I booked Firebirds for a surprise on my boyfriend's birthday. You will need to be sure to rest the night before, pickup is 5 am. Our first attempt unfortunately was set back due to wind direction. Having a pilot who takes safety seriously was great. Rollie, the pilot was so kind he let us choose any of his next flight dates to make up for not flying the 1st reservation.. Big thing for us was just 3 of us went up in the basket, and the crew member on the ground kept in contact through the ride. Beautiful day, great company. I give these guys a 10 out of 10. Terrific experience! It was our first hot air balloon ride and the experience was better then we expected. The guide was great, very experience pilot. He explained to us the piloting credentials and his extensive experience ballooning. He explained the process as we sailed up and around upper Scottsdale and had some great jokes too. The other balloons in the distance gave us perception on how high/low we were soaring and it was fun to be with the other balloons. We saw wildlife below, an added bonus. Our original day (sunset) was pushed to the next day due to high winds. The morning is better as there is less chance of the winds picking up. The lady was super nice and explained our options. So we came back the next morning (sunrise). At first I was weary of being with other people as I wanted to experience it with a smaller group. Our basket had about 12 people - but we are all separated into little compartments in the basket. I'm here to tell you it's ok to be with a larger group - it was fun to see other people reactions and impressions and for now on I will go with a group this size. I think it would be boring otherwise! Be prepared for a chilling morning.... you really don't think about it when your so close to heaven but it is cold in the morning and at the higher elevation. When we landed they prepared a champagne / mimosa / orange juice toast. That gave us a change to chat with the other people which was nice, while they packed up the gear. It was relatively quick considering the amount that needed to be transferred back to base. I highly recommend this Firebirds! read more

Took my girlfriend on a ride with Firebird Balloons for her birthday and had an amazing time! Pilot was super personable and made the trip fun! What I liked about Firebird specifically was the fact that they had a smaller basket capacity compared to other companies I looked into. It was just my girlfriend, the pilot and I on the flight. My husband and I flew with Rollie and John, and couldn't have asked for a better experience! It's a given that any company is going to be experienced, but the passion these guys have for what they do really made this a memorable experience. We heard some great stories, flew for over an hour, and they were happy to tell us as much as we wanted to know about hot air ballooning, to let us get involved with the process, and to answer all of my stupid questions (Is aggressive ballooning a thing? Have you ever landed on a cactus?). We flew in a four person basket, and the small group size made for such a relaxing and serene trip. My love and I flew with Rollie on Friday, October 28th. The pilot was very knowledgeable and the flight itself was beautiful; however from the landing to the "breakfast" to packing the balloon for transport was very disappointing. We understand than landings can be rough, but the basket was dragged over 200 feet with multiple touches to the ground, bouncing up and finally landing with the basket tipping over. There was no acknowledgement the landing was so rough. The balloon landed over a tree and we were asked to help remove it. Again, not a problem, but we both got very dirty and were given a snippy "thanks." Onto breakfast which consisted of cheap pre-packed muffins and granola bars, cheap champagne and juice. My love and I are both still sore from the landing - my lower back and his shoulder and a brand new shirt was ruined. We left a generous tip which in retrospect I wish I hadn't, though I think I was dumbfounded how things went overall. Very unfortunate experience:( read more

A last minute trip to Arizona seemed like an opportunity to check off an item that's been on my bucket-list, namely a flight in a hot air balloon. :) My journey started with a call to "2FLYUS" who was fully booked. They referred us to Apex with whom we originally planned to fly the morning after our arrival in Phoenix. However, I ended up losing my bag with my laptop computer upon arrival at the airport and spent the wee hours of the morning trying to locate it. This caused us to be late for our appointment with APEX. They did everything they could to make our situation less stressful while at the same time taking care of their other customers who had arrived on time. They did this by calling in Rollie from Firebird Balloons. The net result was an absolutely wonderfully relaxing and gorgeous private flight over the Arizona desert with Firebird Balloons. We couldn't have been happier. They got us involved with setting up the balloon and answered many questions. The flight itself was amazing. We started out by flying high and getting a real bird's eye view of the landscape. Then they reversed course by dropping low to catch an air current that returned us to a location near our point of departure. This was absolutely wonderful as we were able to get a close-up view of the desert while hovering comfortably just above. After the flight, we were treated to a balloonist prayer, Champaign, History of Ballooning, and great company while the balloon was stowed for the trip back to the car. Needless to say, we have a whole lot of pictures and memories that will lift my spirits and supply me with stories for years to come. Thanks, Rollie, to you and yours for such a great time and incredibly friendly service. And notable mention to Apex and 2FlyUs who made sure we were taken care of.
