Jay's courses were awesome! I've taken his concealed permit and basic pistol courses, and both of them were very informative and helpful! Jay takes his time to make sure everyone understands all of the course material, and focuses a lot of attention on making sure everyone is safe at all times. In regard to the reviews complaining about the $50 deposit being lost: HE EXPLAINS SEVERAL TIMES THAT THE DEPOSIT IS NON-REFUNDABLE. So take some personal responsibility and stop complaining. For someone running a small business, it is very difficult when people sign up for a course (taking up a space someone else might have wanted) and then back out. It makes sense there would be some portion of the cost that would be non-refundable. Jay offers an unlimited amount of monthly dates to choose from when signing up for one of the other pistol courses. You're not trapped into locking into one date way in advance. You can take your time and wait to pick a date until a later time if you'd like. Jay is the real deal. I've already recommended him to several family members and friends. Everyone seems to agree that with the integration of his expertise and humor, his classes are easy to follow. I personally took his concealed carry course, where he focused on firearm safety, situational awareness, when/when not to use a firearm and Florida firearm laws. My uncle became CCW certified through another instructor and was impressed with the amount of knowledge I gained with just a single class with Jay, covering subtopics from state reciprocity to the castle doctrine to gun-free zones. I realized my uncle didn't know much about firearm laws in the state of Florida, which is essential before handling a firearm. It appears many instructors neglect these topics or don't emphasize them enough in their CCW courses. It is imperative to protect yourself and your family from a perpetrator... but doing so the legal way. HIGHLY recommend taking this course, Jay is an excellent instructor. I took his CCW class in Dec '18 and pre-registered for this course & I am SOO glad that I did. I had purchased my own firearm and was waiting for this class to shoot it for the first time, it was pretty instense and Jay truly makes you feel at ease and helps guide you along. He is so good at making the experience feel personal even though we are in a group setting and that's important since everyone learns at a different pace. There are a lot of instructors out there but it won't be the same experience, he truly makes a serious subject fun to learn about which prevents losing focus. In addition to the firearm training, he goes into teaching other self defense methods! You cannot beat the amount of information given at his price point, excellent value!! Great class! You learn how to properly handle a gun, clean it, how to defend yourself before using a gun, how to be aware of your surroundings, how to shoot accurately, proper hand technique and stance and most importantly how not to accidentally shoot yourself or someone else while handling a gun. I was first timer and now feel very confident on handling a gun and being able to protect myself. No one class is enough. I've learned you have to practice and make it muscle memory. Best thing about the class is jay. He has a sense of humor and will make the class fun and not boring. I highly suggest taking his concealed weapons class and his basic pistol class. I've taken both and now want to take more classes with Jay to get more proficient in shooting and handling a gun in difficult situations. read more

My wife and her girlfriend attended this class last night. The worst experience of their life. Not only was the class lased with profanity but he ( Jay Klavans) had the audacity to say to a former student of his ( who return to get her certificate signed) was dressed like a "Striper". This behavior continued throughout the night. During one of his slide presentation he referred to the slide as "Don't try and save a Ho". I want to inform all of the LEOs out there please don't send your love ones to this class he is very degrading to LEOs as a whole, no matter where you are employed. J made the course as entertaining as is probably possible with the given material. This class is not going to teach you how to properly shoot your firearms, or what gun you should buy. That's not the objective. This class teaches you the laws of Florida you need to understand in order to get certified and apply for a concealed weapons license. He covers the material well and takes the time to answer any questions at the end. If you want a pistol class, on using pistols in justified situations, target shooting, self-defense training, etc, he can get you signed up before you're out the door. read more

Instructor Jay said very inappropriate comments about multiple topics and people and made me feel very uncomfortable especially as a female. I didn't learn anything. He spent the class making fun of people and making unnecessary comments, belittling classmates, and saying comments like "you should just quit the class now and have someone else carry a gun for you." Got the CCW class as a gift. Was pleasantly surprised with available hours that fit in my schedule. Class was fun and did not drag on. Instructor has good sense of humor that makes class engaging nad interesting. Certificate has all needed information to apply for the permit ( including short url links to schedule it) which was a good idea. Overall I had fun and learned few new things while attempting the class. I would recommend this and any other classes, mostly due to instructors personality. Andriy F. read more

Great course with wonderful flexible options! Jay is funny and entertaining! He is very knowledgeable and his expertise and years of training definitely show. He made all of us feel comfortable and not like dummies. I also liked how he made SURE that people were actually listening and participating. I appreciated that Jay took all the guesswork out of the process, and made it a one-stop shop for applying for your concealed weapons permit. From having a member of the sheriff's department on-site to take fingerprints, right down to providing the stamp on the envelope to mail the permit, they really thought of everything you need. I was very hesitant about guns in general because of some personal situations I've experienced with them. After some convincing, my husband and I took the basic firearm course. This course not only educated me on the importance of being knowledgeable of the laws but I also felt more comfortable with a firearm after the course....so much that we took the next course that offered basic self-defense. I have to give it to Jay, he was just as knowledgeable about firearms (guns to the layperson) as he was about Florida State Law's, and Statutes.
