We arrived with a large group without reservations, kinda chose it on a whim, so we had to wait a bit but it was fine, we were shortly accommodated. The place looked spacious and with a lot of light, it looked clean and they seemed to have a nice selection of wines (for those that like it) , they were displayed for people to see, which I thought looked very nice. I went to the restroom to wash my hands and I found it odd that there was only 1 restroom for the size of the restaurant. Our waiter was nice, he took our order and we were excited. The food took a VERY long time, we were starving, and we had kids with us so that wasn't good. Some of our orders were wrong and so unfortunately we had to wait even longer for the right meal. We didn't order alcohol but we did older a couple of mocktails. I was SUPER excited for them because that's something I always appreciate at a restaurant. I'm sad to say that they were AWFUL!! straight up syrup, not bubbly (some were supposed to have soda in them) not sweet, simply not enjoyable at all, I ended up switching it for a simple club soda, I figured it was a safe bet. When my food came out, it was ok, I had the avocado toast, and it was forgettable, my sister had the chicken and waffles and now THAT was the meal to get, it was large in portion and that chicken was beyond tasty!! My other sister has the lomito sandwich with the chips and it was good, something missing but she enjoyed it. The rest of the food were burgers and they were ok, the kids had burgers and Mac and cheese and they were not tasty according to the children's disinterest in barely touching their food (and they love cheeseburgers). I'm always willing to bypass certain things as long as customer service delivers BUT unfortunately they fell short. We were celebrating an engagement and so we were all very happy and in a great mood, when suddenly workers around us were cleaning up the neighboring tables, and even sweeping very close to us. We thought the place was possibly closing? (Even though it was only 2:15pm). I asked if they were closing and they said that they close the restaurant from 3-4 so their employees can go eat .... I'm not against giving them a break BUT, it really felt like they were kicking us out, we felt pressured to eat fast and wrap it up, not a good feeling, when you are in the zone of happiness. It was our first time there so, I would have appreciated if they would have informed us that the restaurant takes a little break in between and then we would have decided if we wanted to stay or go elsewhere. They did bring a little dessert and 2 mocktails for the newly engaged which was nice, I'll give them that. Overall, I don't think the food and experience was worth me coming back or recommending this place, I'm sure there's other much better places.
.Enjoyed coming here for a yelp event. Got to enjoy an arrangement of appetizers ranging from different meats and cheeses with fruits and crackers ,duck jambalaya, Brussels sprouts , and braised lamb. Service here was fast and friendly, establishment was clean too. To drink I got the ELDER WISDOM It was made with gin, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, rosemary simple, elderflower, elderberry liqueur, prosecco, lemon wheel, smoked rosemary. It was tasty!
I came here for an early dinner on a Saturday with my friend to celebrate her birthday. It is seven minutes from the Mark Twain house. The restaurant looked very nice. It has multiple rooms. The waiter was very informative and explained their mission and how they help people to to learn skills and keep a job. We had the biscuits as an appetizer, which was very good. It was sweet and dense with lots of flavor. My friend had the burger which she thought was very good. I had the barbecued jackfruit meal. I thought the baked beans had a lot of flavor. The jackfruit was good. It didn't have as much flavor as the baked beans. The only thing disappointing was the corn on the cob. I did not feel it was cooked all away. However, the staff tried to fix the issue. We did take cookies to go, which were delicious. Overall, we were happy with our Milan and would love to go back to try other food. I would recommend trying them out.
It's a great mission, with great food and drink/drank choices. Bathroom: ***** (super clean/classy) Quality: **** Quantity: ** Presentation: **** (well platted) Price: $$$$$ (pricy for quantity) Ambiance: Loud/Casual/Busy Attitude: Kind/Attentive Overall: too pricy for the overall experience and food. Nice to contribute but you're contributing your check!
Delicious! We really enjoyed our food and the staff was very nice. Spacious place with a casual but nice feel to it and good ambience.
A rainy weekend morning brought us to Fire by Forge. It's a great space. It screams converted factory. The bar and bar area are huge. How much liquor do they have? All of it. It's a really well stocked bar. We started with mimosas and Bellinis. They were delicious. The Americano was double size, made properly. It was arguably the best I've ever had. Deviled egg starters along with an incredibly tasty cinnamon roll. A few sandwiches, bagels, and avocado toast did it for meals. Jessica ok great care of us, but everyone in the place was friendly and engaged. It's good food, for a good cause. Check em out!
We went for Mother's Day Brunch and loved it! Get the biscuit appetizer served with butter and jam! They were delicious! Industrial atmosphere and large seating area in the back. We loved their vegan tofu scramble. (However the vegan bacon was too crunchy!) My mother got the steak & eggs and she loved it! Something for everyone! Kind staff. Great family spot!
Went here for a yelp elite event. The place was packed in the back where regular diners were seated for dinner. The place was super lively, beautifully decorated, and inviting. We were able to try many of their dishes, my favorite was their gumbo. I couldn't have eaten enough here. I tried their smoked apple drink which is one of the most delicious drinks I've ever had. I would def go back with friends . Thanks fire by forge !
Another fun night with the elite squad I got to sample bites like the Brussels mushroom empanada with truffle mayo, picanha steak with chimichurri butter and the duck jambalaya! Bar drinks were delicious and vibrant, and the atmosphere felt social. Parking is available in lot and also along the street. Busy bartenders, happy patrons and creatively unique food.
Extremely overpriced for what it is. We came for lunch- I originally ordered the Holy Mole chicken arepa, but they didn't have the arepa. I got the burrito and it was bland. The street corn dip was okay but not worth $16. There was also a small hair in it that I didn't notice until we were done, it was under the tortilla chips and definitely not mine. The American Up n Down onion soup was good ($11). I liked the lavender lemonade. My partner got the steak sandwich, which he was disappointed in. Very small portion for $22. His drink was never brought to the table. I would maaaaaybe come back to try their brunch but I know it would be overpriced as well. There's a lot of better places to eat that don't cost nearly as much. $90 for a lunch for two- no alcohol- and it wasn't very good. Very disappointing.
Through the grapevine (social media pages I follow), we heard that Chef Van Hurd from Season 6 of Hell's Kitchen was now the executive chef here at Fire By Forge! So naturally, we pulled up to check it out! (Disclaimer: Chef told me that he was so new there that his featured items hadn't hit the menu at that time. ALSO, he's been long gone from there at the time of this review.) So anyway, here's how things went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right in Hartford, just a little on the outskirts is this gem. It's on Broad street a little out the way and there is a very small parking lot next to the restaurant, but street parking is also available. The outside looks very well put together and rustic. Once inside the restaurant is kinda split into 2 sections. You have the main section which is nice, open with high ceilings, bright red bricks, big windows, soft leather couches and all kinds of seating arrangements. If you walk past the bar you get into a smaller section, but it's kinda like a tunnel of tables. Lol. That tunnel of tables then opens up into what almost looks like a different restaurant, but feels like a space they expanded into. So there's plenty of places to sit, though I still encourage reservations! The atmosphere was lively and full of energy. This place also lets you know that it's a cooking school too! Amateur chefs can come here to learn knife skills and cooking skills as well! (This is just a small snippet of what they do, but I encourage you to visit the businesses website to learn more about what they offer.) Service: Here's my only gripe about this place. Right online it says "Happy Hour is from 4:30 PM to 6 PM daily and 8pm-9pm, except on holidays, events, or show nights." But like, when isn't there a show or some sort of event going at at The Bushnell or some nearby theater?! You have to literally call and check with the host to see if they're doing happy hour before you come because if you THINK you're in the clear, they can just say... oh there's a show tonight so there will be no happy hour. So that bothered me. Oh well. We still dined. Now for the good stuff! Let me tell you something about Suzie Johnson! She is the bartender here and she won BARTENDER OF THE YEAR in 2024 via the Connecticut Restaurant Association! She is a TREAT! She's full of personality, knows her stuff and is just a true pleasure. Food: First off was the Up In Smoke Old Fashioned. It had great, subtle sweetness up front, warm taste from the Up & Down branded bourbon, cold, smooth, not too harsh and of course, a bit smokey. As a courtesy to guests, they're served pickled carrots as palate cleansers instead of bread, crisps or anything like that. Clever. The first small plate I got to try were the Duck Mole Wings! These are described as "5 crispy duck wings with a tequila mole barbecue sauce, served with sesame seeds and pickled onions. These certainly looked the part! These were smooth, not necessarily crispy, extremely tender, hardy and just balanced. Mole is a very ingredient-heavy sauce and these were delicious. My 2nd drink was the Ghost Rider which is Up & Down bourbon, spiced Nightrider espresso, Licor 43 and an orange twist. This had a sharp cinnamon/hazelnut/nutmeg flavor/spice-y flavor. Very good and warming as well, even though it was a little sweet. Next up was the Knife Skills Soup! This is a soup compiled by the trainees and all the vegetables they've chopped in class! How cool is that?! It was a very thick vegetable soup, hearty, salty and warm. Next up were the Tostone Nachos! These were so fantastic. The pulled pork on top was so meaty, so tender and the queso fresco was lightly cheesy adding subtle notes to the hearty pork and carb-y tostone. This was my favorite thing of the night. My last drink of the night was the Sazerac. If absinthe is in the building, I must try that restaurant's version. This one was spectacular, but could've used more rye bourbon. The last thing we had to try was their Smash Burger. The burger consists of 2 1/3 lb angus beef patties, a "crystal bun", American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and special sauce. You can add bacon, egg or anything else if you'd like. This was delicious. The whole thing just melts in your mouth. The flavors were all there and so defined. Excellent. Value: This place won't break your bank, but it's not cheap either. Each of my drinks hovered around $13.00 a piece. As I'm late to write this review as I'm still catching up from years of backlog, none of the food I wrote about is on their current menu except for their smash burger which came in at $19.00. So like I said, not cheap, but... reasonable. In conclusion, I really liked this place, but as I am a happy hour hunter, not knowing if they'll have it or not based on how busy it is... is kind of a turn off. Like, just make up your mind and the people will as well.
Stopped by for lunch and was immediately drawn to the restaurant's mission. Their commitment to supporting the community through job training, internships, and apprenticeships for individuals overcoming challenges such as poverty, incarceration, homelessness, and addiction is truly inspiring. It's the kind of mission that makes you want to support the place before even looking at the menu. I ordered the NOLA Shrimp Po'Boy, and my colleague went with the Smash Burger. Since it was a cold December day, I also ordered a cappuccino while my colleague chose a lemonade. Our drinks arrived quickly, but the food took noticeably longer. We had already finished our beverages by the time our meals arrived--about 30 minutes later. The food itself was okay, but the service could use improvement. I understand there was a large corporate group dining in at the time, which may have contributed to the delay, but consistency is important, especially during busy hours. It's an opportunity for the restaurant to refine their operations to match the strength of their mission. Overall, I appreciate what this restaurant stands for, and I hope they continue improving the dining experience to match the heart behind their purpose.
I've been twice recently and both times had a wonderful experience. The service was quick and smooth. Staff was very friendly. And it can get very busy with holiday gatherings around lunch time. The food was delicious! I got the Mac and cheese and it was so yummy the only downside to this place is the parking lot is super small so be prepared to park in the street and have to walk or try and carpool if you can. 10/10 would recommend and will for sure be coming back. Plus feels nice knowing the proceeds are to help the community!

Fire by Forge has an amazing mission which is one of the many highlights to coming. Visiting on a weekend, they offer a delicious brunch menu, cocktails and coffee. My highlight was specially their coffee bar and amazing coffee menu. They offer pour overs featured from microroasters (local) and also used in their espresso menu. They serve high quality espresso drinks and you'll catch some great latte art when Barista / café manager Benny is there! They have a staple fire syrup (cinnamon vanilla), vanilla bourbon and house made mocha. You can call ahead for pick up / delivery. The staff are friendly! The interior is a modern industrial but bright, such an enjoyable and photographable space. Certainly going back again to try some more menu items soon! read more

I came here for brunch on a Saturday afternoon with friends. We set outside; they have a beautiful outdoor space. Their drinks are amazing. The food was okay. I had the Sydney's omelette which was very fresh and good but lacked salt. The servers were kind and friendly but a little forgetful. This didn't take away from the experience though as they were very accommodating. read more

Food was good, fresh and flavorful. Unfortunately, we did have to wait quite a while for it to arrive. Service. Otherwise quite attentive and friendly. Ambiance is modern, charming in a cool building which can be a little loud due to acoustics. Neither of us cared for the brewed coffee. Ambiance was great we came at a time where they were transitioning from lunch to dinner about to close down but they didn't kick us out. We didn't feel rushed or anything when they first sat us down we were in a more crowded area and we asked could we be moved to another room and they did we were the only people in that room we had quiet and we were able to talk and have fun. We ordered different meals than we would typically order. We tried three different dishes. They were all very good. I loved the duck poutine but I didn't actually like the duck lol but I'm always up to try something new. Nevertheless, it was still a great experience. The waitress was so nice and the restaurant was clean! read more

Great food! Great service! A great concept...a not for profit restaurant to help folks overcome economic barriers. Refreshing drinks and perfectly done beef rib, Mac n cheese with deliciously juicy and crispy fried chicken. Tostones nachos for appetisers and even the homely smash burger with perfectly seasoned fries...made our day!! Dessert was pumpkin flan...amazing too! read more

Very cute inside, service was decently quick and we never had empty waters. Not to mention there wasn't a bad bite of our meal, the food choices were eclectic and all tasted great. read more

I feel like I've been in a restaurant rut lately and I'm happy to report that Fire By Forge has pulled me out of that rut with their incredible food and cocktails. I dined at Fire By Forge for New Year's Day brunch with my husband and a few friends and I happy to say that it was one of the best meals we've all had in a very long time. We started with a round of cocktails, I went with the Jalisco Cantarito which was exactly the refreshing, tasty brunch beverage I was looking for. For my meal I chose the FxF Smashburger which was easily one of the best burgers I've ever had. It was juicy, flavorful and the perfect size to devour the entire thing in probably less than ten minutes. My friends all enjoyed their meals as well and the Huevos Rancheros and cinnamon buns were the biggest hits amongst the group. The service was phenomenal as someone was constantly checking on us throughout the meal. The restaurant itself is bright, open and very welcoming. I cannot wait to return for dinner and to try more delicious menu items. read more

We Had a fantastic dinner tonight! The server was a sweetheart! Great smile and was attentive all evening. I had the smoked wings, which were tasty but slightly too salty for my taste. I tried the nachos, which were perfect, with the right blend of spices and herbs. I had a hardy portion of the four-cheese Mac & Cheese with roasted vegetables. It came out steaming hot, which made it the perfect consistency. Flavorful and delicious! One of The best things is that its staff are paid a living wage, get health insurance, and get paid time off, which is unheard of in the industry. We will definitely go again! read more

I work at a school in Hartford and we wanted to order a nice one for our social workers for their appreciation week. I was so disappointed when the food was delivered and the salad was a huge disappointment. I added a picture of the salad before I called the staff member. I called and spoke to the manager and he basically said that he will let the kitchen know and didn't offer a refund or other options. read more

Fire by Forge is everything we need in the community, as well as a MUST for those who appreciate delicious food. As a social worker in Hartford, their mission is everything I support and love. It feels good to know I will be single handedly funding their mission with ALL the food I will be ordering and how frequently I will be going, haha, just kidding. But really, I'm actually annoyed with myself that it took me so long to get here! I first came with a girl friend to enjoy dinner and yap over a delicious meal. We ordered their empanadas and WOW it was a texture heaven for me. I got their salmon and it was beautifully done. My friend ordered the scallops and they were jumbo! Dessert took it home for me as I had the most phenomenal pistachio creme brulee. The service was perfect, the restaurant is ridiculously clean, and tables are well spaced between patrons. I mean seriously, this is a gem to Connecticut and I encourage everyone to come try it out if they have not had the chance. I can't wait to try out the brunch menu! It's so good I'm actually coming by tonight for dinner with my fiance! Thanks Fire by Forge team for all you for the community and those with hungry stomachs! read more

My friend recommended this restaurant for Saturday brunch, and after reviewing their menu online I agreed it looked good! We arrived around 10 and were able to be seated on their shaded outdoor patio right away. The menu had all the classic brunch items, as well as some more unique offerings. They had an extensive cocktail list and a few mocktail options as well. I ordered the avocado toast and pomegranate mule, and my friend ordered the Croque Madame and the Rose of Capilla cocktail. They ended up bringing our food and drinks at the same time, and we were both very happy with what we ordered. I especially liked the pomegranate mule, I thought it had some nice spices and a complex flavor overall. At the end of our meal, they brought the check which included an 18% service charge. I appreciated how they had this listed online and on the menus, and how the check itself explained what it was for. Overall, I'm glad I had an opportunity to try this great brunch spot while visiting the area! read more

I've been dying to try this place out and we decided to do brunch last Saturday. We started with coffee. I ordered a coffee and my husband ordered the Dulce De Leche latte. I think the waitress goofed and gave me a latte (based on the price) but I was ok with that. The waitress told us they have their own brand of coffee...it was delicious. Then I ordered the Tacu Tacu Bowl and my husband ordered the FXF Smash Burger and added bacon. It came with French fries. My bowl was very flavorful. My husband loves his burger but the star of the show were the fries I have to say. They were cooked perfectly and the best fries I've ever had. Crispy on the outside and soft inside. I love McDonald's fries but these were better. The concept of the restaurant is to hire and train people that have had difficulties obtaining a job/career. I can't wait to try their Happy Hour one of my favorite things. read more

I was lured in because they had partnered with a Chaos Kitten Club to have a meet and greet with kittens in need of home. After cooing over the kittens we headed inside for lunch. The decor inside is beautiful and high end with a great wood burned map of Connecticut on one wall. Our waitress was the best! The service was timely, efficient, and friendly. The restaurant is part of Forge City Works. This means the restaurant is part of a job training program for adults who face barriers to employment. It is a great cause. The free pickled veggie started was perfect for the hot summer day. My girlfriend got the lobster roll special and loved it. I kept stealing her in-house chips because they were so good! I got the poke bowl which was fine if bland. It needed more fish, more sauce, and more kick. That was on me, I should have gone with my initial instinct and ordered the burger because it looked amazing. Cheers, Edward read more

Came here today for a dinner with some friends & we absolutely loved it! We are Muslim so we only eat halal meat and they are so accommodating to our needs. We got the chicken because it was halal ( as said by the staff and their menu online) this is so nice to see in an American restaurant and we appreciate it. Also they were able to make us Mocktails no alcohol drinks! The food was really good Mac and cheese was amazing made to perfection as well as the chicken so soft and flavor was there! New HALAL spot found. We stumbled upon this place due to a IG post by someone else. Contacted and confirmed that they do have halal chicken, which is also disclosed on their menu. We made reservations and headed there right away. Parking was easy upfront, staff was super friendly, ambience and food was great. The flavor was spot on and the hostess, the person we made reservations with all stopped by to make us feel welcomed and greet us. The one young lady who made our reservations, I won't try to spell out her name and mess it up, came over and had a nice conversation with us. Knew about halal certifications and even said if there's more community interest, they get halal beef and steaks too. Love this new spot and can't wait to go back. read more

Heard good things about this place so wanted to try them out. I came for brunch on a Sunday it was a bit rainy outside and a lot of events going on in the area so thankfully not too packed. We went able to be seated right away. For my main dish I got the huevos rancheros. For the dish they had the eggs on the tostones both were very bland. So of course I added all the sauces on it that you can see in the description and even after adding everything it still tasted very bland. So was not impressed with that dish and wouldn't order it again. I tried the banana bread French toast which was definitely more banana bread than French toast but it was moist and I did enjoy the flavor. I also got to that the chicken stew. I thought the flavor of that was pretty good however there were 2 pieces of chicken and mostly potatoes... would like a little more consistency with each pour of the stew. My friend thought the chicken and waffles were just ok. But she really enjoyed the vegan burrito, she thought that was the best dish. I like the inside atmosphere and vibe. I would like to come back and give them a chance on the dinners because I like the selections they give. I did enjoy the coffee. And staff was friendly. I also like that there was a Parking lot and street parking read more

I finally made it to this restaurant after my all time favorite restaurant Firebox closed. The ambiance is beautiful and very welcoming. The staff were attentive and very nice as well. I started off with a mocktail which unfortunately was not great and my date ordered a cocktail which also wasn't to their liking. After being a bit nervous after drinks, the food was AMAZING. We ordered the biscuits which were TOP NOTCH and maybe the best I've had. We then had the pork belly bao buns that were the BEST dish we ordered that night. The pork belly was cooked PERFECTLY and the flavor combo was spot on. I heard the tostones nachos were great but they weren't for me. My date really liked it. For a main dish, we split the short rib which was also great (not quite as tender as I prefer) but flavors on point as well. Lastly we ordered the banana pudding which was delectable. All in all the food was pretty damn good and I will definitely be back! read more
