My family and I went into Fireflies early Saturday evening. We had no trouble getting seated and a waitress had come to take our orders for drinks less than two minutes after we sat down. I ordered a white pomegranate sangria that was light and refreshing and packed a bit of a punch Since it was fairly early my husband and I decided on ordering a whole bunch of appetizers all came out together and quickly. We ordered the Phantom Platter and 3 sides. The phantom platter boasted to be phantom favorites and the phantom did not disappoint. A large plate loaded with juicy buttermilk chicken tenders, smoky st. Louis ribs, crunchy homemade potato chips, chicken wings, and smoked sliced brisket. We also ordered honey glazed carrots (ehhh, not bad), sweet potato pecan pudding (must have), and red beans and dirty rice(pretty standard) that came with a piece of moist cornbread (yum!) Really good service, delicious food- Prices are very reasonable. For all of this our bill came to right around $40! I highly recommend this place for great BBQ! read more

If I could have given 6 stars for this review I would have done it. My first time there with a couple who have been there before. The place was fun. The atmosphere was very warm & friendly. The food was really terrific. The caesar salad fed three of us. The BBQ ribs & brisket were outstanding (with a great BBQ sauce of my choice), which was expected. But what wasn't expected was the delicious and light cole slaw, perfectly cooked green beans and incredibly delicious corn bread. But the reason I'm writing this rave review is not because of the food; it's because of our waitress named Andrea. I am recovering from spinal surgery, and most hard-backed chairs are uncomfortable. I asked her for a cushion for my back...and she brought me an incredibly comfortable, cushioned chair from someone's office. She brought my friends samples of two beer options, and brought me a taste of the BBQ sauce I was considering. She was incredibly friendly and attentive, without overdoing it. And after her other tables finished and left she sat down and talked with us for a few minutes. She shared that she has worked there for 13 years, how much she loves it, and how proud she is of the owner, their amazing catering business, and the people she works with. We asked what was for dessert and she mentioned red velvet chocolate cake in her list. My friend Jeff started insisting that red velvet cake doesn't taste like chocolate, and he got pretty intense about it. So we ordered a piece of red velvet cake. The piece she brought could have fed a poor family for a week, and she had even obtained a copy of the ingredients list from the kitchen for Jeff. I asked if the owner was in and she said no, so I asked for the manager. His name was Nick, and we invited him to sit & schmooze while we raved about Andrea. He totally lit up with delight, and he was as nice as she was. I asked him to please pass on our praise to the owner, which he assured us he would do. It was the largest percentage tip any of us has ever given (or are ever likely to give!). If you go there, be sure to ask for Andrea as your waitress. How could it be so bad? Way overpriced. Only wine was from a screw top. Undrinkable and the Guiness on tap was COLD! No salt on the homemade chips, and none at the bar. Never thought I would have a fried pickle I didn't like, but they managed to make them! They must use those gross sour slices that get thrown on every cheap burger plate(Subway pickles!). Should be battered, not that cornmeal crap. Paid for extra chicken on veggie salad as we were sharing/trying a variety of menu items. Didn't even find enuf tasteless, cold chicken to rate as one serving. $15!!!!!! Couldn't even find the veggies - a few kernels of canned corn and a handful of cherry tomatoes. Everything was gloppy. Sauces were bland to nasty. Red beans and rice had one little cube of sausage. Cucumber salad was rubbery(peel the cukes or at least score the peel). The sweet potato pudding was OK but ruined by twice as much overly sweet coconut topping as there was sweet potato. The "three sides" were a menu item but they just kinda slopped 'em on the plate. Gluey cornbread, no butter. Do they just bake the chicken and then drown it in high fructose cornsyrup mixed with barbeque sauce? The layout of the restaurant was wierd, the music in the bar was too loud, and the private party in the open dining area intruded on the bar area. I felt bad for the bartenders trying to serve customers in the bar and keep up with the bar oders from the private party. They were drinkin' up a storm and there wasn't even a waitress for the bar tables. Then when we went to leave(we didn't stay long) there were a half a dozen servers sitting in the entrance waiting are twiddling their thumbs. Did not get a doggie bag - wouldn't give it to my dog. Try Westside Barbecue in Worcester. More like a pizza joint, but better barbeque, Or Redbonz(Davis Sq.?). Or just go to Georgia. About 4:00 in the afternoon the smoke starts rising from the BBQ joints and the smell is heavenly! Then you get to eat real food! read more

Stopped in tonight with my family for dinner. Love the new renovations! Bar was opened up and it looks fantastic. Food was good as always, brisket is my go to on the menu. Server was awesome, he was very attentive and did a great job. Being in the business I know how hard serving is, and he was outstanding. Owner stopped by the table to check on how everything was, always nice to have an owner actually in the building checking on guests and asking how our meals were. Seating was quick, service was pleasant and generally fast. I visited with a colleague and we both ordered the Brisket. I was surprised it was cut thicker than any brisket I've ordered before, but it was very tender and had great flavor. We also had the burnt ends and the fried pickle appetizers. The burnt ends weren't what I expected but they were very good. I expected smaller pieces of meat, mostly dry and maybe with some sauce on the side; what we got was basically the same meat we got with our brisket meals but covered in sauce. My husband and I LOVE Firefly's, so it wasn't even a question who was going to cater our wedding. Very affordable...we were right around $25-30 per person with the higher-end options and add-ons we chose. The only reason I'm taking away one star is because of the appetizers. On cold winter nights I love coming here in my sweat pants for some draught beer and delicious Southern comfort food. The nachos are AMAZING, and the ribs are really good. We love getting a taste of everything at the weekend buffet, but it gets so crowded, that the meal is impossible to enjoy. Their tight buffet area cannot handle the crowds. They could try moving the buffet or limiting the seating, maybe that would make for a more comfortable meal. Great choices of BBQ sauces! Best cucumber salad ever! read more

I had the best dinner at FFBBQ. Our waitress Serenity was knowledgeable and friendly she suggested trying a different BBQ sauce and to experiment with them. Yummy!!!! They came out to The Partners HealthCare building in Somerville to cater for our Autumn Festival! The food was DELISH!!!! Pumpkin tortellini omg! I've been dying for it since last week! Nice and savory, and fall-like....clam chowder was PERFECTION! The baked mac and cheese didn't exactly wow me....but the tortellini!!!! Lol! That made up for it! Ok....so...I'm a Texas girl living in Florida. The thing I miss the most is TexMex food and good Barbecue. What a surprise to find some of the best barbecue I've had in years in New England!!! My fiancé and I stumbled upon Firefly's while visiting the area and I admit, I was skeptical at first....but from our warm greeting at the front door, the graciousness of our server Helen...to the fact that the owner, Steve, stopped by to say hello....the only thing better was the food!!!! I highly recommend Firefly's BBQ for families and babies. It is super kid friendly and you can call ahead to put your name on the list so by the time you get everyone out of the car, find a spot, or valet park, your table is ready! Jamie was so patient and helped us through the entire menu even though it was a Friday night and the restaurant was loaded. This was our first visit and we had a toddler so he explained everything and went over the St. Patrick's Day specials and drinks and the portion sizes. They have a huge staff to keep the place running and the food is amazing True New Orleans style BBQ and beignets for dessert. I will go back and make sure Jamie is there because (besides for the food) he was the high lite of the night. So interesting to talk to, knowledgeable about the food and the prep work. A new favorite for our family. I hope to go back sometime without the baby and check out the live music in the back of the restaurant. read more

This place used to be top notch years ago, but has been on a steady decline. They'll always be able to deliver you tasty ribs and tasty pulled pork because this place has hit the nail on the head for their sauces. However, outside of that I can't say you'll be satisfied, especially with the price tag that comes along with your meal. Their sunday brunch might be the best deal in town, especially if you can bring an appetite on a Sunday morning. However, don't expect to visit this place and expect a decent evening crowd. Their back room is filled with outdated televisions if you were hoping to watch a game. Their selection of beer is not impressive by any means, especially since you're paying an arm and a leg for it. And I haven't really seen any decent concert nights planned here for quite sometime. read more

Great local BBQ! I love the big menu and fun condiment bar. The ribs perfect. Collard greens were cooked perfectly. Kid friendly a plus.

Since it's winter I don't do much bbqing on the grill so I've been checking out some places on the weekend when I can. Tried Firefly's today. I got the 3 meat combo. 3 ribs,brisket and pulled pork. For sides mac& cheese collard greens and cornbread. The sides were good would definitely have again. The brisket and pulled pork were very good and tender. The ribs were good I wish I had put more sauce on it. they came together instead of cut. Also I've been to places where the ribs were also bigger and they give you 4. There's are the size of baby backs. But IF I'm I the the area again I would stop by. Price wise it wasn't to bad. read more
