We had high hopes as we are Portuguese and love a good Portuguese bbq spot. Went with traditional chicken, fries and rice platter (IYKYK) - chicken was good but a little dry. Fries and rice were blah. Also ordered yuca - which was AWFUL. And sweet plantains, which were just ok. The weirdest part was the picadinho...it was 100% without question chicken, instead of pork. Tasted nothing like it should. Disappointing for sure. read more

Been driving by this place for 3 years now. Snowy SB Sunday bought me in for a surprise dinner for the Mrs. Wow! Was I ever surprised. Chicken and rib plate for $20 was more than enough for us two old farts. Chicken was moist and tasty! But those RIBS! Oh my were they delicious. Mixed veggies were a bit soft. The chips never made it home. I'm returning for the ribs indeed! read more

Been wanting to try this place for a while now. Finally remembered to give it a shot. The guy running the place is very friendly. I ordered to go. Although the food was very tasty, I was a little disappointed because I received beef ribs instead of the baby back pork ribs I ordered. I noticed the special was beef ribs, but that's not what I ordered. The steak sandwich also very good. The meat was tender and tasty but the sandwich was very small for the price. To be fair there was a sign up saying the prices on the menu do not reflect the prices due to the increase cost of food. I can certainly understand and appreciate that but my bill was a bit more than I expected. Times are hard these days for everyone, maybe especially hard for small business owners. I'll give this place another try in the future because the food and the service were both very good. read more

Very good Portuguese style chicken. The ribs are not the typical Portuguese ribs instead they have a Memphis style dry rub which was really good. Overall I will definitely be back. Only suggestion is that the portions could be a little bit larger for the price. read more

This was our first time coming here and wee were looking for something different. So we decided to try it out. We decided to order the Giants Platter Dinner. We started with the Garlic Shrimp. They were cooked to perfection not chewy and rubbery at all. The shrimp were cooked with garlic and lemon and the taste was just amazing to the palate. There was also thin pork chops with grilled onions. The pork was very tender and flavorful. My only suggestion is I would sprinkle a little Goya Adobo on it. But other than that it was good. Tender pork Flavorful shrimp with hit of lemon and garlic Tender chicken with a tiny bite of spice Yellow rice with great lemony flavor Pork ribs were flavorful with a little bite afterwards. Food overall was very tasty. Definately recommend this place. The only minor downfall is the seating is very limited. If they had a bigger spot for more tables they would make bank because the food is very good. read more

It never ceases to amaze me when people say a place is slow that they give it a bad rating...did you ever stop to think it's because the food is being made fresh? That's exactly the case with Fire Pit Grill! The wings are insane...the skin is crispy while the sauce is bountiful of flavor and spice. The plantines and tostones were perfectly done... I can't say enough about how amazing everything is...this was the first of many trips! read more

First time having real Portuguese style food outside of the Elizabeth area. I was very happy with the menu choices and style. The appetizer we got were the peeled onions and the plantains, they were great. We did the rib platter as our main entree. Great family like service and great rib dry rub. Of course the rice and beans were good too. Next time we will be trying the chicken and pulled pork empanadas. I recommend it to anyone in the Bayville area. read more

The only reason why I can't give this place five stars is because there's really no atmosphere, it's a take out place. Other than that, it's superb. The grilled chicken and meats are outstanding, the homemade chips are incredible, and the black bean soup is incredible. The star of the menu are the Parmesan - Garlic chicken wings. I can eat a whole order in a sitting. They are amazing. read more

0 stars is what this place deserves the owner has a temper and lacks business or people skills when i tasted the dry flavorless chicken and asked for sauce or something he me rudely that what i was saying was impossible as he stormed off he stepped up to me as a pregnant woman and got in my face as well as my boyfriends and threatend to call the cops when we defended ourselves YOUR FOOD TASTES LIKE SHIT AND IS NOT PORTUGUESE IN THE LEAST he will run into the wrong person one day to teach him that lesson only hope to hear about it :) read more

AMAZING FOOD!!! I had ordered a tray of their BBQ chicken & Seafood Paella for my husbands birthday bbq... it was AMAZING... I was worried I ordered too much but it ALL went, I'm still craving the BBQ chicken. Another time my brother went and brought back some left over ribs & plantains which were also amazing. The only reason I didn't order plantains for my husbands party was because I was worried I would eat them all :) ... The owner is super nice as well... A great establishment with delicious food! The owner is always so nice when we order and pick up our food. The food is so tasty. The platters and empanada are a go to for us! May not look like much driving by but it's a perfect spot to order from and give a try if you haven't! It's important to support these types of businesses especially during these times. Went with my wife and daughter on Sunday afternoon, we were looking for something different to try and found this restaurant. We were not disappointed, everything we got was excellent. We got the Spanish Paella and an order of empanadas. The portion size was pretty surprising, the paella alone could feed a four! Also I'd like to give a BIG shout out Steve. I imagine he's the owner but if not please know that he's something special. He was pretty much alone(said he was training someone), very busy, and still seemed to be having a ball, prepared some great food AND took the time to treat my daughter like a princess. Steve, Thank You, you're awesome and your business has new customers for as long as you'll have us. read more

Noticed this place for a couple of years and finally decided to give it a try last week for take out. What an awesome place! Owner Steve is a super nice guy. Everything is homemade. He has racks of ribs and chickens on a charcoal rotisserie. Side dishes like the sweet plantains, rice, black beans and fresh vegetables are so flavorful. Paella is excellent. Huge portions on everything. Skirt steak marinated amazing, cowboy platter huge. Cuban sandwich huge! You can also eat there and it's byob! Menu is huge. Went again tonight for take out. This restaurant was amazing! We enjoyed our garlic parmesan wings and Giants platter. The chicken was incredibly delicious - I will be thinking about it for a WHILE. As others have noted, not a great sit down and eat place (although that's exactly what we did), but for the price, portion and quality, Fire Pit is 5 stars. I had the cowboy platter. My ribs were flavorful and not tough, chicken was not dried out, and the fried bananas were, by far, the best I've ever had. Oh yes and I received about a full pound of rice and beans as well. In hindsight the next time we visit fire pit my fiancé and I will get one platter and split it. Portions are very very generous. read more

Incredible food! Decided to order 5 platters for takeout tonight to feed my extended family. We're from central NJ where there are multiple great Portuguese restaurants, so our expectations weren't high. We had the chicken, ribs, strip steak, and picadinho with rice, fries, and vegetables. Everything was delicious and great quality for the price. We were stuffed and so pleased. Owner is wonderful and doing the best he can in these hard times where it's hard to find help.
