I informend them of this. After the horrible first exam, they set up an appointment for me to come back to try contacts. I waited in waiting room, never saw the Dr. ( Thank You ) , I go upstairs where they inform me that they don't have any of the contacts, that she prescribed, for me to try on. You guys set up the appointment. Are you telling me that the Dr couldn't have looked at my exam before I got there and chose the contacts prior to my appointment. My sister had taken off of work. What a waste of time! I go have my new glasses made because I am desperate. Costing me almost $700. I start getting really bad headaches. My primary care dr suggest I get my eyes checked again. There is no way I am going back to Winchester Eye Specialists. I head to LensCrafters Dr. Hong. Great man and Dr. the prescription Dr. Garringer gave me was so very wrong and I have to get new lenses costing me an additional $700. I am so mad because I then receive a bill from Winchester Eye Specialists saying what I paid them for the exam was not enough and they want an additional $100.00. Are you kidding me?????!!!!!! After they treated me so poorly, wasted my time and gave me the wrong prescription. I tried to reason with them explaining all the issues and how I felt I had given them enough money for such horrible service. They insisted the money was owed and that it would be sent to collections ruining my wonderful credit. I explained that I would shout it from the mountaintops how I feel cheated, bullied and would make sure everyone I know would never to go there and that is what I am doing. Trust me, for better cost and service go to Dr. Hong at the Apple Blossom Mall. He is excellent.

In the last two years I've had three appointments with this team. The Doctors and the techs have…read morebeen professional and caring, but the workers at the front desk are HORRIBLE. They ALWAYS act as if you are interfering on their day; they ignore you as long as they possibly can, give you heavy sighs as you speak, don't make eye contact EVER, and give you a general feeling that you are the worst person they have ever had to deal with. Each time I visit, I leave wondering why I bother to give them my custom. My husband thought I over blow how rude they are, until he went yesterday. He was stunned!

Retina Associates is an excellent group practice; each of the physicians and all of the techs are…read morehighly competent. We have experienced their capacity for empathy and for providing clear explanations. My husband has Type II diabetes. He started having difficulty with his vision which had always been excellent nearly three years ago. At first he thought it was just age-related near vision loss that can make reading and using a computer difficult. An excellent Winchester optometrist, Dr. Michael Dieboldt, OD, closely examined my husband's left retina, and disturbed by what he saw, referred him to Retina Associates on the Valley Health campus in Winchester. Jason Ruggiero, MD, attended Brown University as an undergraduate, attended Medical School at New York University, interned at Yale's St. Raphael Hospital, was a resident at the University of California at San Francisco and studied at the Schier Eye Institute, University of Pennsylvania, was the first to examine and diagnose my husband's condition: retinal branch vein occlusion. Dr. Ruggiero explained what was happening, that the retinal damage cannot be cured, but it can be carefully monitored and treated so the swelling and seepage from the blocked blood vessels is controlled. The condition must be carefully monitored and treatment adjusted as indicated. What was once an intractable conditon that ultimately led to blindness can be managed and what remains of the vision can be preserved. Because so many seniors in the Shenandoah Valley region have Type II diabetes, Retina Associates treats many patients and at times, the waiting room can be quite full because a staff member may be called in by the Winchester Emergency Room physicians after a shooting or serious eye injury. Of course, these are unpredictable situations and patients need to be aware that they can occur. One additional point, my husband or I have been seen by every member of the physician team at Retina Associates, and all of the techs and nurses have been excellent. It is important to realize that this is a team, and teams have to function well together in order to provide optimum care to patients. After well over two years, if I could give this team a 10-rating, I would. They are a superb health care team.

I believe that the doctor who repaired a retinal tear for me did a good job. His personality has…read morebeen difficult to deal with however. In my first visit he told me I was "a terrible patient" (his words exactly). At my subsequent visits, his manner has been fast and icy cold. Zero bedside manner. He announced I had Macular degeneration, and when I gently enquired about it, he was dismissive, in a hurry, and very touchy. Avoid him. The woman doctor I had once when he was away was gentle, no pain whatsoever.
