Pretty good bbq along Route 20 in Marlborough. It's been around for a while and I've never tried it. It's well known around the metro Boston area and is often on phantom gourmet and other food shows. Gave it a try a few months back and was impressed. The staff is friendly and attentive and it's a pretty good size and offer valet parking. I gave the kid a $10 thinking he was working solo but when leaving another dude got the car and didn't seem happy I was out of cash. Catch you on the way back next time! We sat at the bar and they were gearing up for some live music that night and when the band got on, it was like a dads garage band playing some classic cover songs. They were good though. The food and drinks were also good. They do a tasty hard Lime Rickey and The fried pickle chips were tasty and served w a delicious aioli sauce. Great start before a feast. I got the pulled pork platter w sides of Mac n cheese and beans w corn bread. Now I didn't order beans bc who wants to be around a guy all night after bbq and beans ? But I forgot what I had ordered but the beans were delicious. As was the Mac n cheese and corn bread. Perfect. The pulled pork was piled high and the sauces were tasty. The pork was well cooked and tasted great. The platter left me in a food coma. The reputation It has was definitely backed up during my trip there. Living in Charlotte, I've come to have an appreciation for barbecue, generally pulled pork or pulled chicken as that's what we're known for in the Carolinas. I've been to Kansas City and I've been to San Antonio, where they're big on ribs and brisket. So when I thought to give a barbecue joint in the Boston suburbs a try, I had very low expectations. What can a New Englander know about cue? Well, I was wrong. This is some good stuff. I had the three meat combo plate: ribs, brisket and smoked turkey. The ribs were meaty and tasty and while not "fall off the bone", the meat was delicious. The brisket was also moist and not an especially "dry" cut. It did need a little bit of the Memphis sauce to kick it up, but not much. And the turkey was excellent. Actually, the turkey was the best of the three. Very juicy, very moist, Cut with a fork sort of stuff. The cornbread was quite good. Dry, but a good consistency that held together well. More like a flat cake. Mac & cheese was only okay. A little glutenous and maybe it should have been hotter. The potato salad was very good with a great consistency and plenty of flavor. Great list of draft and bottled beers, including some local micros and some distant macros. Very good service. Do they know 'cue in Marlborough? Yep. It's the best I've had in the Northeast. Nice batter, good dipping sauce. $15 Rib with 2 sides (greens and cucumber salad) and cornbread. The rib is colder and tougher than expected, but the flavor is sweet with a tiny bit of spice. The cornbread was cold, but it was the end of the day and to be expected. The greens were great, as was the cucumber salad. Good balance of flavors. Not too bitter or tangy. Let me begin this review of Firefly's BBQ with an important piece of advice: do not skip the cornbread. In fact, you might want to order extra cornbread. Or better yet, pitch a tent in the parking lot at Firefly's so you will be better able to access the cornbread when a craving hits (and it will, trust me.) OK, salient advice provided, onto the rest of the review. I'd been wanting to try Firefly's for a while, so I was happy to get the opportunity. With COVID-19 restaurant restrictions still in place, I was very pleased with Firefly's takeout system--I pulled up alongside a young man who asked for my name and then brought my pre-paid order right out to my car, couldn't have been easier. I ordered a combo plate with my go-tos: brisket, pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans, and the order came with the aforementioned killer cornbread. They have a number of different sauces at Firefly's, and I opted to get the North Carolina and the Memphis on the side with my order (no sauce on the meat.) I ate the cornbread first and. . .wow, just. . .wow. It was delicious! I received a very generous piece that was moist and slightly sweet, with a beautiful and decadent buttery glaze on top. It practically melted in my mouth. I was in such a cornbread-induced euphoria that I nearly forgot about the rest of my meal. Nearly. The coleslaw was good. The dressing was pleasant and mild--not too sweet or too tangy--and the cabbage was crisp and not soggy. I would say it was slightly overdressed for my taste, but that's a personal preference. When I turned to the beans, I was surprised to see so many different kinds of beans in the mix. It was very cool to have the different sizes and slightly different texture that came from each bean--it was a nice touch. The downside, though, was the sauce, which had good flavor and was the right thickness (not runny!), but was a little too spicy for my taste. Now, I'm a super spice wimp, so for the average person, I'm sure the spice level wouldn't be an issue. But, if you are spice-averse, I'd opt for a different side (and there were plenty of tasty-sounding sides to choose from.) OK, sides devoured, I moved on to the meat. Both the pulled pork and brisket were cooked perfectly, which was an absolute delight. Most barbecue places I've been to get one meat very right, and the other not so much. I'm pleased to say that both meats were moist and tender, and I could really taste the smokiness in each bite. The pulled pork had a bit of bark mixed in, and the perfect level of saltiness. The brisket was a delicious mix of fat and lean, with enough fat to keep things tender but not so much that it was all gristle. The flavor was exceptional. I'm SO glad I got the sauces on the side because this meat needed nothing to elevate it. I did taste the sauces, just because I was curious, and the North Carolina had a nice tang, with some heat on the finish. The Memphis was sweet and sticky and quite tasty. Also, I must say, the portions of everything were huge. I wanted to order more cornbread, but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to eat any more (and you have to eat it while it's still warm - trust me.) So, the verdict--Firefly's does it right. The meats were extremely well done, the sides were both delicious and innovative (all those different beans!), and cornbread is out-of-this-world good. Add on to that the great service I received, and they've got the whole package. Go. Eat. Enjoy. And, whatever you do, save room for the cornbread. read more

So far, one of the best Southern BBQ places I've been to up here. Why? Well, here's the run-down: 1) They have a wall of hot sauces. It starts with HOT! and goes up four tiers to ass-whumpin' (I'm paraphrasing). There's even one special hot sauce that's encased in glass and requires a waiver before trying (cause you know, death and all). And trust me guys, these hot sauces are the real deal and not meant to be taken lightly. Also, their homemade BBQ sauce is pretty solid, my personal fav is the Beezelbub. 2) The BBQ platters are the best deal of the century. We got the platter for six (we were a party of four) as we wanted the brisket, and the four person combo didn't have that in the set. We figured most BBQ places give such a sparse amount of food, we could handle food for six and take home whatever we didn't finish. Well, let's just say we ended up taking most of the food home. The portions are HUGE and totally worth it. At $100 for the six person platter, despite being four, we paid $25/pp before tax and tip? It was ALMOST like BBQ buffet, except we got to take home lots of food! 3) Oh right, the quality. DAMN GOOD. BBQ ribs fell right off the bones. Fried chicken was perfectly battered, and juicy AF. Brisket and pulled pork was also tender and flavorful. But surprisingly, the star of the show was the cornbread. It was more like corn CAKE. Supes moist, pleasantly sweet, and generously served (slices are enormous). The sides were aite, nothing standout TBH, but I highly recommend the green beans to even out the meat orgy you're served. I came here Sunday for brunch with my bf. I wasn't sure what to expect... This brunch buffet was amazing!! I mean eggs, ribs, buffalo chicken wings and red velvet cake - insanity! Even though it was served buffet style it still had good taste and was up to the good quality Firefly's always serves. The price to me seems very cheap for what they serve - $15.99. We had a party of 5 for dinner last night. We were disappointed that the salad bar went away. Our friend brought over little cups of the sauces for us to try while we were waiting on our waitress to bring our drinks over, which did not take long we got the cucumber salad and fried pickles for our appetizers. We loved them both. The cucumber salad had a light, sweet vinaigrette that was a wonderful complement to the rich meats. The fried pickles were perfect!. Light and crisp "batter" with the exact tang I love in a fried pickle. My only complaint is that there were not enough of them. The bbq was phenomenal, these guys definitely know what they are doing! The sides were delish but as a potato salad junkie, I was disappointed, very bland and it tasted like it was just potato chunks and mayo, The service was great, our waitress took the time to explain each sauce to us and proactively gave us what we need to power through delicious st louis ribs, pulled pork and brisket. The food is generally good but there is an ongoing problem with incorrect take out orders. Ordered the pulled chicken sandwich that is supposed to have lettuce, tomato, onion straws, and Cajun remoulade. I got pulled chicken on a roll. Would not have ordered that. Ordered the pulled pork Mac and cheese and called to make sure there was no Panko on it. It came loaded with panko. The food is expensive. As far as BBQ goes, for Massachusetts, it's good. If you're used to southern BBQ, you'll be disappointed. They're also a bit over priced. We LOVE this place. We've been coming for years. The place has changed, but only for the better - outdoor dining in the warm weather - newly renovated bar area - clean - all safety measures complied with for COVID-19 restrictions. We felt absolutely cared for from the minute we pulled into the parking lot. You are directed by cones and signs on how and where to park your car (lots of snow to navigate, too). Because it was SuperBowl LV weekend, there were plenty of take-out customers in line in their cars, too. Friendly staff - outgoing, making great suggestions. We had Jerry as our waiter. He was good. Perhaps, too good! He talked us into the pastrami ribs, but by the time we were ready to order, they were all gone! How's that for sales (not his fault; just a joke)! Anyway, the owner, Steve, came by two times to see how we were and how we liked our dinners. Now, that's great service. As for our food, we ALWAYS get the jumbo, smoked BBQ wings (not the 5 count - the 10 count!). Those babies came home with us (for the game, of course). We got ribs. We got corn bread. Great sides. Lots of take home tonight because their portions are huge. So, if you are thinking about Sunday BBQ and there's too much snow outside to get to your grill, call this place and go pick it up. I fully appreciate how this restaurant has gone above and beyond protecting us patrons and their own employees. There were so many steps throughout (e.g. hand sanitizer stations, distanced tables, employees stepping to the side as you walk by, touch-less payment at the end) to address the COVID situation. This also means that the hot sauce wall is temporarily out of commission. Reservations are highly recommended, as less tables are in use. The patio is a nice space to eat if the weather is nice out. Upon seating, you can access the menus via QR codes on the table, however that didn't work on our phones so our server gave us paper menus. We started off with the FIREFLY'S WINGS (5), which were very large, perfectly smoked and still juicy. Note that the wings are still joined, rather than separated as wing and drummette, so an order of 5 is equivalent to 10 pieces. The accompanying side ranch and hot sauces were delicious. For our mains, we had the BRISKET platter + FRIES & ROASTED CORN, and the full slab of BABY BACK RIBS + COLLARD GREENS & MAC N' CHEESE. Both platters came with a hearty portion of corn bread, which had a phenomenal corny taste and perfectly crisp bottom. The brisket, which sat upon toast, was tender and juicy. I was a tad bit overambitious because ordering a full slab is a ton of food. The ribs were fall-off-bone tender. The mac n' cheese was gooey with cheese, and the collars greens had a good tang with bits of meat sprinkled throughout. We couldn't decide which BBQ sauce to have, so our server brought out all 5 options. Our favorites were the Memphis and Texas sauces. We tried to use a phantom gourmet gift card, but our server said their machine was unfortunately down. This was my first time back in over 8 years, but am glad to see that the food is still good (if not better) and service top notch. I've been craving real Southern Style BBQ for a long time after going to a great place in Dallas and to find out this place was so close to where I lived had me really excited. Me and a friend got the Texas Beef Brisket Platter and the Southern Fried Chicken platter and shared. Beef Brisket - Super tender, you can't even pick it up with a fork because it'll just fall apart. It didn't really have much of a bark on the edges but it tasted fine. Underneath the prices of brisket there's 2 prices of white bread that just soak up all the beef juices and end up being the most delicious part of the platter. I was disappointed with how small the pieces ended up being. I got 6 pieces but 3 of them ended up being tiny. Fried Chicken - Decent fried chicken, not too oily and juicy enough. It comes with a delicious artery clogging buttermilk gravy that I wish I could bathe in. The cornbread we got was dense and moist but it was so cold! It was like somebody just took it out of the fridge. If that cornbread was warmed, the combination of it with the buttermilk gravely would've added a star to this review by itself. For the sides we got mac and cheese, coleslaw, red beans and rice, and sweet potato fries which were all good. We tried a couple of the BBQ sauces and my favorite ended up being the North Carolina, I thought the vinegar-iness helps cut through the fattyness of the meats. Service was good, and other than the small portion of brisket I got and the cold cornbread, I had a decent dining experience. But after the rave reviews I read about this place, I felt kind of unsatisfied with my meal. Maybe it was an off night. I'll definitely come back to give it another shot. read more
