Been to Fieldwork twice, counting this most recent time. It was definitely more empty but that's expected as it was a Monday afternoon. It was easier in this case to find parking and seating, but if you come on a weekend it's much more busy and packed. We got 3 sets of flights and one in our group got the Rotisserie Chicken Tamale. The tamale was actually really good! Super flavorful and really packed with flavor. The selection of beer was unfortunately not what I expected at least, as I had looked online the day before to see what they had and did not see some of the flavors I wished to try. Definitely still a nice place to go with friends, and hopefully the next time we come back it will have some flavors I'm hoping to try! read more

A great spot to spend a weekend afternoon. Fieldwork gets pretty busy on the weekends and the outdoor patios fill up quickly, but there's a ton of indoor seating as well. Fieldwork has a large number of beers on tap! My friends got a flight to sample a few options. The flight pours are very generous! Their favorite was the chocolate milk stout. This location also offers snacks. We split a soft pretzel with spicy mustard. It was a great salty complement to the beer. This neighborhood in Northwest Berkeley has a ton of old warehouse spaces converted into breweries and tasting rooms. Everything is within walking distance if you want to visit a few spots and make a day of it! read more

So many excellent brews to try - we shared two samplers, and took home a four-pack of Rainbow Parfait and Pulp. The food was okay - we tried a cheese pizza and pretzel, and they hit the spot but were far from the best we've ever had. We loved the ambiance though and the ease of ordering right to our table via a QR code. We'll definitely visit again! read more

This place was very cozy and a great hangout spot. I'm not from the area and my boyfriend was just showing me around Berkeley. After a day full of hikes and sightseeing, it was nice to come to this small but very inviting environment. There was outdoor and indoor seating which was nice. It was a Saturday night and wasn't too loud, which is nice since we were still able to have conversations and hear each other. They followed guidelines and require vaccination! I got a beer flight which was bigger than I expected! They are very generous with the tasting sizes. My bf got the Cantina del Borracho, which is a tropical sour ale and indeed VERY sour lol. I really liked and recommend the Morning Time (coffee stout), Everbong (pale ale) and the Strawberry Banana Parfait sour, which was very interesting but tasty, like a sweet fizzy wine type of taste. What better way to spend your holidays than at a fantastic brewery here in the East Bay that not only has a great selection of local beers but is dog and chill friendly? Fieldwork Brewing Co. has been here for a few years and their popularity continues to increase each day. Located in northern Berkeley with actual street parking available, this awesome buzzing spot filled with locals enjoying some nice drafts will really make you remember that not everyone in California is stuck up. I would know as a born-grown Bay Area kid myself of course. Jokes aside, the drinks here were pretty damn good. Great IPAs that change constantly. Recently we came and tried beers from "Tide is High" to "Rainbow Parfait," all with fantastic news and great notes to accompany each drink. Prices here are great as well and it's easy to knock back a few rounds with good company. You can also purchase some small snacks such as chips, corn nuts (for reals!), and grilled cheeses. Their menu is not super expansive so I wish there was a BYOF option, but I'd come here solely for the beer and head elsewhere after to fill your stomach with carbs. Despite it being fairly large inside, there's a limited amount of seating when it gets really busy. My friends and I had came for our Christmas Eve brunch and we ended up having to eye down one of the picnic tables inside to shield us from the rain (of all the days too!). Love places that are dog friendly! They have a variety of beer that you can select and try from. I ended up getting two of their wheat beers while my boyfriend got two of their IPAs. We also got two of their grilled cheese sandwiches, one of each kind. Both were good. Service was excellent. You're probably wondering, what service... you're at a brewery! But they had people come to us asking if everything was okay and wanting to pet our dog. Overall, we had a good experience and definitely want to come back. I don't really drink beer but I was looking forward to their non-beer options. My friend ordered their tart cherry slushy which I really liked, so I went to order it and received a totally different drink frozen drink. It was their frozen rosé - it tasted completely different than the tart cherry (the drinks look almost identical with the same color & texture but taste completely different). I brought the drink back to the bar and politely asked to exchange it for the tart cherry and offered to return the first drink. The bartender (a shorter blonde lady named Bailey I think) acted so annoyed and said "No, I gave you the right drink!" and proceeded to re-pour the frozen rosé and say "here just keep both" - I tasted it and it was rose again. I'm just disappointed in the service as I know the cherry drink was right there and she didn't even try to distinguish the difference between the two before pouring again, while defending that she was right. Lazy, lousy service in my opinion and no customer service skills whatsoever. Also, some of the appetizers are served in silver kitchen prep bowls that are only distinguishable from their dog bowls with a simple peel and stick label - and we found a dog hair in our food. Four stars because parking is a bitch here and it's always crowded and hard to find seats here. On the plus side the ppl who come here are sooo nice and kind and friendly that I dont mind sharing a table or a chair haha. I love the selection of the beers here. The parfait is super interesting and has a clear milk quality. Which is a first in my beer tasting life. I would also like to shout out to the nice dude taking me and my friends order via the tablet and the tablet kept malfunctioning. You're the mvp dude. :) so patient and had great humor. Their menu emphasizes IPAs, but they serve up a few different types of beers and also produce some seasonal batches. The vibe is very chill, and there's ample seating for couples to small groups. The people working here were really smiley and ready to give recommendations. Broken Clouds was my favorite. My husband went for some of the darker beers, which were good but not mind blowing. There are full and half pours available as well as growler films and ample crowler options for "adventures to go." Don't forget to check out the shelves of boardgames, as well. Best craft beer in town. We love love love this place. I love their sours and my husband is a fan of their Belgian ales. All their beers are excellent and with the help of the servers I've even ventured to their IPAs. Such helpful friendly staff. I really appreciate the dog-friendly (and kid friendly) outdoor patio, and think all their servers are stellar. We come here at least once a week, even during shelter-in-place. When they closed their indoor and outdoor seating due to COVID, we continued to get our beer from them via online orders and curbside pick up. The outdoor patio has now reopened and watching these guys sanitize the space so thoroughly, and implementing rigorous social distancing protocols, makes me feel really safe and confident about coming here and enjoying my sours in their patio. Bonus Fact: the owner is a huge supporter of the a Berkeley Humane Society. Super committed loyal donor!! The way I rationalize our monthly spending at this place is that by being loyal patrons of Fieldwork Brewing Im saving dog lives! FUN PLACE, GREAT BEER AND PIZZA, PRICEY, HARD TO FIGURE THINGS OUT I went to Fieldwork today for the second time in several years. THE GOOD: quality of everything was great. The mushroom pizza was really good. Came out just warm; I did not mind this, but it's probably better to bring it out hot. The beer was pretty darned good. THE NOT-SO-GOOD: kind of pricey. A small pizza -- maybe 10" square, a beer and a flight of beers + tax was $53. Hard to know what the choices are. They have this little menu board with really small writing. Very hard to read. The beer list is really hard to understand. They have different sections for different beers, based on directions. I asked about hazy IPAs, and the woman told me "that's in the northeast section." No idea what this meant. It can't be that hard to make things a little easier. For counter service, the payment thing gives 18%, 20%, and 22% as suggested tips. TIPPING IS OUT OF CONTROL. I ended up giving a way more generous tip than was warranted. For ordering at the counter, the tip should be, I don't know, maybe 10%. Let's get back to sanity in tipping! read more

Crime here doesn't seem that bad, but I still wouldn't keep anything valuable in your car to tempt thieves. * Staff: incredibly nice, and really knowledgeable with the beers on tap. If you're ever feeling overwhelmed and aren't sure what you want, don't be shy and ask whoever's serving you what they would recommend. * Selection: there's a ton of variety! Whether you're looking for a sour, an IPA, or a stout, there's a beer for everyone. Pricing is pretty reasonable for the beers, with higher ABV beers and sours being on the pricier end. In addition to the beer selection, you also have quite a few food options (though they're a bit pricey). Fieldwork Brewing has a reputation that is respected among the other northeast breweries. Pulp and Galaxy are some sought after canned beers that I've had the pleasure of trying. So I was really eager to finally check out the brewery. What a great spot! Perfect blend of outdoor seating with a warehouse-feel to their indoor space. The staff all look badass but are friendly as can be. I stood at the counter dumbfounded by the beer selection and trying to decide which T-shirt I was going to buy, and the nice lady at the register with the tattoos and nose ring was as patient as she could be. The other memorable experience was how good the beer tasted on site! I've had pulp in a can before but the fresh pour was something else. Wow. I wanted more but didn't want to crash my rented bike into a parked car. I had such a great time. Can't wait to go back again. read more

Came here to unwind and pretend like covid didn't take the fun out of everything. There is a skate park a block down that my son skates. This business practices the usual covid safety precautions. You do have to Order one food item per table. The time we went there were three different sandwiches to order from. They are pretty decent. Let me start by saying I'm not a huge beer fan! However, fieldwork has some of the best "fruity" beers I have ever had. I can't remember the name of what I ordered but it tasted almost like juice (not as sweet) but amazing! I could have downed the cup in about 2 seconds! My friends ordered a sampler and they loved it as well. I loved how family friendly this location was. We saw families and dogs, couples and friends enjoying their time beer tasting. I will definitely come back. I have also been to the San Ramon location and it doesn't disappoint either. Great beer, great vibes! read more

When they first opened brick and mortar in Berkeley, before lines were around the building for a seat, a can, or a beer, I was pretty faithful to this place. I also always enjoyed seeing their beers on tap at local restaurants. It had been a while since I even attempted to go inside their Berkeley location..... when covid hit. I commend them for being one of the first local breweries to deliver, the $2.50 local delivery fee is more than worth it. They continue to have all sorts of beers in can and crowler form, update their beers regularly, website is thorough and easy to order from, deliveries are accurate and friendly. Each beer even shows the ABV and type(s) of hops if applicable. Prices are great, super fair. After living in San Diego for years, I was spoiled by the concentration of craft beer and micro breweries. I was worried about moving back home to the Bay Area - scared I wouldn't have another hazy IPA to my liking.... One day I visited Fieldwork and all my concerns were gone! Okay I didn't mean to be dramatic haha but Fieldwork has all the qualities of a great brewery. There's a wide selection of beers (including sours!) but the hazy IPAs are definitely the best I've tried from a Bay Area brewery. Tasty, hoppy and high ABVs. Of the IPAs I tried, my favorite was Galaxy Juice. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. Other notable features: dog friendly, food, and they have a projector screen they'll set up for sport games e.g. Warriors playoff games. read more

I'll preface my review with the disclaimer that I"m not in any way a beer person. I'm the type that orders a cider when possible and asks the cool hipster bartender at the micro brewery what they offer that is closest to ta cider :p That being said if you read this know that I"m reviewing their "cider like" offerings, food, service and ambiance. I've been here on two occasions this year, both birthday gatherings. The most recent one for my girlfriend was on a Tuesday afternoon around 5pm. We were able to snag a full size table and had about 15 celebrators come through and enjoy beer, amazing chips and dip and grilled cheese sandwiches. The first time we were here they had empanadas so it seems they cycle their food offerings. The food is actually good and not just an offering to go along with the drinks. They had various types of grilled cheese sandwiches and their chips were thick, crispy and had a homemade feel. They have a comfy couch on one side, outside seating, smaller two tops on the outskirts and long tables in the middle. The staff is quite friendly for a brewery meaning that if you don't look like a hipster, beer connoisseur, or Berkeley native they are still helpful and friendly. If you're a girl and the bartender is a guy ask for a sample. I witnessed this and the girl in front of me got a bit more than half a glass of whatever she asked for. I've been aware of Fieldwork Brewing for quite some time, especially due to their social media presence and gorgeous can art. I had heard their beer was fantastic to match and was part of the reason for their quick success and expansion. I set it aside to have plenty of time here, the Berkeley location was the original so I thought it should be the first. With an old friend willing to try it together, I was very excited to come! Right off the bat, Fieldwork did not live up to expectations. Whether that was having mine high in the first place, or that it's just not that amazing will never be known. I do look forward to coming here again or trying their other locations. The brewery is located on the outskirts of Berkeley; parking is street only and we easily found a space. It's an old converted warehouse with high ceilings. It's hard to know what to do if you haven't been here before: you line up for a single order-taker, then pay for everything where you get a number and it's brought to you. For people like me that like to take my time when ordering, I felt rushed with the flight sheets, especially with the abundance of choices. The cashier was patient, and they started pouring as quickly as we wrote stuff down. Seating is at a premium; you'll have to share tables, but even then it's hard to find the requisite seats. One huge positive here is how dog friendly it is! They have water bowls below the human water coolers, and free dog treat bowls on the counters. Dogs were everywhere and well-behaved; I wish we had that policy here. We looked at the food choices and opted to skip trying anything, prices felt high for what read like nothing special. This was okay, as I was only here for the beer and company. We ordered the core flight, and a second flight of 6 other beers; a dozen in total. Each is served in a metal box and is poured for you to take yourself. Crowlers, growlers, and food will be brought to your table when ready. I thoroughly enjoyed trying the beer, reading about each one on the menu, and catching up with my friend. As a rare drinker, I was interested in his opinions of what we had as we went. Out of twelve, I genuinely enjoyed two, with a few others good. None of them stuck out to me as particularly amazing. The beers remained in the shade on a cool day, but none felt served cold enough. It was a sense of blandness. Regardless, I ordered a can of my favorite to take home to share with a friend, it tasted better than I had remembered. Maybe this place has a big difference between packaged and draft beer; I'd love to try more to know for certain. Prices were typical for the area, with stronger or more complex styles costing more. If you haven't had a Fieldwork IPA then you should definitely try one. I am from Sacramento and so have a Fieldwork taproom I go to occasionally. I love their standard IPA and find almost all of their beers either very good or not bad. Not too many food options but they do offer tamales and a couple other things. I didn't try one but I hear they are good. The brewing company can be crowded, but we were there on a Thursday and were served very promptly. If for some reason it is too crowded try the brewery two blocks away on Gilman, it is really good too. read more

Nice beer place! A hidden gem indeed! Came here with coworkers for lunch, and I loved the ambiance. I enjoyed the travel notes (international IPA, mango and acai berries). They have a wide selection of beer, and some of them are weird like the salted cucumber (actually not bad- I tried a sip from my coworker's). I wish they had a wider food selection, but the chicken tamales was delicious. Chicken on point, juicy- couldn't have asked for more.
