Had an opportunity to meet the owners, and attend Crimson Coward's soft opening. The restaurant is located in the Eagle Village shopping center, near Mary Washington and directly next door to Sweet Frog. Off street parking is ample. The restaurant is clean and spacious, with counter service. The menu has a variety of heat options available for their chicken, from "country" (no heat) to mild (a touch of heat), medium (a slap of heat), hot (feel the burn), to burn baby burn (the hottest level). My adult sons, and my son's girlfriend were in town, so there were 5 of us. My oldest son ordered the 4 piece tenders (mild), with fries and a drink, my youngest son ordered a chicken sandwich combo mild, his girlfriend ordered macaroni and cheese and fries, my husband ordered the 4 piece tenders (no heat), and I ordered the 3 piece tenders (no heat), then we split the Joey Eat Fries, which are Boneless breast, Crimson sauce, slaw, pickles, and cheese, over a bed of Crimson fries. We ordered those with our chicken mild. I'm so happy we didn't order beyond mild, because I can't take too much heat, and the mild was too spicy for me, but perfectly spicy for my husband. For those that like very spicy, you will love the heat, it packs a punch! The tenders with no heat, still were amazing! Everyone in our group were highly satisfied with the size of the chicken tenders/sandwich, and were impressed with how juicy and fresh they were, without the greasy texture. My husband is picky about his chicken tenders, and said that these were by far his new favorites in the area. My son's girlfriend said that her Mac and cheese was great, and the fries were good too. But the Joey Eat Fries were fantastic! Sooo good and more than enough for two people to enjoy; massive, and a meal of their own. The only thing that left something to be desired, was the bread. Would have been better toasted with butter, and perhaps a toasted garlic bread option. Prices were comparable to other similar establishments. We were impressed with the friendly service, speed and delivery of the food, and the quality of the meals. Their grand opening is Monday, April 1st, make sure to check them out! read more

Great value, tasty relatively fast food. I ordered the next to hottest tenders and as a chili-head I can tell you they were genuinely hot (I like my food hotter than most people). I would NOT recommend getting the hottest. The restaurant was clean and very very brightly lit. We have a mixed house here for the review. Hubs loved it; I did not. Husband ordered the breakfast sandwich that had chicken and coleslaw on it. I order the Half Coward 6 wings. We also had an order of fried pickles. First the good: the facility looked clean. The cook was handling raw chicken and handled it correctly. He temped the chicken and everyone was wearing gloves. Husband's chicken was juicy. My wings were quite large. If you like heavily breaded wings, here they are. Now the not-so-good: I was up sold to buy a meal adding drink and fries. They only have sweet tea. No unsweetened tea. I don't drink sugary products so the soda and sweet tea was out. When I asked about it, the staff gave a half hearted shrug and a pitiful "sorry." My wings were so physically hot that they were difficult to eat. Even to the last one, they were too hot to handle. The cheap plastic fork/knife wasn't enough to cut through the very thick coating. In addition to the physical heat, the coating held onto the fryer oil. The wings were greasy to the point of having stacks of napkins to wipe my hands. They were half a clique away from being gross. The water in the one operational bathroom never got beyond cold. I suppose washing hands in cold water is better than not at all but I don't think that meets standards for the food inspector. And the towel dispenser didn't work. I had to use the "napkins" (which were thin and terrible) to dry my hands. For a sandwich, fried pickles, six wings with fries and a drink if you can drink sugar drinks, we paid $45. For the price, the food was far below expectations. It's a very clean restaurant where you can watch your food being prepared. They mostly focus on chicken tenders and sandwiches. I ordered 4 different meals to try. Their sandwiches are the way to go. Service was a little slow, but they did a great job. They didn't just throw sauce in there and make a mess of the sandwiches. It's a fine place to eat but it doesn't stand out. The price is high compared to other restaurants in the area so be ready for that too. I will say the portions are decent at least. read more

It was clean inside and the girl at the register who took our order was very sweet. The girls on the cook line were in their phone and joking around instead of properly handling orders. The chicken we ordered was not fully cooked on two sandwiches and was quite rubbery. Disgusting. The girls at the cook line took 50 minutes and missed one of our friend's orders. We all finished our food before she even approached them asking what happened to her order. For the sandwiches that turned out ok, mild want spicy enough, and medium is way tooo spicy. Just a heads up, there's no real in between. Update: 4 of the 10 of us who visited got sick from undercooked chicken. DO NOT eat here. The one in Stafford is much cleaner. read more

I've been to the Crimson Coward twice so far. The staff is always nice and I've had no complaints in regard to the service. The restaurant has a nice vibe and the food doesn't necessarily come the quickest but it's alright. The Chicken Sandwich isn't the best but their fries and burger are absolutely delicious. Their fries are very well seasoned and packed with flavor. If you're trying out the Crimson Coward I'd absolutely recommend their burger and fries combo. Strong 9/10. The food was good. Their HOT is definitely HOT!!!!!! I had wings and tenders. Good crispy and juicy on the inside. Good quantity of food and reasonably priced (for today's market). The place is fairly new and it seemed a bit unorganized. During the shift when I went it was a bit hard to communicate with the staff in English, but not the end of the world. There is a trend in food service that is not isolated to this place and the trend is less frequent interaction with the customer. The staffs aren't rude, but it's more like you place your order electronically or on your phone and the interaction is limited to "Order Number 2 is ready." Perhaps that is the new norm, but I prefer more communication with the staff. read more

The workers make sure to let you know that "cash tips are preferred," but they don't even deliver it to your table. You have to return to the counter and pick it up yourself! If you're of any ethnic background that is familiar with using seasoning & spices, stay away from this place as it is very...very mid. The fries were the most seasoned item with a total of 3 flakes of fry salt, and no, using the sauce does not count as seasoning a fried chicken breast. I paid $17.19 for a trash chicken sandwich, about 19 French fries & a small drink. ...just go somewhere else. ANYWHERE else. these people leaving positive reviews gotta be friends of the franchise owner or something because this ain't it chief. Food is great as it's fresh and hot! The medium rub on the chicken sandwich is at the perfect heat level without causing you to feel overwhelmed. The size of the chicken breast on that baby will shock you though as well as the price possibly (~$12 a meal) but worth it in my opinion. Unfortunately though, I couldn't stop there and decided to take the challenge! The Burn Baby Burn (just two tenders!) will leave you crying and scarred for the next 24 hours! The service was quick and efficient and each order was labeled and organized by box.
