Our food came out in about 5 minutes and it was tasty - got the original cheeseburger (tasty, but not very big), fries (solid), and a lime milkshake (meh - too sour!). The staff were especially friendly and went out of their way to check on us. Ambiance was bright and clean. I'd come back here again.

That said, time and time again, the company removes really great things from the menu, and doesn't replace them with something equitable and it's a bit of a bummer. First for me, the chicken sandwich with the peppers and the aardvark sauce - it was there for the first several years we lived in Oregon, I got it without a bun and it was amazing! It wasn't a seasonal item, just an awesome one! Now, just a plain chicken sandwich that was in the menu before. Then, the cowboy and chicken sliders - we went into get lunch - the cowboy sliders are my husbands absolute favorite and I love the chicken ones. Gone! And no more sweet potato fries. We couldn't land on anything we wanted to order so we left. Let me say I LOVE the local flair and the seasonal items - but it has been such a bummer to see great items come off the menu. Potentially we are the odd ones out and they didn't sell well, and then for that I guess I say fine lol. But man! Those items were so good, and at least for us, as a couple that doesn't really do fast food, were a key differentiator for this chain.

OK, first, the prologue: I love shawarma, and I've had it in NYC, LA, London, Italy, Detroit (lots…read moreof Middle Eastern immigrants there), San Francisco, Philippines, Miami, Toronto, etc. I've got some benchmarks for this. The main text: Lunchtime came and went, and we (spouse and I) stopped at a very non-descript Middle Eastern food place because it was close. I was not expecting much, considering the look of the place, but hunger won out over low expectations and in we went. I ordered the spicy lamb shawarma, and my wife ordered the beef shawarma. The order came out of the kitchen immediately, and man, my entree looked so promising. I took a couple of bites, and great googly-moogly, it was fantastic! I couldn't believe how good it was. It's hard for me to accurately recall a specific meal from decades ago, and then the meals in the decades leading up to the present time, but you know something? I think this might have been the best shawarma I've ever had. Yeah, it was that good. So many wonderful, complex flavors, all the ingredients tasted very fresh, and the slices of lamb were thick and so tender. You must try the shawarma from here if you are a fan of this dish. BTW, it was also huge in size and quite filling. I went out of there fat and happy. And yes, my wife concurred with all this praise. She loved her shawarma as well. Epilogue: I haven't had anything else at this restaurant, but I can testify that the shawarma is revelatory. You like shawarma? Go there today.

They thought they were giving me options but they delivered this with rudeness and no patience at all. I politely declined and left.

El Jefe Grill (Spanish for "the boss") isn't just another Mexican place for you to ignore, this is the real deal for street tacos and their signature fresh, mesquite grilled chicken. El Jefe opens at 8 am to tempt the breakfast crowd with giant burritos filled with bacon, sausage or chorizo. Come back for lunch and try the Taqueria side of the menu, all house made with fresh, quality ingredients, diverse fillings (birria, chicken, lengua, carnitas, al pastor (my personal fave) and even tripa). Along with flavorful salsas at the amazing salsa bar, El Jefe's preparation is simple and authentic. Our first visit we ordered the Whole Chicken Meal combo ($24): a whole perfectly seasoned and grilled chicken (cut up after grilling) with two sides and a pile of corn tortillas. We chose whole pinto beans & guacamole and chips. The chicken was fresh and we got one just off the grill. Juicy, tender, with perfectly charred skin. The whole beans were good but needed some seasoning, as did the guacamole. Plus we had enough for leftovers the next day. You order at the counter from the menu up on the wall. The place is small with a few tables inside but the outside seating area is covered and has heaters. I noted that the plastic panels can be removed for summertime when the weather is perfect for sitting outside. Everything is clean. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. There's a small merch area where you can get an El Jefe T-shirt, travel mug or ball cap. Entrance is level, ADA accessible with no stairs or steps and your doggos are welcome in the outdoor area. Parking is easy and right outside the door. Definitely going to repeat a visit.

Prices - super reasonable - I can rationalize this instead of eating at home any day (thank you!)! Food was good! My husband got a chicken burrito; but with no rice or pico de gallo (he has the cilantro glitch) he said it was a bit dry. But I think that's his situation, not a general rule. I got the chicken tacos - they have all the sides and salsas you could ask for. YUM!!!! Beans and rice as a side - great! A two taco plate with rice and beans for $8. I'll do that any day of the week! I'd pass on the chips and guacamole in the future. Not needed. Thanks for a great lunch! And - we had zero samples at Costco and bought zero items we don't need!!

We're always zipping by on the way to or from someplace, so the opportunity to try it hadn't presented itself until one day last week, after a long dog walk, we happened to be in that area, and we opted for "linner". We used the walk-up window and were greeted warmly. The person who took our order was also training someone new and seemed patient. While we didn't go inside, it looked bright and clean. I had no idea the menu would be as extensive as it was. There were several burger and sides options and a mahoosive selection of milkshake flavors. I ordered a cheeseburger meal with tots and a dark chocolate milkshake. My hubby got a double bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a vanilla milkshake. I wish we had eaten our meals on site rather than driving home, or at least thought to vent our hamburger bags. Because the burgers were in foil pouches and I failed to vent them, the bun and shredded lettuce got soggy. Overall, the flavor was good, and I'm sure it would have been better had we eaten there or vented the burger bags. I did open the bag so the fries and tots would be okay, and they were still crispy and tasty. The milkshakes were delicious. Sure, you could argue even a bad milkshake is still good, but these were pretty darned tasty. Thick but not undrinkably or ear-popping thick. All in all, Mike's is a definite do-over for us.
