I just don't get why people rave about Firefly's. The BBQ is average and inconsistent. The ribs are always dry and the taste is only ok. The pulled pork is better, but still not that great. With the amount of advertising they pay for with the secophantic Phantom Gourmet this place needs to improve. read more

Firefly's has really great barbeque, which is real barbeque, not just plain grilled food. They have a variety of different styles of BBQ, all of which are very tasty. My workplace has had functions here in the past. They set up a bunch of different trays of food, including a slice of the wonderful cornbread. There is a rack full of hot sauces and BBQ sauces that you can add to your dish yourself if you wish. read more

Went recently on a busy Saturday night. We were seated fairly quickly. Ordered belly claims and ribs. Belly claims were better then any fish restaurant. The cuke salad is always a hit. As an owner of a business I admired how they owner watched over the restaurant and directed the staff on a busy night. I could see the wait service staff hustle to keep customers happy. read more

I am a huge BBQ fan. And as far as I am concerned, this is the best BBQ in Metrowest and the Worcester area. I had the St. Louis ribs and pulled pork. I am partial to the Beelzebar sauce, which is tangy with a kick. I had the baked beans and corn on the cob for sides. I find the prices reasonable for the quality of food, especially since it is so hard to do good BBQ. And I have never been dissatisfied with the service. Good, solid place. read more

Great food. It was my first time and I loved it. Really fun atmosphere. The waitress was awesome. Very helpful and attentive with really good energy. I will go back when I come to town. read more

I went to Firefly's recently with a friend who raved about the chicken wings. I being a chicken wing junkie....drove all the way out to Marlborough with her to check em out. The wait was about 1.5 hours and we had no reservation. Have I mentioned I am no genius and neither are any of my flunky friends ? ;) We were told we could hang and wait at the bar and have some drinks while we waited but that we could also order in the bar area. Seeing as the bar area was kind of small I thought we would just hang out and wait over some beers. I thought the tap selection was pretty nice. Blue Moon, Stella, Sam Adams Seasonal, Wachusett Blueberry, & More. Our adorable bartenders were busy and seemed stressed. I hadn't realized that the place was packing up because a band called Playing Dead was about to go on. Sweet, I never saw them before and they are a pretty well known Grateful Dead cover band. Live music in a cool atmosphere...always a bonus. We had some Blueberry beers and Blue Moons and before you knew it, we were being seated in the dining room. My friend told me to pretend i had been there before so we could skip the whole bit about the free appetizer things and sauces. Nice. Who wants to listen to all that static...not me. NEXT. SO we order these monster chicken wings and fried dill pickles to start. My friend warned me that the wings are enormous but I just didn't KNOW how serious she was. They are smoked and basted with a hot cayenne sauce & served with Memphis ranch dressing (whatever that means lol) and hot sauce with carrots and celery. They are so meaty (insert the Talk Soup voice-over) and bigger than my head. Pretty great flavor considering. The fried pickles were really good but I had trouble eating them to be honest. I was getting overwhelmed and this was just the beginning. I ordered the baby back ribs (Beelzebar Sauce) with 2 sides and cornbread. Just even saying that out loud or writing this makes me feel gross all over again. The sauce is a spicier version of the Memphis Sauce, which is a sweet tomato based BBQ sauce with brown sugar, molasses, and chocolate which boasts over 40 national awards. Nice flavor!!! If your gonna get your FAT ON, just go for it. Why hold back. I got the Mac n Cheese and cucumber salad for the sides. I had trouble just eating one bite of the 1/3 slab of baby back ribs. They were delicious though but I was starting to surrender early. The Mac n Cheese was oozing with awesome cheesiness and it pained me to give in so early on in the fight. HA. Loved the cucumber salad. It definitely took the edge off and had great refreshing flavor with all this heavy food. My friend ordered the pulled pork sandwich that (but of COURSE) I just HAD to try. It was fantastic. Thank GAWD for leftovers like this because I swear they are even better the next time sometimes. But use the oven you lazy fuckers....especially with THIS kind of food. ;) The service was really great. The atmosphere was fun and loud but in a good way. I would definitely go back. Went on the other side after dinner to check out the music, and the place was hopping with old school Dead heads, Nice Acoustics, and people playing pool all around us. I wish it was closer to home. Firefly's is pretty great! read more

Highly Recommend Fireflys! Absolutely the best beef ribs I have ever had! Corey was our server and she was so great. Definitely will be going back, read more

OK, I've reached the end of the road with regards to dining at Firefly's. 3 consecutive sub-par performances, and the last visit was the crowning (drowning) achievement. So let me begin with the first 2 visits... Visit 1, the fried chicken tasted like fish, and were clearly cooked in old, fishy oil shared with seafood items. The ribs were also horrible that day, chewy and dry, and all 4 diners complained immediately. No big deal, a one time occurrence, right? Visit 2... tried the buffet. Food was buffet quality, nothing special. The fried chicken, however, another story. People were complaining there was no white meat chicken on the buffet, so the waiter went back to check the status. He returned to tell us that there would be no white meat on the buffet, and if we wanted it we would have to order the fried chicken meal, as there was an apparent "shortage" in the kitchen. Not a huge deal, but a bit aggravating... Visit 3... we noticed they changed the menu. Weren't thrilled, as my wife typically got the grilled chicken sandwich, which no longer exists? Instead she got a burger, which was overcooked and generally BLEH. I, silly i know, ordered the fried chicken dinner. With all white meat, comes in just under $20. Seems steep, but if its good then so-be-it. I get the chicken, and was horrified to see I had ONE chicken breast, cut into 2 small pieces, and 2 wings. Are you kidding me?! Whatever though, 3 strikes we are clearly done with this place, right? So I eat the first piece of chicken when I notice a 6"+ black hair on my food. Right on the chicken... The waitress is called over and to her credit was extremely apologetic, The manager then came over and did a nice job of comp'ing the meal, and again apologized for the mishap. Bottom line, this place is overpriced, and generally has gone downhill steadily over the past 2-3 years. We used to enjoy coming here (and to Framingham) frequently, but this was the last straw. One more thing.. that new mac & cheese? Revolting. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. read more

Went with my family for dinner tonight. I got the pulled pork/ brisket combo. The food was excellent. Service was wonderful. We were all so pleased with our experience at Firefly's. I can't say enough good things. You must check it out. We will be back for sure! read more

This place used to be a go to for us for BBQ. I'm not sure if management has changed or they just don't care. We sat down and it took 10 minutes for someone to come over to our table - we were borderline ready to get up and leave. And there was only maybe 3 other tables with customers, so it's not like they were busy. Used to get a really good cucumber salad when you sat down, not doing that anymore by the looks. The portions were much smaller than they used to be and you don't get nearly the amount of food you used to for the money and the food is disappointing to say the least. The carrots and celery with our wings tasted like they had not been refrigerated and sitting out, disgusting. We got 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 1 beer and 1 soda. $80.00 dinner and not even close to worth it. We used to really like this place, but after this experience most likely won't be back anytime soon. read more

Today was my first time dining in at Firefly's and it was amazing! We sat in the bar area so we could watch the Bruins game while eating lunch and our server was Andrea who was really fantastic!. She went through the different menu options with us and was very attentive, friendly and personable the entire time. We ordered the combo meal of brisket, pulled pork and ribs which were all winners. Firefly's is taking social distancing very seriously while still providing a great atmosphere, great food and great customer service. I highly recommend a visit. read more

Glad I finally got to try this place. The jerk chicken tacos were pretty amazing and my husband said the ribs for the best he's ever had. The homemade cornbread was on point. Although I wish they brought it for free to the table. The pickled cucumber was a great touch even our 10 month old loved it. Service was outstanding. Very kid friendly place. But also a fun date spot. Really good price for the amount of food as well!! read more

Amazing food that reminded me of home with great service. Love the sweet tea! Wonderful live music in the lounge.

Great food, fall off the bone ribs! Cornbread and sides are outstanding! Wish they were closer to home but definitely worth the ride. Great job! Back again tonight for dinner. Service was great, busy Saturday night too. Owner was making the rounds to talk to each table to ensure everything was good. Started with drinks and an appetizer of burnt bites. Brisket bites that were so good and tender! Had a combo platter of brisket, ribs and pulled pork , sides of fries, coleslaw and Cornbread. Food was excellent! Definitely worth the ride!! Best BBQ I've had! Great service and Steve came by several times to check on us and make sure everything was as we ordered. Definitely worth the ride ! read more

I love the food here. I try to come to Fireflys anytime that I'm up visiting my family. They are usually quick and efficient. The macaroni and cheese is one of my favorites! read more

Surprised to see so many good reviews. My experience was pretty disappointing. I should have left as soon as I sat down and realized both the menu and the table were sticky. But it was late so I stayed. I got the burnt ends to start and they were awesome! The only reason for 2 stars and not 1. They were the highlight. I got the rib and brisket combo. The ribs were so dry I couldn't eat them. They tasted like they had been left out and re heated. Just not good. The brisket was okay, really lacking in flavor. The best part of the plate was the corn bread. I ate almost none of my food yet the server didn't even ask me if everything was okay. He never checked in. It was 8 pm on a weekday and not busy at all so I'm not sure what he was doing. My food came out in less than 5 mins which is a little suspicious. For some reason it took forever to get the check. Won't be back. read more

Years ago this place was great. Now-not so much. There just isn't decent bbq in the Metrowest area. Inconsistent quality, suuuuper fatty meats, and it's STILL always FREEEEZING COLD inside. I just dislike having to bring a coat to wear inside while I eat. In fact, I literally may bring gloves - if there is a next time. read more

My sisters and I had a 90th birthday party for our Aunt on 3/10. We had 23 friends and family members attending. Pam was extremely helpful in making all the arrangements since I live in Connecticut. The food was very good. Corn bread is delicious! Our server Bianca was awesome!! She handled 23 people like it was a table of 4. Attentive, friendly, the ultimate professional. It made for a very happy birthday for my aunt. Thank you. Judy Z read more

This was our second party catered by Fireflies and it was awesome! Jennifer, our server, was so friendly and accommodating - even stayed later to accommodate our needs. The food was over the top delicious and so moist and hot when served. Sirloin tips, Bbq chic, pulled pork and ribs each better than ever. The coleslaw is the best anywhere and cornbread ditto! Can't wait for our next party to enjoy the good and service! Five stars!! read more

Another Phantom Gourmet fail. It looks so good on the show that I had to drive all the way out here to try these ribs. But when we got there everything that was served to us was cold. Macaroni and cheese was cold, ribs were okay but cold. The brisket was tough and cold. The drink that they served us had the bare bare minimum of liquor. Portion size was good for the amount of money. But maybe if everything had been hot and cooked well done. Our chicken wasn't even cooked right it was still pink in the inside. All in all I just would never go back to this place ever again. Way too far out for blah food. I'm starting to have a little faith in Phantom Gourmet!!!!!! read more

By far the worst food I've ever had. This is not a place you go for food it's a place you go to for pool, music and alcohol If you want to have some fun then this is a great place. If you want good bbq go someplace else. read more

I've had a lot of BBQ that ranged from poor to OK to unforgettable. This place seemed to have a great menu, ambiance, and was highly rated by Phantom Gourmet, so we took the trek with hopeful expectations. We got there at around 9 pm on a Saturday and after we settled in, a live band began to play. We could hear them from the restaurant and they were just so-so but it was nice just to have one on site instead of the usual canned music. The cucumber salad instead of bread was a nice start. The ambiance was relaxed and fun and the waitress suggested the pulled pork, a popular menu item. We both ordered platters with macaroni and cheese, glazed carrots and steak fries. The food came quickly along with huge sodas. The corn bread was very moist and had good flavor. The macaroni and cheese was also better than average but after having several forkfuls of tender pulled pork, I became quickly resigned to having just another bland BBQ experience. I asked myself several questions: How could this be one of the 8 best BBQ's rated by Phantom? Have they been here recently or do they not know what good BBQ is? How could the Memphis BBQ sauce, although not bad, have won "over 40 national awards"? This was my first experience using the Phantom Gourmet as a guide and the result was a big disappointment. Going forward, I will be using more current word-of-mouth from people that have a much higher bar for what it means to have a good dining experience, especially when it comes to real BBQ. read more

My family had the pleasure of contracting with Firefly's to provide a top-notch BBQ for my daughter's backyard, COVID-safe wedding. From the moment I called the restaurant several months ago to confirm that they were indeed ready to cater again, to when the servers wrapped up the last of the leftovers, the experience was 5-star. Our two servers were professional, respectful, super helpful, friendly, supportive and truly sensitive to being safe for our guests. We appreciated that absolutely every effort was made by Firefly's to make EVERYONE feel comfortable at our event. By the way, the food was plentiful and delicious! read more

1st time at FF's, not 1st time eating it because they catered my brother-in-law's 40th b-day. However I'm only rating going there. 6 of us, 4 adults, 2 kids (3&5). We are seated at a table 3 chairs corner booth. My wife and I took the chairs on the same side. That was a mistake, every time someone walked by we at least 1 of us were clipped. This is because the table right behind us was a 4 top in a place where a 2 top would fit. My 1st time, got the spiel about free app type veggies around the corner and bbq sauces. Ordered a Stella. Wife's lemonade (order of ingredient: ice, water, sugar, lemon.) Lets talk menu, not only BBQ but southern cooking. My wife and I never went because she's not big on the BBQ, but there was a large section of other southern fav's like hush puppies, and catfish Po' boy's and fried chicken, waffles, and other non BBQ good eats. I got hush puppies and the catfish Po' boy, others at the table got fried chicken, rack of ribs, the kids got chicken tenders and waffles most meals came with home made potato chips. I could of got my Po boy with sides but I took it stand alone and asked to have it come out with my hush puppies. Not a problem. Hush puppies were good, not great, but worth trying again, nothing overly wrong with them, but there also wasn't anything risky with them, in other words not really seasoned either. So good not great. Po' boy, YUM! There was a time where my wife mentioned it looked like chicken, until I bit into a piece and showed the flaky fish inside the nuggets. YUM! Other meals were great too. Fried chicken was moist and tasty, even got my wife an all white mean plate. Had a rib, and a piece of waffle and picked off others plates so much I only ate half my Po' boy and took the other half home. Before leaving my wife and I got a slice of red velvet cake to go. When we got home I had the rest of my Po boy, still good. And when we had the cake the next night, it was still fresh, cream cheese based frosting, delicious. So why 4 stars, not 5? A few things starters pricey, it's good but is it that good??? Also over crowed, too many seats for the space, really can't enjoy my meal being bumped into everytime the waitress walks by. There were a few minor hiccups along the way, but nothing worth really compiling about, just not perfect, 5 stars is perfect. But 4 is awfully close. read more

Good food. Definitely over priced. There are better BBQ joints in the area but this place has a great atmosphere for a night out with friends. Good for large groups too. read more

I came back to update this even though my original post was quite a few months ago. The manager did send me a gift certificate that we used for dessert on another visit, but that's not why I'm changing my rating. We have been back to Firefly's quite a few times since my last review, as it's one of my husband's favorite restaurants. Generally the food is good (I get the southern tacos every time and I love them, my husband likes the ribs and brisket, and my kids like the waffles and mac and cheese but LOATHE the smiley fries). While sometimes the service is slow, the servers always seem to be working hard. My tip for everyone who mentions this restaurant is this: always ask for a booth or a table up against the wall. Something about the set-up of the dining room means that there are a bunch of 4-top tables lined up down the main walkway of the restaurant. If you are seated at one of these you will be bumped into and tripped over for your whole meal. It's really uncomfortable while I don't know a good resolution- I think the room just isn't wide enough for the tables it need to fit. I would still caution any first-time diner to make sure they're NOT seated at one of these tables! Anyway. I have never again had a bad experience like I posted about earlier this year, and we do frequent Firefly's. We don't regret it ;) read more

The water glasses were big 32oz glasses which is always great and diminishes the need for constant refills. Although I did get a refill without asking when it was half full. We had Sunday buffet. A lot of meat products. I only eat chicken so my select was cut by 2/3. However I knew that and was able to fill up with no problems. The pulled chicken was delicious. The BBQ chicken and Mac & cheese were good. The omlette station was slow but the overall product good. The desert selection was small. The price ($15.95) seems a bit too high. The fireballs, rather than mints, was nice and welcomed. read more

This review is on customer service, not the food, really. They had a booth at this past weekend's Boston Calling music festival on the plaza at government center. I was starving after standing for 4 hours. Ordered the "barbecue bowl" for $14, which was supposed to include barbecue chicken or pork, barbecue beans, cole slow, and mac and cheese. I paid my $14 and waited for the my food. They were out of cornbread which was the first disappointment since they are supposed to be known for it according to the reviews on here. I got the bowl and there was no cole slaw so I asked about it. This bald, older guy yells "I don't have cole slow, what do you want me to do, we are out" to which I responded, "you don't have to yell, you just could have told me before I ordered is all." He starts opening up the register and yelling, "what, you want your money back??! here!" I told him to chill and that I didn't need the money back. All he had to do was tell customers or put a sign up or something. They didn't even offer me more of another side or anything. I know that the portions are not the same at a festival but it was a very small amount for $14. IF they didn't have enough food left to serve proper portions, they should have slashed the prices. That guy was a jerk...he talked to his workers rudely as well. Customer service is key, especially when there are so many other good barbecue places to give you money to. read more

Great bbq and a great place to hang out and play pool and watch the bands on friday and saturday night!

After hearing good things about this place, my wife and I decided to meet a friend here for dinner. The interior was not quite what I expected. A litle more on the "chain" like scale typical to Denny's or TGIF. It was interesting that they had a sauce bar. We got to try a couple of their six sauces. The Mephis sauce was sweet with hints of chocolate. The dixie sauce was tangy with a bit of spice. Both were good. I ordered the sampler so I could try the ribs and pulled pork. Both were deliscious! The sweet potato pecan pudding was a great side. Fries were the thick steak fries that weren't anything to write about. My wife ordered a steak which she said was pretty fatty and veiny. It was pretty bad. For dessert we shared the red velvet cake, whcih we decided must be white cake with red coloring and a cream cheese frosting. Again, nothing to write about there. Drinks were good and not watered down as you went along like you find at some other places. Staff were very friendly and even got us some milk after trying some hot sauce that was a little over the top for us. If it weren't for my wife's experience with her steak, I would have given this place 4 stars. Worth a look if you're in the area. read more

Best BBQ in MA! We found Firefly's at the Mount Wachusett BBQ Festival. We looked at the food from all the other vendors and Firefly's looked the best so we stood on their 45 min line and it was completely worth it! I think with BBQ, you can judge a book by it's cover. We ordered the Ribs, the glaze was thick, a deep brown and red and the smell was intoxicating! The Taste was even better. We liked it so much we went a week later to the actual restaurant in Marlborough, and they surprised us even more with their sides - Sweet Potato Pudding, and their smoked wings were phenomenal, and their service! We got served immediately, they kept coming with water and even the owner stopped by our table. We cannot wait to take other people here! read more

I'm hungry just thinking about it! I was skeptical about finding good bbq in New England, but Firefly's does it well! I've had great pulled pork and ribs here. The sides are not stellar, but that's not why I go to a bbq joint. Decent selection of beer on tap, always seems fresh. Get the pulled pork appetizer (on their homemade chips)! It is absolutely the best combination, I get it each time I've been. Very kid friendly, went with a toddler. Service has been good when I've been. read more

I'm not a big barbecue fan. I went for a work party an the place seemed pretty good. I am a healthy eater and had a very hard time finding something that wasn't going to instantly clog my arteries (luckily I was surrounded by physicians and nurses). Our waitress was really awesome, handling such a large group. Dante's was fun but I thought $12 was a little much to see a band after we had just hosted a party of about 20 people, plus we didn't go in until the band was already mostly done. Dante's was absolutely packed; no place to sit and no place to even hang your coat, so we stood around holding our coats where we couldn't even see the band. There was only one bartender for this enormous crowd so getting a drink was a project. At least the band played some Stevie Ray Vaughan so that made me happy. read more
