I went to Firefly's yesterday after work with 29 of my co-workers to bid a fellow employee farewell. First off the new Patio is AMAZING. Beautifully decorated, furniture very comfortable and even an area to play "corn hole" bean bag game. The food was amazing, but more than all of the that, the wait staff was professional, warm, friendly, continually checking in to make sure everyone was happy, well fed, and had drinks in our hands at all time. We have been working with Steve at fireflys for many years, and since we usually go there in the morning, way before opening, we have only enjoyed the delightful aromas, but never the dining experience.... until last night... Firstly, the service from greeting, seating ,ordering and serving was fantastic, as was the food..but the most significant impression was the amazingly quick action of the staff ,especially April ,when another diner near us was choking and actually lost consciousness..As we found out later the staff is fully trained for situations like that and April basically saved this womans life.. I'm new to the Marlborough area and so glad to have a place like Firefly's nearby! Ive been there a few times now and when it's good, its sooooo good! In my experience the weekend is best, though more crowded, I think because they make more so they are fresh and tender. During the week its been a bit spotty. The St. Louis ribs are amazing - juicy and meaty. The cornbread and sweet potato pudding is also so decadent. The decor is cozy and the patio is nice on warm days. Simply amazing. I was recently taken out to fireflys in Marlborough for my birthday. I am not one who usally enjoys BBQ but i must say the food and service was excellent. Our server Samantha was extremley attentive and was more then happy to answer the thousands of questions we had about the menu. I ordered the steak tacos as an entree and we all split a pizza as an appetizer. The tacos were fantastic, and im pleasently suprised to say the Royale with cheese pizza was out of this world. After dinner we wanted to play pool in their back room called "Dantes". The front desk informed us that a band was playing that night and it would be cheaper to buy tickets to the show opposed to paying for the hourly pool rate, at that point i was hooked. We've been going there as a family for as long as their doors have been open. Just prior to leaving after a fantastic meal and experience, I let them know "it gets better every time!" Poorly trained waitstaff, exceptionally lengthy waits for food (even when the dining room has been slow) and a very rude manager. We won't return. Too many good places to get barbecue to waste our time with such a disappointing place. read more

My first time and I definitely would go back. I had the pulled chicken with the brisket and both were really good. I really enjoyed the table with all the different barbecue sauces. Rrrreally good. We love BBQ and often stop here on the way back from day-trips from Boston. (Actually, sometimes we may subconsciously choose destinations that are past it, so we'll have an excuse to eat here.) Have had Firefly's about 10 times now, if you include the BBQ festivals at Wachusett Mountain and Boston. At the restaurant, we have had most of the appetizers by now, and for dinner I always have beef brisket and Memphis sauce. We went to Fireflies on a Saturday night, right before the drive in movies in Mendon, MA. It was a little busy, so we decided to sit outside for no wait. Eating outside was equally enjoyable as eating inside, even on a hot summer day. My dad, who enjoys beer very much, liked the selection. The St. Louis ribs and pulled chicken sandwich were delicious. They had a great selection of side dishes. Our favorite was the cucumber salad, which is complementary. The wait staff was proficient, but nothing out of the ordinary. They had valet parking, which made us wait only a short time at the end of our dinner. Overall, the food and experience was good, and we would go back again. read more

My wife and I are celebrating our anniversary and her birthday over the past 4 days. We have been to 3 restaurants, Wayside Inn, Outback and Fireflys. By far the best service we have received was at Fireflys. VERY friendly staff (Andrea was great!) and attentive manager and owner. This review is for fans of both food and live music. Firefly's is kind of a surprising gem in the suburbs. They've got a really nice music room (called Dante's) which is half tables/chairs and half pool tables, a real stage and a pro sound system. Nice, busy, friendly atmosphere. I ordered ribs (excellent) and tasted a bit of what my friends ordered - some pepperoni pizza (nice soft crust and pretty good) and pulled pork (awesome, soft, not overly sweet). When the band came on I was surprised by the very good sound quality. Clear, not overly loud, professionally mixed. Outside of Boston the music venues always miss on one the essentials (food, atmosphere, sound quality, sight lines, band quality, something!), but this was comfortable and tops with an outstanding post-Beatles-solo tribute -- not the usual dime-a-dozen rock or top-40 cover act. Who knew this place was out there? Definitely worth a trip as a live-music destination if there's a band to see. read more

Brisket was good, while the pulled pork was completely lacking in flavor on its own. Bbq beans lacked any bbq taste, easily fixed with a trip to sauce bar. We have been eating at Firefly's since my kids were quite small. They have a great kids menu. My kids are all grown now. We find that eating out with the whole family at most restaurants is expensive and often disappointing. At Firefly's, the portions are large, the prices are low and the service is exceptional. Been searching for fried chicken that doesn't come from a large chain restaurant. Have not found nirvana in the recommended joints all around Boston till I tried Firefly's whole fried chichen. Eight pieces of buttermilk battered chicken we're moist with just the right amount of crust. At $14, you'll get a lot more flavor and chicken for your money. Last Saturday after taking my nephews to the Monster Jam Truck Rally, but brother suggested we go to Firefly's for dinner. I was excited because I haven't made it down there yet, and have always heard such amazing reviews. We arrived at about 4pm with a party of 8. We didn't have a reservation, but the friendly hostess was able to accommodate us in just a minute or two. Within the time it took to figure out what we wanted, this place was starting to get packed. I now understand why. We shared 3 different appetizers. We got Cracklin Bread, nachos, and Burnt Ends. Generally on my second visit to a restaurant, I would try never to order the same things again, however that could be hard here. We loved every bit of it... even my 4 nephews (ages 5 - 10) who are the pickiest eaters I know. The Burnt Ends were bar far one of the best things I have ever tasted in my entire life. My 6 year old nephew slapped his head in complete amazement and didn't want to swallow because he didn't ever want the flavor to end! For entrees, three of the kids got waffle with smile fries and a cookie. All enjoyed it. My 8 year old nephew got the kids rib plate. The first ribs he has ever had. He said it was the best thing he ever eaten. My sister in law had to explain to him that Firefly's ribs weren't like other ribs... and that he shouldn't expect something this great every time he orders them elsewhere closer to home. My mother got a burger, I don't exactly remember which one she got, or what she put on it, but she ALWAYS gets a burger. It is her "go to" whenever she is out. I guess it was a good sign when she took a bite, and immediately cut it in half so she could bring half home to my father. She wanted to prove to him how good the burger was, so he would bring her back soon. My brother and sister in-law got a 3 Meat Combo to split. They got pulled pork, ribs, and chorizo sausage. I don't remember which sides they chose, but they polished off their plate. My sister in-law, for as long as I have known her, has refused to eat ribs anywhere but one place close to her house. However, after Steve the owner stopped by the table to see how the appetizers were, he explained the lengthy smoking process that most restaurants don't have the ability to do, and to serve them fresh...not reheated. He convinced her. She now has a new favorite, and Im sure she will be taking my rib loving nephew back very soon. I had the Steve's BBQ Sampler. I got the ribs with memphis bbq sauce, and the brisket. I got mac and cheese, and jalapeño cheddar corn bread for my sides. Well after I have stuffed myself with appetizers, I immediately put half of my meal in a take out box to enjoy at home later. The ribs were amazing. Not a sign of meet left on the bone. It fell right off. The brisket. Oh the brisket. I am sort of a brisket snob because I used to work in a Jewish Style Deli/Restaurant. Un-freakin-believeable. I ate my left overs for breakfast! I woke up at 4am and had to stop myself from going to the fridge for a snack! Id be remised if I didn't mention Matty our server. Ive worked in restaurant my entire life. No server ever really wants to start out their Saturday evening with a table that includes four children. He was GREAT! He spoke to the kids directly instead of ordering through their parents, and was having conversations about hockey, and the monster trucks they had just seen. Servers often forget that children are people too. How else are they supposed to learn how to act in a restaurant if they aren't not treated with the same regard as their parents? I went with my family this past weekend and the food was unbelievable. It was our first time there and we were pleasantly pleased. We started out with the Roo Wings which were delicious. Just the right amount of sweet and spicy. I got the 1/2 Bbq chicken, my husband got ribs and my daughter enjoyed the mac and cheese. Everything was very tasty. Our server Rose was very friendly and accommodating. We love the fact that she drew a Rose on the paper bag for us. We thought that was really cute. My wife and I visit Firefly's regularly. Everything from the hostess and waitstaff, to the quality of food is first rate. We've never had a bad meal or a bad experience there, whether we've eaten in the restaurant, the bar, or in Dante's (the live music club). Menu selections are great, portions are definitely generous (if you leave there hungry it's your own fault.), and the bar does make great drinks. Beer list is better than most places (Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale to Corona), and the atmosphere is family-friendly. What more could you want? read more

I have been a few times recently, and the service has gone down dramatically. I dont know if its poor managment or what. I used to be treated like a great customer, and now it seems we have to wait to get a drink.. then forever for our meals. We actually had our rehersal dinner there years ago in their function room as it was a great middle point for everyone. everyone loved the food and i told everyone to go their for a great meal and service.. I tend to now not recommend anymore. Hire better staff i say...or re train them on customer service. read more

We were recommended this restaurant from a visit to Vin Bin in marlboro yet I do not know why. The service in the bar was ok, but that is the most I can say for our visit. The wait staff didn't seem engaged with us as you would expect in a restaurant. The food was dry and not very delicious which, for a $50 tab that included an appetizer, a burger and 2 beers, was disappointing. We may be visiting from out of state, but we won't be recommending to any of our family who live here. On the contrary, we will caution against it. read more
