This Firehouse Subs is located in the small Tech Plaza strip mall at the corner of 10th St. NW and Hemphill Ave. NW (same place as Sublime Doughnuts) near Georgia Tech. Firehouse is a national chain of sub sandwich shops with a firefighter theme. The company was founded by firefighters. I've generally found Firehouse to be good. Of the chains, I put it on par with Jersey Mike's and think it's slightly better than Jimmy John's and Which Wich. This Firehouse has a lot of local Atlanta firefighter touches. There's a giant painting on the wall of Atlanta firefighters in front of an Atlanta fire truck with the Atlanta skyline (Tech's Bobby Dodd Stadium, the Bank of America building, the AT&T building, etc.) in the background. Real Atlanta firefighter equipment is on display throughout the store. There's even a book detailing the history of Atlanta firefighters. Like other Firehouse locations, the store is painted in red and white, just like a fire station. The tabletops have a black-and-white Dalmatian pattern. Firehouse specializes in hot subs with nearly 20 different varieties. Most subs are about $6 each and you can double their size by adding $2 to any sub. The large subs are huge and a good value. They're ideal for sharing or for saving a half for later. I recommend the following subs: New York Steamer Sub - corned beef brisket, pastrami, melted provolone, mustard, mayo, Italian dressing Firehouse "Hero" Sub - roast beef, smoked turkey breast, Virginia honey ham, melted provolone Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket - beef brisket, melted cheddar, special sauces All subs come on white or wheat bread and most come with mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, and onion with a dill pickle spear on the side. The bread is toasted and is soft. The ingredients are typically fresh and the quality is good, particularly the meats. The brisket is smoked for over 10 hours. The firehouse on Senioa Rd is completely garbage they constantly mess your orders up did it on the app and in person they still messed it up I don't eat pork but I always get the turkey and ranch but every time I get bacon when I say no bacon I have food allergies it's a reason I said no bacon and calling the 800 number they don't do anything it's a complete waste of time. When you call to complain the only thing they offer you is remake it at this point you couldn't get it right the first time why keep wasting my time our money for that matter. I've been a patron of FS for many years. They are generally one of the most consistent and original sub shops in America. The quality of their ingredients are better than most. They also donate millions every year to firefighting organizations. What's not to love about that? Well...For the first (and last) time I ordered the chili. Who knows more about chili than firefighters? It was hands down the worst chili I've ever eaten. Wendy's is the gold standard on chili and this crud with limp mystery veggies was like eating garbage. While she was explaining, a guy, Brent, who she identified as the owner jumps in and repeats what she said and before I could even answer, he adds with an aggressive tone, "if you don't like it, you don't have to get the sandwhich". Stunned, I respond, "oh my, why did you have to go there". He then said sorry and went on the making sandwiches. My concern is that rudeness, when I was neither rude or aggressive was the first option he chose. Was it because I am a woman or because I am black or maybe he has poor manners? I will never know, but I do know that he modeled poor customer service to his staff and I refuse to patronize him ever again. I'm all for kitsch when it comes to fun sandwich concept places. The fireman theme is sorta cute, and I read that they do a lot for the community, but I was disappointed after making a special trip half-way across town. I'm not difficult to please when it comes to sandwiches, but the photos on their website didn't look anything like the real thing. I ordered a medium "The Engineer" and the combo drink & chip. The total came to $8.95--not bad, but I wish I had ordered the larger sandwich. There wasn't anything special about the wheat bread. The meat and toppings were tasty, but the whole thing was kind of sloppily put together compared to the fast food sandwiches I've had at Potbelly's and Jersey Mike's. Beyond the standard tomato and lettuce, the only thing that might make this different from the other sandwiches on the menu would be various combinations of meat. The taste was pretty good, but, again...it's just a sandwich and difficult to screw up a sandwich unless you use less than premium meats and cheeses. Their big selling point here is that the sandwiches come out hot. There's a captive audience with this being right in the middle of at least one university and close to two others. Ten minutes after we started eating, at least 30 college kids rushed into the restaurant and swarmed the place. It was funny because when we first entered the restaurant, there were more employees than customers! Speaking of employees--I thought they were all friendly. Several asked where I was from, engaged me in conversation about the area, etc. Having pleasant employees made all the difference against the less than stellar sandwich. This is my favorite sub chain but this location is not good. Customer service was below average. This is the first fire house subs I have ever been to that made my allergy specific order incorrectly. They left something I was allergic to on my sandwich and also cut it with a dirty knife even though I specified I had to have a clean knife. I am allergic to tomato sauce and make her a meatball sandwich prior to mine and then got red sauce all over my sandwich when they made mine. Weirdos lounging inside and outside the location made me uncomfortable. One of them followed me to my car trying to ask about my sandwich so it was just strange overall. I have been coming here for about 3 weeks now. This location is right across from Ga. Tech and literally next door to Sublime donuts. Around noon during the week the parking lot is pack. Make sure you lock your doors. The staff are always pleasant. Not overly nice but not rude. They keep it short and sweet. I always get the the medium hot Turkey for $4.99, fully evolved and I add jalepenos, salt, pepper, and oil and vinegar. Sometimes it's supper soggy and sometimes not. The last time I went, a homeless man posted up outside the window right in front of me. He was talking to himself and yelling, laughing, emotionally a rollercoaster. My appetite literally went out the window with the man. Nothing is wrong with homeless people but I just didn't want to look him in eye as I ate a yummy sandwich. The firehouse sub at CumberlandMall located at 2970 Cobb Pkwy SE, Atlanta, is the worst. They fixed my sandwich with everything and refused to correct it since I ordered online. I spoke to the manager at the store and she said they are no longer giving away free food so she gave me the number to the owner who said since I ordered online, they will not correct. First of all, you are not giving away free food since I paid for it and I am returning the sandwich that was fixed wrong! He said that the computer doesn't make a mistakes so it was my fault that the order came over without my selections. He said I should have received an email with confirming my order. I never received an email. I even donated to this store. WRONG CHOICE. Do not donate to places where they are not concerned if your order is wrong or not, they do not care if you are satisfied or not, and will not try to resolve anything with you. These are some FRESH subs. The medium is plenty of food for one person, about 8 inches. Most medium sandwiches range from $6.00-$6.50 which really isn't that bad, given the price of Subway sandwiches and, god forbid, Jimmy Johnson's (unpopular opinion, I know). The large would be huge in my opinion, and could probably be split or shared- those run at at least $9 which is a little pricey to me for a sammich. I've written before about my quest for a decent hot pastrami sub--Jersey Mike's in Midtown unfortunately is incapable of making one without cheese or sauerkraut. I chanced upon the Midtown location of Firehouse Subs one day on a walk home from work. I ordered the hot pastrami sub, and it was almost everything I was looking for. The pastrami had just the right touch of marbled fattyness, the bread fresh and flavorful. No verboten cheese or sauerkraut or cole slaw piled on by accident. It was about as close to a perfect hot pastrami as I've had in Atlanta. Now, normally I wouldn't necessarily care about the relative value of a single pastrami sub to the slowly growing tire about my midsection. Why, then, do I make specific mention about Firehouse? Because their prices are set up so that half of said pastrami sub is about$5.50 while the entire sub is about $7.50. For simple value's sake, I must purchase the full sub for the extra two dollars and eat the whole thing because (despite my ability to walk into Target and not buy a thing) my self control is for crap. I've come to a firm conclusion about chain sub places. For me, if there is a firehouse subs around, Jimmy John's, Jersey Mikes, Quiznos, and Subway can kiss my dust. Seriously the food at firehouse subs is that much better. To be honest, I think this is one of the few fast food places that I actually enjoy eating at. My favorite subs here are the New York Steamer (pastrami and beef brisket) and the Firehouse Meatball subs. They have significantly more flavor than any of the subs offered at their competitors. Theyare also served nice, hot and toasty, and have a great ratio of toppings to bread. And the soda machine at this particular one is pretty cool it. Its one of those new digital ones that they have at Sam's club which serves like 20 different sodas. Pretty neat. There isn't much else to say about this place, except for the fact that I think its pretty neat that they make a pastrami sub (which also happens to be my favorite), and that they should consider making a Cuban Sandwich sub. read more
