CM repaired our 6-flat's chimneys and installed chimney fans. The fans are unacceptably loud in my unit, even though I didn't have a fan installed for my fireplace. Scam artist. The first technician who came out for a an inspection told me that everything was perfect. He was knowledgeable and professional. The following year, last week, the technician was shady and obviously up to something. I just wanted him out of my house. He told me that I should tear my chimney off my house and build a new one and then sent me a quote for $20k. Interesting since the previous homeowner already did that work. I could rant about how dishonest he was but I'll keep it short. Run from this company of scam artists. read more

OK seriously, don't even consider anyone else to handle all your chimney/fireplace concerns. When we bought our home about 2 years ago, we had zero knowledge of the fireplace. We imagined it was as easy as buying some ceramic logs and a grate from Amazon, arranging them, and lighting it up. And that's what we had been doing until about 2 weeks ago when I noticed that it was burning really loud. A quick Google search diagnosed it as a "possible clogged burner." So, I took to Yelp to find someone who can help me. I requested multiple quotes, and was immediately impressed with the prompt, detailed communication I got from Chimney Monkey. They offered the "refresh" for $200 where they would replace the sand, lava rocks, and embers, while cleaning the burner and the logs. But when Dimitry arrived (right on time), we discovered that we actually had a gas-starting, wood-burning fireplace. So, we needed to convert it. Dimitry had the entire kit with him, so without thought, I decided to get it all taken care of. He installed a new line and tray, as well as all the necessary components. Now, we have peace of mind, and an AMAZING looking fireplace. Oh, and whisper quiet, too! I appreciated his professionalism, workmanship, honesty, politeness, and for taking the time to explain everything to me. Mike came out and was so friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable. He explained everything in detail. He told us our options, and there was absolutely NO pressure to do anything further. Do not waste your time with this company. I called them to make an appointment which they gave me a 30 minute window. 15 minutes after my window I called them and they did not answer. I called them again 15 minutes later, still no answer. Finally 1 hour and 15 minutes after my scheduled time they called and apologized for "oversleeping". Their hours are listed as 7AM to 9PM. Someone does not get to the office until 9:15? This is just sheer laziness and certainly not worthy of my business or yours. read more

We bought a new condo in August and it's the first place we've ever owned that had a fireplace (ventless gas insert), so I wanted to make sure it was in good working order before using it for any length of time. I requested an appointment with Chimney Monkey and they gave me an appointment time and quote over the phone. Don't use this company if you expect to have any sort of communication or response. We had them come out for an inspection September 18 and we're told we would get an estimate for repairs that were needed. I called and emailed several times over the next week and a half asking for out estimate. Then on September 29 someone came out again to do another inspection because the first one wasn't good enough. He told my husband we needed a lot of work done and would get us an estimate. Yet again we haven't heard back from anyone and have not received any estimates. read more

We just bought a house recently and wanted to use our fire place since its winter now. But we decided we should get it inspected first since its a fire wood burning chimney. I contacted them through yelp and they emailed me back within the same day giving me information and a general quote. I called them and scheduled an appointment which they had available for the end of the week (which was awesome). They came promptly on time (which is a good start), explained what needed to be done and answered all my questions. I ended up needing a chimney sweep which took about an hour for the whole the process. I also asked them about installing a gas non burning log to my fireplace which they can do for a fair price if interested. As they did the sweep they covered all the furniture so it wouldn't get dirty. After they finished they explained the whole process of turning on our fire place, which I appreciated tremendously. They even gave me a log so I know what to buy in case I don't have cut up wood logs lying around(which I don't lol). All in all these men provided excellent service, they came on time, and pricing was very fair. I don't understand why they don't have more reviews they were great! Definitely will use them again for our future chimney sweeps and recommend them to everyone! read more

I have some bricks crumbling apart at the bottom of my chimney in the basement which I believed to be from precipitation making its way into the chimney. I was warned that no matter what, "chimney guys" will tell you that you need a new liner and to be leery. I called them up on Monday, they sent the team to my house at 8am Tuesday (prompt arrival) and took a look at my chimney. They said it was in excellent shape and needed some very minor repairs and that the liner even looked good. After looking at the basement, they thought that the previous owners had some water damage from a faulty chimney and took care of business. They could have told me anything and I would have been at their mercy but they were very, very honest and I would recommend them to anybody reading this review and in need of some chimney help. Wanna talk about panic? We recently had a new furnace installed in our downstairs unit and for some reason it wasn't working. I don't know anything about furnaces, do you? After calling an HVAC company for inspection they referred us to get someone to look at our chimney. Apparently our furnace wasn't working because the safety feature was cutting on. Why you ask? The dude who installed it did a terrible job and didn't tell us the CO2 wasn't being vented out properly because we have 150 YEAR OLD CHIMNEYS. Like who has 150 YEAR OLD chimneys? Apparently we do. Chimney Monkey was out in a couple hours to take a peak at what they were looking at. The chimney was crap, the furnace installation was crap, everything was crap. We paid for the inspection and they sent us a quote to clean out the chimney and install a chimney liner, something that apparently you need and has been a law to have since like 1920. But our vintage chimney didn't have one. ANYWHO chimney monkey sent a very reasonable quote and was out to fix everything the next day. They worked so efficiently that I cannot get over how seamless everything went. The guys were great. We had our gutters being installed at the same time and everyone was respectful and worked around each other. I CANNOT RECOMMEND CHIMNEY MONKEYS ENOUGH. Art and Vitaly were amazing in every way. First, they carefully protected every aspect of our living room. They noticed that the fake coals under my gas logs were very dirty, so much so, that they might have to replace them. They told me the price and I approved. A little while later, I noticed them carefully going through the dirty coals and vacuuming them. When I asked, they said they determined that they did not need to be replaced and simply could be thoroughly cleaned. So, even with an approval from a customer to make more money, they did the honest thing. This is rare these days. Next, I see them in the front yard doing something. They were assembling a drone to examine our roof since it is very steep. With the drone, they quickly examined every aspect of the chimney and determined nothing needed addressing. This is a follow-up to my earlier review where I rated the service by Chimney Monkey a "1" due to damage done to my damper during a scheduled chimney cleaning and the lack of response when I reached out to report the problem. I'm happy to report that Chimney Monkey was in contact with me after my review and came out quickly to remedy the problem with my damper. The technician worked on the damper problem for several hours yesterday and was successful in repairing the damper. Very impressed with this firm, staff and ease of setting appointment on their website. I came across this firm in an on-line forum where they were recommended for dryer vent cleaning. I went on-line on a Friday at 5:30PM and was able to set up and schedule an appointment on-line. Super fast and easy. My scheduled time was a few days later on a Monday at 8AM - 9AM. When I received the e-mail confirmation I had a minor question, so I emailed and got an answer a few hours later, on a Friday night. So quite nice. The crew showed up on-time about 8:15AM and introduced themselves - Vitale and Alex. They were professionally dressed in company attire and completed the dryer vent cleaning within the time expected. They explained everything every step of the way. One dryer vents to our roof, so they went on the roof and cleaned everything very well. Inside they wore booties and put down tarps. Everything was very clean when they left. Very professional. The price quoted was the price charged. No efforts to upsell. I was really impressed with this company and crew. We're no better off than before we hired CM. 3 strikes and you're out. We smelled a gas leak after chimney cleaners left. After their work, an awful draft blows into room when flu opened and leaks a cold draft after it's closed. Hired a plumber to fix gas leak but fireplace unusable for weeks after their cleaning. I called Art to come back to make the lighting kit work right since it didn't after first cleaning. I scheduled for a return day without definitive time. He cancelled on that day and postponed to 5 days later but he again cancelled that appointment, 3 minutes after his arrival time. We're back to finding a different provider. read more
