accords). I could only imagine what this Firestone is gouging from people who place their trust in them. To add icing to the cake, they wouldn't give me the service discount with the Firestone card that the original guy promised (he's no longer around at this time). They didn't want to honor the coupon I brought in and gave to the first guy (well, at first they couldn't find it for a while), until after some tough arguing. On top of that, the signs in the store about the brake service advertises how they top off your brake fluids, etc., but they wouldn't do it for free. To wrap up this wonderful experience, as I drive out of their parking lot, I noticed a sign at the auto service shop right across the street advertising a brake service for $20-30 less. F* me. So don't come here. If you have lots of money to throw around, go buy an iPhone or a new TV. You can do a lot better. This all brings up another point. If you have a Honda, you should replace your brake pads with only genuine Honda brakes. When I used to do it myself, I learned after multiple tries that your brakes will tend to squeal excessively when you use other aftermarket brakes. But if you use Honda brakes, then you'll be fine. I thought maybe since it's a national chain, they may have a special line of brake pads not available at auto parts stores. They don't. read more

I had my car towed to Firestone and they told me it was just the issue with the battery. I also paid them a fee to do the diagnostic test and they said that my car was fine. I picked the car up and my car broke down within a hour after picking the car up. They robbed me of my money. I received bad service. I should either get a refund or they need to fix my car the correct way for free. read more

This store is absolutely horrible and super shady. I took my car in to check a slow leak on a tire, they said they couldn't fix it and told me to replace all 4 tires and asked for $1300 of additional repairs. I took my car to another shop where they found the nail in the tire and charged me 10 bucks and said my tires were good for another couple of years. $10 vs $1800? I doubt this Firestone even looked at my tires before suggesting I replace them all... never go there (i never write reviews, but i was so compelled to write this one to warn others) read more

I take my and my wife's car here often for service and tires (and wouldn't even consider anywhere else). Every time I come in I am met with pleasant and helpful employees who answer any questions I have. Even when they are over crowded then find a way to squeeze me in. You will not find this level of service anywhere else in the area (trust me). They have much better prices then my dealer and much better service then all the other places in Boston. Our friends at Firestone Boston tried to scam me - very disappointing and infuriating. I took my car in for a standard oil change and was pleased to hear they looked at my brakes as a courtesy. I was told that my rotors, brake pads needed to be replaced & the calipers cleaned and adjusted - $450 estimate for all of this, at only 30,000 miles. I was suspicious, so took to another place for a second evaluation - rotors and pads just needed a quick clean-up - $80. Will never go back, recommend at least a second opinion if they do something similar to you. read more

Not the best customer service in the world. We made an appointment online. When we showed up for the appointment, we were told, "Our online system doesn't work. You should've called. We can probably squeeze you in but it'll be a 2 hour wait." I didn't have an issue with waiting, but just the way the guy said it was rude and uncalled for. First of all, how am I supposed to know your online system doesn't work. And if it is broken, maybe you should find a way to disable online reservations until you get it fixed. And second, maybe you should accept responsibility for the broken system and not blame your customers. I made the appointment and got a confirmation email. How is it my fault? I've been to quite a few Firestone's all over the country and this was by far my worst experience and definitely will not come back to this location. Also, we were waiting in the lobby for the car to be done and it was apparently finished for like 30 minutes and no one told us. We finally noticed it wasn't in the bay anymore so we asked and the same rude guy from before was all like, "Oh, that's been finished for a while but I didn't have time to call you." That guy probably shouldn't be working in front of customers. If he's a good mechanic, just let him work on the cars but get someone new to interact with the customers. read more

I called in one weekday afternoon to get my oil changed, and they took my car in 20 minutes later. I thought the staff were all very friendly and helpful, both in person and on the phone. They changed my oil, fixed my windshield wiper nozzles for free (without my mentioning it!) and let me know I might need to replace two of my tires within the next few months. My 2009 Volvo S60 reached over 136k mi and began to show it when driving at highway speeds. It felt like an amusement park thrill ride that I just wanted to stop get off. I brought it in (as I always do) to Kyle, Andre and the Team Firestone. They had the problem diagnosed quickly, had the parts in hand and work completed in much less time than I expected. I went to Firestone to have an engine problem checked out on my 2006 Chevy Trailblazer. The Engine would die out shortly after start-up and then run fine afterwards. I went in suspecting that I needed a throttle body cleaning but the technician informed me I needed a new fuel pump and ignition coils. A job after parts and labor totaling $3,500. Ironically enough I went to the dealer and their price was $900 less. Nevertheless the dealer also informed by that there was nothing wrong with my ignition coils or fuel pump. A quick throttle body cleaning and the problem went away. Essentially I wasted $100 at these guys and wouldn't even trust them for an oil change. read more

I had an extremely poor experience at FIrestone when I took my car to deal with a tire issue. The service in changing the tires themselves was fine... it was over the holiday and I was unable to pick it up immediately. They were able to hold on to my car for longer than otherwise normal. My problem began when I went to pick up the car. After paying for the service and going outside to get my car, I saw that there was damage to the right rear fender and a large linear gash in the panel above it as well as a couple of indentations. I went and spoke to the store manager, Kyle Duggan. Mr. Duggan came outside and immediately denied that the dent was caused by anyone or anything happening at Firestone. I asked him how he could know that, and he simply said that he would have heard about it if something had happened to a car under care of his operation. I assured him that the car had no such damage when it was brought in. He went inside and spoke to the mechanic. He came back and admitted that no one had noticed the damage until I noticed it, but since the mechanic (and no one else) reported having done the damage, he knows that it could not have been their fault. He also told me that there would be no point in filing a claim because I would not be able to prove that he or his employees did it. I told him that I wanted to file a claim anyway. I told him that it did not make any sense for a car to have that extent of damage on arrival without anyone having noticed it or documented it. He then went inside and found the paperwork and noted that someone had checked the "scratches and dents" box on the initial paperwork. I replied that any 10 year old car will have some dings (and mine does), but the damage to the car is significantly more than minor scratches. He said there was nothing he could do. I again told Mr. Duggan that I wanted to file a claim. He was clearly frustrated by my persistence. He went onto his computer and told me that he's taking care of it and he'd let me know the outcome. He waved as if to say goodbye. I asked for paperwork for proof that he had initiated a claim. he said that there was no paperwork; it's all done on computer. I asked him to show me on his computer screen. At this point he admitted that he hadn't started any claim and didn't know how to do so. He made some phone calls to seek advice from other members of the company on how to initiate a claim. I stayed while he made the phone call, and I heard him describe the issue and I heard him tell the person on the other end that he couldn't definitively say that the damage had NOT happened at Firestone, but couldn't confirm that it HAD happened. He got off the phone and was (finally) pleasant toward me, noting that he had acknowledged the possibility in my presence that the problem had occurred at Firestone. He then said that even if none of his employees had caused the damage, it's possible that someone else (e.g. another customer) had hit in the parking lot. (They routinely parked the car in the lot during the daytime.) He said he wanted to leave things on good terms and wanted to "start the new year off right." He gave me the toll free number for the claims department as well as a claim number.He noted that he could have easily taken the car to get it fixed "off the books" but wanted to "do it right." Imagine my surprise when I was contacted by the FIrestone claims department and was told that Mr. Duggan has completely denied any possible responsibility for the claim. He now claims to have seen rust at the sites of damage (there is none), and offered this as proof that the damage was old. I don't know what's worse--having Firestone damage my car or having the store manager treat me with such duplicity. Mr. Duggan has been evasive and disingenuous throughout the process. He has offered all of the following excuses and statements: 1) It's not possible for damage to have occurred without someone telling him about it. (Even though he later acknowledged this very possibility.) 2) No one had noticed the damage until I did, but then again a simple "scratches and dents" checkbox proved that they had duly noted the damage when they received the car. 3) There is no point in filing a claim because I couldn't prove anything. 4) He had filed a claim electronically and would let me know the outcome, even though he admitted after I pressed him that he hadn't filed one and had to contact people to figure out how. 5) Acknowledged in my presence over the phone that it's possible the damage occurred on his watch, but then outright denied it later. 6) He noticed rust at the damaged sites; there is no rust. Even if you think that the Firestone mechanics can do good work, why would you entrust your vehicle to someone who is willing to do anything to absolve himself of responsibility for damage to your vehicle, including making statements that are demonstrably false and and/or inconsistent? read more

I was very impressed with the service and honesty at this Firestone. I came in for AC recharge and they found that my AC had a more serious problem (I was not surprised, the AC had never been serviced before). It did take a long time for them to fix the AC, but the AC works great now, and they gave me a tremendous deal. I was afraid going in that any service station might try to rack up the charges for labor, etc, but I was surprised when they did not and actually gave me a great deal. I would recommend asking for Willie, the service manager, or Scott, the business manager. read more

Horrible service. I had an 11:00 appointment and dripped the car off at 10:45. Had squeaky breaks. I go see Inception ( great movie) to kill some time. 3 hours later I get a call from them asking where my wheel lock is; they hadn't even started. It is now 4 hrs and 15 mins after i left car, and I am still here waiting for them to replace the wheels and take car on test drive. I would try any other location first, unless you want them to kill your afternoon. read more

Service advisor Pierre helped me select the right tires for my needs and budget. The tires were installed at the appointed time at the exact price quoted which was a substantial discount over list. They inspected the truck for additional issues and delivered the prognosis in a non hard sell manner. I would trust this Firestone location with my truck any day. read more

Please never go to firestone, do yourself a favor. The AC on my car was not working, so I had my car checked there. After a day, they gave me a phone call, said that I need to change the fan in the front of my car and something else (I was not quite understand). I agreed. After three day, I paid 900 dollars for that fan module and got my car back. When I sat on my car and opened the AC, I found the AC was still not working! I was so furious and went to their manager. The manager totally denied their responsibility and asked me to leave the car their again. I had no choice but leave the car. Two days later, they told me that they changed a new compressor for my car. So I went there and paid another 750 dollars for that. I checked the AC again this time, it is finally working. Then I open the front hood and found that everything is so messed up. The engine cover was cracked, the air hose is twisted and even has not screws on it! What was worse, the plastic connection was broken too! The manager asked a "30 years experience" Machinist to fix this. The big dark guy took 30 minutes to find the right place to put the screw on. In a conclusion, it costs me 1700 dollars to fix a AC problem, and their refused to give the old replaced parts. And my engine cover and air hose connection was cracked which I need spend anther 300 dollars to replace them. read more

COMPLETE FRAUD! DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! I tried it because I was unhappy with the local mechanics and I was completely wrong. I went for an oil change, sticker and had them check an issue with my right front brakes. Took them 5 hours before they even took the car out for a test drive on the brakes and 10 minutes later they decided I needed both calipers replaced, my steering column, battery etc.... I had the entire frame and everything attached to it replaced by Toyota on a recall months earlier, NO WAY THEY COULD HAVE DIAGNOSED WHAT THEY DID. But it actually gets worse,...I told them do the sticker and oil change and nothing else. When I got the car back it was shaking and rattling...called them immediately and talked to the GM who acted completely clueless and tried to explain that during their diagnosis (sabotage) things may have gotten worse. Here is the worst part,...when I dropped it off I actually got a legitimate mechanic who knew what was likely wrong, understood it was a minor adjustment and knew that he might actually get a new client with honest service,...but once the fraud GM made up all these other issues and I called them on the BS this mechanic could not even look me in the eye when I came in. I had a case of car vandalism where all the 4 tires were damaged. I spoke to these guys about getting 4 new tires and the guy taking the phone calls told me a final price inclusive of everything and we scheduled an appointment. He told me I will be taken care of at the scheduled hour. I got my car towed there and after reaching there he said that quoted price was before the taxes. That's clearly different from what he told initially but still not too bad until he said I will have to wait atleast a couple of hours as they had other cars to work on. I chose firestone over another workshop thinking Firestone is a good brand and that these guys deliver but it's quite the opposite. I had no option at that point but to wait. After almost three hours into it, the workman came to tell me when they were removing a tire, one of the screws had been put on incorrectly from before and that it got ripped off when they were trying to unscrew it and that I will have to pay money to replace it otherwise I can't drive my car. Guess how much they charged for it - $70!!!, just for a simple screw. It was their mistake with the way they removed it and they ripped me off. Bottomline, they made false claims to get the business and acted unfairly and unethically and took complete advantage of me when I was in a bad situation.
