    Firehouse Steak & Cheese
    Joyce C.

This was my first visit to Firehouse Subs and I hate to say that I likely will not return. I usually get my subs from Mikes across the street, but wanted a "HOT" steak and cheese so I went to Firehouse. I ordered on-line and my pickup was to be 1:20. I arrived at 1:18. My subs were ready and I drove the 3 minutes to my home. When I arrived home, I dug right into my sandwich and found that my "HOT" steak and cheese was cold! The temperature was not like it cooled down (which it should not have in the short amount of time from store to home), but like it was refrigerated meat with cheese melted on top. The amount of meat on my sandwich was skimpy. In addition, there were ingredients added to my meal that were not requested and ingredients that were omitted from my other sub that should have been included. Hubby was ok with his sandwich even though it did not have all ingredients (thus the 2 star instead of one star rating). I expected a steak and cheese that was prepared to order but seems to be pre-cooked meat that is "reheated" as ordered. I couldn't even heat my meat in the microwave because who wants "nuked" Mayo? Yuck! If I want a steak and cheese again I will be going somewhere else.

    Face masks are worn! Bravo

Got to love a good sub and they always deliver! Now the crappy part..... no cherry limeade! WTF! One of the main reasons I go is the cherry limeade! So disappointed!

My husband and I were passing though. We frequent Firehouse Subs in VIrginia Beach and absolutely love it so we thought we'd pop in and grab a quick bite. This one-filthy! Floor has not been mopped in quite some time. Soda machine has splatters all over it. Bathroom has a cup on the floor, unclean toilet and streaks all over the tiled wall. The service was iffy. They girl at the register did not say a thing so I started my order. I expected a "what can we get for you today, welcome to Firehouse"...something. Got nothing. The guy behind the counter shouted "did you almost cut yourself again" which leads me to believe the girl may have cut herself. I hope that none of my food got contaminated. Scary. The food tastes fine (we both got a meatball sub combo with chips and a drink) and it was served hot and fast. The food is why it got 2 stars instead of less.

    Great collection of hot sauces.

Food was not good, forgot Mac and cheese and half the toppings on the sub. Also put an insane amount of mayo on.

Standard Firehouse. Meets expectations but doesn't exceed them. The food is hot, but the service isn't anything to rave about.

Meatball sub was by far the best I've had in a while, nice fat meatballs with melted cheese all around and Italian seasoning on top.

The menu was more than I needed, so I asked the girl behind the counter. She said "the The 51st NY is like an Italian." I bought it. I ate it. Best sandwich I've ever eaten - period - and I've eaten plenty while on planet earth. Fresh bread, plenty of meat, a nice dose of oregano, and a nice amount of mayonnaise ...I'd like to eat another right now.

Their menu was quite large, with hot dogs, cold subs, hot sandwiches, and paninis listed. They also feature a couple soups daily. When we went, they had a loaded baked potato soup and a lobster bisque. The young girl working the front was very happy and helpful and gave some good suggestions too. The place is quaint, with several tables and lots of historic signs on the walls. We started with their baked potato soup - The overall flavor was nice. But the potatoes in it were rubbery, like they used the wrong type of potato or maybe over-cooked it. Also, the soup was just warm, far from being served hot. Next up were the sandwiches - I chose the BBQ chicken sandwich, which had thinly sliced chicken breast on it, along with BBQ sauce, mayo, and onions. The sandwich was pressed, like a panini and was pretty good. I liked the smokiness of the BBQ sauce. I also got a bottle of their homemade root beer and it was pretty good. They serve Route 11 potato chips, which are my favs! So, I had to pick up a bag of Mama Zuma for later - those things are spicey, hot, and tasty! Overall, it's a nice spot, I can see them being a popular lunch spot downtown.

The Castellano had a crisped pile of gorgeous beef, with crispy fries, and super fresh veggies (basically a cheeseburger on a sub). My husband ordered this one, so I didn't taste it personally but he absolutely LOVED it. The Thommy, The Three Fingers is a chopped cheese. It's, by god, the best I've ever had in my life. I add peppers, provolone and mayo and an extra side of tzatziki (labeled garlic cucumber on the menu), and oil and vinegar (which tastes like Italian dressing, but who's counting?). The bread is phenomenal. I may literally just order a sub roll with no ingredients one day, just so I can eat it toasted with butter, with every meal I have. It's soft and fluffy, crispy and chewy all at the same time. (It almost gives bagel, but not tough). I also got the y cheesecake. Not as special, perhaps from the Cysco truck (iykyk), but I still bought it and scarfed it down. Strawberry topping was def the average canned-strawberry topping (but I personally love that). I cannot stress, the food is OUT OF THIS WORLD! As for service, the entire team is so friendly and helpful. They kid around, make silly jokes and make sure your order is prepared fresh and fast. It isn't "fast food fast", but also doesn't taste like shit either, so the wait is worth it. At most 10-15 min if you don't call ahead. As for seating, in winter there are only two two-tops so seating is extremely limited. It is mostly a deli-and-get-outta-here kind of place, but nonetheless welcoming and charming. They have tons of Italian memorabilia all over the walls including giant GodFather posters, taxi plates and more. Today was my first time inside, but I've had my husband go pick up food several times on the way home. I cannot live without one of these subs AT MINIMUM once a month.
