A small chill cafe with indoor and outdoor seating....feels like the menu is more of a Italian restaurant....but a great place for breakfast.... People go there talk, relax, bring their kids, dogs, etc..... Seating is first come first serve....but they weren't overly packed for a Saturday about 10AM. I got the Vegetarian Omelette with no cheese.... It was pretty tasty and the latte was really good as well....Nothing to complain about... I'd come back
Fiero Caffe is a unique place where you see regulars who have their daily coffee/espresso and chat with the owner- a little community. Then you see others who are sitting down for hearty meal (omelette, pasta, sandwich). All of the food is good there. We have had practically everything on the menu, whether it is one of their pastas, an entree like salmon or chicken, and even the pizzas, which as of this writing, they no longer offer. Oh, and of course, great espresso drinks. You walk up to the counter and order, they give you a number and you sit down. Food is delivered to you cooked to order. This is a place where you understand that you enjoy your meal and espresso, not that you are in a hurry to work and need to use a mobile app. Seating both inside and outside. Generally well maintained as they turn over tables. One of my favorite places in the peninsula. Only wished they open for dinner but then that could change everything. Owner is great!
What a wonderful, hidden gem! From the moment you walk in the door you are greeted by the owner and he makes you feel not only welcome, but appreciated for being there. We came in on a rainy weekday for lunch and they were bustling with business. Prices are about average for the area with most pasta dishes right at or just above $21. Food is all cooked to order, so allow some time for that. It was so nice listening to people who clearly are regulars come in an interact with the owner with such warm greetings. The food was fantastic. The fettuccine must be homemade, it was perfect. The portions are big enough to share (unless you have a mighty appetite). Definitely adding Fiero Caffe to our regular rotation and so we can try their breakfast which looks amazing too.
This is a very cute neighborhood cafe. You order at the counter, they give you a number, and you find a seat. It's great to sit here and just relax / slow down. I got the spaghetti carbonara which was a pretty large portion. It had a great creamy flavor but I wish they put more pancetta.
They have a wide variety of food here, would have loved a bit more breakfast items but it was still good! Cute indoor seating, very homey vibes. It is a quick service where you order and pay up front and then grab a table. Food was well made, good portions for sharing. There's some parking in front or right around the corner in the residential neighborhood.
Fiero hands down has my favorite pasta ever- my boyfriend and I order the rigatoni and the carbonara all the time and it just hits. The carbonara is so creamy and savory with the pancetta, and the rigatoni has this creamy tomato sauce that is absolutely perfect. The portions are pretty large too, I'm always full after eating here. I've also had the paninis and omelettes which are also delicious for something lighter. I've had the hot and iced coffee as well- the cappuccinos and lattes are amazing. I'd skip the iced coffee, which is a bit watery. I love how rustic and simple the menu is, but there are also plenty of options for pasta, eggs, omelettes, paninis, etc. The seating inside is also so cute- there's a little room in the back with a big window facing a garden, and the outdoor patio is really nice too. Huge plus is that it's dog friendly, even inside! It's definitely more of a casual spot which I love, and the owner (I'm assuming) is always so friendly when we come in! You pay upfront at the register, then sit down and wait for them to bring you your food and drinks. Fiero is an all time favorite and I'd definitely give the pasta a try if you're downtown for lunch!
Nice cafe vibes with lots of sunlight peeking in and a small area for outdoor seating. It was very busy and my friend said business is usually good here. We waited 30 plus minutes for food during weekday lunchtime. They completely forgot about my friend's coffee order which we reminded them when we eventually received our food. Service is very lacking. The owner is not warm. You have to stand in line to order food first before seating yourself.
not pictured: bruschetta it was devoured before my camera had a chance to capture it. the flavor on it was INSANE. I even ate the scrap tomatoes and lettuce off of the plate. very tasty, a must! not pictured: salmon on a bed of spinach, barely wilted, with capers. you could taste how fresh the fish was, cooked perfectly, with lemon drizzled on top this was great too. pizza: we added the pepperoni for an upcharge. the crust was thinner than my bedsheets, and somehow didn't fall apart even when I almost burned my fingers and mouth eating this as fast as I did. carbonara: not nearly as salty as I anticipated: in the best way! very light and creamy sauce, not overpowering at all. gnocchi: pillowy soft, pesto was amazing too! this sauce might be my favorite pesto of all time :) will be back to try the meat sauces/red sauces next time, and even the breakfast too! side note: bathroom was clean (can only speak for the women's bathroom), water dispenser for self-serve water, small fridge with sodas and italian soda in the back, great seating areas and we lucked out with parking in front ($0.50/30 minutes)
2/19/24 Zach and I stopped by Fiero Caffe for brunch. We always drive by it on El Camino and finally decided to check it out. We were able to park right in front. When we get there, you order, pay and then get a number and sit down. Here's what we got: - Smoked salmon omelet + large coffee (his) - Vegetarian omelet (mine) The owner/manager told us that the food would take 10 minutes to come out and he was true to his word. There's nice homey and cozy vibe to the caffe. The omelet is fairly large with lots of cheese and veggies (smoked salmon for him). The bread that came with it is soft and not rock hard. The salad is a little bitter, but a nice contrast to the very savory and cheesy taste of the omelet. Just a note, there are no free refills for coffee, you'll have to shell out $1. We liked the food and the atmosphere. As we were waiting for our food to come, we saw various pasta dishes that looked super good. We will definitely be back to try those out.
I came to this cafe to read and get some work done with friends. I loved being able to walk here and how much seating there was even around lunch time. There was also a outlet and the wifi worked well. I tried the ham and cheese croissant which was perfectly cheesy and savory. I sampled the vanilla latte which was yummy and the omelette which seemed decent too. Service was efficient and the ambiance was very casual and comfortable. I'll come back again to do some more work with yummy food. read more
Pretty cute cafe out of the way of downtown. Seems lots of local regulars. The setting is cool and casual, with great natural lighting through the many windows. The food taste and quality was ok. It's not bad but it's not like home made from scratch. The panini sandwich I had seemed like I could have made it myself at home. The pasta tasted like it was from a box. Again, not bad, but not great. The servers and staff were super nice. I'd come here for the atmosphere and service but maybe not so much the food. read more
Came here for breakfast and enjoyed my smoked salmon panini, which came with a side salad. Not too expensive for about $13, and the food came out quickly and was a sizeable portion. They have a nice space with quite a few tables and chairs, and friendly staff. A good breakfast option if you are in the neighborhood. read more

Dined and did takeout multiple time, the food is always consistently delicious! We enjoy coming here weekend morning with our Doggo. You can observe other dogs and it gets busy during the peak time on weekends. Our go to dishes are carbonara, bacon omelette and ham & cheese croissant. The ingredients are simple and fresh. read more

My family in San Mateo was raving about this place and it sure lived up to expectations. I devoured my giant plate of carbonara in two seconds. It was flavorful, but not overwhelming. The sauce was rich and creamy, and had the perfect amount of cheese. Probably one of the best I've had. Tiramisu was also magnificent. Everything was reasonably priced and service was good. Will definitely be back next time I visit SM! read more

I pass by this place on my commute and it looks so inviting. Today I finally had the chance to give it a try! Loved the ambience: indoor and outdoor seating, Italian music in the background, and employees greeting regular customers by name. The espresso drinks were perfect. My salmon and goat cheese omelette with dressed greens was simple but delicious. The almond croissant looked good but tasted stale, the only disappointment of the meal. We found metered street parking out front, but parking could be a challenge at peak times. I'd love to return to try the pasta! read more
I've driven by this little cafe literally for YEARS and finally had the chance to stop by for brunch. My friend and I arrived on a Sunday around 12:30pm and there were still seats available both inside and outside. The cashier was super friendly as well as the rest of the staff who brought out our orders. I ordered the Sicilian omelette and my friend got the spaghetti with fresh pesto -- both were absolutely delicious and made the perfect light brunch. I would highly recommend sitting in the little room to the left of the register (sort of near the bathrooms) as there's a fantastic view of a lemon tree just outside the window. So quaint and such a great vibe. I will definitely be stopping by again! read more

In A Nutshell: -Fiero Caffe is a small sidewalk cafe located along the border of downtown San Mateo. -It's actually very spacious once you walk inside. -If you love a good omelet I suggest you either order the "egg" or "sicilian" omelettes. -The Sicilian has some very good sausage inside it! -If you can grab a table out front, I would do that especially in the morning. Overall, this is a very nice little cafe in San Mateo. read more

Been coming here for over fifteen years and just now reviewing it while I wait for my to-go order of pear and arugula salad and a penne Arrabiata. Can't wait to dig in as I know it will be delish. Fiero is consistently good so I have no doubt I will enjoy it. I like to sit in the room overlooking the lemon tree - feels like I'm in a small Italian village! Filippo is the face of Fiero - he still counts change in Italian haha! read more

My sister told me about this place when we were talking about spaghetti carbonara and she really recommended it. I also saw the great Yelp reviews. Came here on a weekday for lunch on a gorgeous fall day with my family. Lots of indoor and outdoor table that were spaced out so that was nice. We sat outside after ordering at the counter. The people working here were very helpful and friendly and you can tell there are a fair amount of regular customers that come here. We ordered the spaghetti carbonara, grilled branzino and spinach and ricotta ravioli. Every dish was great and I was surprised by the big portion size. This was especially true of the branzino where I got 2 fillets of fish. The carbonara was on point with great flavor. We were hungry that day and the food was so good that we ended up not having leftovers. I'll be back again in the future for sure! read more

Best morning and lunch spot in San Mateo. Working the night shift, I love that I can get dinner for breakfast. Today I had the branzino and it was fabulous. The coffees, pastries, breakfasts, and salads are also wonderful. The seating is great, too...with plenty of indoor and outdoor options. The owner is very dedicated and an incredible chef/owner. read more

Really cute Italian cafe. They have pretty good espresso although a little bitter (they do have sugar available I just didn't grab any). The guy at the register who I believe is the owner or a worker there is really friendly and even brings your food and drinks to you which is appreciated. The pasta and traditional Italian food looks good, saw a man in heaven eating his Chicken parm. I want to come back one day and try it. Noticed they also had cannolis which I hope to try one day. The bruschetta was tasty and the Pastrami Panini was delicious and so were the fries. It's super filling and a fair price I believe at around $12. Pretty good wifi and outside seating too Try it! read more
*** In Short *** Spacious cafe serving up simple, but delicious pastas. *** In Depth *** While Fiero offers up a number of alternatives, like omelettes and paninis, the pastas are where it's really at here, with both the carbonara and the classic spaghetti and meatballs being pretty outstanding items, with generous portions, to boot. Ordering is done up at the counter, where you're then given a number, and left to your own devices to find a seat. Note that they don't seem to have any A/C, which normally wouldn't be a problem unless you get stuck eating there during a heat wave like I did, in which case the cafe gets a little miserably hot. ***Accessibility Info*** Venue - Plenty of accessible seating, both indoors and out. Bathroom - Didn't check them out. read more

Little small cafe with friendly staff and producing good food. Tuck away in the corner but pack with people. Ordered panini with mozzarella and mushroom, Sicilian omelette, macchiato, cappuccino and you cannot forget about homemade tiramisu. Yum! Very nice relax vibe. I would recommend this place for brunch. read more

This is a really nice place to get brunch/lunch with friends or family. There's plenty of food options - from pasta to omelettes - and the pasta in particular is very good. Their coffee is strong if that suits your tastes. The service is friendly and makes the atmosphere so welcoming and cozy. They've always been a pleasure when I go! Parking can be hard since it's on a busy street, so I recommend finding parking in a structure in downtown San Mateo and walking over. read more

Small cafe on El Camino but love the ambiance, it's much bigger when you enter. They have the best and most chocolate-y croissant in the area by far. All their pastries are excellent. But the true star is the pasta - the rigatoni is to die for. The spaghetti is also very good. The ham and cheese croissant is a perfect breakfast item and their coffees are good as well. So far, my favorite cafe in San Mateo! read more

Can 8 of us sit outside for coffee and danishes?
I don't recall a large amount of outdoor seating. There is a nice airy room indoors, however.
