The price they quoted me was around $3,000, and I've included some pictures below. What concerns me most is the lack of trust I now have in their recommendations. I previously hired this company to do tuckpointing work for me. About three years later, I contacted them about touching up a few areas, and I was told the work was already in bad shape. When I reminded them that they were the ones who had performed the original work, the response was essentially, "Oh, we can just repair these couple of bricks. It's not a big deal." After that experience, and now being presented with what I believe is an unnecessarily expensive repair, I simply don't feel comfortable doing business with this company anymore. When you hire a company and spend good money on their work, you expect fair pricing, honest recommendations, and quality workmanship. Unfortunately, that's not the experience I had.

Replaced chimney cap and new stainless steel liner installed…read more We called to have them replace a chimney cap that had fallen off and asked them to check our chimney attached to the hot water heater. We knew there was a leak, and weren't sure if we needed a cleaning or a new liner. They came out and took pictures of the inside showing us where the old clay liner had collapsed and was blocking the venting. They installed the liner, gave us a new chimney cap, cleaned out all the debris inside (we were shocked at how much crud there was inside) and they even sealed the hole in the wall. They did a phenomenal job and the workman kept the house clean and tidy. We also have a fireplace that won't work because it shares another chimney with our furnace, and they gave us several options to get our fireplace working again. We plan on using them for that work in the future.

"What's that burning smell?" Running to the (new to me) Majestic gas fireplace I saw a large scorch…read moremark on the fire panels and quickly turned it off. I took some photos and sent them to the fireplace company that last serviced the unit. They had no answer as to what caused this and left me wondering what to do next. There are only a handful of companies who will even touch a Majestic fireplace I sadly discovered while trying to find someone else to come to see this mystery. Undaunted, I insisted the original company return to the scene and help me out. Weeks later, their technician arrived: turned it on, turned it off and as he departed with a quizzical look on his face, he handed me a business card for Valor Chimney. I sent the same photos to Dave from Valor at the email address on the card, and his team called and arranged an onsite visit to check things out. Valor sent text verification of the appointment and reminders too. Dave and his assistant were on time and very courteous. During my initial inspection, Dave seemed to think the problem might be up on the roof, and they took a peek providing a report along with a set of photos to show me what was going on at the completion of their visit. Back in the house Dave explained how the venting was installed, the problem that I was having with the vent on the roof which contributed to the issue inside, and what was needed to thoroughly clean and service this fireplace. ("Didn't the other company just do that?" I now wondered) He was also kind enough to remove a dead bird who found its way into the enclosed fireplace after the vent cap was inspected. A thorough estimate was provided and the appointment was set on the spot along with my deposit to install a new 'efficient' vent cap, an appropriate cleaning of the entire system and a repainting too. Then the Covid-19 Stay At Home Order was issued and only 'essential businesses' were exempted. Lucky for me, that meant that Valor was coming to my home to help me out - a day earlier than we had originally scheduled! I watched as my fireplace components were thoroughly disassembled and cleaned, the entire time the process was explained to me. The interior chamber cleaning located some unexpected house guests including a mummified grasshopper, (a first in his book Dave commented), some spider's nests (so that's where they were coming from last spring), and what looked like Mothra's baby cousin. After everything was cleaned inside, new (stinky!) fire-resistant paint was carefully applied to the chamber and components (yay, no overspray!). As the paint was drying, the service continued outside,the system was also cleaned from the top down and the new cap was installed. A final assembly of the components inside along with clean-up, a detailed bill, warranty explanation and payment followed. The service report with photos arrived almost immediately. Despite its age, the fireplace is safe, looks brand new with a spiffy paint job inside and on the roof a shiny new cover with no chance of unexpected bird visitors and better ventilation gleams in the sun. I am very impressed with Valor Chimney Services and highly recommend them. The best service I got from 'the other guys' was the referral for Valor, my new go-to fireplace and chimney vendor. Thanks guys.. I really am 'cozy' now. :)
