Negative experience started with extremely limited handicapped parking - I was forced to use a non-handicapped spot and struggle with access to the building. Long wait, rushed and sloppy exam resulting in a bad prescription. (Admittedly I have difficult eyes, severe nearsightedness, presbyopia AND severe astigmatism - but that's all the more reason not to rush the eye exam!!!) This is one of the worst doctor's offices I have ever been to (and I've been to quite a few in my lifetime). I only went there because my health insurance changed and this doctor's office accepted my new health insurance. I parked my vehicle in their parking lot and one of their employees knocked on my window and yelled at me to move my vehicle because where I was parking was blocking a spot for one of their disabled employees who needed to get out of their vehicle. I understood what she was saying but her rudeness was quite a turn off. The rudeness continued with the entire staff. I thought (based on making the appointment) that Dr. Mclaughlin was an ophthalmologist and she is an optometrist and really had no idea how to treat my optic nerve condition and was going to refer me to the University of Virginia. Dr. Mclaughlin put fear into me only because she is incompetent. I will never go to this doctor's office again. Very rude staff and a very incompetent doctor. I went back to the eye doctor - an ophthalmologist - that I had been seeing for many years - and even though I'm self paying for his services, it's worth it to have his competence and kind staff. read more

I had a question regarding billing of this facility for a Medicare patient whom I have been working with through his Medical Provider. It was an useless automated system that did not permit you to select anything regarding billing. Nor did they offer an operator to direct the call to the appropriate person. It took 2 weeks to get an appointment. Arrived 5 minutes early for the appointment and there were 14 -- yes 14 -- people in the waiting room ahead of me. I sat in the waiting room for a full hour; finally asked the woman sitting next to me what time her appointment was - it was 20 minutes BEFORE my appointment and she was still waiting to be seen. By now a mere 10 people were ahead of me in the waiting room. I asked the front desk when I might be seen, and she could only smile and tell me they were running behind. I left. They will charge me $50 if I miss my appointment because their time is valuable; well, so is mine. I'll find a new eye doctor. read more

Would recommend. I was having terrible dry eyes, and saw Dr. Eisele, she was able to quickly figure out what we needed to do and I've had no issues since them. Also was able to get a new pair of glasses and sunglasses there, at first the lenses seemed a little off (which is normal to have some adjustments needed) so they were able to quickly adjust them and even gave me an extra carrying case since they noticed i had both pairs in one case! I no longer go to Eye Associates of Winchester. I did not read reviews beforehand, they accepted the insurance I had at the time so I just went with it. The wait time was really long. The tech took me back, she almost immediately put the drops in my eyes to dilate them. I was sent back into the waiting room for another long wait. Finally when I was taken back, my eyes were already completely dilated before even seeing the "doctor." She was then taking me through a couple tests. The first being attempting to read various letters. Keep in mind my eyes are completely dilated.. of course I can't read anything properly! I was written a prescription and sent on my way. I went to LensCrafters to get my actual glasses. They made them to the prescription I was written. When I got the glasses, everything looked extremely magnified and it made my eyes feel like they were jittering and everything seemed off. I was told "oh, you just need time to adjust." Ok, so I gave them a shot. They made me feel so sick. Something did NOT feel right. I called EAW (Eye Associates of Winchester) and set another appointment. I went in, once again, long wait times. Doctor came in and was like ok let's go through the tests again, no dilation this time. She switches the slides too fast that you don't really know what's clear and not. But at the end she was like "oh wow, your prescription was more than double what it needed to be." ... YOU WROTE THE PRESCRIPTION!!! She gave me a new prescription, I got the new glasses, still didn't feel "perfect" but it was better than it was. I went to a new eye doctor (Valley Vision) today and they made me realize how completely unprofessional, uneducated, and not thorough EAW really is. I will never ever go back to EAW. Went there to get my eyes looked at because of problems with prk laser vision correction. Dry painful eyes ect. Drove in from berryville and got in early. They checked me in and I saw the nurse. Checked eye pressure and then put me in doctors waiting room. This is where the issue started. I waited there for 45 minutes before the guy showed up. 45 minutes. No one came on and said anything. I got pissed off and was about to leave when the doctor showed up. Looked like he was in high school. He says sorry real quick and explaines he moving. I don't give a damn about his personal problems. He looked at my Eyes for maybe 2 minutes and said try some ridiculous expensive eye drops. My Insurance won't even cover it. Dr. McLaughlin is phenomenal!! She was very efficient and informative. She adjusted my glasses prescription and my vision is more crisp and clear than before. She also took the time to explain everything to me. The whole staff was very nice and very accommodating. I would recommend Dr. McLaughlin and her team to anyone. read more

On May 19, 2022, I had an appt with Eye Associates in Winchester, VA. There were only TWO people in the waiting room. I got paper work to fill out and a mask. I sat down away from the TWO people and pulled my mask down so I could breath. The receptionist came up from behind and rudely said put your mask up. I did so. Then she came back again and rudely, not friendly, told me my Military ID was no good. My Military ID is good .Nothing that I suggested appeased her. So I told her to just use my Medicare Card. A third woman came to harrass me about the mask that was pulled down just under my nose.She was very biligerant. I said I was sorry for causing distress but I have rights too !! I asked if I could wait in my car until my appt. time and she said very angrily and disrespectfully "I'll just cancel your appt" and she did and told me to leave the building. I called back to speak with the ofc. manager and when asked my name, the girl answering the phone said,"oh yea, hold on". I was put on hold for an extended period of time, and NO ONE assisted me. I also signed a paper saying that if I cancelled my appt. in less than 24 hrs. that I would be charged $50. I believe that NOW they owe me for canceling my appt., for time wasted , frustration and gas money!! I DO NOT recommend this office to anyone. No customer care here. I always was under the impression that people in a Dr.'s ofc should be compassionate, loving and kind. Everyone has an off day, BUT..... These people were "Control addicts" !! So, I had a scheduled appointment--one I waited for weeks. I arrived early and went in and filled out my paperwork. Another patient arrives without an appointment due to some mix-up (no fault of mine) and they take her instead of me. Apparently, Dr. Lein didn't value me as a patient nor does he need my patronage. I left. And, I left not because I wasn't taken first. I left because I was not asked if it was okay. Instead, they just took the other patient--who, again, didn't have an appointment--over me, a patient with an appointment. The office floor was dirty and even had a bug crawling around. My very first appointment was set up for a Tuesday from the week prior to that. The Friday before my appointment, I was in the urgent Care because I had that bad flu with 102° fever. I was feeling so bad, I thought my appointment was on Monday, so I called and cancelled it on Sunday, leaving my name and phone number. Tuesday I get a call from them asking me if I was cancelling my appointment for Tuesday and not Monday....I said "Yes". Three weeks later, I get a bill for a "no show". Wow. I called the number on the bill and explained the situation, then proceeded to call the eye office to give them an earful. The billing office called back and said it was to be "written off", instead of being backed out of the system. They still make money off of me whether I showed or not, due to a tax loophole. Nice. I'm certainly glad there are doctors out there who care SO much about the individual and not the $$'S involved : / Needless to say, I'll find another doctor. read more

I see multiple eye doctors for the chronic dry eye that has plagued my life since I first felt the effects of ocular rosacea a little over a year ago. I live in Arlington, VA, but my favorite eye doctor is actually Dr. Eisele in Winchester. I drive there routinely for MiboFlo treatments, which are only offered at two practices in the state. (MiboFlo is a much more cost effective dry eye treatment than Lipiflow, in my opinion, because a technician operates a small wand directly to place a high but safe level of heat on your eye lids and unclog those glands while Lipiflow is a machine that cannot be individually set for different sized people/lids. Also, with MiboFlo, they manually express the lids later to guarantee as many glands as possible get unclogged to start properly functioning again.) I see a real difference every time I have this procedure done, and the people there always make me feel heard and do their best to address the stress that often exudes from dry eye sufferers like myself. It is completely worth the 1.5 - 2 hour drive for this procedure and the service I experience each time I visit Eye Associates of Winchester. There is always a long wait as Dr. Eisele's time is highly sought after for her expertise, but it is worth it for the time she takes to evaluate you and treat you thoroughly. All of the staff there also make you feel welcome and will do their best to help you however they can, and they do it with a smile. Graham and Dara are very knowledgeable and accessible as well, and both have helped me outside of the office in moments of panic related to my eyes. I have never had a bad experience there. I always feel a little better both physically and emotionally when I leave that office, which for me means a lot, since having this condition can really affect your quality of life and subsequently how you feel about it. read more
