I needed some Aprilaire humidifiers replaced in my home, and I planned to do the work myself, because I am reasonably handy, and this was literally a swap out job. There was no metal cutting, and the plumbing was identical and already in place. The electrical required a little more work to include some outdoor sensors that I wanted to add so that I would not have to monitor outdoor temps to prevent window condensation when it got cold. Anyway, I bought the units, but in the mean time I hurt my left shoulder and could not lift anything over my head. I could wait three months for my shoulder to heal, and then spend the estimated one hour per unit to change them out, but I wanted to get some humidity into the house yet this winter. I sent an email to 4 major HVAC companies in the Crystal Lake area. One never responded, and two quoted the job as if it were a brand new installation rather than nearly a drop-in replacement. It was clear that these companies were not interested in a 'small job' like this, so one ignored me, and the other two basically gave me 'go away' pricing. The 4th company, Artic Heating & Cooling, offered to stop by to review the installation, but they also said that I could send a few pictures of the currently installed units. I did the latter, and they had a quote back to me within hours. I was shocked to get a quote that was realistic and fair. I immediately called to schedule the work, and they were able to do it as quickly as the next day. Since this was not an emergency, we scheduled for the next week, which was just a few days before Christmas. Two technicians arrived, and they were very professional and efficient. They made very quick work of the project, and they hauled away the old equipment plus left a spotless workplace behind. I could not be happier. By the way, I also have two 20+ year old air conditioners that will need to be replaced, and my first call will be Artic. Our furnace stopped working after 25 years, in the middle of winter a couple years ago, I called Arctic Heating & Cooling. Jeff was at our house that same morning. They had to replace the furnace. The next day we were up and running. This summer, we noticed our Air Conditioning wasn't quite up to par, also about 25 years old. I called Arctic once again. I've had Arctic handle the maintenance on my furnace for a few years now. Always professional and works with me to schedule around my calendar. Keeps me informed if jobs before mine are running late and gives me the option to wait or reschedule.
