I stopped in for lunch with a friend today. I love gyros and Mediterranean food and Blazin' Gyros does it up right. TBH the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired- it has an air of being permanently mid renovation, however, the important stuff they get right (the food, in case you were wondering). We split the Greek Salad (really good-fresh greens, tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, pitted Kalamata olives, tzatziki and Greek dressing on the side). The Blazin' hummus comes with one pita and it was good but the Blazin' Gyro with chicken and the fries with the spicy sauce were the favorites! Wish I had more right now! I've gotten my lashes done out in Tigard for close to 9 years so I have had my fair share of food in the area, Blazin Gyros is a place I come often because it's consistently good. The lamb & chicken is always juicy and flavorful -(there are a few other gyro places and their chicken is always dry so I really appreciate the chicken here) lentil soup is always so good & so good for you! Their salad is much better than any of similar restaurants. Service is always awesome too, super friendly. Overall it's a nice little spot to grab and go or enjoy there, the portions are generous so you'll usually leave with lunch and dinner. Went there based on yelp rating and after ordering, realized the place was filthy and no hot water in bathroom to wash my hands and then no paper towels. I told the guy as we left he was out of paper towels and he said they don't put them in the bathroom anymore because "someone broke the wall thing". My wife got veggie plate and ate some and didn't want to take home leftovers. I had the lamb gyro and asked for no cheese. Got the cheese anyways and there were crunchy bits of meat in there. Tasted good though. Returned home to read in State of Oregon Health Visit they got an 80 for multiple violations, including the bathroom. New to the area and I've had some of the best gyros of my life in the Beaverton/ Tigard area but this place had bad food and bad service. Ordered a hummus gyro and a lamb gyro and gave a 20% tip for a to go order. The hummus gyro was the smallest gyro I've ever seen and the lamb gyro was dry. Visiting Blazin Gyros was a well missed culinary experience! I've driven by here may times and even stopped next door. The ambiance was casual, and the service was par for the course. The star of the show was the lamb Kabab Gyro, the rich, flavorful lamb pure bliss! Far better than any Kebab I've had outside of downtown by PSU. Paired perfectly a Diet Dr Pepper before heading to the taphouse next door. Maybe next time, I'll do that first since im sure it would be even better after that.... hmmmm. Didn't look like the gyro was made from scratch. And unfortunately, the pita was 100% premade and warmed up. So really and truly, I cannot give a place five stars if they're not making things from scratch. With that said it was good it was done well the chicken is always a great option for places because it's rare and almost impossible to not have that made from scratch. I will say the plates were a little bit disappointing I should've read better maybe they did not include pita and for a few dollars more it felt like you got less kind of seem like you got less of what you wanted and more solid and then paid a few bucks extra so my advice is go all gyro for your order. OK, first, the prologue: I love shawarma, and I've had it in NYC, LA, London, Italy, Detroit (lots of Middle Eastern immigrants there), San Francisco, Philippines, Miami, Toronto, etc. I've got some benchmarks for this. The main text: Lunchtime came and went, and we (spouse and I) stopped at a very non-descript Middle Eastern food place because it was close. I was not expecting much, considering the look of the place, but hunger won out over low expectations and in we went. I ordered the spicy lamb shawarma, and my wife ordered the beef shawarma. The order came out of the kitchen immediately, and man, my entree looked so promising. I took a couple of bites, and great googly-moogly, it was fantastic! I couldn't believe how good it was. It's hard for me to accurately recall a specific meal from decades ago, and then the meals in the decades leading up to the present time, but you know something? I think this might have been the best shawarma I've ever had. Yeah, it was that good. So many wonderful, complex flavors, all the ingredients tasted very fresh, and the slices of lamb were thick and so tender. You must try the shawarma from here if you are a fan of this dish. After a full day in Portland, dropping my teen at the airport, I headed back home when I decided I needed to stop for food. I pulled off and look into my options. It was my luck to find a spot serving authentic Mediterranean food with a lot of options, and always a good sign when there's a line of people waiting for food. Greek has always been my go to 'comfort food' that takes me back to memories of my Godmother wrapping dolmades and making koulourakia (anise cookies) for me as a child. I've found that in this region, gyros include pickles, which threw me at first, but I've decided they add a welcome tang. Great food, okay service. If you're looking for good Mediterranean food (gyros, plates, and baba ghanoush), this is the spot. Generous portions, bomb sauce (ask for that Blazin sauce), and well flavored meat. I typically go for the grilled chicken or the mix (lamb/steak) plate or gyro. The salad is good and I definitely prefer the baba ghanoush over the hummus. Would recommend ordering extra pita. This place has gone downhill over the past few years. The gyros have always been amazing and large making for a great value. The atmosphere has never been that good but recently gotten worse. The last 2 times I've been there the sandwiches have been ok but not as good as they once were. What has gotten really bad is the atmosphere. It's increasingly run down with each visit. Another 5 star review. They make the best lamb gyros, pita and hummus. Look at that gyro, its gyro-normous, stuffed full of meat, and every bite is delicious! They do put pickles in their gyros, I ask for no pickles and like it much better without, but to each their own. Get the traditional homemade hummus you won't regret it. Perfect to have in your fridge to snack on. I did try their lamb kabobs once, but the gyros and hummus are what keep me coming back. It's rare that I eat a kebab and want to eat EVERYTHING, but everything - the salad - the sauces - the beef - the rice - everything is flavorful and a meal in and of itself.
