One of my bucket list items was to ride in a hot air balloon, and for my recent birthday, my husband surprised me with this epic adventure! We met the team early on a Saturday morning, and I couldn't believe that we were going in a small basket. I almost jumped in the van with the 15+ group, but instead it was basically a private ride - just Kevin, his niece, his wife, and the two of us. (The other two were helpful when we landed, not to mention photos. Kevin's wife is an expert at getting the best photos. She took the rising sun shot of me that is no doubt the best photo ever taken involving me!) Kevin is a seasoned pro, and the trip showed. We went up high, where we could see the mountains by Flagstaff, the mountains by Tucson, and everything that lay in between. But then, being a smaller, more maneuverable balloon, we were able to skim along the desert hills. We soared just over the tips of the saguaro cacti, and Kevin told us all about the desert flora and fauna. We saw several jackrabbits and even a coyote. This is not the experience you get in the larger balloons, and it's absolutely magical! We eventually landed in the middle of a housing community, which brought a crowd of interested onlookers, but the chase team showed up quickly to load up the balloon while we heard the tale of the first balloonists and then drank a champagne toast to the rising sun while we listened to the Balloonist's Prayer. It was truly a special event, and it did not disappoint in any way. It is hard to live up to something you've always dreamed of doing, but somehow Kevin and his team made it all that and then some. read more

My wife and I have had the opportunity to ride in a hot air balloon a couple of time before out in California wine country and really enjoyed it so when we were looking for something special to do on valentines day this caught my eye especially since Kevin offers a sunset flight (all our other flights were sunrise, crack of dawn affairs where you have to get up at 4 am!) What makes this company a standout is that it is small-just one guy, Kevin, and he only takes 4 people per trip which is so much nicer than the other flights we've been on with 12 or 16. Kevin is the best host and he's got great stories to tell having flown balloons for over 30 years all over the world (be sure to ask him about Curt Russel and Goldie Hawn in Aspen). We met up about 3:45 pm at the Dunkin donuts rendezvous point and were driven to the launch site-a big open field of state land. As it was Valentines Day there was a bevy of other balloons with the same plan (the ballon guys are all like one big family) all spread out inflating around the same time but we were the only one of the 15 that wasn't 12 or 16 or even 23 people. It was great to see all the balloons getting ready and we were one of the first away. Some with the larger crowds were as much as 30 minutes late but all have to be down by sunset (around 630 this time of year). The flight was around an hour then ended with the traditional toast with sparkling wine and he even provided some chocolates as well. My boyfriend surprised me with a hot air balloon ride for my 25th birthday last week. Kevin and his partner were vibrant hosts and were both very knowledgeable about flying. I thought I would be a little nervous, but the ride was smooth and these guys are obviously pros which put me at ease. Kevin knew the lay of the land well and served as an excellent tour guide. The champagne toast at the end was a perfect treat at the end of our flight. I would definitely recommend taking a trip with Kevin. The other balloons we saw taking off around us were carrying 8-14 people each, and our little basket held two couples and Kevin. I'm very glad my boyfriend booked with 2 Fly Us because we had a more intimate trip--the other couple on our flight was lovely. Two notes: Be prepared to wake up early and the flame for the balloon is HOT! I regretted wearing a nice top because I definitely sweated through it. A friend and I were in town for a convention and heard about hot air balloon rides being a popular activity around here so I jumped on Yelp , found this page, and called the number. Expecting someone to be taking business calls in a nice climate-controlled office, I was taken by surprise when the man answering the phone asked me to call back, explaining that he was occupied at the moment with landing the balloon. Upon calling back awhile later, we found out that, to our luck, several people had cancelled their reservation the next day so there was room for us! Kevin was really nice to talk to over the phone and he sent us the address of the meet-up location, which was a Dunkin' Donuts. It took a bit of commitment to wake up at 4am to get to the meet-up location by 6am. It was an easy place to find and relatively safe, being a plaza with several businesses. And the Dunkin' was open at 6am so you didn't have to be outside in the dark. Kevin and his crew rolled up in two vans towing the balloons, picked us up, and we were on our way to find the perfect take-off spot! After about 15-20 minutes of driving around and seeing how the winds were for the day, we found a spot for take off. It was pretty nice to watch the sunrise while the crew inflated the balloons. They even let us stand INSIDE the balloon while it was inflating! One extra great thing about this company is that their balloons are smaller, and can only fit 3 passengers and 1 pilot. It's nice that everyone gets a "window" seat in the basket. And personally, I prefer a smaller group of people. The balloon ride lasted about 1.5 hours, and we went up to about 8,000 feet and saw the state of Arizona at its finest. Throughout the ride, Kevin was a great tour guide, providing a lot of interesting facts about Arizona and showing us specific points of interest in the vast landscape. He's also got a great sense of humor and shared with us some fun stories and encounters with celebrities during his adventures flying balloons throughout the years. After we landed the balloon, we had a champagne toast (I mean, who says no to mimosas at 9am?). I got to keep the cork from the bottle for good luck :) Overall, it was a fantastic experience and we couldn't ask for a better host and pilot than Kevin. Initially it was a bit scary to me but once I got used to being up in the air it was a breeze (pun not intended). I booked the flight for myself and hubs and for a moment it looked as if it wasn't going to happen due to rain coming into Phoenix. Of all the times!!! We were called and asked if we wanted to change the date but we couldn't so it was left to see if the original date and weather would cooperate. They did! Kevin is a hoot which made for a great ride. Very professional but also fun which helped when I was still nervous. He explained many things about ballooning and its history and what things we were floating over (beware the jumping cholla cactus) and even told us there was an app for wind currents (which proves there is an app for every thing!). Our ride was a sunrise one and it was amazing to see the sun come over the mountains and watch the other balloons that were also flying that day to inflate and rise. But our ride rocked as his will only carry up to 4 people plus him unlike the others which looked like egg crates full of people - they can carry up to 14 at a time some of them. As it turned out it was just us and Kevin so it was fantastic. Seeing the world from 5000 feet in the air in a basket is something else!!!! Therefore, when we were in Phoenix, AZ we decided to rebook with them. It was Perfect! One of the best parts is that Kevin has a small basket, therefore it was just me, my husband, my sister and her husband. My friend's phone battery was dying while we were mid-air, so they charged it for her. Talk about service! They make sure that this experience is the best. They clearly love what they do, and they make your trip worthwhile. The basket for their balloon is small, so everyone gets a window seat. You don't have to elbow past someone to try to see what's going on. The other companies take 14-20 passengers. This company takes 4 per flight. That's all. It's GREAT. They also get you up really high, show you all the mountains you can see, and then they bring you as close to the hills as you can get without landing. You get to see giant cacti that are hundreds of years old from the sky. You get close enough to wave and call out to people on hikes or out walking their dogs. It's really friggin cool. We took the sunset flight, which means you land before sunset and get to drink sparkling wine and eat chocolate while you watch the sunset from the ground after you've landed. So fun!! Worth ever penny! The views were amazing and we loved the feeling of floating in the air and seeing all over Phoenix. However, the best part of this company is that the balloon only holds 4 people (plus the pilot), vs 14 people in other companies. It felt like we had our own private tour of the desert. We took a flight with Kevin on New Years Eve. What a great way to end the year. I would highly recommend 2 Fly Us. Kevin made this a great day for us. My wife was a little apprehensive about the flight, but Kevin helped make it enjoyable. We started out staying rather low so we all became comfortable with flying. This was a first trip for everyone in the basket. We worked up to 4000 feet, but found flying at the lower heights to be more interesting. There are several companies that offer flights. Many of them have baskets that hold 8 to 14 people. I would recommend using a company with smaller baskets. ( 4 people plus pilot). We like the smaller more personal flight. Money well spent. It was me and my finance` with 2 other people and the pilot who has been doing this for years, is very knowledgeable, has good stories to share, and gives an awesome flight. It was the best way I can think of to see the the beauty of the area with an aerial view. It's quiet which is nice for conversation. I also felt very safe and pretty comfortable. You do have to stand and are get a little close to the others in the basket if its more than 2-3 people but I felt comfortable enough for the duration of the flight. She is afraid of heights and was not sure she would enjoy it but had a fantastic time. All three of them enjoyed every minute of it - even my teenage niece who is hard to impress :) Kevin is the owner of the company and also the pilot so he works hard to make very sure you have the best possible experience. He has flown balloons in Phoenix for over 25 years and really knows the area with lots of colorful stories to tell to keep you entertained. The basket will only hold 4 adults (plus the pilot) so it is a very personal experience as well. We all loved the mimosas and muffins at the end with the story of the very first balloon ride :) This is actually the second flight I have taken with Kevin. My four kids and I took a flight with him a couple of years ago and it is something they still talk about and would jump at the chance to do again. Four of us took this hot air balloon ride before sun set for my friend's 50th Birthday. It was affordable compared to other companies, but the basket was a little small. We felt like the red hot burner was very close to our heads, especially when he had to juice it to make hot air. But the experience was wonderful. Kevin was so funny and entertaining. He was very competent and experienced which put all of us at ease, especially two people on our flight who are a bit afraid of heights. His crew was courteous, friendly, and enthusiastic. All I want to write here, is FANTASTIC! My husband always talked about wanting to go on a hot air balloon ride, and me being scared of heights I was so hesitant. So for his 30th birthday, I just bit the bullet and booked it. I can't tell you how much I want to go AGAIN! And if that ever does happen It will be with Kevin hands down! The original date we had scheduled ended up being bad cause of the weather conditions and Kevin made sure to be in constant contact with me, updating me on the weather; he also made sure we got rescheduled for the next day!.... If you need anymore convincing to fly with him; his basket only fit 4 people. It wasn't a huge basket like some of the balloons we saw that day, it was a more private and inmate setting and it was AWESOME! Kevin was knowledgable and knew Arizona well and pointed out awesome scenery to make sure we had the best flight as possible. He was very personable and you could truly tell he loved his job and loved flying. The whole day took probably 4 hours, and definitely worth waking up early for the sunrise flight. The best time ever! We flew and Kevin the pilot was very efficient and most entertaining. There were other companies flying balloons that same day and our ride was far more superior. We were able to cruise in places the other could not. I felt sorry for the people on the other balloons. Even heard the other pilots over the radio say they wished they could fly like we were. He has a smaller balloon and was able to fly in places they couldn't. The smaller basket allowed for a much more personal flight. We had a great time and would recommend it to all!!!! read more
