I haven't been to Firefly's in years (no issues with the restaurant, we just moved out of town), but it was just as good as I remember. I've been craving BBQ for weeks and this finally satisfied the craving. I love their combo meals, it's a great way to sample everything you want. I opted for the two meats combo and can say that I had enough left over for lunch the next day. The pulled pork and ribs were great and the option to add whichever BBQ sauce suits your fancy is a nice touch. The sides list is almost overwhelming, especially when you want some of everything! The Mac and cheese was good with a thick cheese sauce and noodles that held their shape nicely. I also got the sweet potato pecan pudding. It's essentially dessert, but it's a nice way to break up the meal. Overall, food was tasting and the service was great. This is a solid BBQ joint with great options for everyone. read more

I was surprised that Firefly's had very good BBQ. They could easily compete with BBQ joints in Texas and Tennessee. Two of us sat at the bar and split an order of the Pick 3 Meat plate with a side of beans and greens (added jalapeno cornbread and a salad also). The three meats were brisket, ribs and pulled pork. The brisket was very tender, ribs nicely charred and pork moist. The greens were tender and well flavored and beans were tasty. The condiment bar was a nice touch. I love peppers and there was a good variety. We tried the Dixie Kiss, N Carolina and Texas BBQ sauces. They had a nice flavor, but the N Carolina was a bit runny. I prefer a hot/spicy sauce and the options available were on the milder side.Other items I noticed, but didn't order are jumbo wings and burnt ends. Both looked delicious. read more

THIS place is Awesome!! My new favorite place for BBQ in New England! Efficient and friendly service. I forget the name of the cutie who served us but he was on it. Good timing, we never wanted for anything! Ok so the food was great! Not necessarily the best BBQ ever, but solid and tasty. The pickled cucumber start was amazing! Oh and the whiskey!!! After ordering shots of 10year Whistle Pig, the general manager came over and gave us some fascinating details about the whiskeys they carry (over 100) and differences between rye, wheat, etc. A couple samples to conclude the lesson and I'm a happy customer! We are driving through Marlboro, MA on our way to Bar Harbor, ME and we had dinner at Firefly's BBQ. We went there for the outside seating, and although it wasn't open, but they made all the effort to open 1 table for us and accommodate us. From the server Kaleena to the manager Robert, all very nice and checked on us periodically. The food was awesome as well. A favorite of our family, we have not been in a few months due to coronavirus. We went this past weekend, and it was as great as ever! Brisket, pulled pork, fried chicken... All absolute winners, some of the best barbecue in the area and even the entire state. Their ability to take humble foods like cornbread and potato salad and transform them into something interesting and exciting is remarkable. Now that restaurants are taking seatings, Firefly was one of our first stops and we were not disappointed! We were first impressed by the organized entry process and awesome outdoor patio, though we ate inside because of the heat. The drink and beer list was impressive and reasonably priced. If you are a whiskey drinker, that list looks insane! The menu features a diverse variety of BBQ, as well as decent vegetarian and gluten free options. We didn't have room, but both the appetizer and dessert menu were impressive. My partner and I split a 3 meat platter - St Louis Ribs, fried chicken, pulled pork, Mac n Cheese, collards, cornbread and an extra side of dirty rice. Everything was done right. Mac n cheese and fried chicken particularly stood out to me. We are looking forward to when it is safe to visit the bar and hang out for a game. It looked like a spacious, comfortable room to enjoy the insane-sounding nachos and awesome beer list. Of note was their organization and cleanliness in light of the pandemic. The dining room is big enough that parties are comfortably separate. Staff were cleaning tables, booths, and chairs as parties left. Every patron was required to have their forehead temperature taken. They are taking the health and safety recommendations very seriously while delivering on an incredible dinner. read more

Our building had their annual company BBQ feeding around 400 attendees. With our typical caterers unable to fulfill the needs this year, I contacted Firefly's about 2 weeks before our event. Bianca was beyond professional and organized, answering my emails promptly, asking questions, and being overall proactive while ensuring they will be able to accommodate all requests we had. Upon arrival-they were early which was already an amazing sign!- the team was coordinated and ready to go. There was clear communication and expectations set, to which I did not have to lift a finger! I was able to focus on additional aspects to the event such as table and chair setup, speaker setups, etc. As if this was not already above and beyond enough, the team began clearing off the leftover trash on the tables and directing employees to the shortest line as we had 3 stations! I cannot speak highly enough of the team and their capabilities and we look forward to working with them in the future! read more

We are big into BBQ! Today we ventured to Firefly's for the first time. We asked to be seated outside, and we were thrilled with their outside patio (very welcoming and comfortable)! First we ordered the Jumbo Chicken Wings as an appetizer. There were 4 of us and after eating one each, we all looked at each other and said, "These are amazing!" "Unbelievable!" "Best I have ever had!" and "Wow!" The difference is that they use a rub on them. You don't even need any of the sauces because they are so good by themselves. Our servers, Jamie and Marisa, were very accommodating and knowledgeable. They gave us lots of info about their favorites, we talked about all the different kinds of BBQ in the US and also we learned about the history of the restaurant. I ordered the 2-meat combo with ribs and brisket. It came with very moist and buttery Cornbread and for sides I had the Mac and Cheese (homemade cheese sauce and perfectly light and fluffy) and the Collard Greens (with just enough vinegar). Others ordered the Brisket Sandwich, the 3-meat combo with Fried Chicken, Brisket and Ribs and another 3-meat combo with Pulled Pork, Texas Sausage and Brisket. Our table went quiet because we were in heaven as we devoured our food. Jamie gave us the low down on all the sauces. He guided me to put the North Carolina sauce on my Brisket and the Dixie Kiss sauce on my Ribs. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and then Jamie went above and beyond for my husband. He didn't realize that he could have ordered dark meat for his Fried Chicken, so Jamie went into the kitchen and brought him a special piece of dark meat. My husband described the Fried Chicken as crispy, juicy and full of flavor. He said that it was by far the best that he had tasted! None of us really had any room for dessert; however, we knew that we would really be missing out if we didn't order the Chocolate Beignets. Both servers told us that we would love them and they were right. They were flaky, moist and the chocolate was gooey. At the end of our stay, the owner, Steve, came out to chat with us. He was a pleasure to speak with and we could tell that he genuinely cares about his customers, his staff and of course the food that he is serving. Great end to a long day. Very minimal wait time, restaurant was noisy but tolerable (even to a grinch like me). Our server, Andrew S, was friendly, efficient and attentive. We had the nachos with pulled pork...very good...plentiful and hot. I ordered the shrimp plate special and was pleasantly surprised by the portion. Just enough French fries (not the usual giant mound) and more than enough shrimp, battered and fried perfectly with a nice remoulade for dipping. My friends ordered fish tacos and ribs weren't disappointed. The host, who I can only assume was also the owner, was kind enough to get me some extra napkins and checked on us mid meal to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Very friendly and genuine. Thought the chicken was very good and wish I just got that. Brisket and ribs were pretty dry and sides were not good. The baked beans were the largest beans so It was too beany if that makes any sense and cole slaw was also like a salad with no dressing. During my meal last night fireflys showed me truly how great a BBQ restaurant can be. I ordered the 2 meat combo and chose to try the St. Louis ribs and pulled pork. Both items were some of the best I've ever had. But that was just the start of how great this place is. The restaurant offers a BBQ bar where you can sample all of their award winning BBQ sauces before you have to choose which one your meal gets cooked with. The Memphis is by far one of the top sauces i have ever tried, which inspired me to buy some to bring home. Next the two sides plus cornbread that came with my meal were outstanding. I got the Mac and cheese as well as the home made chips. Went for the weekly specials. As usual, Firefly's did not disappoint. The atmosphere was perfect. Lively but not too loud. Had Kaleena as our server and she was amazing! Very attentive. If we needed something she was on top of it. And she was funny! Had our son laughing whenever she came over. We had a few questions on some items on the menu and she answered them with ease. Asked her opinion between two entrees and she was honest about which one she preferred. Didn't get the usual "they're both great" like I have from other places. And our food came out quick! Came here for the first time and didn't know what to expect but the parking lot on the outside is huge so it must be popular! The restaurant is sectioned into about 3 different parts with one of them having live band show on a Friday night we went. We ordered waffle chicken with coleslaw and sweet potato fries. We also had the rib and pulled pork platter served corn bread with the sides cheese and mac, potato salad. The waffle was a bit salty but it's ok otherwise it would be weird to have sweet and salty chicken. The chicken was crispy and salty with a choice of white gravy or maple syrup on the side. The coleslaw and sweet potato fries were delicious, comfort food. The rib and pulled pork platter already had bbq sauce and but not too much so that you can add your own. There is also a stand where you can pick from at least 8 different bbq sauces and a bunch of other pickled vegetables unlimited. The food came quickly less than 10 mins maybe but there were also less people when we arrived. Portions were huge! You get what you pay for. Two of us ordered our own dishes but we probably only finished one because they were so big. Great service! I'd definitely come back here with friends who are visiting from out of town. read more

I went here this weekend with my partner and unfortunately it was not a great experience. It is most unfortunate because my partner has stated many times before that this place has always been THE BBQ place to go to in Massachusetts. We went during an apparently busy time on a particularly busy night, without reservations, though we were seated immediately since all the buzz was about sitting outside and seeing the live music. Our table was clean and all of the staff at the hostess desk were pleasant. Our server was very busy, understandably so, so I wouldn't fault her for forgetting things or being in a hurry. For drinks, my partner and I ordered a Pepsi and a Dante's Mule, later followed by a water. The Pepsi came in a huge cup, which was actually very pleasant, but the mule however was not up to our expectations. I'll be honest here and say if it were any other signature drink I wouldn't complain, but there was little to no ginger taste at all; it pretty much tasted only of vodka and lime, which was pleasant in its own sort of way, though not recognizably a mule. I mentioned the water we ordered because it never arrived to the table before we left. For a starter, we ordered the burnt ends because I'm a sucker for them, and I find that not every BBQ spot offers them (I'd imagine because of the extra time it takes to prepare them alongside the rest of the brisket). The meat was inconsistent with some pieces being delicious and tender, others being tough and dry, though the horse radish sauce was wonderfully paired. The biggest reason for the less than stellar review was for the rest of our meals. I had ordered a combo of brisket and pulled pork, with the beans and coleslaw. My partner ordered the half rack St. Louis ribs, with a side of cucumber salad and Mac and cheese. The waitress informed us that they were out of baby back ribs, which I actually like to hear since it implies they serve only what was cooked fresh for the night and when it's gone, it's gone. This is where the rub is however, the meat we were served tasted a bit off. The brisket had a nice bark and good fatty portions, though the meat itself was dry. The extra black pepper and bark lead me to believe the cooks know their texas style well, so I figure it must just be the food having sat there or something, since it was the case for the ribs and the pulled pork as well. Additionally, the sides, besides the cucumber salad and cornbread, all tasted a bit off: the Mac and cheese was sort of tasteless, the coleslaw tasted sort of off, and the beans were alright, but still a bit odd? I recognize everyone has the same general variety of sides, so there need to be creative liberties taken and so I would never knock Firefly's for offering their own spin on sides, but this tasted just strange? Again, I don't take pleasure in mentioning all of this and I only say so to provide info to both customers and management who evidently pay very close attention to these reviews. I truly wish I could say I had a better time, and I hope to come back to firefly's someday in the future and have a different experience, but as it stands, we couldn't even finish our meals. If this was some cheap throw away experience I wouldn't be upset, live and learn, etc., but it was nearly $100 including a tip for the two of us. I recognize the love and attention that go into preparing this sort of food, I have spent a long time preparing and smoking my own BBQ, so I can only imagine the standard the owner holds himself and his business to. Unfortunately, I think it may be a while before I go back, and I hope that management don't assume I'm just some hater they must deflect or discredit. Myself and my husband were looking for the perfect restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and after two weeks of searching The Phantom Gourmet brought us here. Aside from getting married, deciding to visit Firefly's was our second best idea. We looked at the menu and already decided we were coming back for another visit before we had even tried anything, all of the dishes being served to the customers looked amazing. The restaurant itself provides a nice atmosphere and is very clean. I'm not sure if they offer walk-in service, but we did make a reservation as we were driving from an hour and a half away- glad we did because the house was packed! Now onto the food. Hands down the best damn BarbeQue I've had in my life. No other BBQ spot around can compare, and they have the awards to prove it. They offer different sauces (such as vinegar based, tomato based, molasses based, etc.) and there wasn't one me or my husband didn't enjoy (Coming back for those bottles on our next visit!) All of the meats are incredibly tender and sauced to perfection, the ribs fall off the bone and the chicken is perfectly breaded and fried. I can use a million different adjectives to describe the meat, but "dry and bland" are NOT two of them. The sides are also very good and the cornbread is out of this world. Firefly's also offers a whiskey bar, brews, and signature cocktails, which we will be trying next time! The owner also showed a lot of true care for his restaurant and his customers, as we had seen him stopping at multiple tables asking customers how their experience was- even stopping at our table. I don't do reviews, I've never found a restaurant that has "wow-ed" me enough to do one. I gave Firefly's what I think is an extensive review, because they absolutely deserve it with the hard work and love they put into the restaurant and their food. It's a blessing we live an hour and a half away, because we would probably find ourselves here every-other-day if we were closer, ITS THAT DAMN GOOD! Make the drive out. Bring the whole family. How did this place receive 4 stars!?!? Granted service was decent kinda slow, but food was just inedible! I ordered the St. Louis ribs. We opted for sauce on the side being that they have their own line of BBQ sauce, we can get and try on our own. Their sauces are delicious. We do highly recommend the Memphis and Dixie kiss BBQ sauce. Our ribs were so dry we had a hard time eating and chewing. The flavors were there, the quality just wasn't! We also ordered the sliced Beed briskets. Again so dry and chewy!! Our teeth hurt from all the rubbery chewing, we gave up on this ruined meal. At least our crazy roo wings were good. It has a nice kick to it. When the server asked if we wanted to take home our meal, it was a resounding no thanks! The most expensive was the meat combos we ordered. And those were the most disappointing aspect of our meal. For a $80 meal for two persons, only 1/3 of it was edible. Will definitely not be returning. read more
