paddle boat docked at a dock

Docked our boat on a Saturday afternoon and walked into this massive steamboat looking thing! Was pretty interesting inside! Had the Buffett which was ok, I liked the ambiance the most.

Arguably Winneconne's pride and joy. Supper club, banquet hall and river cruiser. On Wolf River it is a beautiful place in the summer to sit in the patio. Their menu has everything from steaks to sandwiches. I ordered a Bloody Mary and it was delicious. The waitress was helpful and friendly. I ordered some poppers and a burger. I love this place because you can go in your jeans and be comfortable but if you want to get dressed up for a night on the town with your honey this place would work too. Cozy and intimate setting will give you the atmosphere you want. They also have a banquet room and a fun paddle boat you can rent for a dinner boat cruise. I will definitely be back.

This is a true Wisconsin institution. I used to come here when I was a little girl with my family as we boated up and down the Wolf River. It was fun to revisit this past Saturday for a wedding. The bar staff was attentive as we waited for the reception to start. Tv's in every corner played the Badger game. They even brought out an additional tv when one was not working. And while they had to dig deep to find my husband a Johnny Walker Black Label my Old Fashion was quickly served with cherries on top - and only $3.75. And when in Wisconsin, you ought to have an Old Fashion. The wedding reception was buffet style and the broasted chicken and baked fish were yummy. Someone told me the chicken tenders were like chicken jerkey but everything I tasted was great. I know the bride requested a kid friendly menu and my kids didn't complain. There was Kraft Mac and Cheese and corn dogs as well. Now this isn't a fine dining experience by any means. But for what it is, it is wonderful. And I would be remiss if I failed to mention the beautiful room. We were on the second floor in a hall that comfortably sat 100-150 people. Some tables had to come up to make room for the dance floor. The room itself is very nice with pine wood panelling but the wrap around windows over looking the river and Winneconne bridge are what make it special. The Bride was able to get in the night before and decorate the room herself which was nice for a budget minded wedding. My only complaint is they started packing up chairs and tables at 10:15pm. The wedding invite said the end time was 10:30 so I am not sure if there was some sort of arrangement made by the Bride but it did seem a bit abrupt to be rapidly kicked out in the 15 minute time frame. Most of us had kids with us including the Bride so it worked out just as well and we had a great time.

My husband and I are on a mission this summer, searching for the best Friday Fish Fry near us…read more After 10 Friday meals, Cattails is leading the way. The place is newer and very comfortable with a great bar, if you need to wait a bit for your table. We waited only 10 minutes and we did not mind. At all. A cut WAY above the rest are the Classic Old Fashioneds, served the way they should be -- heavy on your choice of bourbon and very light on the soda. (Definitely NOT Wisconsin Style.) I had a smoked Old Fashioned that was one of the best I've ever had! But the meal got better! A salad bar is not a requirement for a fish fry, but it sure goes a long way. Fresh, tasty, and a great way to start the meal. We both ordered the perch. I had a baked potato side and he had the fries. Best perch we've had -- light on breading, hot and not oily at all. Service was excellent and we decided to have a second Old Fashioned back in the bar for dessert. We'll be back!

You can't get that every where. That's why we love this place, the staff and owners are so friendly, a great hometown feel. Also they make great muddled old fashions and if you want something different try a smoked old fashion. You go to Cattails once I know your going go back.

We arrived around 4:30 pm on a Wednesday and were seated immediately for the two of us, which was lovely. I started with a filthy martini (one part vodka, one part olive juice)... and they nailed it. Exactly what I asked for. My mom ordered a whiskey old fashioned press, which she enjoyed. For appetizers, we ordered the French onion soup, deep-fried mozzarella, and bacon-wrapped scallops. My mom also had the soup of the day, which was a turkey pot pie soup. Everything was very good overall. One small note on the scallops, and this is important for context: I personally have a strong aversion to seafood, and my mom is usually careful not to order seafood around me because even the smell can make me nauseous. However, scallops are usually an exception, as they don't tend to have a strong seafood odor. In this case, there was no unpleasant smell at all, which I appreciated. That said, the scallops themselves appeared under-seared and very pale, and the bacon was undercooked. Not raw, just soft and not crispy. My mom agreed it could have used a few more minutes. A minor miss, but worth mentioning. For my entrée, I ordered the French dip, which came with carrots... and honestly, the carrots deserve their own moment. They were tiny, perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned, buttery, and balanced with just the right amount of sweet and salty. I love carrots, and these were exceptional. Highly recommend. My mom ordered a Wednesday special trio, which included barbecue ribs, pineapple glazed ham, and a turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. I'll note that the ham itself was delicious, but the pineapple glaze wasn't quite for me personally, as it leaned a bit too tangy for my taste. That said, the turkey was phenomenal. I had a bite, and it was moist, flavorful, and absolutely something I'll come back for. The mashed potatoes and gravy were excellent. I love stuffing, but this one wasn't my favorite; it tasted slightly sour or underdone to me, though that could simply be a preference thing. I'd still order the turkey dinner again without hesitation. Because it was my birthday, our server Jenny surprised me with a slice of chocolate cake, which was incredibly sweet and thoughtful. I was very full... but yes, I ate the cake, and it was delicious. We also split a Pink Squirrel for dessert, which was rich, nostalgic, and the perfect way to end the meal. Service was excellent throughout the evening. Jenny was warm, attentive, and paced everything perfectly. Food came out efficiently without overwhelming the table. The hostess was also welcoming and kind. The dining room was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The lighting was just right, not too dark. We also arrived at a great time, because shortly after our entrées came out, the restaurant quickly filled up. One small suggestion: the website mentions half-price apps and drink discounts, but it isn't clear that those specials are bar-area only. Not a huge issue for us, but clearer wording online would help manage expectations, especially for guests who can't sit at high bar seating. Overall, this was a really special dinner, especially after years of hearing about the Red Ox and never going. More positives than negatives by far. Final rating: 8.5 / 10 We'll absolutely be back... especially for the turkey dinner and those carrots.
