I'll start off by stating the obvious. This hotel is gorgeous. It is decorated flawlessly. When we arrived, we were greeted by a very sweet girl at the front desk and we were given our room key (which is not an electric key card - an actual key! Fun!), when we entered our room, it was tiny! I understand that we booked the least expensive room - but come on! You could not walk over to one side of the bed without scratching your leg on the table in the corner near the window. It was way too small (however, decorated beautifully!). The bathroom was nice, small, but nice. However, anytime you showered, the floor would get soaked. And there weren't enough towels in the room to clean up the water and because there is not a phone in the room, you have no way to call the front desk to request more towels. It's a headache that you can't reach the front desk without actually going downstairs. They provide you with a tablet when you arrive which is pre-loaded with area attractions, it is very helpful if you do not know the area. The smart TV was a cool feature. Another cute thing they do is they deliver breakfast to your door in the most adorable little basket! For the 2 nights that we were there we typically received OJ, fruit, oats and a pastry. Would have like the option of a hot breakfast, but the little basket was very "Vermont". The pool area is nice. The seating is great, they have 3 sets of 2 covered, cushioned lounge chairs which are fantastic - if you can get one. People tend to camp out on them (understandably). The pool itself is clean but so cold. The walk from the hotel to the pool is not paved or grass, it is kinda gravel-y/grassy and uncomfortable. But the pool was nice. The hot tub should be way closer to the pool, if you want to go from one to another it is quite the hassle. The worst part of this hotel was easily the restaurant. I went down to the bar for a drink and a snack with my boyfriend because we at an early dinner out in Waterbury. The menu was EXTREMELY limited and it wasn't overly appealing. The grilled cheese was burnt, and my drink - oh, my drink - was terrible! It could have been so good. I do not remember exactly what it was, but it had a popsicle in it. Sounds cool, right?! The popsicle had so much mint or basil or some herb that it made the cocktail impossible to drink. It felt like I was eating a salad with vodka dressing. It was not good. Overall, it was fine. But for the money they charge, fine is not what I was looking for. I was looking for more. I won't discourage anyone from coming here, but I will not return. read more

My girlfriend and I stayed here this past weekend and were very happy we chose this place. The location is great! It's a 5 minute walk to the shops/restaurants on Main st. There are plenty of places right across the street as well. The decor is cute, it's cabin chic. Also, they give you an iPad for your stay, which was actually kind of nice, they had apps/websites bookmarked -- much better then a brochure or having to bother them with recommendation requests. The staff were all very friendly though. Another nice touch was the little breakfast baskets they leave you in the AM. They were adorable. My only complaints are minor things -- I wish they had a larger/full length mirror somewhere -- esp in the bathroom. And also, the shower is very small. My girlfriend and I are both 5'2 and thin and felt cramped. I'm honestly not sure if anyone who is not on the thinner side could fit in this shower. Lastly, the smoke alarms are very sensitive. My girlfriend set it off just by straightening her hair. That aside, I would highly recommend this place! read more

Great service, great location, and great breakfast! We booked last minute based on watching the weather forecast and were not disappointed! The location is central to restaurants, shopping, hiking, biking, breweries, and great waterfalls! Our concierge, Aiden was a true gem! We got to the lodge early being from out of state and wanting to enjoy everything Stowe had to offer. She gave us detailed information about the bike rail trail where we had a great ride and lunch. When we got back, she had our room ready hours early! The staff was very knowledgable about the attractions in the area. We spent early morning to nightfall soaking in Stowe in the summer! The complimentary breakfast in the morning changed daily and was incredible! I have been to 23 countries and must say this is top notch service. Thank you so much Aiden! We will be back! read more

This was our first time visiting Stowe and the Field Guide Lodge made us feel right at home, even during a pandemic. We were upgraded to the Tree House Lodge and got treated like luxury the whole time. The staff was constantly checking up on us and making sure our stay was going well, the room was absolutely beautiful, and the location of the resort couldn't have been better. What a lovely lodge in such an adorable ski town! The staff was friendly and caring. During check-in they gave us an iPad to use during our stay and some awesome restaurant recommendations for places within walking distance of the Lodge. We tried Doc Pond's and it did not disappoint. The free breakfast was a nice touch and the room was very clean and decorated delightfully. The price was reasonable, especially considering how great the amenities are! The location is good too, close to good restaurants and the paved path that runs through town. I highly recommend The Field Guide Lodge to anyone staying in Stowe. read more

My husband I stayed at Field Guide for our Anniversary weekend. Everything was picture perfect there! The room smelled like fresh linens and the bed & pillows were so comfortable!! The breakfast served at the door each morning was a charming & romantic touch. They even accommodated our gluten-free preference! One of the best hotels around. I've lived in VT for 11 years and very sad that I just discovered this place. Clean, reliable, relaxing!

Just don't stay here and waste your hard earned money here. BEWARE TOTAL SCAM should be a 1 star motel like it used to be. Upon checking in was greeted by the less than welcoming front desk person Kendra. I informed Kendra my partner is immunocompromised (he has stage 3 cancer) and we would prefer a room that hasn't been used in at least 24 hours she said they had been full the previous night and didn't have any. Then my partner walked up and asked her to please check low and behold they had a room that hasn't been used. We told Kendra we wanted no maid service because of covid precautions she said we wouldn't and to keep our do not disturb sign on the door (which we did). The next day while we were out maids came into our room even with the do not disturb sign. Unacceptable! Then we had to change rooms since an unmasked maid was in our room. Sure they 'upgraded' us to a room where you can hear everyone on the second floor walking and talking. Was woken up at 5am one day by sounds of people mating above me. Disgusting. Room was smaller than a shoebox dim light it in the bathroom was told yeah a lot of people complain. Then Kendra started making fun of the 'ambiance' lighting in the lobby and that she keeps them brighter than they are supposed to be. Kendra also made fun of our mask usuage and asked if we even wear masks while alone together at home. Sorry Kendra you're ignorant it's called B.A.5 and it's ripping through the US because everyone wants to make believe covid is gone. News flash it isn't so require masks to keep your guests safe or at the bare minimum have staff wear them. I asked for a hot tub reservation time change and Kendra never updated it but that didn't matter because the hot tub is from the 90s no jet power. Just call it a warm bath. Ohh but they will have someone look at it after we would be checking out. We only stayed at this run down place for three nights. Heard from a guest that it used to be a run down motel, well it still is they just put lipstick on a pig. I will be reporting this business to the BBB unless they offer me a refund for my unacceptable treatment and horrible experience 30 dollar off coupons for future stays don't cut it. I will never stay at a Lark property again. read more

We had a great time in Stowe last weekend. The hotel was a positive part of the experience. The staff was friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. We stayed in a King Deluxe and it was a great value for the price. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious. We really loved the breakfast baskets! We also had a back door that led down to the hot tub, the upper parking lot area and the pool, which was nice. The location is great is a plus. It is a short walk into the village and we walked down to explore a few times and had dinner down there on Saturday night. The on-site restaurant "Picnic Social" is also a fun spot with good food, craft beers and specialty cocktails. We enjoyed the live music on the patio on Sunday evening for the crawfish boil that they had for Memorial Day weekend. read more

My hubby surprised me for my 30th at this beautiful hotel. We stayed in the King Suite that overlooked the pool. I loved the decor and simplicity of the entire place, most especially the pool area which had fantastic seating options. At night the pool had lights that changed colors and of course we had a wonderful view of the fireworks right above the pool on the 4th! The breakfast delivered to our door every morning was phenomenal and the Apple TV's/BlueTooth speakers were great additions. The only minor things that weren't perfect were the A/C and the bed. They were good, don't get me wrong, but I found the bed/pillows to be uncomfortable. But everyone has their own preference. And the A/C would come on super strong but as soon as the room reached the desired temp, it would shut off and instantly feel warm. This place was renovated from an older hotel about 8 months ago so the changes they've made are wonderful and the couple who run it are so kind (and attractive too :) ). Stayed at the Field Guide over thanksgiving weekend and had a very nice time. The hotel itself is very cool and well appointed (the decor/design is kind of a mash between modern / Swiss lodge, I'm no interior design guru but it was cool!), and the staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We really enjoyed our stay at Fieldguide. Ben and John made it feel like home. It is a boutique hotel with neat decor. The beds are absolutely the most comfortable with the softest sheets ever. Ben built a fire in the pit after dusk. We sat around, enjoyed and made new friends. John and Ben served up a great little breakfast of boiled eggs, croissants, yogurt, and juices. Everything you need to start your day off right. The area is beautiful with lots of hiking trails, easy and difficult. The Alchemist Brewery is right up the road and worth the trip. The Bench Restaurant, directly across the road, is a good place to eat. The absolute best was the drive through Smugglers Notch. read more

This hotel is absolutely beautiful! My boyfriend and I stayed this past weekend for 2 nights and had such a wonderful time. We stayed in one of the queen rooms, I expected it to be on the smaller side as this is the cheapest room to stay in but it was so spacious! Room was spotless and the shower was very spacious also. The bed was heavenly and I loved the Apple TV as we were able to connect to our Netflix and watch our favorite shows. It was so nice to wake up to a basket of breakfast pastries, fruit, oats, and OJ outside our door and cozily eating it in bed :) The decor in both our room and the entire hotel itself (especially the lobby) was impeccable. Modern, rustic, and so so cozy! I kept saying I felt like I was staying in an HGTV set, huge kudos to the interior decorators! The pool was closed for the season but the hot tub was perfect!! I loved where it was located..just steps away from the lobby's backdoor in a very secluded gazebo. Location is great, amazing restaurants right across the street (I recommend Doc Ponds!) Staff was very friendly and each guest receives an iPad to use during their stay with pre-bookmarked restaurant and activity recommendations which comes in hand when you're looking for places to go. If I could rate Field Guide higher, I would. To say our stay was incredible is an understatement. Before our check in, I called to ask if there was any option to get balloons for our stay in the room when we arrived. I was coming for my boyfriends birthday. They explained that Stowe is a small area but they would certainly see what they could do. Shortly after I revived and email that they were able to complete my request along with leave a bottle of wine in the room for us. I don't know of any other hotel that would go out and buy balloons and put them in the room for you!!! Then we checked in, we were greeted with a friendly smile and blown away by the decor and vibe of the place, pictures truly do not do it justice. We were able to use the hot tub which is open year round, complimentary breakfast in the morning with the most friendly, welcoming, genuine staff members taking care of us. The room was outstanding, it was clean, had amazing decor, comfortable bed and pillows, two bath robes, a beautiful porch area. I really can not say enough good things about our trail house king suite. OH and just outside our room was a station for hot chocolate, tea, and coffee. What more could you ask for?? I normally do not take the time to leave reviews but Wow if I could do it all again I would pick this hotel a million times over. I would like to thank the staff and management for providing my boyfriend and I with the most amazing stay we've ever had and also getting the balloons in our room before we arrived. Amazing experience! My boyfriend and I stayed for 4 days and 3 nights last weekend. Firstly, we were greeted by a smile from Will whom helped us immensely prior to our arrival by answering all our questions. The room was beautiful and we were able to bring our two dogs as well. It was so hard to find a hotel that was dog friendly and while staying at Field Guide it didn't even feel as though we were staying at a hotel. The hotel pool was very clean and the lounge chairs were so comfortable! One thing I liked was the iPad that Will gave to us upon our arrival. It was so helpful with hiking trails and restaurant options at the tips of our fingers...local knowledge is very difficult to find and the iPad made it so easy. When traveling the service and the staffs presence and attitude is everything to me. If you're looking for a relaxing stay in a beautiful setting this is the place for you! The staff always had a smile and good advice for any activity my family had in mind; whether it be hiking, adventures, or breweries; Will had the answer! Our stay at the Field Lodge exceeded our expectations. The Lodge has been beautifully decorated with great attention paid to modern, fun and inviting details. We felt like the Lodge and its employees did a lot of work to make us feel safe and protected during the pandemic - contactless check-ins, everyone wearing masks and social distancing, delicious grab 'n go breakfast bags. (Sidenote: The breakfast oatmeal-type offering was so good that I wish I had asked for the recipe!) Great experience at a eclectic boutique hotel. Everything was clean and extremely comfortable. The soaking tubs are an added bonus at the end of a long day of skiing! The staff is friendly and very accommodating. We checked in late one night and asked to have an early check in another night and they could not have been more gracious. The morning breakfast baskets were delicious and plentiful, however, hot coffee and tea were difficult to get (which is the only reason I can't give five stars); I'm a tea drinker and didn't get hot water either time we stayed. Pretty disappointing stay. While the pictures are great and aesthetically the look is attractive there are many things that are missing from a hotel that is over $300 per night. For example, room didn't get clean every day, they say breakfast is included but that is if you like to carbo load it is a cute basket left outside door and it's juice and two muffins and some mix of yogurt and oatmeal and a jar of fruit. I would prefer an egg as we don't eat carbs. Cup of Hot tea at the bar was $8.80. Bed has two giant cave ins from bodies and they need to be replaced. While there is coffee machine in room we only got cups one day out of three and there is no phone to call and get some. Lastly and most annoying is that the sink has no counters. Pretty sink but completely impractical as there is nowhere to put anything. Drain is also super slow. Great location but totally not worth the money. read more

I really enjoyed my stay here at the Field Guide. It is a chic yet cozy boutique hotel, with great attention to detail and personalized service. From the minute we stepped into the lobby we were struck by the "wow" factor of the decor. Our room was small but intelligently designed to make efficient use of all the available space. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in (and this includes my own mattress at home). The basket of breakfast goodies awaiting us outside of our door each morning provided a great start to our day We did have the opportunity to eat at the resident restaurant, Picnic Social, and quite liked it as well. Bar staff was very friendly and the food was pretty good. We had a great time watching the Pats beat the Texans over a few beers at the bar. My only complaints would be that the water temperature in the shower was finicky. Sound insulation was also not great so you could definitely hear people talking in the hallways. Thankfully we did not encounter any children/rowdy teenagers/groups during our stay. Minus one star for these issues. Overall a great experience and I look forward to staying at other Lark Hotels in the future. p.s. Dog friendly suites available. read more

We normally stay at a different hotel when visiting Stowe, but we decided to try something different this visit. We were really happy we did. We fell In love with the Field Guide. The room was perfect and all of the attention to detail really made a difference. The location is amazing as well. You can tell from the moment you walk in that the place is well run. The staff was very friendly without being pushy. We dealt with the managers (Nick and Mary, I think) who were super. I got the impression they would have done anything to make our visit great. If I had one suggestion it would be to make the walking to and from the Trail House where we stayed a little easier. A walking path or stepping stones away from the car path would have been nice. Also, it would be nice to have a bit easier access to the pool (some steps for example). read more

I emailed Field Guide 10 days prior to our visit after there was a death in the family, letting them know we wouldn't be able to make it for our 2-night stay. They replied that I would lose our deposit ($400) because it was not within 14 days of our reservation OR I could move our reservation to another date (minus an admin fee) if I could let them know right then what that new date would be. New date? Someone just died, I have hardly been able to think straight. I couldn't handle thinking about losing $400. I've never stayed in a hotel that cost $400/night in the winter in the continental US but it was something I splurged on as a gift to my husband to go with our young family. So we went. Emotionally exhausted and run-down, we decided we would try and make the most of it. When we arrived under the cover of night, I waited in the car with the children and my husband walked in the lobby to see someone (manager? front desk clerk?) trying to light the fire in the fireplace but there was smoke pouring out. Ever the Eagle scout, he asked if he had opened the flue. "I am not sure," he flustered as he pushed more kindling and paper into the fireplace. Moments later, the fire alarm sounded and I saw my husband open the front door and windows. A few minutes later he came back out and explained the situation. 15 minutes later police and fire trucks arrived. And about 40 minutes later, everyone was gone and we were given the all-clear to enter. It was now after the kids' dinnertime. We had trouble finding our room, an upgraded cottage I envisioned being spacious and quaint. It was more like a basement with short ceilings, cold floors (no heat in the bathroom!) and wicked drafts in the back of the resort. I wore a fleece jacket the whole time we were inside despite cranking up the rooms' individual heating units multiple times. The decor was stunning; beautifully chosen pieces and patterns. But on closer look, it appeared a nice Band-Aid to a two bedroom suite that should have had more structural renovation. And outside our window? No mountain vistas but a parking lot, the underneath of other unit's decks, staircases and the resort's hot tub- noise that was not enjoyable to fall asleep to. Doubly disappointing, outside the other bedroom was a hvac system that turned on and off every 15 minutes. Bring ear plugs if you don't want to hear your neighbors (and your own bathrobe; their's is paper-thin). The best part was probably the darling morning breakfast delivered in glass jars. And having Apple TV and WiFi in each room. After our first frigid night, we awoke to a toddler in inconsolable pain. The Stowe walk-in clinic was closed on Sundays (or is closed altogether, conflicting online reports), so my husband set out on a 3-stop tour to find a pharmacy that was open and could help us while I was on my cell phone with our pediatrician back in Maine. It was soon obvious we needed to load up and head back home, as we couldn't find the care we needed. Disappointed and enormously frustrated that Field Guide had not been more accommodating to our situation in the first place, my husband approached the front desk to let them know we needed to leave. Would they offer a refund for our missed second day? Nope. $60 in vouchers to use at another Lark Hotel. Tho Instagram pretty, I (clearly) would say Field Guide is not worth your money. read more

What a great hotel in the amazing town of Stowe VT. My girlfriend and I booked a 3 night stay for the 4th of July weekend and to celebrate her birthday. As soon as you walk in the lobby you know you are gonna have a great time. The decor is beautiful. We were greeted by Mike at the front desk who helped us with our check in. Mike is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet in your life. As a matter of fact the whole hotel staff is amazing. The next day after our check in we met another team member named Emily and she was super helpful as well. Every team member we encountered was professional, friendly and efficient. That is a winning formula. Whenever we needed something they were so fast to act and accommodate. As an example of how well we were treated during our stay, after taking my girlfriend out to dinner around town we went back to our room to find a bottle of champagne and a birthday card from the staff. House keeping was great as well. The hotel is located near everything. The front desk provides every room with an iPad containing information about the town, where to eat, what to do and where to go. I would highly recommend this hotel to my fellow travelers visiting this area of Vermont. read more

We have loved our time here in Stowe and at Field Guide! I joined my husband on his work trip this past week. While he worked, I was able to enjoy a delicious and homemade breakfast, the beautiful pool and hot tub, and adorable and well thought out decor of the lodge. There is also coffee, tea, and water out all day and cookies and cider in the afternoon. Really, they have thought through it all. The staff are exceptionally welcoming, offering great suggestions for dinner and following up the next day to see how our previous day had been. There isn't a gym, but right across the street is a yoga studio as well as a spin studio (RIDE) that also offers barre and boot camp classes, which I really enjoyed. The Field Guide is a great choice for your stay in Stowe and we would definitely book here again should we return to this adorable ski town. read more
