First time here after I received a gift card from my wedding. I was so excited because of all the yelp reviews. Unfortunately my husband and I didn't enjoy it. We ordered the nachos to start off and the fire fly chicken. Fire fly chicken was good but burnt. I had to peel the skin to eat the chicken. Nachos- maybe I was the last person to order for the night but there was barely any cheese and tomatoes. It was endless amount of chips with a scoop of meat. Me and my husband was literally scraping the dish for cheese and anything to go with the chips. And I love nachos!!! My Husband ordered a margarita and it was with the jalapeño and hated it -everyone taste is different. Our waitress was very sweet but not attentive. Overall by the time we wanted to order main dishes we were so disappointed with the drink and appetizers that we left still hungry and our table still full of drinks and food. I don't like to complain so I paid for my food and gave the girl a 40% tip. I only write reviews to share my experiences. read more

This place has the best ribs. Baby back ribs and one of the only place around I was able to get beef ribs. Highly recommend this place for BBQ. Also family/kid friendly!! read more

We had Fireflys deliver and setup food for my sons first communion. It was awesome. The employee who brought the food set everything up and was fantastic. We got rave responses to the food. We've been eating there for years and loved it but you never know what people will say, and i can tell you to a person, everyone loved the food, pulled pork and chicken, cucumber salad it was all five stars!! read more

My friend and I went to Firefly's on a Friday night. I'd never heard of it, but I knew one of the guys in the band playing at Dante's. As suggested, I made a reservation for 2. We arrived on time, and was treated to a table for two about the size of a greeting card. Of course there were bigger, better positioned empty tables just yawning for patrons, but the waitress informed me they were taken. She was right- they were taken by other parties of two who arrived later. Quelling my unfortunate tendency to be an angry idiot, we settled in. I ordered the fried chicken. I really liked it. The food came out quick. In fact, almost a little TOO quick, like it was sitting around waiting to be ordered. The sides were a little shaky, and my buddy's ribs were embarassingly mediocre if you call yourself a BBQ place. I did enjoy the pool tables though. Excellent cues and good smooth table. Free, too. Our waitress was extremely attentive, except at the end, when we wanted to go and she kept us waiting forever. So I am going with 3 stars. I think your mileage could vary in a place like this. read more

Get your wallet out and make sure you've got some dough to cover your loss here - it's pricey. That said, it can be very good. I've had a few experiences here that range from decent to blah. The Marlborough Fireflies is the one to hit up - stay away from the one in the HAM, it's an old Applebees and still feels (and tastes) like it. There's a LOT of great write up's about this place, but it's really not all that it's cracked up to be. For me to say that the BBQ Chicken is the best thing about this place says a lot (and I'm saying that!) Great musical acts on weekends and the BBQ Chicken make it even more enjoyable. read more

Firefly's is among the best BBQ I have ever had (including Texas, St. Louis, etc.) The wings are beyond good with a smokey flavor I have never tasted before. We live about 40 miles away but the trip is worth it! My daughter can't get enough of the chicken and waffles! Great food and service! read more

I love this place have been here a handful of times - the food is delicious and has a fun atmosphere - have gone to the sunday buffet twice and loved it - typical buffet style but barbeque city! Cornbread is delicious. Have gotten the Jamaican jerk chicken - sweet and spicy read more

We went to Firefly's last night and we all had a fantastic meal! We had the burnt ends for appetizer and the bacon - unbelievable. Then we had baby back ribs - roasted corn on the cob and the sweet potato casserole - out of this world. We will be back again soon! read more

The food was tasty, hot and the service was excellent! A great family friendly environment.

I've been coming here for a number of years and have never been disappointed. This restaurant provides what is by definition comfort food. I've always left feeling better having indulged in a place of BBQ ribs or chicken with some delicious sides they offer. It's a place to spend time with friends and enjoy a meal without worrying about calories or fat content. The serves are friendly and welcoming. The prices seem reasonable. I'm definitely a fan and hope for some bad days in the coming weeks so I can lament over a big plate of BBQ! Keep up the good work! read more

Execellent service today by Alex. My daughter has a dairy allergy and Alex was very knowledgeable about the menu and accomodating with our "tweaks". Made our experience very relaxing. Food was a little overcooked today but I heard that is not the norm. They are looking for help in the kitchen so maybe thats why food was off today. Do yourself a favor and try the candy bacon appetizer though.. Nothing wrong with that today!! read more

We love this restaurant. It is consistently delicious. They are amazing at handling crowds. Last week we flew in with a small group including a toddler who is a "spirited". Madeline, our waitress, got us all fed, including the toddler, before the meltdown! She was amazing and as always, the food fantastic. Also a good place to go if you have allergies - in all the years we've gone, they have been super careful. read more

Great BBQ and Mac & Cheese. Sat on the patio "the Backyard" that open recently. Nice atmosphere and live music on Saturday night. My kids love the food. read more

Its literally been a billion years since I had fried chicken this good. The main thing is that the meat was moist and the outside crust was crispy. Thats all you have to do if you want to be perfect chicken. Fireflys is actually a great place. My mother told me it once used to be a chinese food restaurant believe it or not. When I walked into the door I physically felt like I was really in the southern regions of the united states. I have never seen so many hot sources!!! Some of them were mild but some were so hot. I tried one on a baby corn and it burnt my lips. Glad I had milk. I did like those sweet pickles though. They tasted like halloween candy. For my man meal I got the fried chicken dinner. You can get honey sauce or white sauce for topping. I choose white and it was pretty delicious. For my side I made a big mistake. I got colored greens and steamed rice. I probably should have got the mac and cheese or sweet potato pudding. That actually sounded way better. My belly was so full when I left because they give you a lot of heavy food. The waitress was really awesome to. I actually dreamed about her that night because she was so nice to me. I will come many times in the future! read more

Went out for BBQ last night and the only single word I could explain our entire experience there is AWESOME!!! From the staff meeting us and the owner Steve greeting us before we even sat down gave a friendly, warm, and exciting welcome before we even sat down. Our server Liz was super friendly and extremely helpful in pointing us into the right food combo that we were looking in a party of 5. The St. Louis ribs were definitely a must have. The pork was tender with a little give and fell off the bone. The BBQ sauces were extensive. Memphis was a favorite and all others were good with a different kind of flare. Reservations on weekend nights highly recommended. An extremely long line just waiting to get to the awesome BBQ was out the door on a cold rainy Friday night. Can't wait to go back again. Only thing I regret is not taking pictures of the food because I wanted to dig in. Triple F out read more

Absolutely amazing, best BBQ I've ever had in my life, and I have had my fill of BBQ. For $21 I got three ribs, two massive pieces of fried chicken, 5oz of pulled pork, a large portion of mashed potatoes, a large portion of mac and cheese, and some corn bread to top it off. Amazing food, amazing prices, keep up the good work Steve. read more

Great Place to Chill! The Food is tasty and the ribs are out of this world. Great sauce options. I wish they had delivery!

Firefly's is great. The food is out of this world. The wait staff is always courteous, and the atmosphere is the right mix between southern culture and Massachusetts. Downfall is the hours of operation. They're not open for lunch service on week days. read more

This place has fallen considerably in my opinion. To begin the quality has plummeted, food drenched in sauce or over powered by smoke that you could be eating a cow pie and not even know it. Quality is a problem in the New England region as no one here seems to know what good food is suppose to taste like. If its not deep fried or smothered in tartar sauce or made from ingredients out of a can their expressions go all blank because their taste buds cant identify what they are eating. They use to have a number of locations and a tasty lunch buffet but that has all gone because people have either developed taste or found more convenient troughs to stick their snouts in, my guess is the latter. The fact that they have closed locations and are no longer open for lunch during the week is proof their business has fallen off regardless what the "faux/fake" reviews say. Come on, make a reservation, you have got to be kidding, I would rather make a reservation for a colonoscopy than dine here. Speaking of colonoscopy the last and final time I ate here I spent an afternoon in the bathroom, I thought an alien was trying to make its way through my digestive tract. Down the street from this location are a number of Brazilian restaurants which are excellent for anyone who considers themselves a true carnivore or a Chinese buffet which is not bad and a far cry better than the Fly. read more

My wildly handsome man friend and I went on date night to the Firefly. It was both our first trip to the venue and let me tell you, you did not disappoint! The atmosphere was easily the most relaxing environment, after a long day, need I ask for more!? Apparently you heard my prayers and had the most delightful service that I've had in all my time. Not only was our waitress, Julianna, warming, helpful and had a vast knowledge of the menu, she had fantastic banter to help guide us through the menu and our more than average experience. She was heartwarming and gave us space when we needed it but was more than willing to add to the flare when least expected. She had us laughing and smiling and giving us the full satisfaction that we were looking for. Five stars all around we were just so sad that we couldn't grab a SWAT tee because it seems like something that Tom Brady would acquire and I want to be part of that lifestyle. read more

We went to Firefly's in Marlborough, Mass for dinner. We started out by ordering a "Horny Rita" (which is now our favorite drink). The Horny Rita has jalapeno and cucumber and a well balanced drink not like the watered down version most places serve. We had a conversation with a man who asked how our drinks were and we found out he was the owner "Steve".The menu has something for everyone! The apps we ordered were "Crazy Roo's wings", Southern pork mac and cheese" and a shrimp and garlic pizza. All were outstanding and at a very reasonable price. We asked "Steve" about the Seafood on the menu and he explained it comes fresh from Boston every Tuesday and Friday. We questioned seafood at a BBQ place but after trying their crab cake... Bam! It was the best crab cake we ever had and all three at our table agreed. Our son who frequents Maryland said Firefly's crab cakes beat the Maryland crab cake hands down! This is the most relaxed family friendly place around and all the employees make you feel right at home..Firefly's has a taste for everyone! A true gem that we will return to over and over again. Thanks Steve for a great dinner! Check out their menu at www.fireflysbbq.com read more

I'm not sure if Firefly's changed their chef or what but I had the worst baby back ribs of my life there today. I got them for take out and they were extremely dry and so tough you couldn't even get them off the bone. It seems as if they put them in a microwave. They were just inedible. In addition, the mashed sweet potatoes were waaaaay too sweet and the pita that came with my fiance's salad was waaaay too salty. It's a shame because we used to really like this place. read more

3 stars for everyday BBQ but but 4.5 stars for the Sunday brunch. It's delicious and lots of options (especially if you partied on Saturday night) :) read more

The best thing they had going for them was the allergy friendly menu. The food is average, nothing special, but not bad either. The staff is friendly, attentive and accommodating. The portions are large &a the kids menu is a bargain making this a family friendly restaurant. read more

I'm new to the Marlborough area and so glad to have a place like Firefly's nearby! Ive been there a few times now and when it's good, its sooooo good! In my experience the weekend is best, though more crowded, I think because they make more so they are fresh and tender. During the week its been a bit spotty. The St. Louis ribs are amazing - juicy and meaty. The cornbread and sweet potato pudding is also so decadent. The decor is cozy and the patio is nice on warm days. Definitely going to be back. read more

Simply amazing. I was recently taken out to fireflys in Marlborough for my birthday. I am not one who usally enjoys BBQ but i must say the food and service was excellent. Our server Samantha was extremley attentive and was more then happy to answer the thousands of questions we had about the menu. I ordered the steak tacos as an entree and we all split a pizza as an appetizer. The tacos were fantastic, and im pleasently suprised to say the Royale with cheese pizza was out of this world. After dinner we wanted to play pool in their back room called "Dantes". The front desk informed us that a band was playing that night and it would be cheaper to buy tickets to the show opposed to paying for the hourly pool rate, at that point i was hooked. Pool, live music, delicious food, and great service... you can not go wrong with this restaurant. read more

We've been going there as a family for as long as their doors have been open. Just prior to leaving after a fantastic meal and experience, I let them know "it gets better every time!" The food, service, staff, and atmosphere are top notch for dinner for 2, the entire family, and larger gathering. Thank goodness for reservations and call ahead as the weekends have been busy. The addition of entertainment has been the perfect reason for us 40+ crowd to stay beyond dinner! read more

We have gone to Firefily's a few times and while the food has been good, the service has been terrible. Poorly trained waitstaff, exceptionally lengthy waits for food (even when the dining room has been slow) and a very rude manager. We won't return. Too many good places to get barbecue to waste our time with such a disappointing place. read more

My first time and I definitely would go back. I had the pulled chicken with the brisket and both were really good. I really enjoyed the table with all the different barbecue sauces. The meal also had two sides to choose. I had the dirty rice and beans and collard greens and both were very good. read more

Excellent St. Louis ribs. The crab cake appetizer was great. Several different BBQ sauces, all very interesting. Pleasant, casual atmosphere. The sweet potato pecan pudding is a must as one of the sides. Large desserts. Reasonably priced. We've eaten there many times, even though it is a bit of a trip to get there from Somerville. read more

Rrrreally good. We love BBQ and often stop here on the way back from day-trips from Boston. (Actually, sometimes we may subconsciously choose destinations that are past it, so we'll have an excuse to eat here.) Have had Firefly's about 10 times now, if you include the BBQ festivals at Wachusett Mountain and Boston. At the restaurant, we have had most of the appetizers by now, and for dinner I always have beef brisket and Memphis sauce. Love the atmosphere; portions have always been good, food has always been great. read more

We went to Fireflies on a Saturday night, right before the drive in movies in Mendon, MA. It was a little busy, so we decided to sit outside for no wait. Eating outside was equally enjoyable as eating inside, even on a hot summer day. My dad, who enjoys beer very much, liked the selection. The St. Louis ribs and pulled chicken sandwich were delicious. They had a great selection of side dishes. Our favorite was the cucumber salad, which is complementary. The wait staff was proficient, but nothing out of the ordinary. They had valet parking, which made us wait only a short time at the end of our dinner. Overall, the food and experience was good, and we would go back again. read more

My wife and I are celebrating our anniversary and her birthday over the past 4 days. We have been to 3 restaurants, Wayside Inn, Outback and Fireflys. By far the best service we have received was at Fireflys. VERY friendly staff (Andrea was great!) and attentive manager and owner. By the way, the food is excellent, especially the cucumber salad and pecan sweet potatoes, more than ample portions . We'll be there for my birthday too! read more

Enjoyed my dinner there! The food was spot on perfect as always and the staff was friendly and helpful. Even managed to catch site of one of the Andelman brothers of Phantom Gourmet enjoying the food. Also enjoyed meeting Steve Uliss!! Can not wait for our next return. read more

This review is for fans of both food and live music. Firefly's is kind of a surprising gem in the suburbs. They've got a really nice music room (called Dante's) which is half tables/chairs and half pool tables, a real stage and a pro sound system. Nice, busy, friendly atmosphere. I ordered ribs (excellent) and tasted a bit of what my friends ordered - some pepperoni pizza (nice soft crust and pretty good) and pulled pork (awesome, soft, not overly sweet). When the band came on I was surprised by the very good sound quality. Clear, not overly loud, professionally mixed. Outside of Boston the music venues always miss on one the essentials (food, atmosphere, sound quality, sight lines, band quality, something!), but this was comfortable and tops with an outstanding post-Beatles-solo tribute -- not the usual dime-a-dozen rock or top-40 cover act. Who knew this place was out there? Definitely worth a trip as a live-music destination if there's a band to see. read more

Went for weekend lunch. Nice free pickled condiment bar, would have liked some pretzels to try sauces before ordering. Good portions for lunch. Brisket was good, while the pulled pork was completely lacking in flavor on its own. Bbq beans lacked any bbq taste, easily fixed with a trip to sauce bar. Thanksgiving sandwich had turkey which was on the dry side. Desserts were huge and delicious. read more

This place was great and the food was also amazing! We got a variety of barbeque sauces and loved them all! Our server was very friendly which only added to our experience. I will definitely be returning! read more

We have been eating at Firefly's since my kids were quite small. They have a great kids menu. My kids are all grown now. We find that eating out with the whole family at most restaurants is expensive and often disappointing. At Firefly's, the portions are large, the prices are low and the service is exceptional. As a bonus, the place is very clean with cool blues music playing in the background. read more

My husband and I have only had ribs at Firefly's, so that's all I can rate, but they are so good! They are consistently good and the sauces are tasty. The cornbread is great, the homemade chips are good, and the rack of ribs meal is convenient for carry out. We will definitely be back! read more

Been searching for fried chicken that doesn't come from a large chain restaurant. Have not found nirvana in the recommended joints all around Boston till I tried Firefly's whole fried chichen. Eight pieces of buttermilk battered chicken we're moist with just the right amount of crust. At $14, you'll get a lot more flavor and chicken for your money. Enough to feed 3 adults with an order of 2 extra sides. Pickles were a hit with the kids. read more
