Much appreciation to our waitress. After only 3 (including myself) of our 9 person booking turned…read moreup on time; 2 more 20mins late and the rest a ridiculous 45mins late. She remained friendly, bubbly and more than helpful. Offering us a smaller table thinking they had cancelled. Probably didn't want to waste the large table but we also did look a bit lonely sitting their nearly empty. Again staff in general were polite in moving us on as the last table and having gone beyond their closing time of 9:30pm. Also having to tell one of our guests that the kitchen had closed (they wanted dessert), whilst I lowered my head in annoyance at the request. I don't know if they always split bills but after a membership card was presented for the 10% discount they proceeded to take more of their time to accomodate this. Now to the food. Arriving to check in our reservation, we were passed by 2 enormous trays of food that I later found out were sharing platters. One ordered at our own table consisting of rib eye steak, ribs and sides. Bring your hunger game! A semi seafood platter also available. My partner and I ordered the 10oz rib eye (medium as standard) with saloon sauce for him and chipotle bernaise for me. The steak looked.... different. Putting it down to the slow cooked process? Tasted amazing regardless. But be warned, the steaks appear to be coated or dry rubbed with chilli flakes. I didn't mind it at all but my partner said his mouth was on fire. I tried his and disagreed strongly. Maybe his threshold was low that night. The side of chips were well seasoned and it was nice to have veggies included over salad. If I had to be negative I'd say the Texas toast could have been done better. Dry due to the thickness and needed more garlic flavour. Already have them in mind for a return trip for my birthday.

Excellent steaks, great service and a relaxing vibe. A gem in Mortdale!…read more My personal favourite is the Rib Eye, rare with red wine jus.

First & foremost this place was one of 3 places not on Yelp ... i couldn't beleive it!! The…read moreexpensive hardware store or the vet next door was in Yelp before this place hahah obviously peoples mind set isn't in the right place lol This steak house is tucked away in an almost one way back street of Mortdale :)! Its close to the pub which only locals stick too & is also really close to the well known Mortdale Bike shed. People probably not aware of this place cause its only open from 12pm on fridays & Saturdays and every other day is open fron 5pm. As soon as you walk into the restaurant you notice all the old school Fire station memorabilia hung up all over the walls :)!! So the the name Fire house Grill is the perfect name for this place :). Was here at the restaurant for a mother's day dinner with the family to beat the hustle & bustle rush of the real mothers day tomorrow :)!! We ordered a mixed entrée with, ribs off the bone, tasty pork belly with a creamy slaw topping, king prawns with a crumbed cheese coating, haloumi cheese, salad with 2 dipping sauces (garlic & tzatziki). For dinner majority had fillet mignone with chips salad and dipping sauce of your choice, i had a oven roasted duck with a tasty salad and mum had the braised beef cheek which tasted a bit over cooked and dry byt all the other maibs were very nice :)!! For dessert 2 people had the mango creme Bruleé which was outstanding, my sister had a perfection sticky date pudding which is never served big enough to satisfy your needs lol & i had a freesh fruit & Cheese platter with a peppermint tea.. the perfect tasty end to a nice dinner night out with the family :)!! Really enjoyed dining at this place.. been here about 4 times now and would recommend it to anyone i know .. and must mention again that while waiting for your food to come out and if you weren't conversing it was really nice to stare around the restaurant & study all the fire house memorabilia they had to offer :)

My partner had to book this restaurant 3 months in advance. I really liked the speak easy vibes…read more The restaurant dining area is small and super nice and intimate. You have to order a steak and the bone marrow. It was the best steak and bone marrow I have ever had. We ordered white beans which were good. I couldn't take a picture of our food or dining area. They do take your phone and put it in a box and lock it up. They want you to experience no interruptions. Which I really loved the idea. I wish more restaurants were like this. I would definitely recommend this place.

Well, today we're checking out Bistecca... a steakhouse speakeasy of sorts! Here's how it went and why it was rated #45 of the top 101 steakhouses in the entire world... Atmosphere/Appearance: Deep in downtown Sydney hidden in an alleyway in the entrance to this literal hidden gem. Lol. Once through the door and down the stairs you're taken to a very dark dimly lit, but very old-school looking tavern. It's a small room, but essentially a waiting room/cocktail lounge for you. Once it's your turn to head into the dining room the door open to the brightly lit room, your phones are locked away in a drawer which you have access to via a key and you're guided to your seat! I LOVED this experience because now you're forced to just live and be in the moment. The kitchen is wide open and you can see everything that's happening. The tables and chairs are scattered throughout the room and you just, BE. Like the good 'ol days before smart phones. Service: I can't remember the name of our server, but he was excellent. We had no issues at all. Food: The menu is extremely simple. You're here for steak. That's it. The steak is sold in 100g increments. So you order by weight. We ordered 900g and the steak was so incredible we both wish we could've gone to maybe 1.2kg. Lol. That's a LOT of steak still, but this does include the weight of the bone. The feature is a large, T-bone steak cut from Australian-grown Chianina cattle and grilled over charcoal. It's recommended to be cooked medium-rare. It seriously was Heavenly. I don't even remember what sides we got. That's how good this steak was. Lol. Value: The steak is $19 AUD ($11.84 USD) per 100 grams (3.5 oz). The conversion can trip you up, so for example, the ORIGINAL steakhouse in NYC (Delmonico's) sells their 18 oz. T-Bone for $76.00 USD. The same size steak here would cost you around $65.00 and it's the #45 best steakhouse in the world. Delmonico's is not even on that list. Do what you wish with that information. Lol. The sides were appropriately priced. In conclusion, I LOVED this place and so did my wife. We still think about Bistecca years after we've been there and it's 100% worth making some good reservations as far in advance as possible because this place is small and will always be packed!
