We we're having trouble with our direct vent fireplace as the pilot wouldn't stay on and the fireplace would not light. We contacted The Retired Fireman and it took some time to set up an appointment which has a $200 service call. It was expected that the the service call would be paid before he stepped foot into our house. When he did come for a service call, he indicated that he could fix it but it would be very expensive and he couldn't guarantee that it would continue to work. He called Majestic Fireplace in Elgin and gave us a quote of $1700 just for the new unit. it would cost close to $5000 for everything to be installed. We decided to wait and went to Majestic Fireplace for a quote. They were surprised that he suggested a new unit as they still carried the parts for the current unit that he had. Majestic sent out a technician who was able to get everything working and even check the vent on the roof. We had to pay their service call but at least they took the time to check everything out. Our fireplace is ready for the fall and winter months. I would not recommend The Retired Fireman as it appears that all he cares about is collecting the service fee and then makes it look like he checks everything out. Do not use this company unless you want to throw away your money!

My main problem with this company was their serious lack of communication with me. They would call when they were already in route and leave little information on what to expect. I was supposed to know the ins and outs of a chimney rebuild with NO explanations from the supposed professionals. I never really had any conversations with them unless they didn't show up and I would call to find out why. My 1st impression was on the day they were supposed to start work here, after waiting 6 weeks, they requested to push the job back 2 more days. When I was not happy about that idea, Lenny said Ok they would start the next day. The next day Ethan showed up late, set up some scaffolding and then left at 10:30 never to return. Elite had successfully pushed my job back the 2 days they originally wanted in a very sneaky way, by pretending they were starting my job. I really don't appreciate a company that I have hired to act in such an unprofessional manner, thinking they pulled a fast one on their client. Nothing was ever communicated to me through the entire rebuild. Oh, but the day they finished they could knock on the door because final payment needed to be made. The invoice was in my email promptly the next morning. Previously they would maybe show up, maybe not a couple times with no explanation at all. This company felt no need to communicate with the client unless they wanted something. If I questioned something I was an annoyance to anyone associated with Elite. I was a non person with a checkbook to them. Not the kind of company I like to hire for a company with the highest quote! I could not tell you about the quality of the actual rebuild , I was relieved the stress was over. I certainly would not recommend Elite to anyone because in my opinion they are terribly unprofessional and did nothing to educate me about the process, did not like being questioned and after they received final payment reached out so they didn't get a bad review. Gino and another colleague came on November 19 and did the job in about 30 min. I was a bit surprised they were done so quick, but they explained it was so expensive because of the height of the roof. I have been waiting for my invoice including the warranty now for almost 1 1/2 months. Despite several emails back and forth I haven't yet received it. I cannot say much about the quality of the work but the difficulties in getting the invoice give rise to doubt about the professionalism. I will update this review should I hear back from Illinois Chimney & Masonry.

I was having a problem this last winter where my chimney appeared to be blocked. I had unsightly…read moresoot on some walls and ceiling and my Carbon Dioxide sensor went off. I was convinced an animal got in my chimney and built a nest blocking my fire exhaust. When they team came over they put a camera up the chimney and found nothing. The senior tech, Evan, asked me if there was any appliance changes in the house. And sure enough I had changed my furnace to a newer model and the source for combustion air came from my room air not the outside like my old furnace. So what was happening the furnace when on was looking for air and pulled it from my open flue when running the fireplace. So I need to have the furnace combustion air reconnect to the outside air source like my old furnace. They completely cleaned the chimney and even scrubbed the soot off the ceramic gas logs all for a reasonable price of $240. They also cover everything in the room so make sure there was no soot mess left in the room. Very professional.

Aelite is THE chimney company to have come out to your home. Nick and crew are insanely professional and clean. They took their shoes off without even asking, threw down tarps around all areas to be worked, and definitely did not take us for our money. As a matter of fact, I remember getting quoted double from another company at the same time for the same work. Nick's wife is the one who usually answers the phone and she's pretty incredible too!
