I had a good stay here. It's definitely a hotel that gives a bed and breakfast type of vibe. When you walk in they have a fireplace with comfy couches to sit and lounge at off to the right. Decorated with fall and Halloween themed it looked very welcoming and inviting. To the left they have a very well stocked coffee/tea area. They brew fresh coffee all day and night. This made me smile. They have a continental breakfast set up every morning consisting of English muffins, bagels, toast, donuts, danish, and fruit. They also have a table of cere with milk options. Normally I avoid continental breakfast but it was so warm and welcoming I did go the day I left. I was not disappointed. The staff at this place are genuinely good people. You can see it. It's not a "fake" customer service experience. They are genuinely happy to be there, happy to help, and pleasant to talk to. Upon check in they gave the vibe that they "genuinely wanted me to have a good experience". My room was on the second floor of this two story hotel. The place is clean. My room did have a cat urine smell. I was room 235. It is a pet friendly hotel. I wasn't sure if it was cat urine or if it was Some sort of moisture issue. But I had with me a very small air freshener that was oil based. I opened the window and I sprayed the carpet. By the time we were fully in the room for the night I can say the smell was 90 percent gone and only returned once or twice. My spray did work. They need to really steam Clean that rooms carpets. I also had two broken tiles on the bathroom floor and my wall paper was peeling. I really do believe that a fresh coat of paint in rooms, hallways, and a good scrub of carpets is just what this place needs. I do understand this was the end of their busy season, so I will be interested to see if they do any of this before I return next year. This place also has a restaurant Connected to the hotel that serves alcohol. I have to admit that's really nice that I didn't have to leave to get food if I didn't want to. I did not have the chance to order from there but the hotel Smelled amazing and I wanted to, but, had reservations made I advance at other places. They sell postcards at the front desk f3 for $1 that I did purchase. The vending machine had everything in it you can think of. Ramen noodles, Salzburg steak dinner, soda, candy, chips. They have an area where you can leave extra food or anything extra from your trip that you don't want to take home. I had been fighting a cold and someone left zinc vitamins that I did indeed take and I have to say they helped me a lot so thank you to whomever left them. I left all my granola bars and k cups in in exchange and also made a cash donation to the box by the coffee. I did not get to try the hot tub or the indoor pool but I really wanted to. I would stay here in the future but next time I book I will call and briefly ask them to Make sure the room they put me in doesn't have that odor. Thank you for an amazing experience. Although I am only giving this hotel 4 stars, for the money, it is absolutely a 5 star value. Rooms are large and clean, with plenty of space for your gear. We were traveling with a little one, and had plenty of space for a pack and play as well. Pool, jacuzzis and saunas (his and hers for the saunas, which is great) are impossible to come by at this price point. The hotel is super easy to access, minutes from town and popular restaurants and just a few miles from the mountain (with free shuttle access right at the lodge). Breakfast is free and the complimentary evening cookies are delicious and a great treat. All things considered, this hotel is comparable with resorts at double the price, and is terrific for family's looking for a nice ski getaway, at a reasonable cost. I've been staying at the Commodore for years. Yes, it is a bit dated. Yes, it is a bit in the outskirts of Stowe. But the staff is friendly, their breakfasts are hearty, the rooms are spacious, and in my view, being pet friendly automatically adds a star to their rating. Their steak dinner is also worth the price; $17.00 for dinner anywhere in Stowe is a heck of a deal. The Inn's amenities include hot tubs, pool, and exercise room. The staff prepares fresh cookies prior to guests returning from the ski area, and a coffee bar is open 24 hours a day. A welcoming hearth with fireplace greets the weary traveler. Snowmobile and snowshoe trails are literally outside the rear door. For the ones like myself who insist in traveling with Fido, a wonderful pet sitting and pet variety store is across the street. read more

Well this one is tough. As an inn in Vermont, it's a little dated but clean with friendly people and homemade complimentary cookies. The room was fine, except our little refrigerator was really loud. The hot tub was great, saunas were closed . Game room pool table needed new cue sticks, video games were dated, pin ball worked well. The morning buffet breakfast was excellent with outstanding sausage gravy. The sports lounge was quaint, with a few tables for dining. I had the clam chowder which was far better than the overpriced one at the ski lift. I also got the fish and chips. The fish was haddock and was BY FAR the MOST delicious perfectly cooked piece I've EVER had. That being said, the fries were terrible. My son had the bacon cheeseburger which he said was fine but he ate no fries. The coleslaw was just not good. That being said I would definitely stay here again. read more

I stayed here while on a club ski trip. The check in was pretty prompt , which is greatly appreciated when arriving late with a large group. Other large resorts would take at least 30 minuets. The pool and hottub was used mostly by the kids, but it was clean and not overly chlorinated. They allowed our club to host wine and hors d'oeuvres in a conference room. The facility is somewhat dated, but the facility is clean and the beds are comfortable. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Fresh baked cookies every night, 24/7 coffee & tea, and the price is right! Breakfast was good and the server super friendly! Dinner service in the bar was very slow, but again friendly. We arrived in Stowe late afternoon and almost everything was booked up - but Commodores took us in and made us welcome. The decor is old-fashioned but we kind of liked that? Everything is in excellent condition, the bed was great, and the whole place felt cosy and friendly - the open lounge on the bottom floor makes this feel like a family homestay. No breakfast, but there's a downstairs tea/coffee bar and we went out to eat anyway. Wifi is good, everything was clean, functional, excellent customer service. We needed a cheap hotel for a quick sleep before hitting the road, again. We were pleasantly surprised at the comfort of the mattress, it was very soft! A few towels smelled weird but the room was clean and better than expected for a $60 room. The breakfast is $7.50 each so we skipped it. Water was hot and we had the basics. On the outside this place looks attractive. The prices are reasonable. They have a pool and a pond. They provide canoes and kayaks and a pedal boat to use on the pond. The rooms are a good size. The bed was comfortable and they provide nice amenities. The problem with our stay was the guest in the next room, which I believe is a long-term guest, smokes in his room and the management does nothing about it. The Vermont State law is that no smoking is allowed inside any hotel or motel in the state. On the surface this place seems to comply, but in practice, no. They have signs on the outside door that if you smoke inside you will be fined $250 and evicted. We stayed there two nights and smelled cigarette smoke in the hallway--a back hallway, the place is in a U shape, so away from the front desk. The first night I couldn't determine which room the smoking was coming from, but by the second night, I figured out it was the room next door. I complained both nights to the front desk staff and nothing was done. I sent an email to the owner, no reply. For that reason, I don't recommend this place, and we won't be staying there again. read more

The Commodores Inn (unfortunately, not owned by Lionel Richie) is the quintessential bus group hotel. It is about 8 miles from the mountain and about two miles to the main drag at Stowe. There are three indoor hot tubs and an indoor and outdoor pool. Negatives: The walls are thin. They will not give you extra towels. The beds are rock hard (don't expect to wake up feeling less stiff than you were the day before, after skiing). Some of the front desk staff is not particularly helpful. The night we arrived, some in our group tried to cab it to a bar. The gentleman at the front desk refused to call them a cab. Fun times. Pros: The service staff at both the bar and the restaurant were spectacular and super helpful. Our room was cleaned well every day. The FREE mountain shuttle picks up directly from the hotel and takes you into town and to Stowe Mountain Resort. They let you bring your own booze to the hot tub (as long as it's not in glass bottles). Tip: During ski season, get to breakfast early, with multiple buses full of people vying for breakfast all around the same time, it may be slim pickings if you don't leave yourself enough time to wait while they refill the hot food. Altogether, it was a fine ski hotel if you are looking for somewhere cheap to stay that is relatively convenient to the slopes and you don't have enough friends to make renting a house an economical proposition. read more

This place exceeds expectations. The photos at first don't seem like much, and it really isn't much, but let me tell you the service here is impeccable. Between the late afternoon cookies, the free breakfast (make sure to grab some french toast sticks at the buffet), we felt taken care of. As far as the room goes, its pretty bare bones, but it does the job. The bathroom is a bit narrow, but who really cares about that. The yacht club will transport you. The nautical Knick knacks and decor are really on theme. Make sure to place your dinner order at breakfast, or else the staff gets a little cranky. The free popcorn is a nice touch and the guys working the bar are a hoot. Overall, we will be back at Commodores, if anything for the free breakfast. Thank you for your hospitality! read more

Owned by "the Commodore" who can be met at the remote controlled sailboat races in back on many afternoons, this is a basic no frills place. Pluses include genuine homemade cookies in the warm and relaxing lobby that is more living room than motel lobby, nice pond out back and relaxing deck area, seamless wifi connection, and the great staff. But...No iron or hair dryer in room, but with a small fridge, the bed spreads and curtains are 1960-70 era. Also, the TV is one of those huge old RCA's that are as deep as they are wide- haven't seen one of those in a decade or more. Still, it was comfortable, clean, and the wall unit for heat/air was relatively quiet. The staff were all genuinely warm and helpful with a sense of humor, even the Commodore himself. Neighborhood Inn describes the place, where you go to lay your head but that's it because you are out and about in and around Stowe. It's all you need but not much more. The Commodores Inn is in need of extensive repairs and updates. The place is falling apart, filthy, and clearly neglected. Peeling wallpaper, carpet stains, rusted and busted heat vents, mismatched paint cover-ups, hair in the bathtub/shower....it is all gross. Do NOT go into the pool or hot tub as they have not been cleaned or treated properly. We got into the hot tub and immediately realized it was covered in slim and the filters were completely covered and black from hair and gunk buildup. We immediately got out and showered. The BIGGEST issue, however, was how we were treated last night. Around 11:15pm we were awakened by someone ENTERING OUR ROOM. I yelled out hello?!? and they quickly shut the door and left. About 15 minutes later we were woken up yet again, but this time by a woman banging on the door screaming at us to come out and leave the room or she was calling the cops. My husband quickly got up, in a state of confusion and disbelief, only to be threatened and screamed at more to get up and out. Once dressed, he opened the door to find a small elderly hotel clerk escorted by whom we assuming was security. My husband was completely calm, but this lady was furious. He walked down to the lobby with the two as she told my husband we were not to be in the room as our stay was only for one night and again, if we didn't leave immediately she was calling the authorities. She then clicked around on the computer to discover that we were in fact booked for 2 nights and the previous check-in clerk put us in the hand written "books" for only 1 night AND in a different room than written. Talk about WILDLY bizarre and inappropriate. Hard to fall back asleep after being woken up like that and treated so poorly. The next morning we asked for a manager to call us, but still no word from The Commodores. I want my money back from this dirty, unwelcoming place. NEVER going back and I hope no one else does either. read more

This review is for the Yacht Club restaurant and buffet. I can't comment on the lodging as I haven't stayed here in many years (though I remember having a pleasant experience). The dining room is small but warm, decked out in autumn decor and softly lit with white string lights, lending a cozy ambiance. Service was pleasant and attentive. We dined tonight with only a few other small groups, so it was very quiet. I didn't mind that at all. The buffet itself was modest, featuring prime rib along with three other entrees and several sides, plus a soup and salad bar. The guy cutting the prime rib was a little skimpy with the thickness of the cut, and only one slice is included in your meal ($3 for each additional slice). Sides included mashed potatoes, green beans, carrots, fried mushrooms, and pot stickers. The other entrees were thai spiced duck, chicken saltimbocca, lemon pepper haddock, and pasta and sauce. Average food overall, basically what you would expect for hotel fare. At $17/person, we expected a bigger spread. Worth a try if you are staying at the hotel, but I wouldn't go out of my way. At first glance the Commodores Inn didn't look like it was worth the $100 per person, per night. We had 2 rooms with 4 people in each, so I'm guessing the rooms cost roughly 300-400 for a two double bed room. The place looked straight out of the 70's just like most of the buildings in the area. I am by no means tall, but taller individuals will have some trouble in certain areas, the ceilings are really low. I don't know which genius architect decided to make the walls slant inwards on the third floor but yeah, you might want to watch your head when getting up late at night. The Inn is also slightly farther away from the mountain than we originally expected but still relatively close 8 miles away. The hot water would also run low at peak times, so if you are staying with a group, make sure to get dibs on the shower. The pros of this Inn are the genuinely nice people that work at the Inn, the cozy atmosphere and the relatively good food that was included with our package. Our deal included a hearty breakfast with eggs, bagels, fruits, and etc. and a solid dinner with prime rib and numerous other options. read more

The Commodore's Inn treated our group like we were old friends. Owner Carrie checked up on us personally a few times to ensure that our stay was perfect. Stephanie was almost super human with her attention to detail and her efforts to keep our group happy. They even opened the restaurant 30 minutes early for breakfast so that we could get an early start on our days. 80 of us stayed here for 4 nights and I did not hear a single complaint from the group. We do 2 big trips a year and the Commodore's Inn is our favorite place to stay. The rooms were nice and clean and the breakfasts and dinners were great. Cookies were available in the lobby and the the lobby staff were competent and courteous. I would not hesitate to recommend the Commodore's Inn to family and friends. read more

Stayed here with my wife on a relaxation/ski trip. Pros: Service was great and staff was very friendly. Cookies were made available in the lobby every afternoon which was a nice touch. They also offered free breakfast every morning, but I'd recommend other places in the area as there are many options (Green Goddess Cafe is A+!). They have a game room which we took advantage to play some pool and video games, although the latter may need to get a tune up (Demolition Man pinball machine was cool). Cons: Walls were paper thin for the rooms. We had neighbors that had 2 screaming babies that we heard clear as day and woke us up twice one of the nights. While the neighbors may not have been a reflection of the hotel, the hotel really should get that addressed in some way. Luckily we only dealt with it a short time All in all, the place was clean and did the job for us, in a great location. This is probably a 3.5, but feeling generous and will rate it a 4. read more

This is the facility I stay at every trip to Stowe Vermont. I do so because it's great value plus it allows my dogs that travel with me. The only issue or the biggest issue with this in is that it is a very dated. The breakfast that's offered is average which is why most times I just eat in town. If the owners were to go and do a modern update and not just replace what is already there with the same styling they would definitely be able to book better Business at a higher cost to offset the remodel. It was a cozy get away with peace and quiet. I was greeted warmly by the host, and everything was clean. I loved swimming in the indoor pool, and having hot chocolate afterwards. The best part was having a picnic by the beautiful lake. It made my Vermont experience authentic surrounded by nature. I loved having a short walk to Stowe, Village. Stayed here due to a deal for skiing and lodgings, and really liked it. It's a quaint little place, decked to the gills with nautical knickknacks. We got a deal with breakfasts and dinners included, and both were good (breakfast, especially). Enjoyed the hot tubs and especially the saunas (the dials are in the locker room, FYI). Liked the little bar off the dining room and was pleasantly surprised how late it was open when I arrived around eleven. It isn't super close to the mountain, but the drive wasn't too bad and the roads were okay even during a pretty big snowstorm. I'd definitely stay here again. read more

We booked into this Inn based on its visual "street" appeal. We were impressed from the moment we met the front desk staff. And it only got better from there. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The restaurant, while having a limited menu, is very good and reasonably priced. They have indoor and outdoor pools, sauna and Jacuzzi's, and a playroom for the kids. We arrived on a Wednesday afternoon and I asked about the Stowe Yacht Club (it being in the mountains) and was told that the "club" was a radio-controlled model sailboat club and was meeting out at the pond behind the Inn at that moment. They invited me to join them and loaned me a boat. What a "hoot." I sail model yachts in Southern California so this was a real treat to be welcomed into their sailing community. Our overall experience was very pleasant. Moderate prices/ excellent accommodations. read more

Accommodations were what i was hoping for. Hotel situated 7 miles from Stowe mountain, and 90miles from Killington. There is Prime Rib dinner buffet that suited us well since we were so hungry when we got back from the mountains. 16.95 and they add 15% gratuity. The prime rib was on point!! the other buffet selections and salad bar was fine. The staff was friendly. There is an indoor swimming pool, 3 jacuzzis and they even have free coffee, juice, hot cocoa in the lobby. oh and i can't forget the baked cookies in the lobby! So if you're looking for a family oriented hotel, or just a decent place to stay so you can tackle the mountains this is an indeal place and location for you. read more
