I had the steak salad - a 6 oz sirloin cooked medium rare on a bed of salad with fresh veggies and blue cheese crumbles - it was delicious. An old staple of Seeley Lake, it pains me to write this. Normally I'd give the place 5 stars for a great traditional American bar. Service has been great & it fits perfectly in the lake community. I've been coming here for 16 years & never had anything but a great time. In the past month we've been here, 2 out of 3 bartenders we've had were great. We've never experienced the problems listed below before. We found out today it depends on who is working. I thought it a bit odd when our IDs were thoroughly inspected (scratched at & both sides reviewed) since we're in our late 30's. Everything from there went well for a bit. The bartender even came over & talked with us for a decent amount of time since it was pretty dead. An odd conversation I overhead was the bartender refused to serve a Jaeger bomb to another customer for "liability reasons." I understand the dropping a glass in a glass thing but why not use plastic or have them dump the Jaeger into the cup instead dropping the shot glass in? Lots of other bars do that. All the friendly conversation ended fast when I ordered another drink & was told we were refused service. She said we weren't doing anything wrong nor did we appear drunk but she had served us 15 drinks & had to make the call. I thought we'd been there about 5 hours & I mentioned that, she said it was 3 (I've got a lunch receipt from across the street that says it was 3.5 so I'm wrong). I didn't want to get into how our vodka/sodas tasted a bit weak so I just paid the check & left. I know it's a judgement call for a bartender but I've never heard of cutting off a loyal patron because they ordered too much, but didn't do anything wrong, & weren't drunk. If that were the normal standard at the Filling Station they would have to kick out their entire 4th of July crowd. It's a bit sad whether if we visit one of our favorite places near the cabin will depend on who is working. Everyone else there, I can't wait to come back again! read more

You can't ask for a better small town bar! Such a fun place to sing some karaoke, watch the game, get some food, or just drink the night away with your buddies! Great stuff! We stopped in for lunch. Ordered simple...French dip and a grilled ham & cheese sandwich. We weren't expecting much but, these were very good. Good service as well. "Good stuff, Maynard!!" Stopped for lunch during our journey from Glacier NP to Grand Teton NP. We had GREAT sandwiches, much better than expected! It was the w/e of the Little League World Series, the West title game (MT vs. CA) was playing in the bar area. My son and I were the only two in the place rooting for the CA team from our hometown, Huntington Beach!! Although in hostile territory, we had fun cheering as our Ocean View Little League boys punished MT's best 5-1. Again, the food was very good, the company even better!! Typical Americana cafe in a tourist town, but the wait staff treats you like you're a local and takes great care of you. Our meal today was French dip and side salad for my husband and a taco salad for me. He raved over the sandwich and my taco salad was a perfect mix of meat and lettuce with the usual extras. As an added bonus, because I usually stop here after camping in the nearby woods, the bathrooms are extra clean with plenty of soap and hot water. I've never had a bad meal or bad service in two decades of regular summer stops. read more

Overall a terrible dining experience. Poor customer service, took an hour to get our food and when it came out most of it was cold. Don't order the nacho fries (The cheese is awful). Asked for waters to drink and were never given them, and aside from having our order taken we were never checked on by our server. read more

We ate here twice during our stay in Seeley Lake. The first time was in the evening, and it was busy, so the approximately 45 minute wait for our meal was acceptable. However, we had two people join us later, and they had to wait almost an hour for a burger, and the crowd had thinned considerably. The second time, we stopped in mid-afternoon for appetizers. Our waters never got refilled, the waitress was very rude to a person who joined us a few minutes later, and the quantity/quality of the appetizers was disappointing. $7 for about a dozen mini sweet potato tots? We got more as a side with our meals the previous visit. Management had better take a good look at the service and portions if they intend to stay open. read more

I waited for an hour for my burger. We had a table of four. No one was served at our table, nor were we approached by the wait staff with an apology or an explanation. Our waters were bone dry after 30 minutes and still, no help from the staff. A couple people trailed in and were served but we were not the only table that was ignored after we placed our order. However, we noticed some people who came in after us ordered, were served and paid but we had still not received our food. We got up to leave but the waitress assured us our food was coming. It came within minutes but was cold. From what we could tell, it was nothing special. Just average. read more

Don't waste your time. My husband, son and I waited more than an hour for our food after we ordered. The restaurant had four tables with customers. We finally left without being served. I have eaten at the Filling Station many times over the years, as I spend parts of my summer in the Seeley-Swan region each year. I have found that the workers and customers are often either overtly hostile or merely very unfriendly to non-local customers. I recommend that people from out the area not do business there. In late May, one of my daughters and her friends (from California, New York, Hawaii, and other states) were greeted by restaurant staff with over hostility. These women were all around 30 years old and well-mannered. When a woman working there saw that one of the young women had a California driver's license, the restaurant worker said, "let's get a rope." When her coworker saw that another of my daughter's friends had a Hawaii driver's license, the co-worked said under her breath, "bitch." I see no reason to give money to a business that treats people this way. The business is open to interstate travelers but treats them very poorly. Save your money for more deserving businesses. read more

This place should be on Chef Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. I went for a hike with my family on Mother's Day. We were famished after the long hike and came in for a meal. We waited over two hours for our food. No explanation from the waitress. Two or three other families waited as long as well. While we were waiting a group came in. Their food came out swiftly and the waitress brought the mother of the group flowers. This was the only reason I didn't walk out. I found out later from our waitress that she was the restaurant manager! She cared not that the rest of the customers were sitting with nothing their entire meal. My tired kids were starving and we could have driven the hour home and back by the time the food was served. When it finally came out my husbands burger was raw and my daughters fried sweet potato tots were burned. My food didn't come out with everyone else's. When my fried fish finally did come out it was still frozen in the middle. By this time I was biting back tears so my children wouldn't be upset. They wanted me to have a great Mother's Day. I showed the waitress my raw fish. She didn't offer to recook it or refund/discount my meal. I have never ever sent food back but this was inedible. The waitress was very rude and seemed very out of it. My husband thought she might be on drugs.Literally the worst service and food I have ever encountered. We are native Montanans and spend a lot of time in the Seely-Swan Valley. I will never ever eat there again and warn friends and family about it. They seem much more concerned with their bar and should probably shut down the restaurant portion. read more

We stopped here on our way to Glacier NP coming from Helena - it was a long drive with few lunch options, so we were thrilled to find a "family restaurant" (albeit one with a casino). Two hours later, we STILL didn't have our food, nor did other patrons. And it wasn't that crowded, either. The waitress and the manager were less than apologetic, either, when we (and a few other tables) questioned the wait, saying it was more crowded than it seemed because of the bar/casino. I didn't see a lot of other people in those parts, but whatever. The food was.. okay.. but the service was so awful and it significantly slowed our journey. This happened two weeks ago, but I had to wait until I was back home with decent wifi to write the review. And we are all still very annoyed we wasted our valuable time and money at this restaurant. After a much anticipated lunch in a beautiful part of the country, we were very disappointed. Service, to coin a National Park term, was "Glacial". We easily spent 90 minutes looking at empty drink glasses and waiting for the disinterested waitress to come over and tell us why things were taking so long. Several other tables waited as long as we did and I heard them talking about it as well. Sit down right now and wait for 90 minutes and see what you think - it's no way to run a restaurant. And the place was not even busy, not even close - and worse still - both the waitress and the manager didn't care in the slightest. The food was unremarkable. Whomever owns that place needs to decide if they want to stay in business - because with that way of running it they will not be. read more
