This review is really for Alwi Ali. I can't say enough good things about this gentleman. So, I didn't receive any kind of postcard like other reviewers did, but I actually first stumbled upon this company from 209Times' Instagram stories where they feature some local businesses. We were in need of a water softener already, so there was really no "sales pitch" I was looking to get. It really came down to deciding WHERE I was going to purchase one from. What really sold me on this company was Alwi Ali. He is very involved on his social media, and for me, it's a big plus to be able to see what I'm actually buying, how it works, what other's look like installed, his tips & tricks, his suggestions, his preferences with his own system, etc. I went ahead and reached out to him on Instagram and he came to our house and did our water test. We had been using tap water through a Brita pitcher to drink and just didn't like the taste. But what our biggest problem was is that I am severely allergic to chlorine, I have been my whole life; have never been able to swim in pools or walk into indoor pools. Before getting our system, I was actually having allergic reactions every single time I showered, ran through the sprinklers with my son, splashed the water table toy water on me, etc. It was as miserable as it sounds. And I suspected it was probably the chlorine in the water in this town, as I never had this issue when I lived in Tracy. After he did our water test, I was shocked at how much chlorine is in the water here in Stockton! WOW. No wonder. Aside from knowing we definitely wanted one, I just could not believe what a kind man Alwi was. And I know what you're thinking, he's trying to sell me something, so of course he's nice. And yeah, maybe a little, but even after purchasing this unit years ago, I still reach out to Alwi anytime I have a question. If I have any concern, he is on a mission to help me out, he has even personally stopped by when I had a question to help me himself. This is the kind of person a business dreams of having as an employee. He's a great salesman, I'm sure, but he's an even better human being. All that to say, I have not had a single allergic reaction to any of our softened water! The installer even set up an outside spigot that we could use to fill our kid's water table or little family pool with the softened water. This is not a mistake or a coincidence. Every single detail, the formatting, the language, the postage stamp, was carefully crafted to deceive people into thinking this is a government notice. It is not. Instead of pointing you to an actual USPS website or post office, they want you to call a shady private phone number (916-238-5004) to "release your parcel." There is no parcel. There is no hold. It is a lie designed to get you on the phone so they can scam you out of your money or your personal information. This is predatory, disgusting, and cowardly. They are deliberately targeting people who may not know better, including the elderly, to trick them. Impersonating a federal agency is a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. § 1341. I hope the authorities treat it as such. Do NOT call that number. Do NOT engage with these people. My complaint through the BBB: I have been attempting to contact Fidelis since February to schedule the required annual maintenance for my water softener system, which is still under warranty. Despite multiple phone calls and voicemails left over the past several months, I have not received a single return call. On one occasion, I was able to speak with a receptionist and specifically requested a callback to arrange service; however, no one ever followed up. I have made consistent, good-faith efforts to fulfill my responsibility as a customer to maintain the system within the warranty requirements. At this point, I am very concerned that the lack of response from the company could result in my warranty being jeopardized or voided through no fault of my own. Scam artists, and I fell for it, don't pay this much for a system. The system is not nearly worth $9K. I have had it for 3 months, although it does soften the water it was sold as a refiner, which it's not, it's purely a softener. The deal with soaps from Pure & Gentle is a total sham, it's a lifetime supply but only if they feel it's correct, though the team have sent me more soaps it still doesn't warrant the price tag. Even if they do offer excellent products (which I highly doubt), the misleading post card that is sent to your address advising you to call in order to retrieve a non-existent parcel is an immediate turn off for any potential customer. I moved into my new house and kept getting notices about a package that needed to be delivered. Just to find out that it's not a package. It's about someone coming out to do a water quality test. Which I was fine with. The guy that came out was really nice but it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know which he also mentioned as well, but he couldn't talk about anything more then the levels of the water because my partner was not their as well. I was also told while making this appointment that you get a gift card. Cool!! Not cool because they would have to hand deliver it and refused to do it unless both of us are home. But it's also really great; in my other hand is our purchase receipt for Fidelis. The timing and our experience couldn't have been more ideal. This was the second morning waking up in our new house. We spent a full weekend of loading/unloading and unboxing all our belongings. You can imagine the fatigue and mental haze. We also had a legit concern about missing delivered packages; a gift basket arrived at our old address 10 minutes before I locked up for the last time. Had I left sooner, someone would have taken the basket for themselves. That's why the mail notice stood out from the stack. I was so exhausted (and oddly curious, because who says "parcel" anymore?) that I called the number and spoke with someone. New local resident? Free home water test? $25 gift card? Cool. It sounded reasonable (don't mind that I completely forgot about the whole "parcel" thing). Available at 11am today? Sure, we're home. Alwi Ali arrived on time (wearing PPE). This guy is great: personal, pleasant, professional. He set up in the kitchen and let my curious kid help out (it's a simple chemistry test). It finally registered that this was a "sales presentation" by the time Alwi started showing the water results. I was horrified. My wife came into the kitchen to see what was going on. She agreed; our water quality was terrible. There was never any "sales pitch". We were never "sold" on anything. A water softener was something my wife and I had discussed long ago. Like, ".. when we buy our own home ... and we'll have a tankless water heater, and a water softener, and a .."; you get the idea. It made sense why my skin was SO DRY after the first shower in our house; the water was as chlorinated as a public pool (gross). We turned the conversation towards questions of "what is the process?" and "what else do we need to know?" Alwi answered everything. We soon found out that he and my wife know many of the same people in professional circles. That's the point where any sales-y pretense would typically be dropped for the social gossip and story sharing. But Alwi never had any sales-y demeanor to begin with. (My wife and I have considerable experience dealing with sales people, so trust that we pay close attention). We set the installation for the same week. The contractors that came out to do the work were also very professional. (We've added them to our list of local contractors for our future home repairs/projects). If there was any mess, I couldn't tell. The contractors had moved everything back where it belonged and cleaned everything up. Alwi returned the following week to go over all the extras (free soap/cleaner concentrates, cooking pans, etc.) and to check the installation. From start to finish, working with Fidelis has been a great experience. And this is 100% thanks to Alwi and the contractors, as they were the ones to represent the company. Sure, it was a lot of money for us to commit at once. But, the total we paid was appropriate and in line with what we expected. We wouldn't have followed through if we felt it overpriced. We had (still have) a lot of projects we want to do to our home. We would never have thought to address the water quality at that time if it weren't for Fidelis' lucky parcel notice. Sure, we would have liked to have spent initial project money on upgrading kitchen counters and/or the floors, etc. But, those things are perfectly functional. But to go months on end with dry skin from showers, laundry wearing out faster due to chlorine, and not-so-safe water from the tap? No way. That's not how we prioritize. Looking only at Fidelis' overall Yelp rating, it's easy to understand how one might feel uncertain; people prefer 4 stars and up, right? But when you remove the ten or twelve 1-star reviews that are pretty much based on the "sales tactic" of the mail notices and little else, you can see a truer rating (practically 5 stars). Plus, Fidelis actually takes the time to address feedback (they've also updated the mailer/notice in our area); too many companies don't care enough to do even that. It's one thing to rate low due to rude, unprofessional, harassing, pushy, time-wasting, or outright shady sales people. But don't go trash a business that successfully got your attention where others have failed. Think about all the junk mail we mindlessly toss out. Spam we delete. TV/radio commercials we ignore. YouTube ads we skip. Doors we shut on solicitors. Many represent quality products/services (ok maybe not spam) from people trying to earn legit business. Do these deserve unfair 1-star ratings too? This company may be legit when it comes to testing your water, but their business ethic is shameful. I received this post card (pictured below) stating that I had a parcel waiting for me and that this was the final notice. They use this tactic to have you call them so that they can set up a sales call. But even over the phone, they don't tell you who they are or why they sent the postcard because there isn't a parcel waiting for you. They offered me a Amazon gift card (which I did not receive) and they have the audacity to demand in their policy that my wife be there with me for the presentation. I told them that my wife was upstairs with our 3 children who are 3, 2, and 10 months old. They still required that she be present for their sales pitch. These people have a sketchy way of getting customers + they're on here replying to every single complaint about their sketchy practices and defending the sketchiness. (And saying we hope you can look past it and try us anyway.) Ridiculous! As others have said, they mail you a thing pretending to be the "Final Notice" from a parcel tracking service. I told the guy on the phone "actually, this is the *first* notice" and called him out on the sketchy tactics, and he insisted that no, it was the third notice because they had attempted to hand-deliver the parcel twice by walking to my house with it (rather than using the mail?...) and ringing my doorbell. Which is silly and not even true. I work from home due to Covid, and someone has been at home at all times since we recently moved here. There were no failed attempts to deliver a package. When you call the number, they say "Parcel Service" (a nameless parcel service, I guess? LOL). It's the number for Fidelis Elite, so why are they pretending to be a parcel service? Especially if they're also saying that they don't use a parcel service and instead walk to our houses themselves to hand-deliver the parcels! (Of course they *don't* actually do that, but let's pretend for a second that he wasn't a liar.) I actually did want to check my water. I'd heard that some parts of Turlock had had water issues a few years ago. I was even considering installing a filtration system, if necessary. Well, now I know which company *not* to use :) The sad/funny thing is that even the customers here giving GOOD reviews all mention the dishonest parcel thing. Does the company enjoy being (in)famous for this? Then when it came time to change the filter they wanted to charge me for the cost of the filter and then another $175 to put it in- this was NOT told to me in the beginning. So we buy the filter and install it but it doesn't work. So we don't use the system for a few months and then decide to give in and pay the service fee. As we moved into our new home. We received a parcel notice, said to call. We called the number and spoke with someone. New local resident? Free home water test? $25 gift card? We realized it was selling water filtration refinement system. The customer service wanted to book a time to have sale specialist to come to our new home on that weekend. Okay, we are home, but we are skeptical what it would turn out.. Pete Cervantes came and arrived on time. Then he saw us moving furniture and stuff into the house. He was great: personal, pleasant, professional and empathy and understood that that was not a right time to talk about the system. We re-scheduled a time month after, thus we can settle in our new house and sit down and talked about the system. He came again on time as we scheduled, he explained in details about the system, test the water and showed us the result, we was so surprise how dirty of our city's water is, we was horrified, and shocked how much water that we and our pets already drank. Pete was never any "sales pitch". We were never "sold" on anything. A clear water was something my family had discussed long ago. Like, ".. when we buy our new home ... and we would like to have a tankless water heater, and a water softener, and a .."; you get the idea. It made sense why our skin was SO DRY after the first shower in our house. Pete and us turned the conversation towards questions of "what is the process?" and "what else do we need to know?" Pete answered everything. And Pete wanted to know our need and he was a good listener, and wanted to build a rapport with us, not just sell the system. As well Pete let us felt he care about our quality of life, including financial options. Pete set up a time for installation. And David (technician) was also very professional and careful installed the equipment and explain to us what we need to know. No mess, and he had moved everything back where it belonged and cleaned everything up. Pete returned as per our requested in the following week to go over financial paper and retest the water and showed us the different the system change the quality of water and check the installation. From start to finish, working with Fidelis has been a great experience. We would like to give a big shut out to Pete and David, especially, 110% thanks to both, as they were the ones to represent the company. Sure, it was a lot of money for us to commit at once. But, it is worthy to do so. We had (still have) a lot of projects we want to do to our new home. We would never have thought to address the water quality at that time if it weren't for Fidelis' lucky parcel notice and Pete knowledge on the system.. we are so glad to meet Pete and David for their wonderful work especially to Pete for him to willing to go extra miles to make sure we understand how to use the system and care our living.
