Service was AMAZING. Food was variable. In the end we may return but considering the raves about the food it was a let down. My boyfriend had the famous cheese and pepper pasta. The pasta is made in house, high expectations he said it was meh. I had the maladives pasta. The sauce had good flavor but it was heavy, the corn was not bad but out of place with the mushrooms. It didn't add say a dash of sweetness or lighten it. My sister's pizza was good topping wise but the crust though nicely crisped visually(even a bit " coal fired " ) was soggy where it thinned down in the center. Desert was good, and unusual. My husband and I came here for his birthday after hearing nothing but good things. We made a reservation a few days in advance - I would definitely recommend making a reservation especially for the weekend. The space is small and there were full tables around us all night. Service was great. Whoever helped me to reserve a table on the phone was very friendly and patient. During our visit, our server was very prompt and attentive without being overly pushy or intrusive. All around great staff! Our dinner was amazing! We started with the meatball appetizer. It was delicious. My husband is a meatball critic and he said that Fiorella's meatballs could rival his Italian grandmother's. For our entrees, we shared the cacio e pepe and the pizza. We ordered the bee sting pizza, which is a "secret" menu item (not found on the regular menu). Our pizza had pepperoni and a honey drizzle on top. Both were spectacular. Date night This is already the best pizza in ROC, but this was our first time eating in. We got the chicken cutlets, and those certainly live up to the hype. Not much to em, and I'm not sure what exactly makes them so damn good, but they are. The sausage and polenta was delicious as well. I know all of the pasta is homemade, we'll try that next time. And we will definitely be back. Dessert was great as well, some kind of chocolate flourless cake with gelato, it was a mindblower. The ricotta cookies were good, but did not live up to the hype. I brought my mom and sister here for a belated Mother's Day dinner while I was in town and the three of us cannot stop talking about it. We made a reservation since capacity is limited, and they did a great job setting up the outdoor seating area and taking all of the necessary precautions. We started with the appetizer salad and it was the perfect sharing size with plenty of mix-ins and crisp veggies; the white balsamic was nice and light, perfect for summer. My mom and sister both ordered the cutlets, while I got the tagliatelle with roasted veggies and brown butter sauce. My mom and I decided to split so we could try two things, and I'm so happy we did! The pasta was delicious, especially with the roasted corn and squash, and the cutlets were crispy and fresh. All in all, Fiorella is a very solid Italian restaurant. My wife and I shared a Marinara pizza and each had a pasta dish. The pizza was very good - probably one of the best Neopolitan pizzas I've had in Rochester. The crust held its form and wasn't too thin or soggy. The overall taste was very good, with notes of garlic, basil, etc. And the crust was very tasty. I'd give this a 5 out of 5. My pasta dish was good, but I felt that the pasta was slightly undercooked - not al dente undercooked, but undercooked in the sense that it was a bit pasty and flour-y in texture (almost as if they hadn't completely finished cooking the noodles). If this issue were addressed, this would be a very good pasta dish. I love the fact that their pasta is home-made (I've never understood the point of going to an Italian restaurant that uses the same boxed spaghetti you can buy in a supermarket). If the pasta were cooked through, I'd give it a 4 out of 5. One last complaint is with their high-top tables in the back. I wish they had chairs with backrests or someplace else in the back where guests can hang their coats. Today we had the Bianca Verde pizza and the Margarita pizza along with a market salad. Both pizzas were so fresh tasting and the crust was just right. Not too heavy - and cooked to perfection. My boyfriend and I had dinner at Fiorella the other night and LOVED it. It's such a cute space and we had the best waiter named Marco! There were so many things that we wanted to try so we ordered a lot and got to take home leftovers! We absolutely loved the meatballs and the chicken cutlet. The chicken cutlet is the best I've had in a long time! I also really appreciated how the cheese on the margarita pizza was spread out. Often places have big clumps of cheese and then half of the pizza is missing cheese, but Fiorella's was perfect! Hostess mistreated us upon entry; this set the tone for our entire experience. We had 6pm reservations and requested to sit outside but she said the tables outside were reserved. There was not one table (of about 20) being used. I explained privately that this was our first dinner out in a year after my husbands cancer diagnosis. He can't hear well so inside wasn't an option for us (it is very loud). She gave us a very hard time and finally consented with the caveat that we vacate our table within 75 minutes. When my husband asked her kindly later if "Mr Fiorella" was there (my husband has known him since his TwoVine days and raves about his cooking). The hostess' snarky response was "That's his daughter's name." She made no attempt to connect the owner to my husband. Fortunately the food and our waitress made up for this negative opening however our salads were drenched in dressing. Yaaasssss!! My friend and I last minute double dated here last night!! We love this place and are constantly sending each other instagram photos from the Fiorella Instagram site asking when we are going. So we decided after a long and terrible shift (we are nurses at Strong) we would have our boys treat us to a dinner there! Boy were we happy campers. We shared a margarita pizza and frys to start. Sooooo good. Happiness in my mouth! Then, I know I know I don't usually do this, but we got 2 orders of the chicken cutlets to share for the four of us. They. Are. So. Flipping. GOOD!! Shared the meatball appetizer, my friend got the bee sting pizza, and I got the mushroom and spinach mafaldine pasta dish. Their homemade dough and pasta is amazing! Fantastic texture! The meatballs were good and I appreciated that they were leaner meat. The whipped ricotta and dough triangles that came with it were the star for me. My pasta dish was good, again, the texture of the pasta was great, the mushroom flavor was strong, and the cheesy sauce was good- it was too salty and for $22 should come with a protein; I would not order it again. The bee sting pizza was delicious!! I can't wait to go back and order that again. It's their homemade dough, tomato sauce base, mozzarella, the cup pepperoni, drizzled with chili oil and honey! Scrumptious! For dessert, we split the chocolate almond olive oil cake with citrus crema - it was good. I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. The restaurant is adorably decorated, with simple wooden furniture and a cozy bar area. The restaurant gets very dark in the evening and it was so loud I couldn't have a proper conversation. The staff is super friendly and I think the chef (guy in a chef coat so I'm assuming he's the chef...) brings out all of your dishes which is a nice touch. The food though was dissappointing based on all the rave reviews. My boyfriend and I started with the organic bread. It was only $3 for the serving but we really expected more. The bread arrived cold....and didn't particularly stand out. I've had much better bread and butter that were complimentary at restaurants in the same price range. If I pay for bread and butter I expect something more. For entrees I had the candele with pork shoulder, and my bf got the tagliatelle. My candele was underwhelming. The pasta and pork had the right texture, but the sauce had very little flavor. It needed more flavors from herbs, and more seasoning in general. I ordered a meatball as well. The meatball was fluffy, but the marinara it came with was tasteless. Nothing special at all. My boyfriend's tagliatelle was better than my dish. The seafood had a good smoky flavor and it was seasoned more than mine at least. The portions are actually pretty decent size for what you pay. I only finished half of my dish and I usually eat a lot. We saved room for dessert which is rare. I had the chocolate olive cake and my bf had the strawberry sorbet. I thought the cake was good. It was fluffy and light and I love the chocolate running across the piece. My boyfriend thought we've had better versions though. He really enjoyed his sorbet. It was refreshing and a nice finish to a semi-carb heavy meal. This is a very busy restaurant so make a reservation. Do it a few days ahead because I tried on the day of and they were booked til late. The restaurant was packed when we left at around 7. I'm going to keep this short and not sweet, a perfect analogy to what I experienced here yesterday. Back when I originally reviewed Fiorella shortly after it opened a few years ago, my experience was really very nice on a weekend afternoon. It was still not nearly quite as widely known yet, everything was made from scratch, you could tell there was love in the food, and it felt very homely like you might be in your grandmother's home. Two wonderful women ran the shop and you would know just by looking at them how much they were loving what they did and the establishment that they created. Really, really positive memories of a budding brilliant establishment. However, as time seems to pass, so does the quality of some restaurants or so it would seem. A couple of friends and I swung by to have dinner late on Saturday afternoon after getting a little soaked and disheveled from the wind and rain, and when we arrived, the maître d' was no where to be found. We stood at the entrance for a good few minutes before she appeared from the back realizing there were new guests upfront. I have to say with all of my heart and soul - this woman was wretched. There were a handful of open tables, including one family who was just leaving, and this woman did everything in her power to ensure we were not on the waiting list and that we would and could not be seated until 9:30 despite again available tables and having arrived there before 6. She was snotty, judgmental of our literally weather-ridden appearances, and was trying her best to get rid of us as not to deface the restaurant's image. How ironic that grandmother's house has become so elitist in the time since I've been away. Besides the extremely awful service akin to some Fox reality television show, a lot of the former ambience appears to have since dissipated as well. The restaurant seemed extremely overcrowded with more tables than ever before covering floor space that used to be an open waking area, and what used to seem cozy looked now to be taken over by an overwhelmingly boisterous amassing of guests crammed into not nearly enough square footage. It was really so tight that it'd make you question if they're even breaking the fire code maximum occupancy test. I really want to give them a 1-star experience after the extreme change Fiorella's taken in the past few years to the extreme rudeness and indignity we were forced to endure yesterday, but I'll keep it a 2, only for the sweet positive memories of what a wonderful restaurant it originally was. read more

I am so happy that I came here! It was so good and a lovely place to catch up with Adam's grandpa over dinner. We came on a Friday evening and it was pretty empty. It is a bit weird to be at the market empty and since it was, parking was super easy. We made reservations but we would have been able to be seated right away. The waiter who helped us was friendly and very kind. He was around just the right amount. Our food was really great! I got spaghetti and meatballs and Adam got a pizza. They were great servings and everything tasted fabulous. In the end Adam and I got a vanilla gelato to share. It is a bit expensive but it is a great experience that you are also paying for. I ordered the special (grilled lobster over risotto with fresh clams in a clam sauce) and my friend ordered the pasta scampi. Both were delicious and there were no leftovers! Drink list was simple but effective, they offer seasonal featured drinks on top of the drink menu. Wine is served in a quartino to give you an authentic Italian experience. When deciding on somewhere to go on Friday night we remembered that Firorella was on our list of places to try given we had heard good reviews about this restaurant in the Public Market. With a reservation in hand (it looked essential on a weekend) we arrived to an already buzzing scene. One note: in winter ask for a table as far away from the door as possible - it was a cool autumn evening and every time the door opened the whole place got cold and we were halfway into the restaurant. In winter it must be freezing by the door even with the drapes... Our server was excellent she explained the whole concept of Fiorella, the wine portions, the specials, etc. Given there were a lot of special terms and descriptions the menu did need some translating. She was attentive throughout the evening and kept us apprised of the status of our food. I did like the quartino portion for the wine - about a glass and a half. Seemed perfect when you want more than one glass but not quite two. Two in our party ordered a couple of the pasta dishes and they deemed them to be very good. I had the brick chicken and it was moist and flavorful. My base test of a kitchen is if they cannot do chicken without drying it out there are other problems. The pizza with smoked mozzarella (their version) was really different and our pizza expert loved it. Overall a nice change of pace from the typical ROC Italian scene. read more

I have been to Fiorella several times in the last year. They have become my favourite Italian place in town. Their flavours are exactly what I like in Italian food (aka not Chicken French). You can safely bank on the following on every visit: 1) Fantastic service (They are really sweet and efficient.) 2) Fantastic pizza (The only place in town I eat the pizza crust.) 3) Fantastic pasta (All pasta is housemade. The cacio e pepe is love and absolutely worth the carb bomb.) 4) The best chocolate olive oil cake ever. 5) Light and balanced seasonal cocktails. 6) A wait if you are not smart enough to make a reservation (I am often not). You can usually get a seat at the bar instead. They also have bombolini (fried italian doughnuts served with a dipping sauce) at lunch time. Do order dessert at lunch. Don't wear black because you will get powdered sugar on yourself. Note that you are not going to find the usual Rochester "red sauce Italian" dishes here (eg. Chicken French, Chicken Parm, etc). They keep the flavours light and the quality high. You definitely pay a little extra for that but it is well worth it. Just remember to make a reservation for dinner! read more

We headed out to the public market and were looking for some real food. I popped in to this restaurant early in the day for a gelato for my son. The flavor was "Fiorella" which they said is vanilla. I tasted it and it was very good. Molto delizioso! After walking around the market and noticing lots of fast food places, we went back in for a proper meal. When we walked in it was very crowded. The waitresses walk so fast they can knock you over! You get in line to order and get a number for your table. You sit down and wait for the food to be delivered. I asked a few people in mine what thy thought. Most were new customers but one man said he enjoyed the pizza there. We ordered the eggplant sandwich with white bean purée, margherita pizza and the little donuts. We also got two sodas-one coke in a glass bottle and a lemon San Pellegrino fizzy drink. The wait wasn't too long. The pizza was very good. Awesome flavor. It was a tad undercooked though--just a tad. Very thin and like a traditional Neapolitan pizza. The sandwich had a great toasted banquette and the flavor inside was very good. The eggplant was cooked perfectly. The donuts come with a little fruit purée dip. Not too sweets so they hit the spot. The interior is very nice. It has a nice European feel. The person who takes the orders is very knowledgeable and kind. She even told me where to find good parking. The water and napkins etc are around the corner. They are a bit hard to see. I think when the place is less crowded the waitstaff can be more helpful with extra dishes and napkins. But if it is truly an "order and sit down" type of place your expectations for service shouldn't be high. I would go again. This is located at the Rochester public market. If you go, park in that parking lot across the street. Be aware there will be lots of crowds. They are manageable though. read more

My husband and I ate here tonight, overall our experience was mixed. The service was amazing- initially when I called for a reservation they said they were booked and could put me on a waitlist, then almost immediately we received a call saying they could fit us in. Our server was very helpful and enthusiastic, she accommodated our requests for timing of the food which we really appreciated. The food itself was...ok. we started with the white bean dip which was mostly tasteless, but the fried seafood (fritto misto) was phenomenal. Fresh and hot and so yummy. I ordered the pappardelle, based on some Yelp reviews saying it was the best pasta ever. It was...ok. the pasta itself was great, but there were so many peas and carrots it felt like a Shepard's pie was thrown in. Wish I had more focus on the mushrooms. Came here on Friday 2/22/19 for an 8:30 dinner reservation and had the most enjoyable dining experience I've had in a while here in Rochester. I'd recommend making reservations on weekends as this place is fairly tiny and when we got there every table was full. Our server was Hillary and she was nothing but friendly and attentive. Loved her! We had a bottle of the house wine, the green salad (SO good and a generous portion to split), the pappardelle (their version is super wide noodles that you have to cut instead of twirl on your fork. A perfect dish) and the pizza special with pepperoni and hot honey. I ate here with a business associate of mine last night and we had an exceptional meal from start to finish. Food tastes so good when its simple. I don't mean simple in a bad way, I mean when you use quality ingredients there isn't a need to over complicate a dish. Case in point, I ordered the Cacio e pepe and it was once of the best pasta dished I've had in a very long time. There are literally four ingredients. Pasta, which was homemade spaghetti, cracked black pepper, Pecorino cheese, a little pasta water all topped with breadcrumbs. It was exceptional. Simple and exceptional, because they use super fresh, quality ingredients. My co worker ordered the fresh made Mafaldine, Olga's mushrooms, broccoli pesto, and whipped ricotta dish and that was also amazing. I will definitely be back to try the pizza. The runners kept blowing by us bringing out pizzas and they looked delicious. Very cool place with fantastic food. Do yourself a favor make a reservation as they fill up very fast. Probably one of the best additions to the area since Cure. I can't get over how great my first experience was which is why I gave it a high rating. I started following Fiorella on Instagram (@restaurantfiorella) recently. They posted a picture of their Thursday special and I could not resist making it my first stop after coming to the Public Market for some honey. The $9 special was "Organic housemade tagliatelle with @smugtownmushrooms oyster & shitake mushrooms, garlic, fried egg, pecorino & squash blossoms." And boyyy was it tasty! My buddy and I could not stop mMMMm'ing at eachother over how delicious the pasta was...which I believe was also gluten-free. Unbelievably fresh, light and satisfying. The ingredients it was tossed in were equally as decadent and balanced in flavor. The mushrooms were very succulent and absorbed the taste well. BUT the sunny side up egg was the topping of all toppings since pepperoni on pizza. Not sure where they sourced the egg, but I would like to adopt that chicken! The dine-in style is place order and wait until they call your name for pickup. The lunch rush hadn't yet arrived so they were able to bring our meals to our table. It is VERY casual so don't expect china and silverware. Our meals came in carton containers with checkered wax paper a'la food truck with plastic cutlery. The place is very casual but really chic. As Naz B mentioned before, the airy and light setting will have you falling in love. The wall pieces were cute and eye catching too (shout out to the boom box timeline!). Guys, the pizza here is unreal. How can something with just a few ingredients taste this good? With that statement, naturally I'm going to recommend getting that for your meal or to split with your dining companions as I did. The rosso was pizza perfection. Flavorful crust and you can taste that hint of salt. The tomato sauce is light and rich with acidity to complement the fresh, melted hunks of mozzarella, and a subtle leaf of basil strewn about. Homemade pasta is another must-try! I had the tagliatelle, which was great (lots of leftovers!), but preferred the bold, spicy flavors in the seafood ziti and the spaghetti and meatball - classic, but done well. As for the space, it's open, clean, and simple. I think all the tables and chairs were made by Staach. I can't wait for another trip back to try everything else, including the brunch! It's clear that the staff and ki then care about pure dishes, made from the best ingredients. The public market location is fitting for that reason. Kudos to the chef! read more
