Came here on Super Bowl Sunday for a fun fam outing. We were able to get ressies for 4 at noon as we were driving there. With any beach, parking can either be tricky or expensive. But by the grace of God, as we were getting ready to begin our search for parking, a guy walking past us flagged us down and told us he's leaving. Now, this was the tricky part that involved parallel parking. Even in my Tesla with cameras at all angles, I am unwilling to try. Got out and traded with the hubs. 'Twas a success! :) aaaaaand it was super close to the restaurant! The restaurant is supes kewt. We opted to sit outside and we got a table right by the Venice pedestrian path. Enjoyed the vocal stylings of "Stoopid Art" or something like that lol. My 1.5 year old enjoyed pointing out all the dogs that walked by. There was a heat lamp that kept our seats outside nice and comfy. We ordered the shrimp roll, the whole grilled fish, and the pasta del mar. All were good. I'd say the grilled fish in particular was very tasty. We started off with coffee, but couldn't refuse a nice cocktail by the beach. This was a very nice lunch that was out of the norm for this SGV fam. Fig Tree Venice is a very cute beachy cafe. When I've looked through different cafes in the LA/Santa Monica areas, I knew this was spot I needed to hit up and I am very glad I did. Although it is in the Venice Beach strip, I forgot that I was in Venice Beach because of the secluded side of the cafe where you are surrounded by wooden patio tables, wooden chairs, and beautiful flowers that are native to California. Although there was a table of 5 next to me, I felt like I had my own serene moment of privacy to enjoy my brunch. My server was such a delight at Fig Tree Venice. She had a sunny disposition and was very sweet and patient as I took a while to order my brunch dishes. She made a great recommendation for the Banana Coconut pancakes which ended up catching the attention of a couple of other customer spectators passing by my table. Overall the food was delicious and filling but not to the point where I felt heavy and bloated. The latte was a perfect coffee drink to start especially when all you want to do is relax on a beach front. The Banana Coconut pancakes tasted sweet and delicious and they gave you a scoop of butter cream. The bowl of fruits weren't the most juiciest fruits ever but it was complimentary to the pancakes. My meal was good but not good enough to overcome all the other chaos. I was in a group of 4. It already took a long time, and it didn't seem that busy considering that not all the tables were full. One person didn't get their food; I think they forgot. One person's meal was missing their potatoes, and then they returned the plate with 1 single small cut, barely cooked potato. I'm usually willing to look past subpar service, but that combined with impossible or expensive parking, sitting in direct sunlight during a hot week, and them being out of multiple things we wanted was just not it for me. Net net: if you're willing to potentially be disappointed, wait a while, and pay $20 for parking, the breakfast plate was good! read more

Cute outdoor restaurant directly on the boardwalk. It's Venice Beach, so things to expect: paying for parking, music from street performers and vendors, lots of people walking by, LAPD on horses, bikes and motorized scooters etc. The location is about a 13 minute walk from the muscle beach area of Venice Beach. We found paid parking easily. Depending on how far you want to walk there is paid parking right behind restaurant or you can walk a few minutes and find more affordable parking. The overall vibe of the restaurant was upscale, trendy. It almost felt out of place for its location. Seems like the type of place you'd want to dress up and bring a date, but the location makes it feel very "flip flops and a tee" casual. People are dressed comfortably, some in swimwear or cover ups. Overall it's a lovely restaurant, with a classy atmosphere- with a beach vibe. There were local street performers playing the guitar and keyboard right in front of the restaurant the day we went. The menu is sophisticated, seems thoughtful. Prices are moderately high, but normal compared to most restaurants with this type of menu. The food was fresh. It had ok flavor and everything was good. They have a full bar and great craft cocktails. We sat on the outdoor patio ( the majority of the restaurant is outdoors) but there's also an enclosed area by the bar. There's also a coffee shop inside (not 100% sure, but that's what it looked like) the menu definitely has a cafe/ coffee menu. The restaurant has really nice decor and a good vibe overall. Service was fine. No complaints, there's an automatic 18% gratuity added to all checks, so that's good to be aware of. read more

We had made a trip to the Venice Boardwalk to have breakfast at Candle Cafe only to find out it was closed. We were soo sad, and we decided to walk around to hopefully find a new regular spot. This place was not it! At first sight, it was arranged and decorated very nice. We ordered a breakfast burrito and huevos rancheros with toast / jam and coffees. The food was very tasty. We couldn't understand why we, a party of 2, couldn't be seated outside. As we were told no, then not too soon afterwards a party of two who walked up got seated were we asked. The toast and jam, toast was cold and no butter. Not sure how this happened, maybe sitting out too long? Coffee creamer served to us with a hair floating in it. The bus boy was great, the waitress not bad but definitely inattentive until it got closer to the bill. To the business manager's response. Your waitress lied. She was verbally told it was a hair, pointed at, then handed back to her. Then you have to pay an 18% gratuity regardless of the service and hair in food. And the icing on the cake is a 2% surcharge to help cover benefits, really management? You want the customer to pay a mandatory 18% tip not a tip based on customer service then a 2% surcharge? Just revamp your menu costs to cover the 2% and let your waitresses work for the 18% tip. My advice, just keep on walking the Boardwalk. read more

I have now been here twice and find it to be such a cute and hidden gem! It's absolutely my type of brunch spot, right on the boardwalk, with delicious food and a great location to people watch. The service here has been stellar and always so consistent! Thank you. The classic breakfast plate is my go to because of the variety of items on this dish. The plantains are to die for! I also enjoy getting the coconut plantain pancakes. They are just so flavorful and great for sharing. My breakfast burrito was ok- the salsa if you look at the pictures was not used because it wasted like BBQ sauce or tomato sauce mixed with chili powder. For 3 dishes, 2 coffees, bloody mary, a capaccino, a mimosa, 3 breakfast dishes, pastries to go, and churros, our check was about 200.00 A little high but the patio for dining was nice My burrito was filling. My cousins dish she was good and filling. The bathroom score- eh, I have to mention it was so bad- basically the wax ring under the toilet is worn out and the rim around the toilet needs caulking- and when you flush, it leaks from under where the caulking and wax ring would prevent to make sure it goes down the sewage drain and not under from the toilet... onto the floor (yes it was). Fig Tree serves food all day but I always wanted to try their breakfast. A friend and I enjoyed some fresh coastal air and sun on their patio. Since the restaurant sits right on the boardwalk, you can people watch and enjoy live entertainment if someone is singing or playing music right outside. Food: -Seasonal Omelette with fruit: It was perfectly made with asparagus, nopales (cactus), feta, some type of salsa and topped with squash blossom. ($17) -Plantain and Coconut Pancakes: OHH MYY..they were delicious! The pancakes were organic multi grain topped with fried plantains, and mascarpone. There was plenty for sharing. I would seriously come back just for the pancakes! ($19) -Vanilla Latte with Oatmilk: A very delicious latte ($5.50) There is an extra charge for the oatmilk (only type of milk alternative they have) and vanilla syrup. Service: The service was attentive and friendly, nothing to complain about. They automatically add a 18% gratuity and a 2% health charge to your bill. Parking: Surrounding streets or parking lots/structure. We parked at a structure that was walking distance but it was crazy expensive (yikes). We had to pay $21 for about 2 hours or less. I came on an early Saturday morning with reservations for 9am although it was not needed. It started to get busy around 10am so I would still recommend making reservations. I parked in the public parking a few feet away from the restaurant and it was $20 till 3pm. I loved the ambiance and the chill coffee house music playing. I had to knock off stars due to cleanliness. It's like the place needs a nice deep cleaning. You can see the kitchen on the way to the bathroom and it was so sloppy with dirty dishes laying out. I almost left but was convinced to stay. The food was so delicious that I forgot all about the sloppy kitchen (lol). The potatoes were well undercooked but we were offered a new one which was tasty. The coffee was also fantastic but I wish they had almond milk. They do have oat milk. We we're also very pleased with the service. Everyone was so friendly and and highly attentive. Chef Dashiell Nathanson (formerly of AOC) is making a little magic over at The Fig Tree Cafe. Of course his drinks were on pointe. My hubby loved the tasty sangria but my Paloma Blanco was the most deliciously refreshing cocktail after a long walk down the boardwalk. The vibe in the enclosed garden is immaculate. Leo was a kind and informed waiter, although front of the house could use some work. From the greeting upon entry to the food expediters bringing our food to another table then bringing them an EXTRA dish to apologize ( both were meant for us) but we didn't say a word because the ambiance and olives were so enjoyable. Chef Dashiell even made the humble green goddess salad taste so fresh and delightful. I thoroughly enjoyed the farm to table vibe. Our summer tomato Strazziopretti was perfectly Al dente and don't miss his yummy bread and butter service. Dessert was a bread pudding topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle. Our food came next and it did not disappoint, at all. One of my fav places in Venice. Came twice so far, once for breakfast and once for happy hour. Breakfast: While it's a little pricey for breakfast and portion size is smaller compared to American standards, the quality is great. Got the huevos rancheros and the omelette. Tasty but pricey. The hisbiscus drink was tart, great for those who don't want a sweet drink. Happy Hour 3-5pm: However I would recommend more their happy hour specials. $12 fried calamari (4/5) - a little salty but still wonderful $12 ceviche (5/5) $12 cocktails, if you choose one, get the spicy margarita (5/5) - they do it so differently than other establishments, it has a kick so be prepared. This wasn't on the happy hour menu but I ordered an amaro, was a little too sweet for me so the bartender actually gave me some vermouth on the house to try and it was incredibly good. We made reservation for lunch on Memorial Day. I got the avocado chicken melt with green salad ($23) and iced matcha latte ($6). My friend got the shrimp roll with french fries ($23). I wanted to try their shaken matchata but unfortunately, they were out of horchata. Both of these dishes were good. However, my matcha was not sweet. Even adding vanilla, it still tasted bland.
