Very positive experience from the moment I checked in. The front desk was very accommodating to my early arrival, Charolette was kind, courteous m, answered all of my questions and she has a great attitude. There are two Resturants on site and they both served some great food and excellent staff. There is a spa on site also, with two pools & hot tubs indoors and out doors, sauna, lounge chairs pool side (inside) with some bright lights to make you feel like your outside! Hot tubs inside is huge with a waterfall. Great after a day of skiing or a tough day of shopping and hiking. The rooms are large and clean. Water pressure for shower was the best! Daily maid service and room service available. Comfortable beds and I slept like a rock. Site is close to Stowe Ski resort and there's an excellent ski shop at the end of the driveway incase you need or want to pick some gear (great staff there also). Full spa services, great spa products on sale. I loved my stay and would stay again at a moment notice! Thank you!! read more

We came to Topnotch for a bachelorette in August 2023! We booked an entire house + one extra room for 12 girls (2 nights). The house was gorgeous and had everything we needed. The cost was about $350 a person so it's not cheap up here in Stowe! The service, restaurant, & spa all exceeded expectations. I would recommend this resort for a trip or couples getaway. We spent a lot of time at the pool/jacuzzi and it was clean & adults only near the spa. Overall, a great experience! read more

If prices are an indication Topnotch is positioned as a premium property. But, it is tired. Low energy. The pool is dirty. If one is willing to wait a long time, brown bag lunches are available at the pool at Ritz Carlton prices. Staff is spending their time on smartphones or looking at computer screens rather than focusing on guests (or cleaning the pool). It is doubtful that the franchise can be milked much more. If the owners are unwilling to invest in the property they may be well served by selling it. read more

I stayed here and let me tell you nothing beats the view from the pools! The service for the room was wonderful, but the kitchen could use some serious work. Also the sink and the washing machine both had mold in them. They offers to come clean them, but I really didn't want to deal with that while I was staying there. Our first time staying here! We come to stowe every year but haven't stayed at TN until now. They are the best hotel in Stowe by far. The people are so kind. The front desk was wonderful checking in. They even had warm chocolate chip cookies. The older man named John who came to do turn down service was so nice always smiling and willing to help! The pools were so clean and warm. After the first night sleeping on the pull-out we asked for a rollaway bed because the pull out was not very comfortable. I'm upgrading the review because of how the manager handled things, because of his commitment to fix the rooms, and challenges they face trying to find people to work. The walls were very dirty and the furniture was beat up. The tub grout had a lot of mold and mildew and the bathroom ceiling paint is blistered. The shower soap dispenser was mounted over 5' above the floor so it was hard to get soap if your short. The TV system is circa 1984 with no streaming capability. The outlets are not upgraded to offer USB charging. No other time were available. The manager said that room is on a renovation list when the busy season ends. ZERO Stars. DISASTER. NOT WORTH A PENNY. Spend your money elsewhere. My teenager and I are low key, and just needed places to eat and transport to get there. The resort clearly was upselling us the entire time, telling us it was IMPOSSIBLE to find a table for dinner or a way to get anywhere. Then why accept the booking? When we would order room service, it showed up two hours late. And all we ordered were yogurts and coffee! Then, when we wanted to eat at the hotel restaurant, it was 75% empty but the host tells us "they're at capacity." Why? I'm not making this up; when I was getting ready to leave at 10:56, male housekeeping opens the door to my room as I am getting dressed. For the price we were charged (Ritz Carlton prices), I expect someone to help us figure out where to eat, help us figure out how to get around, feed us on property, and not walk in on my room as I am getting dressed. If you want luxe resort, *don't stay here*. If you reserve, just expect below mediocrity - and then you'll realize it's not worth the price they charge. read more

Top notch resort used to be a 5-star classy top notch place. Not anymore! It has declined to 3-star resort at best in both decor, accommodation and food services. The worst part is the AMBIANCE: The bare one- desk one- table entrance ( no leather seats or sofas around a fire place, which would make a huge impact) .....connected to what looks like a simple "camp cafeteria" and bar in a same open space, all noisy with wooden bare tables ..... killing what a separate small but elegant and warm main restaurant with light music and tablecloths could have offered The problem is the unsophisticated design( of the designer ) and poor taste ( of the owner), and has nothing to do with having the needed space or having the budget for expensive decor. Trying to look modern ended up looking cheap and cold The restaurant, hampered and hindered by the casual below average decor, is also average at best in terms of cuisine and food quality Rooms fees are high but decor average, and comes with old noisy bathroom fan. Beautiful location, nice views and friendly staff. The outside and inside pools and hot tubs are really nice. Pretty much everything about the place was nice - except the rooms. For the price of a night we expected the rooms to be nicer. The furniture needs updating (the finishing was worn off), the blinds were broken, the wall had flaking paint near the ceiling, and the bathroom door needed paint and fixing (the bottom of the door looked like it was in water). What would one expect when staying at a hotel for a weekend getaway spending nearly $1100? Being Vermont, maybe a Mountain View at the very least? A room that doesn't have banged up walls and a dead moth in the corner of the room (found immediately when entering)? Once these concerns were brought to the attention of the front desk "manager", I was treated very poorly, told "this IS Vermont, there are bugs," as this is understandable, when you literally just walk into your room you would at least expect a vacuumed carpet, no? Manager was very defensive and argumentative regarding my concerns instead of being apologetic and understanding, seeing that we are paying literally TOP DOLLAR to stay. To rectify the original lack of view (room had windows facing the side of the other building), the manager allowed my husband and I to transfer to another room with a view of the parking lot. He also took $87 off the final total leaving us somewhere around $900 for 2 nights. Staff was always lingering around, using their cellphones and speaking in a different language. As my husband and I were out attempting to relax and use the hot tub we noticed one male staff member right outside the pool area sitting on his cellphone making us very uncomfortable. Maybe he wasn't doing anything wrong but you don't sit on your cellphone facing the pool area when people are trying to relax in their bathing suits. It makes you feel uncomfortable- is he taking pictures? We of course felt too fearful to even bring this up to the front desk manager because we were being treated poorly enough. The sides of the pool were also slimy. One absolutely positive thing was the view from the pool. It is very beautiful and something to be enjoyed. We also really liked the indoor pool and hot tub which we used later on the second evening. The restaurant was very bad. Another time my husband and I felt like all we were doing the whole time was feeling disappointed- and we are NOT PICKY PEOPLE- we just expect a certain quality when spending top dollar in todays economy! The crab dip was completely microwaved, cold on the bottom and a thick slab of lumpy, gross smelling cheese on top. We immediately sent this back. By the time our steak came out we were so starving we ate it but this was no better. Tasted as if it were marinated in vinegar. another $44 down the drain. My husband and I have stayed in Stowe multiple times and always enjoyed the lodge at Spruce Peak. Unfortunately, on this particular weekend, they were sold out of rooms. For comparison however, I called to see how much a one bedroom king-size room would be and it was exponentially cheaper. I think positive reviews regarding this hotel are only because these people have never stayed anywhere else. The lodge at Spruce Peak is really the TOP NOTCH, real deal in Stowe. If you're looking in Stowe and expect, at the very least, a vacuumed carpet in your $1100 hotel room, do not stay here. read more

Very disappointed! The staff was incredibly overwhelmed and unable to support us with solutions like local transportation. We were assured twice before our stay by the agents that a rental car wasn't needed and a resort shuttle could take us to town or to local restaurants. Very different story once we arrived. We were unable to find any taxis or Uber, and the resort wouldn't offer their shuttles due to a wedding in which they said took priority. The Spa was very disappointing. Hand and Stone has a better ambiance and overall experience. We did LOVE the only two servers for the one restaurant that was open on the property, Carlos and Pedro. They were so wonderful and were working their tails off. Until this resort can hire more well trained staff and treat every guest as a priority...I would stay away!! I was planning on writing a 4 star review as my husband & I just had our "mini moon" here. The staff was attentive, room *appeared* clean (not anything to write home about though given how expensive it was) & the amenities offered were nice (pool, hot tub, spa etc), however on our last night we discovered a roach in our room climbing up the bed frame. While this stay was gifted to us, knowing how much money was spent on the 4 star experience finding a roach is just unacceptable. What was worse was that the staff appeared very nonchalant when we let them know, as if this wasn't the first time it's happened. We thought they'd be shocked & apologetic & they weren't. They immediately switch our room to one on the 2nd floor (we'd been staying in a "suite" on the 3rd - which wasn't a suite was just a room with a king bed & a desk). When we arrived on the 2nd floor we found the whole floor to have a very off smell, almost like urine? (The 3rd floor & our room there smelled fine.) The smell continued in to the room, & my husband was so uncomfortable staying there that we took the 5 hour drive home at 11pm. My husband was a NYS licensed exterminator for 8 years. While we were still enjoying the stay, we noticed that the restaurant Flannel near the spa smelt like a dirty kitchen from the hallway. We joked about not eating there & opted for The Roost instead. The joke was on us because where our room was located was essentially 2 floors above the area of the restaurant, so while disappointed he wasn't shocked about the roaches. I'd get the kitchen cleanliness of Flannel under control so that another guest doesn't have to experience that. Again the staff/grounds/everything else was lovely, but given how much $ people spend to stay here we weren't expecting to find a roach. We've stayed in many resorts/hotels & have never found a roach, this honestly appeared to be the nicest until that happened. read more

The rooms at the Top Notch Resort are smartly appointed and clean. The beds have luxury linens and the baths are stocked with nice towels and robes. It is nice to have the outdoor heated pool in the winter months and the fire pits around the property are a nice touch. The staff were helpful and pleasant throughout the stay. The amenities are nice - it is great to have an on-site spa. The pool attendant was a nice gentleman who offered guests bottled water and made sure the pool area was tidy. The indoor spa whirlpool needed to be drained and scrubbed as the waterline on the tile was covered in a scum that was not pleasant in anyway. The outdoor pool was refreshing. The only unfortunate is that bigger groups dominated the amenities and didn't abide by the time limits. Taking liberties to take over the hot tub areas for hours at a time took away from the other guests which was unfortunate. The only other consideration on the property is that the wood construction of the inn means that if you have guests on the floor above you the sound of the other guests walking around their room is very loud. read more

This is a wonderful place. It's dog and kid friendly -- so lots of dogs abound (those rooms are on the first floor), and plenty of roasting marshmallows by the fire at night. The resort is situated at a high point in Stow, so the views are gorgeous for coffee in the morning and wine at night. There are a few services and amenities they still offer in the covid enviroment -- including yoga, and certain massages. The service is friendly and very accomodating. read more

The parents need to control their children in the main hallways. Kids running & stomping up and down the halls all day long like cattle. Pricey, upscale resort, parents need to teach their children to walk and not be so rambunctious. The ceilings are thin, you can hear the guests in the room above you walking up and down especially when your trying to sleep in. Breakfast is up there in price, but again it's a resort and expected. $15 for traditional eggs, bacon, home fries & toast and $4 for coffee. Looking at $20-25 per person for breakfast. The Roost lounge is fun. Around 4:30-6 live music and après ski. During lunch service Saturday the bartender Mae seemed overwhelmed with the service, I think there should of been two bartenders for a busy Saturday lunch. Rooms are average, bathroom could be a little tight depending on room type, we had king bed and the bathroom could of definitely been larger to move around in. Hotel soaps and such in shower. The men's only spa lounge area was nice retreat from all the kids in the pool area. Steam room, sauna, hot tub, relaxing area. One parent got upset because kids 12 and under have to be supervised and she didn't want to stay out in cold and watch them in the outdoor pool, so that was nice because they had to leave and some adults had some peace and quiet. read more

Definitely a top hotel in Stowe and a good choice if you book it far enough in advance (or somehow snag some sort of discount with the manager). We only stayed in the private villas/houses along the north end of the site, but the accommodations were really nice (3+/4 star I'd say), and houses come with an electric fireplace. The common spaces and lobby are very nicely done, and they have live music on Saturday nights for most of the winter season. The pool and outdoor jacuzzis are very popular, and they even have indoor and outdoor tennis. The gym membership is about $3k/year for those that live in the area or come often. While they did provide shuttles back and forth to Stowe Mountain (along with storage for ski gear), they didn't give us a ride to our private villa because they said we didn't pay the extra "spa resort fee" or something like that. We also didn't have hot water for showers for most nights in our villas. We didn't try the food, but it looked good, however the kitchen closes at 10pm - I must have heard 3 or 4 different people asking about that. Seems like a missed business opportunity. Also, for being so close to the best northeast breweries, they should stock better beer! read more

Carol, the "concierge" is the most unpleasant, unhelpful, and disrespectful person we have ever encountered. She treated both her staff and guests who were not white with equal disdain. If you asked for help, you were met w a scowl and attitude that made you feel like you were severely inconveniencing her. The night shift bartenders at the Roost, also had a similar attitude. Refusing to change the channel or serve us, when we were the only ones there...very entitled and an unhelpful bunch. Now onto the positive, the resort itself is lovely. The rooms are mostly upgraded, but the rug needs to go. Jack is unbelievable and really is the mvp here. That man deserves a raise, and always went above and beyond to try and make the guests happy. He always has a big smile on his face and you can tell he takes a lot of pride in his job. Please hire more people like Jack. read more

We didn't want to leave! 5 star service from the moment we walked in and felt like family when we left. The resort is clean and quiet. The perfect place to stay during your stay in the most romantic town, Stowe. The staff ensured every need was met, even delivered a bucket of a few Vermont beers to try. My husband and I chose to visit Stowe, VT for our anniversary weekend because we wanted to visit the breweries in that area. I found Topnotch through Trip Advisor where it has great reviews. We had such a relaxing stay at this resort! We booked a couples package that included access to the spa and it is BEAUTIFUL in there. My husband got a massage that used hops infused oils and was thrilled because it included a free beer and beer soap. I got a pedicure and it was truly the best pedicure of my life. I unfortunately couldn't use the hot tub because I'm pregnant but all the facilities were so nice! I want to go back when I'm not pregnant just so I could take advantage of everything. We had room service delivered on multiple occasions from both of the restaurants on site. The food was delicous! Thinking about it now, I don't know how we managed to see eight breweries AND spend plenty of time enjoying our resort in just three days. If relaxing at the resort isn't your thing, I still recommend this place solely on the great customer service by all of their employees. From check in to check out each staff member was so kind and welcoming. We checked in with Nick and he was hilarious! He gave us a thorough description of everything on site and it was so nice to talk to someone with a personality. read more

This review is for the spa only as I live locally. My best girl friend and I went here a few months ago for some girl time and pampering. Honestly, if I wasn't able to get us a discount (I am fortunate to have an "in" with someone who works there), there's no way we would have been able to go - it is SO expensive! We both got 90 minute deep tissue massages and facials. Having never received a deep tissue massage before, I don't have anything to compare it to but WOW. The woman I had was just fantastic! Unlike a recent reviewer's description, my masseuse was quiet (which I appreciated) and I quickly fell into a coma-like trance. I left the massage area feeling calm and peaceful. We later had facials, which we both liked - the woman I had was chatty but I didn't mind. The treatment generally calls for some kind of conversation anyway (discussing the condition of your skin, care tips, etc) and, as with other facial treatments I have had, they also try to push their overly expensive products. The woman had a sense of humor about it though and made a comment about them being pricey and she probably wouldn't get them either. The locker rooms were clean, hot tubs nice, service impeccable. Loved our stay here. This place is so clean and beautiful. Indoor pool and jacuzzi is amazing. Then you have the outdoor heated pool and jacuzzi. By 8pm they light fire pits outside and you can just hang all night by the fire. Staff is amazing and everything I asked for I got within minutes. Finally, after all these years, we made it back to The Top Notch; And so glad we did! Last time we were here the renovations were underway. Now completed, the house is all in order, with the new front desk and the Roost lounge the place really does astound. Live guitar music on Sunday night, with a nice fire in its place aglow (like most of the patrons) and nice! This place is definitely kids friendly, for the little-ones seemed to have the run-of-the-place. But to the important things: once again the service and accommodations are impeccable; the place is very clean (there always seemed to be lots of staff around, cleaning all the time); the staff visible, friendly, easy to talk to and very accessible and eager to help anyone, in anyway, to insure that the guest is granted any and all requests (within reason, of course). The pool and spar are the best by far. The room we had was spacious and comfortable. And much to be impressed: they put in the little coffee-maker upon my last (years ago) request. Certainly they listened to their guests and pay very close attention to detail. We even had a retractable clothes hanger in the shower to hang our swim suits to dry. Only regret: didn't get the mountain view. Boo Hoo! On other fronts: It is nice to have the restaurant, Flannels right there on site, but was booked up all through the night. I have never stayed at Topnotch Resort because the rooms are in too close to each other, just like a hotel. I wouldn't mind staying there, but there are many kids and lots of noise. The apartments are more secluded but extremely expensive, it would be worth it to go with another couple, but otherwise, 900.00 a night is a lot for me. I do love the spa and the indoor pool area. I also love the view of Mount Mansfield, it's breathtaking and serene. I have been to this resort many times for Sunday brunch and dinner. I was always very happy with the food and service. Last summer, however; I had two spa treatments, and it was different and not as good as before. I had the Mount Mansfield Saucha, and it was not what I expected much to my chagrin. I was expecting it to be the incredible experience that I had a few years ago, and so I booked the 105 minutes for 210.00 dollars. I doubt I will choose this again. Not sure why it wasn't the same, I told the massage therapist it was different, and she replied it was the same. I remember the last time, I felt like I was walking on clouds when the treatment was done. Unfortunately, I also went to Flannel for lunch which was also a disappointment. My friend and I both ordered the quiche Lorraine and it wasn't good at all, quite mediocre. Neither one of us liked the quiche. The crust wasn't good, and the filling was "eggy". I had eaten at Norma's for many, many years and I was never disappointed. Unfortunately, the new owners are not doing a great job. It's been a ritual for me to end up at Top Notch for dinner and Sunday Brunch but after the disappointing experience, I'm not sure I'll go back yet. Perhaps it was just the quiche that wasn't good, but a very good chef ought to know how to make quiche! Our server was very professional and very nice, we still gave him a great tip for his services, but we didn't bother to tell him we were not happy with the food. Some advice to the new European owners, if you want people to go back, you need to make Topnotch Resort top notch like it used to be before you decided to cut corners financially. You'll most like have people going there because it's a beautiful resort, but the changes you've made may not get you many repeat customers. I was (still am) also sad that you decided to get rid of the cozy room with the giant fireplace and the reception room with the piano. However, my review has nothing to do with COVID, and the team is making every effort to provide a safe environment. This review is for the spa only. I have been to this spa on our annual fall trip to Stowe and have come back for a reason. However this visit was beyond unsatisfactory and not worth the money or even my time. Cleanliness= five stars Covid safe = five stars Woman's locker room attendant = five stars First desk women, whom was training a male, needs to remember customer service comes first. The chilly welcoming set the tone for a downhill ride. I was charged at the beginning of my visit, I was not told my tip would be included and/or that this is part of the new protocol to reduce contact. Just inform your quests, as I still went to checkout and do a tip because I wasn't informed. Do not include my tip. I will always tip for great service(s) this is tactless. I started with the signature massage, which they sale as being customized. My masseuse didn't ask me what my body needed. So I told her what I needed, which proved to be pointless as she just did the normal routine. Also, saying I got a massage would be too much as I got a rub down. I left with the same knots that arrived with and more frustration. Next, I moved onto the signature facial. I have extremely sensitive skin and conveyed this to my esthetician. Again, I'm not sure why I said anything as in one ear out the other...the products burned my skin, the rough towels she scrapped my skin down with, to the aggressive extractions. My face is angry. When you go to a spa, the customer service is usually top notch and the service providers do aim to satisfy their customers-alas not my experience. I don't know what happened this day, but really other than the locker room attendant (the only reason for three stars) I am beyond disappointed. read more

Crazy stay. We had a blast the first night. Went to the spa and went swimming and went in the outdoor and indoor hot tub, met some amazing guests and chatted with them. Ordered room service, which was good and drank at the bar. Every person in that hotel is super kind and friendly. However the next morning, we found a bug on the bed. We were very creeped out by it and left that morning. They only took off the resort fee. They didn't offer for us to change rooms (mind you that the place was at 30% occupancy because i asked when i was checking in). This bug ruined our whole vacation. There was also a spider on the wall. The rooms need updating. They need black out curtains. I woke up to sun shining in my eyes. The bathroom was so small, I couldn't even close the door without hitting my legs. You cannot charge the amount you charge for those rooms. Maybe make up for it with a spa fee or something because the rooms are not what you pay for. Was so disappointed that we found bugs in the room, I was really looking forward to the rest of the stay and was so turned off from the spiders and bugs we couldn't even stay another night. Also disappointed that I wasn't refunded the night. I left because the room was dirty not because I wanted to leave early. read more

Newly renovated, the resort has a friendly atmosphere, somewhat upscale with a good bar and spa. The staff are extremely helpful and offer free lifts to the mountain and ski storage. Food at the bar was excellent and local with a good range of beers on tap - also try the shuffle board. What let's the resort down is the rooms in the hotel. Whilst they have done a great job if the common areas during renovation, the rooms feel somewhat standard and lack a New England charm or character. Topnotch is just that - top notch. Everything about the resort and my experience there was so wonderful. The atmosphere and energy there just makes me want to literally quit my job, move to Vermont, and get a job there just so I can stay forever. The decor is gorgeous and inviting, filled with plenty of spots to sit down, rest, and chat. The employees are so friendly, they seem so happy to be there. How could they not be? Surrounded by the most beautiful views, including Mt. Mansfield, Topnotch is the perfect getaway spot. The pool is so wonderful; clear blue water heated to the perfect temperature. I could sit in it, drinking a daiquiri and staring at the mountains, until the end of time. It's heavenly. The rooms themselves are very nice, the beds are soft and comfortable, and the resort even provides you with free bottles of water in your room! My friends that visited the spa absolutely loved it, although it can be a bit pricey. Regardless, according to them it was worth every penny! My one regret is that I don't have another trip to Topnotch planned. read more
