I waited and brought it up again and was met with visible annoyance. Another staff member eventually mentioned that employees use a sink in the kitchen. I asked if I could use it. Shortly after, soap appeared in the bathroom with no acknowledgment or apology. What concerns me most is this: if the customer-facing restroom had no soap during the dinner rush, and the response to being asked about it was irritation rather than urgency, what does that say about how handwashing is handled behind the scenes? I'm not looking for perfection. I'm looking for basic food safety protocol to be taken seriously. I didn't see that here.

D'Jan's: Sudden bad food quality, and I was insulted when picking up…read more The food used to be so wonderful at D'Jan's in the past. Delicious flavors, service quick and excellent. But on a recent Sunday, my husband ordered from D'jan's via voice. He ordered three entrées, a side of fried rice, and three sticky rice desserts. Since I was already on the road after picking up our kid, I said I would also pick up the food on our way back. D'Jan's said it would be ready in 25 to 35 minutes. That was a longer timeframe than in the past, but I didn't think anything of it at the time. We arrived at the restaurant, and continued to wait for our to-go order. The dining room was empty, except for one guy drinking tea. A couple of delivery drivers picked up food too, but no one other than that. Nearly an hour after the order went in, the silver-haired man working behind the counter apologized for the long wait. Because, he said, there were "so many items in the order" (really? Three entrees, fried rice, and sticky rice?). Then our food came out, and he asked if we wanted any utensils. I asked for chopsticks. He gave me a weird sort of smirk, and said, "how many? Five?" Allow me to insert here that I'm female, over 50, and yes, I'm overweight. The health insurance I can barely afford doesn't cover GLP-1, and I can't afford to pay for it out-of-pocket. I put on extra weight WFH during and after Covid, and haven't been able to lose it, despite exercising regularly, watching portions, and obsessing over calories. Also, what we usually do with such a take-out food order is eat 1/3 of the meal, then get two more subsequent meals from the leftovers. But I hardly think that my physique or order size deserves such a thinly veiled insult. To a paying customer, no less. And before anyone says so, no, I didn't mis-read it. I've seen that look before, and I know very well what it means. Even our daughter noticed it. Thanks for the ice-cold public social example, mister--nothing like starting the cultural pressure and body-shaming examples early in life for my kid. He looked even more amused (like he'd gotten away with something), and came back with five packaged sets of chopsticks. Now, of course, one cannot know what another person is thinking, unless one can read minds. One can only observe a person's actions and listen to spoken words. Here, the smirks and comments strongly implied a great deal. When I got home, I discovered that there were only two sticky rice servings in the bag, not three. But we were charged for three. And yes, before the food came out at the restaurant, I paid and tipped generously on the total amount, with sales tax--I always do. I know I should have checked the order contents at the restaurant. But in the past, I'd had no need to. And to top it all off, the formerly delicious food from D'jan's was bland and flavorless. There was an unpleasant, dirty fryer taste to the Sweet and Sour Chicken that our daughter ordered. The pineapple fried rice smelled like feet, tasted terrible, and was missing some of the usual ingredients (like green onions, a few tomatoes, and fresh cucumber slices). This experience broke my heart, because we used to love D'jan's, and were loyal repeat customers. In the past, the food was delicious, and the service was fast and friendly. But after this sad, cruel, and not-getting-what-we-paid-for experience, we won't be back.

Everything was amazing. Truly! The cucumber salad was flavored well, and so was the bok choy! The bok choy is a big order so maybe only get if you have 3+ people sharing - we had a lot left over.
