My husband and I tried this place for the first time yesterday and we asked ourselves why we waited so long! It was really good. I also really like that they support our local police and fire department . The staff was super friendly and patient with us as we looked through all our options (there was no one behind us). Firehouse subs is always my go-to place for a good sandwich. I always get the Smokehouse Beef and Cheddar Brisket, which I normally ask for without mayonnaise. Sometimes they forget to take this off, but that has been pretty much every sandwich place I have been to recently. In-restaurant eating is great, especially if you buy a drink, because from the few I've been to, a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine is a staple. At the checkout, you can add chips, a drink, and a treat (generally a cookie or a brownie), and they ask if you would like to pay an extra dollar to support either a local foundation or a larger charity. If you are looking for a good sandwich, Firehouse Subs is a great place to go, if you don't mind paying a little bit of extra money. Another sandwich place we recently went to was Jimmy Johns, and the sandwich there was eighteen for a 16" giant. A footlong at Firehouse subs was the same price. read more

Left this place with much to be desired! I ordered a salad with chicken on it. Please whatever you do, don't make the same mistake. Maybe it was my fault ordering salad from a sub place. This salad was $8.99, highway robbery for what came quickly to my table. This thing came with chopped iceberg lettuce, the kind you sprinkle on sandwiches, diced green peppers and cucumbers that were nearly invisible to the human eye, diced white plastic looking cheese and some processed chicken cubes. Everything looked like it came straight from a plastic bag. There were no crackers, no croutons, no tomatoes. Sigh. I bought lunch for two. A medium sub, one drink, one salad and my total was $19. Was hoping to give this Firehouse a better rating as I love the Firehouse in Vancouver, WA. Unfortunately, the the Firehouse on Cedar Hills was disappointing. My husband's sandwich was lacking meat on the entire length of the bread. His exact words were: "well this is disappointing." My sandwich had no cheese (it was the brisket and cheddar). We ordered our sandwiches to go, so we were unable to remedy our orders at the time of service. Maybe it was a bad omen when The Uber eats (or other delivery type) driver was arguing with the cashier about not receiving the sides for the orders she was picking up for her deliveries. I really want to like these guys, because they support local charities with part of their profits, but I just can't seem to like them that much. I've been 3 times now, and each time I've tried a different sandwich. And every time I get it and eat it, I'm like "Meh". For the price, it just doesn't seem to knock my socks off. Now for the positives: If you love hot sauce, which I do, this place carries more brands, varieties, and specialties, than any other place I've been too! It's quite extraordinary. The good: NY Steamer was good, I have no complaints on the food. So why just 3 stars? The bad: - Price: I got the "medium" and I'm guessing it's 8". I had a price shock when I saw $8.49 for a medium sub! Although the taste was good, I really don't feel it was worth THAT price with that amount of meat (if you ask me, I'd pay $2 less for this). I had to ask the gal what else is included with that price - yup, it's JUST for a medium sub. Do they know how many other sub/sandwich places are just in Beaverton with appropriate pricing points? - Speed: when I went in, it wasn't crowded at all. One guy was eating at a table, a family at another table, and myself. From the end of order/cashier interaction until my order of 1 med sub was ready = 7 min. With 4 employees behind the counter, what took them 7 min? The 4.5ish star cume on this place is a little generous, to say the least. I don't mind eateries that use gimmicks to sell their product, as long as said product winds up being worth my time. Engine House pizza, for you long-timers in the area, was a big favorite at least for kids, way back in the day. Alack, Engine House is long gone for many years now. I guess that's why the Fire-Fighter angle must seem innovative to some noobs to the area and young-uns. Never the less. There has been a veritable explosion of sub sandwich chains in the area over the last couple years, as has been noted by other writers. I'll give Firehouse credit for one thing: their steam-cooking method makes for very tender meat. I've waited til I had 3 different sandwiches at this place to render my judgment--- the Pastrami, the brisket, and chicken bacon--- and in each case the meat was pleasingly tender and juicy---- but check this, they were all remarkably bland. The best of the 3 sandos was the turkey bacon. The worst by far was the brisket. Maybe Firehouse is secretly in cahoots w/Famous Dave's BBQ, I dunno, but I swear they use the exact same grade of rubbery, blubbery, flavorless meat product. Worse still, they slather said lifeless beef with a thick, sweet glaze. Heavily saucing your brisket is bush-league stuff, muchachos. You can run with the low quality, but you can't hide. I also have tried the "Award Winning" chili @ firehouse subs and I can only wonder at the competition, in which they were deemed the winner? Who were the other contestants at this contest, btw? Dennison's? Hormel? Fred Meyers' old school generic brand My-Te-Fine? As with other Yelp commentators, I was initially impressed by the large and highly varied assortment of hot sauces available @ the counter. They had several sauces @ habanero grade heat, and at least one using Ghost Chilis. Alas, all this wound up doing was making the bland meat extremely spicy. Hot sauce is supposed to enhance the natural flavor of the meat and cheese--- it isn't intended to be doing all the heavy lifting in the "providing the flavor" category. If that were the case, why bother w/all the junk calories in the sandwiches, and just chug the sauce, straight from the bottle? Given the EMS/firefighter theme, the décor in the restaurant was predictably and predominantly red. Red everywhere, coupled w/the bright lights, had me doing flashbacks and remembering why I never shop @ Target, if there's any other choices available, and duly heading for the exit, pronto. Given so many other options, I think it best to revert to a proper spelling of "Sandwhich". Again, given the numerous other options for your hard earned dollar, I'm settled for now on "which" one I won't be returning to, any time soon. Firehouse also does not deliver, leaving Jimmy John's and long-reigning local champ Beaverton Sub Shop prohibitive favorites for the Beaverton area. Stay thirsty, my friends... read more

Can a restaurant be too clean? Not that there's anything wrong with that, but while impressive, the constant sweeping and wiping down was a little distracting, particularly when the place was packed at lunchtime, and also with the large number of tables and chairs placed closely together as well. The cleaning and wiping down never seemed to stop and I just never seemed to feel relaxed. I suspect a better time to eat here in my case is not at high noon or at dinner. With that being said, I really liked the open and very light-filled dining area, and thought the fire house scheme was a fine idea. Each customer is greeted when they enter and when they leave by the very cheerful and friendly staff. I particularly liked that they had their menu not only on boards high above the sandwich prep area, but also had printed paper menus that could be consulted. It seems like lately that menus are placed higher and higher and more difficult and tiresome to read (having to crane one's neck). Ordering is quick, and sandwiches and other sides are delivered quickly by one of the nice staff members. They have a Coke freestyle machine where you can formulate a drink out of any number of flavors. A fun idea, but really it would help if they put up a list of step-by-step instructions on how to make the machine work efficiently. It is not intuitive, and I'm sure I drove the poor people standing behind me crazy with my trial-and-error attempts to get my drink. I ordered the Cherry Limeade, and one of the young ladies suggested I get some lime wedges and squeeze them into the drink as it was usually too sweet. A great idea which I really appreciated. The sandwiches at Fire House are several notches above Subway and Jimmy Johns. I had the turkey and bacon sub fully loaded (mayo, mustard, lettuce tomatoes, pepper ranch dressing, but no onions) on wheat bread. The bread was fresh and the other ingredients were placed together in such a way that everything was nicely put together without having the meat fall out of the sandwich due to too many and too much in ingredients. The sandwich was tasty and satisfying. I think this is a perfectly fine place to get a good sandwich, definitely far better than Subway and some of the other sandwich competitors, and I appreciate the great customer service and friendliness and the hard work of all the employees in keeping the restaurant super clean. read more

Soggy subs, decent chili.. I've been to Firehouse a couple of times, and I really want to like the place. The service is about what you would expect at a fast casual sandwich place, and I love the rack of hot sauces, but I just can't get over a soggy sub. Last time I ordered the Chicken Bacon Ranch, and when I got him, which is about 8 minutes away, the bread was soaked, and falling apart. So today I went in, and ordered the same thing, minus the ranch, thinking that might been the culprit, especially on a to-go sandwich. Nope, same soggy mess. I will say, the Chili is not bad, pretty comparable to Pot Belly. But for the price, I'll take Jimmy John's, or better yet Beaverton Sub Station. I'll give this place one more try with a dine-in option before I totally write them off. read more

No other sub place in beaverton compares right now. I've only been here once so far and it was a good experience. They were busy but had plenty of people working to keep up with the rush. The employees were all friendly. My sandwich was gigantic, my bread was soft, and the flavors were great. The biggest complaint I have of other sub shops is a lack of flavor and hard bread. Ignore the five star reviews, there is no way they are not planted. It would be impossible to have taste buds and give this place a five star rating. The food is super bland, I had the steak sandwich and it was just ok. The food is highly processed, the meat is previously frozen and low grade, lots of fat and really over cooked to overcome how tough it is. The vegis look dead and were probably shipped here from the east coast. Don't let them fool you with the $6 price tag, that is for about a half sandwich, a footling is $8.50ish, and goes up from there if you add anything to it. I gave it two stars because the people were friendly and place was decorated kind of cool. If you want a processed sub go to Quiznos, it's about the same price $8, and the meat is much much better. My first impression of Firehouse is they serve fresh, hot subs with very good quality and taste. The staff is friendly and attentive and the menu, while a bit busy, provides a good variety at a decent price. Firehouse was started by firemen and the decor and signage drills that fact into you. Some of the food has kitschy names like "Hook & Ladder" and "Engineer" but it's not too over the top. They offer white or wheat rolls and buns and, in addition to the 12" or 8" subs, a light menu offers scaled down sandwiches on rolls. They steam their meats and cheeses instead of baking them, which means their buns and rolls are not toasted. However, I like the change of pace from the Quizno's and Potbelly's of the world. The toppings are fresh and the quantity of meat seems appropriate. They have a 120-option Coke machine and all combos have Large drinks, which is either good (value) or bad (health). I'm not sure. I'm not a fan of the Firehouse Chili, but I will be back to Firehouse Subs. They have a much better offering than Subway or Jimmy John's. Firehouse and Potbelly will be in my lunchtime rotation. read more

Tonight was my first time ever at this place and I must say I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! The subs are creative, fresh, and fantastic. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the food was fairly prices, and all-in-all it was a perfect experience. I had the steak and cheddar sub and it was mouth watering delicious! My wife had the meatball sub and she too thought it was excellent. There was a ton of things on the menu I would have liked to try but I'll save that for next time. I've been here twice since they opened. First time they were really busy, the seats were almost all filled, inside and out, If you've been in, you know there are quite a few seats. The wait after we ordered was long enough that I noticed, I think it was about 15 minutes. The sandwich was better than a subway/quiznos, but nothing crazy delicious. Second time in, the wait wasn't bad, and the food was again pretty good all things considered. Consistent quality between both visits, and the place looks clean. This is my first visit to Firehouse subs on Cedar Hills Drive. Firehouse Subs is another chain sandwich place like Subway, Jimmy Johns and Quiznos and, for that reason, I didn't have high expectations for Firehouse Subs. One thing that sets Firehouse Subs apart from the others is they sure take their theme seriously: the dining area looks like a firehouse with chrome, red paint, fire axes and firemen's lockers everywhere, there is a giant mural dedicated to the local fire department on one wall (Tualatin Valley Fire)and there is even a fire prevention tips book located at every dining table! When it came time to order, the cashier even asked me if I wanted to round up my order to the nearest dollar as a donation to the local fire department (I did)! But how was the sandwich? I ordered a meatball sandwich as a comparison since I've had meatball sandwiches at the other chain sandwich places. My reaction to my sandwich was I've had this sandwich before: the texture and flavor of the bread, tomato sauce, meatballs, cheese and dried herbs was so familiar it elicited memories of bygone Subway meatball sandwiches. For me, the sandwich was virtually a clone. I really felt like I wasted my time. And therein lies the problem. If you live in the Portland area, for about the same amount of money it would cost to go to a chain place you can go to an independent sandwich shop run by a guy who probably has a culinary degree and has made it his life's passion to make sandwiches. I love Firehouse Subs. Firehouse started in Florida and I didn't think I would ever eat at one again after I moved to the Northwest. I am SO glad that I was wrong!! Firehouse subs are delectable. The meat is steamed, which makes for a very moist sandwich. The meat tastes fresh and there is a lot of it. I always get the steak and cheese (I have dreams about this sandwich), but I have tasted almost all of the subs because my husband gets a different one every time. Looking at the online menu is why I ordered , the brisket sandwich looked awesome I ordered the medium when I finally got to open it I was wondering what had happened to the sandwich I saw online the meat was not all piled up and sticking out of the buns but instead hiding inside it was tasty probably better than most shops out there but definitely not the star of the meal that award goes to the bread which was so plentiful it took away the goodness that was inside but once I tossed the upper bun and ate it as an open faced sandwich it was good and I could finally see brisket and if you like onions on your sandwich order extra if not you get two thinly sliced rings but don't worry you get lots n lots of sauce that's my take on this sub it was good but at $8.50 I'm still hungry I should have eaten the top bun. read more
