Oh hi, Fidelity. Remember me? I promised lots of bad PR for your disastrous and purposeful mishandling of our 401k account. Here we go. On June 22, my better half, Zane Graham, requested a withdrawal from his 401k. He set up direct deposit, told that the funds should be deposited in 3-5 days. This is helpful, as we have recent surgical bills we need to pay. On June 29, we were told it took too long to verify his bank account (how hard can it be to make a phone call?) and that a paper check was sent instead, and to give it 10 days from the 22nd. On July 3rd, no check. We had to pay our rent, and we were short- thanks Fidelity. We called and we're told 10 BUSINESS days and to call back on Thursday- if it hadn't arrived, the rep said you could have it deposited direct. We gave it an extra day and called again Friday when it hadn't arrived. Here's where it gets interesting. The rep told us they could stop payment on the original, 2-day a replacement to arrive Tuesday, and that they could reverse the stop payment on the original if it arrived first. Original check arrived yesterday. Relieved, Zane called to reverse the stop payment. He was told they couldn't do that, and that the replacement had been sent already. Fuming, all we could do was wait to today- the replacement was sent Friday to arrive today. This morning Zane gets an email that the check has been accepted by UPS for delivery TOMORROW. Five days after promising the check was sent out. Let me break this down for you. We expected direct deposit before July 1st. Unless your technology is archaic, you can do direct deposit in minutes. It doesn't take 3 weeks for a paper to get to the other side of the country. Then several of your reps lied to us. And now our bank account is several hundred dollars in the hole, with overdraft fees from B of A piling up nearly hourly. And your reps made it our fault, somehow, and offered no solution. Requests for any kind of restitution or help have been ignored or met with lies. Our family needed this money. And Fidelity has better things to do than bother with things like integrity or honesty. If you're reading this review, withdraw every penny of your money and take it elsewhere. read more

Once again Fidelity has locked me out of my account! I have spent over 4 hours (so far) trying to get help. I have been given the wrong number 3x and been disconnected 2x. I have been on the current hold for 51 minutes and counting. Why don't they train their employees better so they can connect you with the right person the first time? Their virtual assistant is useless, their phone chat not worth the wait (over an hour). I am beyond angry! Never have they given me a reason why I was locked out. This is a employer 401k so can't change but I might drop the 401k entirely. I have better things to do than sit on hold for hours. My advice would be to STAY AWAY! read more

I believe the woman I saw was named Ashley, And yes we are name dropping this time. I walked in to this facilities because I didn't want to fax anything to them. Last time I called I needed to fax this that and the other thing only to have nothing happen. Called again only to get you only need to fax us this and you're done. So clearly, lack of training across the board, need to focus on training. Which clearly does not compute to your offices. Again, believe it was Ashley I spoke with here, and again to log in to view my 401k I need to log into Fidelity, my account is under Fidelity and has Fidelity written all over my emails. So why, when I asked to withdraw my funds did she refer my back to my old company to speak with my HR rep!? Even I knew this was wrong but getting this info from a Fidelity rep there at the office when I handed her my ID. You all should be ashamed, these are people's funds! My funds! Not yours, keeping it longer in a market base account can make your funds not only go up but also down and as a financial advisor of any sorts, you should know better. After talking with an old coworker, she advised me to go online as she did. Took me literally seconds to withdraw my funds, and a few days to receive it. You all should hire people who are well equipped to handle and deal with people coming in asking about their benefits and funds, because clearly you do not know anything about what your clients are asking you. Never ever doing business here. If a different job I get hired onto carries this company as their retirement, I will open a new one elsewhere. Not worth it, when someone says I want to withdraw my funds, you withdraw their funds! Period! read more

If my company did not force me to use this institution, I would gladly leave. I can only speak for the incompetence of the Seattle branch and their inability to make their customers do double the work when they are incapable of ensuring standard paperwork is filled out. I needed to submit paperwork to establish an EFT. For some reason that no one could articulate the online system would not accept my submission. So I had to go old school and mail in the paperwork or drop it off at their one location in Seattle. I handed my paperwork to the rep and ask him to look at all 5 pages there to ensure everything looked good. About 2 hours later I get a call saying I was missing a certified signature and they could not accept the paperwork. I decided to just mail it in this time because it was such a hassle going there. And when I read the form again it says I do not need this certified signature if delivering the forms in person. WHAT?!?! So i call and tell them that the original paperwork should be fine but they say it was stamped with a do not accept so they can not use it anyway. The compounding incompetence of this branch surprises me at every turn and I truly hope the staff that has "served" me is not allowed to handle anyone's finances because their level of intellect is more appropriate for a position at subway. read more

It's a lean economy right now and people are scared. I heard it listening to audience questions at the recent presidential debates and reading about freaked out homeowners as well as frightened retirees, who are losing the savings that were supposed to see them through old age. But I don't think it's a time to put my head in the sand to wait it out. For my generation, this is a time to learn how to prepare and what to be wary of in my future decades. And the good folks at Fidelity can give you good, free advice, no matter the size of your paycheck, on retirement and savings. They have lots of options for retirement and investing, all delivered with lengthy definitions of the jargon. They also offer seminars on these topics, in addition to dozens of online tools. And who doesn't like online tools? Fidelity makes me feel less scared by giving me knowledge. read more

Called a week ahead to make an appointment to discuss investment options. Was told on the phone I did not need to make an appointment and to come in. Went in to discuss finances and the rep I spoke with told me was going to be very busy for the rest of the day and I would need to make an appointment for at least a week out. I am out of town for the next two weeks and unable to come in. I was able to get accomplished over the phone what they could not provide for me in person Frustrated that I was proactive in calling to make an appointment, because my free time during their business hours is limited. It turns out that I'd rather get a lower interest rate on my savings than use a crappy banking site. I am yet to see an online banking/investment site that would wow me, but at least Fidelity's site is fully-functional, no-nonsense site that doesn't feel too mid-90s, unlike BofI, and where everything is laid out in a reasonably-logical way, unlike Smith-Barney. I used to get my stock awards deposited to Smith-Barney, but I changed to Fidelity because SB's website is god-awful. See my review of Bank of Internet for the other one. read more

I recently had to pay a visit to the actual Fidelity branch because I kept on getting the run-around with the phone people that can't seem to direct me to the right department. The financial adviser at the front desk was very helpful and knowledgeable about the specific subject on my retirement funds. I left with all the information I needed and felt that I should have gone to the office directly the first place instead of being transferred to 5 different departments on the phone! Definitely recommend it if you have any retirement or investment questions. read more

My husband had two retirement accounts thru UW; one was Fidelity. When he died, Fidelity took MONTHS to process the paperwork for me to access those funds. I asked, over and over, what I could do to make the process work as my health insurance was tied to accessing those funds. It took me over two months and I had no health insurance for one month because of the lackadaisical work and attitude at Fidelity. I will pull ALL the funds out of this account because of this. Eric Kinyon (branch manager) is hopeless, he wasn't willing to help, and placed me on hold (while on the phone with him) for the longest time until my deadline ran out which I couldn't do what I wanted to do; and blamed on me for not coming into the branch and wait for the completion of the process. fidelity recently started accepting hsa's, so i completed an application online to transfer my account from health savings (great company by the way). i had my hsa in wellington admiral fund shares from vanguard. i signed paperwork clearly instructing that shares be transferred in kind. i even wrote a follow-up internal email to re-state that under no circumstances were my wellington shares to be liquidated! i received assurances via internal email that was the case. guess what? no one on either side of the transaction thought to notify me that my specific written instructions would not be carried out, and i ended up with 90k cash in a money market fund earning 1.5% instead of my wellington shares that earned 17% last year!! what's worse, when my rep called, the "story" was that "these transactions are routinely carried out as cash" - something i was 'supposed to have known' somehow'. i am now attempting to reverse the transaction, and fidelity's 'executive offices' are being uncommunicative and opaque - it's been a month. to his credit, mr. pat jarret of health savings has been working very hard with vanguard to remedy the situation, but nothing from fidelity (where i have a large amount of assets, by the way). all of which are heading off to schwab in the event i am not 'made whole' by fidelity. the failure to communicate that my specific instructions would not/could not be carried out is egregious and represents a total failure of fiduciary duty on the part of fidelity. they tout 'zero fee' everything these days, but won't take a loss to restore me to my original condition!!! next step is the sec, and withdrawing everything i have in fidelity!!! read more

I recently had a meeting with Amanda Kennedy to discuss my IRA account I had previously set up with them. I used fidelity online for years and this was my first time I have needed to visit the office. called ahead to book an appointment, they set me up wit Amanda the next day. She was super helpful and friendly. I can't say enough good things about this experience. My only beef with fidelity is their inability to accept cash deposits. But that is a corporate issue not a branch decision. read more
