My favorite sandwich here is the New York Steamer on white (without the Italian dressing). It is a hot sub with corned beef, pastrami, melted provolone, mustard and mayo. I got the combo because they have my favorite soda (Diet Dr Pepper) and their chip bags are the larger size (not the tiny little ones some places serve). My husband loves the turkey, bacon ranch. Went to the Firehouse Subs off 1604 San Antonio (NorthWood), I admit upon finding out they no longer offer any type Vet Discount I was disappointed however we ordered two six inch (Non_speciality) subs, no drinks or chips, and was shocked when was told 21 Dollars, (two small subs), Upon entering their were two customers seated at one table, after paying my wife and I went to set down went to four different tables all were dirty, their was a employee setting at a table in the corner on the cell phone, but not cleaning, we cleaned a table and set down the entire time we were their not once did anyone do any cleaning . I love firehouse! I come here often because my boys love getting the fire hat with their kid's meal. I'm only giving 4 stars because there has been times I've ordered their grilled cheese sandwiches and the bread is weird or not even toasted at all. No heads up given that they're out of the normal bread they use to make the sandwiches and when I get home and the boys open their food, they're having a 30 minute temper tantrum because their sandwich doesn't look how it's supposed to look. There has been times when I've ordered the turkey bacon ranch sandwich and by the time I'm home, part of the sandwich is soggy (I don't live far). I've started getting no tomatoes because I realized that was the culprit in the sogginess, not the employees. I've also used them a few times for catering platters for birthday parties. Overall, the food is good and the employees are always nice. We used Firehouse Subs in New Braunfels in short notice because of a tragic accident happened to my father in law who was looking so forward to serving spaghetti. RIP Mr Waffle. ... my fiancée calls Firehouse Subs of New Braunfels. She explains her situation. They offer her a discount. They take our order so eagerly and politely. Day of the shower my fiancé's friend picks up our food. She comes back with teas, lemonade, cups, a variety of chips, cookies, and neatly wrapped and boxed sandwiches of three different types. This was my first time ever having Firehouse Subs. I had a turkey sandwich with Duke's mayo with kettled cooked chips! It was delicious and hit the spot!!! This is handsdown the best firehouse subs ive ever been to. This is one of my favorite places to eat but ive had issues with other places. This location was fast and efficient and the hospitality I received was genuine! Thats something you cant find at other locations. My sandwich was made with care and not just tossed together in a box. I was able to just pick it up and eat. Thank you manager man for your kindness! You really made my day. Also the guy who made my sandwich was nice and he really loves working for this location! Keep up the good work. Ps for anyone that was a recommendation for food. Today I went to Fire House with a couple of work friends. Right before we got there, a very old lady with her walker was entering the store. Trying to be polite, we waited for her to slowly go to the cash register. Then she ordered takeout for herself and her husband. It was a SLOW order. At first I was very impatient as is my typical manner. She didn't understand the options and didn't appear to have ever been to a FH before. I couldn't believe I didn't slip in before her. Kicking myself, I kept going over and over the menu trying to spend the time. Then I noticed the cashier. The guy was a total seasoned pro. He went thru that typical fast order taking routine. But with her, it was very evident that he was slowing down and explaining the options as he went. Not only was he trying to tone it down, tune it in, but he did it in what was obviously compassionate and patient manner. And with good humor! I started to get more and more impressed with the way that he was handling the situation. The line behind us started stacking up and he totally focused on his customer at hand as if she were the center of the world and he was there to help her. A guy that seemed to be the manager of the shift or the in-charge guy checked in on them and could obviously see that it was being handled, but slower than usual. So, he just calmly took my order and the next guy who was in line behind me and started preparing things while the cashier continued to provide exceptional service. Then when I came up to order, the cashier already knew that his team was getting ahead of things to make sure the line turbo-charged after the delay. The super hero at the cash register did an fantastic job. His name tag said "Superman" and he really was. To the leadership who hires the right talent and motivates them well and keeps a well-run store, you too are exceptional. Their a little pricey compared to others around but they make a far superior sandwich to anything else you're going to find in NB. My personal favorite and go to sandwiches the steak and cheese but I also like their turkey bacon ranch and the engineer, honestly i have never really found one I didn't like but those are my favorites. My experiences with the NB location have been for the most part great, however I will say that some of their employees are subpar. On a few occasions when making semi-complicated orders i.e. changing toppings or making substitutions was too much for the cashier to handle and the manager had to step in which tells me that their employees aren't getting proper training before being thrown into the mix of things. In one situation we were trying to use our rewards points somehow the cashier messed up and used are points that were posted go towards a free sub but charged us for it anyway when we confronted her about the mixup she was not helpful at all and said there was nothing she could do about it and that we had to contact customer support. In other words we saved up our rewards points for a free sandwich and paid for it anyways "not happy about that as you can tell". With my insatiable lust for the griping out-of-the-way would I recommend stopping by firehouse subs, yes, yes I would. Sometimes one must tolerate lackluster employees in the pursuit of the delicious sandwiches. We stopped here on the way home for a quick bite and the staff are very friendly. The restaurant is very clean and the wait was minimal. They make the subs to order so everything fresh. We waited a few short minutes for our food. I got the engineer sub which was very good! They have a soda machine with a very large selection of drinks and I got the chocolate chip cookie also good. I'm retired and I woke up mid-morning after dreaming of eating a good deli sandwich (absolutely true). I'm fairly new to New Braunfels, so I went online and did a search for deli restaurants. My first choice was Jersey Mike's. In my opinion, they make the tastiest and most consistently good sandwiches. But unfortunately, The only NB location is on the other side of the loop from me and I didn't feel like making that drive. The closest deli I could find to me was Firehouse Subs. I created an online account, and built the closest sandwich I could to my favorite Club Sub. No problem. Easy peasy. I drove the mile and a half to Firehouse Subs and my sandwich was waiting ready to go. No problem. I really, really wanted to like this sub and swear that I would never make the drive to the other side of the loop to Jersey Mike's. I wanted to, but I was sooo disappointed. Everything I ordered was there in the sandwich. Turkey, ham, bacon, provolone, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and oil & vinegar. The only thing that was missing was flavor. I am sad and sorry, not to mention dissatisfied. My wake up craving is still there, even though my stomach is full. I really did try. But I guess if I go up from the south end of the loop, then Jersey Mike's isn't too far to drive for a better sandwich. What a bummer... read more

We like Firehouse! The sandwiches are good and you can expect the same thing at just about every location. They steam the meat which brings out a added flavor. The staff is helpful and friendly, giving you a big ol' "welcome to firehouse!" when you walk in the door. I've been here twice in the past week and have been impressed. The space is clean and the staff very attentive. I think in the time I was there I was asked if I could be helped 3 or 4 times. I was just waiting on my food, but it was refreshing to know that they were concerned about their clientele. The sandwiches were absolutely delicious and the staff made sure to ask every question necessary to know that when I left I had everything I needed. I got both orders to go and there is nothing more frustrating than getting to your destination only to learn that something was left out. Their staff was wonderful and one even asked if they could help me to my car because I had such a large order. I would suggest calling in if you are getting your food to go, as they are great and have it ready by the time you arrive. I would also highly suggest the Italian Sub - seriously one of the best sandwiches I have ever had.
