The roasted squash was soft and caramelized with delicious pumpkin sabayon and apple reductions. The chicken liver mousse tartine was buttery with surprise pops of flavor. Drinks were well mixed. This is a really quaint restaurant it's great if you don't want the place to be too loud. The dimmed lights and music gives a perfect dinner vibe. We came here for a birthday, the server gave us complimentary "bubbles" to cheers with, which was very sweet. I do have to say, the mocktails here were pretty disappointing. They seem to just be sparkling water with maybe some syrup added but overall they're pretty bland. The mocktails and oysters were nothing to rave about, however the entrees were the stars of the show. The ratatouille was so juicy and very delicious. The salmon was cooked well but the side of the salad was what stole the show for me, I believe it was a corn side. The steak was pretty small for the price but it was melt in your mouth delicious. The desserts were great, we even got a little candle in one of them for the birthday girl. We got the chocolate fig which had a hidden surprise of salt sprinkled on top, and the pumpkin dessert. One thing I wasn't a fan of was that the food was not brought out at once. It has one person sitting with their meal while the others wait on there's. That and the mocktails are my only complaints. My daughter and I recently went to Field Bar & Bottle on 6th Avenue for dinner to celebrate her birthday. I have numerous food sensitivities & trying to find something I can eat is always a challenge. Our server, Ivanna, was an absolute gem! She was determined to feed me. We went through items on the menu trying to find something and once she found out what I couldn't eat, she went to the Chef to see what they could come up with. The dish they brought me was absolutely delicious and more than I could have hoped for! Field Bar & Bottle Shop I think is one of the last of the cocktail bars we were trying to catch up on that are on 6th Ave. Steve and I just came here to try the drinks, have some snacks and a dessert so not a full on meal. I am grateful they squeezed us in because it looked like they were full and only had reservations for the empty tables but when they knew we were just snacking they fit us in at a reserved table for an hour. The snacks were really good! We had some awesome spiced nuts and some marinated olives. The olives were fantastic! For the dessert we shared the Ginger Shortcake with Matcha Ice Cream. Really good and unique! The drink I had was from their seasonal part of their cocktail menu and it was so good! It was a drink with horchata foam on the top and it was just out of this world. I tried to get the precise name for this drink for my review but after looking at their menu online their seasonal drinks aren't there. So if you are interested go to the seasonal part on the drink menu and look for the horchata framed drink or ask your server for it. As far as the bottle shop part it's more for wine, sherubs or elixir types of items which is nice because there aren't usually bottle shops with inventory quite like this as it's often beer. So keep that in mind... they don't have bottle of beers here. They do have some it looks like on tap. Looking forward for a return visit and maybe have a full meal. I've been here for dinner but they just opened a brunch (9 am-2 pm) and I had to try it out. Kids are welcome at Field but it's not a kid friendly restaurant really, so brunch is a perfect time for some nice food when you have to bring along a toddler. The place was pretty full when we got in about 10am, but they made a spot for us (toddler wedged in on bench where she couldn't run off!) and we ordered right away. (Note our backup if there was a long wait was gather juice which is right next door!) We got the banana bread (ordered immediately for kiddo), yogurt granola, shakshuka, side of potatoes. Blueberry shrub soda, and water. Would've ordered a side of toast but the server pointed out the shakshuka comes with toast! Toddler liked the banana bread, and we loved our food! I ate far too much - I especially liked the potatoes with the shakshuka. The banana bread is just so kid friendly. My friend liked her yogurt granola bowl! This place is almost like a hidden gem. Right on 6th avenue, it is so cute and neighborly. When I've been it's either been happy hour time - not that busy - or dinner and super busy! Their mixologists know how to put together drinks! Hands down one of the best bars in town! The food is also exceptional. I love their ricotta and crusty bread. I have eaten a whole dish by myself because it is so good. The only thing is that their portions seem to be small(er) and higher price points. I understand that may work for their audience/target market but that will make me not go often. Although happy hour is a happy medium, I can't get away from work to really enjoy it. For a Pre- Mother's Day appreciation, I took my mom to The Field for our first time, and the experience did not disappoint. The standout of our visit was the impeccable service from (if memory serves me correct ) Irina, who made the meal feel extra special. She was filled with grace and kindness to my mom of 78. We started with apps of featuring hearty toasted sourdough, a pickled plate of veggies, and Hamma Hamma oysters--both were phenomenal, especially with their unique pickled twist (secret that I cannot reveal). I enjoyed an old-fashioned that hit just the right notes. my mom had a gimlet and finished off with it. Odd Chardonnay. We also Tacoma a bottle of Chardonnay, which was really strange, but I enjoyed it better even with the family. With so many tempting dishes on the menu, I'll definitely be returning with family and friends to explore more of what The Field has to offer. read more

And friendly, helpful and warm. But tonight was the 2nd time the tall, larger lady behind the bar was rude to me. I was ordering takeout and was greeted my the most lovely man. He took my order and seated me at the bar. He checked on me and I was having a lovely experience. The larger lady came and brought me a bag of food and laid a bill in front of me and said very coldly, everything is on the bill just sign. Dropped the bill on the bar and walked away. No thank you. Ok, wow. But then I look down and I was charged a 20% service fee. For placing an order, sitting at the bar and being handed a bag? And for her to be so rude and dismissive. Well, myself and my friends won't be back. Because she treated me poorly another visit last year. How unfortunate but that is not the experience I want. read more

Field has become my favorite restaurant in Tacoma. The food and drinks are sensational - creative and delicious! (I still can't figure out how they make that magic in their tiny kitchen.) I love the atmosphere, perfect for hanging out with friends or a date night cozied up at the bar. The highlight, though, is their amazing team (and women owners!) They are quick to engage with diners, both with recommendations, descriptions of dishes, or just friendly chats. The bar and bottle shop is an excellent choice for dinner on 6th ave. The food quality is on par with with Seattle quality, and all the ingredients were clearly top quality. Upon walking in we were quickly greeted by staff, we had a reservation so we were quickly seated. I was there on a Thursday so we probably could have gotten seated without a reservation but the dining room is relatively small so if you're going I would recommend make a reservation ahead of time just in case. They do have bar seating available in a first come first serve basis as well. The decor is all related to out doors themes which goes well the field theme of the restaurant. Over all both my wife and myself really enjoyed our time here and will definitely come again. They have an extensive cocktail list which I didn't get to try this time but will hopefully get to review in my next visit. read more

We've been wanting to try this place for a while and a pre-Mother's Day date night. It's super cute inside, with lots of wines, syrups, etc arranged on shelves down the middle, separating the bar/kitchen from the tables. There aren't many tables so reservations are a good idea. I tried the Team Zissou cocktail and loved it. Sharon ordered a glass of the Réaltière Pastel Provence rosé. I hear it was quite good (wine's not really my thing). We decided to start with the sourdough - a bowl of fresh sourdough with house ricotta and a jam (rhubarb tonight). Our server was great. Very friendly and on top of her tasks. We asked about the wine club and she was super informative. She reminded us that the food comes out as it gets done, e.g. your table may get dishes at different times. The kitchen is small and this works for them. I decided on the tamarind BBQ meatballs while Sharon ordered the duck gnocchi. The gnocchi arrived first. My god. Polenta gnocchi?!? Yes. Please. Again. The duck was very, very good. Butter poached radishes. WTH? How do we make these at home? The meatballs were also fantastic. Amazing mix of flavors. We accompanied our "main" dishes with the Rose Dewitt and the Good Vibrations. We finished with the chocolate crème brûlée and the rhubarb frangipane galette. Oh no. The crème brûlée was gone... Two galettes it was. Everything was great! I highly recommend Field Bar & Bottle Shop. This may be my new favorite place in T-Town. read more

I'll give them 3 stars overall but really it's more like 2.5 stars. For the price you pay, I just had higher expectations. I think because Tacoma has so few places like this, it's easier for places to get good reviews because there's not a lot of competition. However, when compared to other restaurants of this vein in other cities, they would not be a 5 star place by any stretch. 2 stars for service- the waitress was friendly but not very attentive and messed up a drink order. It was a very simple drink order too. Instead of making it right by making the drink again or taking it off the bill, she brought out a little glass of the missing ingredient and we had to mix it ourselves. That was a pretty big fail in my eyes.it makes that 20% mandatory tip sting when you are not actually getting that level of service. 2.5 stars for food- we had the oysters which were on special, they were good but not great. Their take on it, picked beets on top, was a bit of a miss in my opinion. The gnocchi dish was delicious but the Red curry was disappointing. That dish was just executed strangely. It came out in a soup bowl, and two additional small bowls so we could share. But no serving spoon was included so it was awkward trying to spoon the soup/curry into our individual bowls with these tiny spoons. There were also large pieces of broccoli in it with long stems. Again, very awkward to eat with our tiny spoons. It was an odd choice for vegetables. The flavor of the curry was very good though. En Rama and Wooden City do a much better job with their food and also have great ambiance and service. Cocktails 4 stars- other than the drink that was messed up (would have been a 5 if not for that) the two seasonal cocktails I had were delicious! Ambiance/Atmosphere 5 stars- the vibe was great and it felt good walking into the place. This is one thing they have done really well. I would definitely go back but only for drinks and skip the food. It's good but for the price I would expect better quality and much better execution of everything. I have more issue with that then the portion size. read more

A few weeks ago, a friend who was shopping for a nice bottle of wine for her son's upcoming birthday asked that I take her to Field Bar & Bottle Shop. She had heard her son speak highly of this new place and figured that they would have solid recommendations to share. Walking in the door, it was immediately obvious that this nicely appointed establishment on Tacoma's constantly redeveloping 6th Avenue had been planned as a bar that sold bottles but, in the wake of COVID, had adapted itself to be a bottle shop that will one day soon also serve drinks. I was very impressed with the owner, Brian Hibbard, who gave my friend excellent advice on wine and also gave me some very knowledgeable background on bitters - a subject about which I previously knew next to nothing. Having enjoyed my first visit, I stopped in again yesterday to investigate another area of the liquor world about which I know nothing: aperitifs. Once again, the friendly and well educated Brian gave me an introductory course on the subject, sold me a bottle of Pasubio (which some friends and I *loved* yesterday evening), and refused a much deserved tip. Now that the pandemic is slowly but assuredly receding, I'm really hoping that it won't be long before this cozy little hideaway can start realizing it's full potential as both a bottle shop and bar. If Brian is as knowledgeable a bartender as he is a sommelier and liquor expert, I can easily see this place becoming a major player in Tacoma's bar/bistro/brewpub scene - and I can see myself sampling many of his tasty concoctions. Meantime, though, if you're looking for anything from a vino to enjoy with a meal to a bottle for a gift or special occasion, or if you just want to learn more about wine, beer, and spirits, step in the door and start asking questions - and be sure to sign up for one of their regular tastings, too. I was a bit sensitive to some of the reviews. My friend raved about this place, so some Yelp experiences left me wondering if FB&BS was over-hyped. Early spoiler alert: it's not! My rating is a solid 4.5! . I am so happy for their inclusion in the T-Town food scene. Vibe: Beautifully organized and intimate space. The music was . Whoever curated the play list . We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in. Our table wasn't quite ready so we sat at the bar for like .5 seconds, before we were escorted to our table. I don't know how else to say this, but they have a beautiful staff of people. Everyone was genuinely warm, attentive, and I loved that they seemlesly worked together. Drink: My husband had the watermelon based cocktail. I looked at it, but tequila be fighting my stomach so....but I did taste it and it was refreshingly tasty! I might ask for it next time and ask them to switch out the tequila for rum. Full disclosure--I'm a full on child when it comes to drinks. I want it like Lil' Wayne--like a lollipop. The bar staff made an off the menu drink based on my specifications. Though the drink was not exceedingly sweet, it was citrusy and refreshing--and actually more of what I was looking for without realizing it! It's not that I like super sweet drinks, but more so that I don't want the taste to be so alcohol forward. We'll upgrade me FB&BS. Teach me! Apps: ordered the salami charcuterie special, salmon mousse, and the Shisho leaves and braised chicken. All were delicious! I mean charcuterie is charcuterie. Kind of hard to mess up or elevate. But elevate they did! The soft cheese was smooth and rich and the honey mustard was robust. The salami had a surprising little kick in the finish. Definitely took it to the next level. The salmon mousse....Jesus Eugenio Cristo! Just so beautifully complex. I don't want to ruin the element of surprise, but this is masterfully composed and both accentuates each component individually and complements wholly. Different textures and tastes. Well played. Well played. Shisho or perilla, or as we call them sesame leaves have a distinct kind of licorice taste. My husband and I actually eat them often, but I remember him not liking them initially as he described it as having a perfume like taste. He loves them now though. So, we really liked this dish. It had a lot of flavors that are bold, but familiar to us. I can imagine for some that this is like a flavor punch in the mouth--being sweet, savory, and a hint of spicy. We liked it. Entree: we shared the risotto with added crab. As with their other dish, there's a lot of flavors here--umami, pickled, and rich. Overall, good, and I'd order again, but Id just like the risotto cooked about 2 minutes longer. I know there's a fine line between getting the risotto just right and mushy, so no complaint here. Dessert: I hate to say it, but in my experience, a lot of good food places are either just okay or not that great with desserts. I can't speak for all their desserts. We ordered the peach crisp. Hardly any peach flavor. And the crisp was more chewy and soft than crisp. The creme fraiche was meh for me. That seemingly ended on a down note, but it wasn't horrible, just not for me. I'd probably try the ice cream flight next time. And the rest of the experience was so good--I'm excited to go back. I'm really hoping to get the chance to try the duck gnocchi! read more

I like the concept and the ambiance. It's a intimate setting with your bar and dining seating arrangements. The drinks are very creative and so were the food menu. I believe the menu does change, but not sure how often. There is an array of wine to choose from and if you find one you like, they are available for purchase by the bottle. You can also purchase mixers to create your own cocktails at home. The service was also excellent. However, I wasn't expecting an automatic 20% gratuity to my bill. I didn't realize Tacoma started doing that. So just heads up that it's 20% gratuity automatically charged to your bill. As for the drinks, like I said very creative. I do want to say the 3 drinks I've tried all had some sort of bitter or tasted bitter. It's not bad, but I think just a tad too bitter to my liking. The food was also just okay. I got their sourdough which comes with homemade ricotta and jam. For the entrees, I ordered their Tamarind meatballs and the mushroom risotto with add on Dungeness crab. The meatballs are definitely different, not what I had expected. The risotto I think I could be cooked a bit longer for better texture and consistency. But the risotto does have good umami flavor. I would avoid paying the $8 extra to add Dungeness crab. It's wasn't worth it. It literally was 1 tiny piece of claw meat. Overall experience was positive, except for the food which wasn't really anything spectacular. read more
